How to hack a fierce boss bun.

The Coil Topknot Will Give You Work-Ready Hair in 30-Seconds Flat

The Coil Topknot Will Give You Work-Ready Hair in 30-Seconds Flat

The topknot is one of those unicorn hairstyles that can be constantly reimagined — we’ve come a long way from the universally-loved messy high bun and its more poised sister, the ballerina bun, with styles like the wrapped topknot and its cousin, the ponybun. Now, we’re welcoming another ‘do into the topknot #squad: the coil topknot, a hairstyle that looks WAY fancier than it is to do. All you need is an elastic and a few bobby pins. With a simple, tight twist and a wrap around the base, the coil bun creates a sleek, seamless look that can instantly upgrade second-grade hair to strands that are work-ready in just 30 seconds. Scroll through to see how this easy coiling technique can make you look bomb from every angle.

STEP 1: CREATE A HIGH PONY + TWIST, TWIST, TWIST

First, create a high ponytail, focusing on getting that bad boy as high up on your head as you can! Brush out any bumps with a rattail comb. Sleekness is key for this look, so spend your time ensuring your hair is totally smooth at this point. Now, twist your pony tightly with your hand on the ends of your hair, holding tension in the twist.

STEP 2: DIP IT LOW

Bring your twisted ponytail forward (toward your face) and then down.

STEP 3: SET YOUR COILED BUN

Pin it in place at your crown and then coil the rest of your hair around itself to create a high-rising topknot.

STEP 4: SET + SPRAY  IN PLACE

Slightly tug at your topknot for fullness and to further round out its shape.

The final look is polished, pretty and perfect for any time of year!
