You know we love us a good DIY beauty trend. We tried our hand at the hair chalk craze, ombr-ified our nails, and recently turned our old bootcut jeans into skinnies. But there are also quite a few fads that push the “is this cool or is it crazy?” envelope. From burger-inspired eyeshadow to temporary lip tattoos, here are 30 such products and trends. Enjoy.
Temporary Lip Tattoos
Is the latest shade of red just not enough for you? Try these temporary lip tattoos by Violent Lips, available in prints, patterns, textures, and more. (Violent Lips)DIY Dry Shampoo
This tutorial shows you how to use corn starch, baking soda, cocoa powder and more to create your own dry shampoo. (via Free People)Caviar Nails
Beads + nail polish? This trend definitely pulls at our DIY heartstrings. While we like the sprinkled look, we wonder if it would be be annoying getting caught on loose threads and things all the time. If you’re not up for the DIY, check out Ciaté’s caviar manicure kit. (via Madame Noire)Hair Rings
Apparently these are a new trend. Why limit rings to your fingers? (Regal Rose)DIY Hair Chain
We like the look of this sort of reverse headband in theory. In reality, it seems like it would get tangled in most types of hair. (via I Spy DIY)Hair Cuff
Could this be the new scrunchy? (Modekungen)Wildflower Fauxhawk
You know we love us a good fauxhawk (see our French Braid Fauxhawk tutorial). (via Hair Romance)Wrangler Anti-Cellulite Jeans
Wait, what? Oh, and they also have jeans that moisturize your legs. So there’s that. (via Style Sight)Beard Oil
Keep that beard moisturized and lightly fragrant with Dude No. 1 beard oil. (MCMC Fragrances)Kool-Aid Lip Stain
This is an oldie but a goodie, and a great way to get yummy summery lips all year long. (via The Beauty Department):Hair Chalk
Grab some colored chalk, a spray bottle of water, your curling iron or straightener, and get to work! (via Brit + Co.)Homemade Lip Balm
This one takes the whole Vaseline + eyeshadow thing to whole other level. Would love to try this with a little bit of sparkle too! (via Whole Living)Two-Toned Lips
The problem with this is that it’s almost too subtle to look like it’s on purpose, but could be cool with more dramatic hues for a costume. (via Fashion Cherry)Preparation H for Puffy Eyes
We wrote about this one for our DIY New Year’s Eve Recovery Kit and stand solidly by it. It works. Seriously. (via Pharmacy Mix)Beer Shampoo Bar
Beers happen to double as a clarifying agent for hair. How crazy is that? (Dogfish)Chamomile Tea Highlights
Looking for a natural hair lightener and short on sun? You can use chamomile tea (with chamomile extract and yogurt) to create your own lightener. Very interesting, and possibly delicious? (via show)Braids, Braids, and more Braids!
Last year was definitely the year of the braid, and we were all about it. (via Brit + Co.)Colored Eyebrows
This seems like an only-runway look but the folks at Beautylish beg to differ. What do you think? (via Beautylish)Alpha Nail
Nail polish for men. Described as… war paint. Available as a starter kit with two “clean slate” wipes. Discuss. (Alpha Nail)DIY Hair Bow
Love this whimsical take on a knot! (via Emmaline Bride)Homemade Toothpaste
Ok, so we’re all for being green and knowing what goes into the products you use but… we draw the line at toothpaste. Of course, we’re happy to be proven wrong if you’ve got a great recipe. (via Wellness Mama)Growing Thicker Eyebrows
Thicker eyebrows are definitely in and, if you ask us, young ingenues like Camilla Belle are taking their cue from the original browed beauty, Brooke Shields. In any case, there are a few ways you can fake thick brows or even try to grow them in using lash-growing serums or even Rogaine. Yep. You knew Rogaine would make this list in one form or another. (via Huffington Post)Ombre Lips
We love ombre but we think there’s a line… or a gradient? As our resident stylist Misty put it best, ombre lips are only good if you’re taking a photo of just your lips. (via xSparkage)Eye Rock Sticker Eyeliner
We love this product! It makes putting on eyeliner so much easier, especially when looking for dramatic results. Thank you Birchbox for including this in one of last year’s boxes! (Birchbox)Cosmetic Abs in a Box
Can’t get to the gym? Use your makeup bag instead! Wait, really? (via Gearfuse)Light Up Lip Gloss
For late nights out on the town, gotta have the light up lip gloss! (via Brit + Co.)Gray Hair… for Young People
Definitely on the weird side but somehow looks pretty good on these two gals. (via US Magazine)Hamburger Eyeshadow
We’re calling it. This one is CRAZY. (via Buzzfeed)Anjelika Temple
