How to DIY Blake Lively’s Top from Her Gucci Campaign
Alright, Blake Lively. How do you do it? From running a lifestyle website to rocking the red carpet, you’re a lady after our own hearts. Back in late 2014, Blake donned a sparkling top and sultry waves in her Gucci Première Eau de Toilette campaign. Months later, and we still can’t get that shirt off our minds. Being as DIY-obsessed as we are, we just had to recreate it.
Once you finish this blinged-out number, don’t forget to make her $500 cherry blossom boyfriend jeans next. Two pieces in and you’ll be that much closer to recreating the starlet’s amazing wardrobe.
Materials:
— t-shirt
— fabric glue
— scrap cardboard
— triangle gems
— squeezable fabric paint
Instructions:
1. Create a row of gems around the collar by interlocking triangles, gluing them down as you go.
2. Continue until the top of half of the shirt is covered.
3. Add rows of gems to each sleeve, the same way you did around the collar.
4. If you’d like, add dots of fabric paint for more depth and dimension between the triangles. Let dry before wearing.
For this project, we used a total of 250 16mm triangle gems: 150 clear gems on the chest and 100 two-tone clear gems on the sleeves (50 each). The total number of gems will depend on the size and style of your shirt, the size of your triangle gems and how much of the top you want to bedazzle. We recommend purchasing more gems than you think you need, just to be safe!
As with any project involving glue, it’s a good idea to figure out the placement of each gem before applying it. This will help you figure out spacing and positioning from the very beginning.
Once you’re finished with this easy DIY, we hope you’re heading out for the night. Because there’s no way this shirt can be kept indoors and at home.
