How to Make Hipster Holiday Stockings
While we love us a classy Christmas, it’s no secret that we’re gaga over color, color, and more color. And it turns out, we’re not alone. Read on as Brit + Co. contributor (and amazing event planner!) Jesi Haack shows us a super easy to create your own Hipster Holiday Stockings.
So. I know most people love keeping their Christmas decorations very classy and beautiful. Hmmm, me? I like to make my house look like Christmas ate too much candy and barfed all over. I came up with a super fun and easy way to customize stockings that can be modified to accommodate anyone’s tastes. Check it out!!
Materials:
– felt
– colored thread
– sharp scissors
– colored pleather
– sewing machine
First, download a stocking template. (I used this one and blew it up on my computer so the top measured 8 inches across.) Cut out your template.
Fold your piece of felt in half and pin your printed template to the felt. Cut out so that you have two sides for your stocking.
Next, cut the pleather shapes you want and sew them onto the front side of your stocking (or both sides if you’re feeling frisky).
Now, place both pieces of stocking felt back together and sew! Sew around the edges of the stocking until the entire thing is sewn together, except the top of course.
Trim off excess felt around the stitching.
Cut out a strip of felt about 4 inches long, fold it in half and sew onto the back right corner of the stocking to make a loop. For most of this sewing, you could also sew by hand but it will take quite a bit more time.
And there you have it! Easy peasy hipster holiday stockings!
Now hang those puppies on your mantel and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah! (Photos by Mr. Haack Photography)
