What’s the Best Way to Drink Wine in the Summer? Tipsy Wine Slushies!
Just because we’re all grown up here doesn’t mean we shouldn’t dive head first into a slushie this summer. In fact, because we’re all grown up, we should dive into a cool batch of Tipsy Wine Slushies – made with your favorite fruit and sweet summer wine.
Ingredients (makes 4 glasses of wine slushies)
– 1 cup strawberries (or other fruit)
– 2 cup sweet wine (White Zinfandel, Reisling, or Rose, or Vino Verdo)
– 1/4 cup sugar
– dash of citrus
Select your wine. We consulted good ole Trader Joe and finally settled on his White Zinfandel with strawberries to make our Strawberry Zinfandel Slushies. Other great options include Vino Verde, Riesling, Rose, or even a Shiraz.
Cut the tops of your strawberries.
Cook husked strawberries, sugar, and citrus over medium heat until syrup has formed and strawberries are soft. Remove from heat and let cool.
Once cool, puree in a blender, food processor or Magic Bullet. Add puree to 2 cups of wine, mixing well.
Remember those sweet ice cube molds from our Tropical Sorbet Bites? Bust those out again, and pour your wine slushie mix into the molds. Freeze for at least 4 hours.
When they’re frozen, pop them out.
Put a few cubes in a Magic Bullet or blender.
Add a splash of wine and puree. Serve in a wine glass, and add another cube for good measure if you’re feeling saucy.
