The budget airline already offers transatlantic passengers the option to make a stopover in Iceland for up to seven days at no additional charge, but to sweeten the deal they’re also now introducing a service that will hook you up with a “stopover buddy.” Stopover buddies are Icelandair employees who will accompany you on some sort of Icelandic excursion. The best part? It’s totally free.
If you’re not really up for a day of backcountry skiing that’s totally fine. You can customize your friend date to suit your interest. If you’re looking to spend the day hiking on a glacier request an adventure buddy. If you’re looking for someone to show you the coolest museums and in Reykjavik request a culture buddy. To explore the local cuisine find a food buddy. Nature, lifestyle and health buddies are also available.
