Make This Pimm’s Cup Recipe for Your Next Picnic
Many picnic foods get better with age, meaning they actually taste better after sitting in a cooler for a few hours. Foods like cold pasta, chicken, and broccoli salads are all great examples. But the same is not always true for many cocktails. Fizzy drinks go flat and any ice added prematurely will surely melt. Luckily, we’ve come up with the perfect solution to your picnic problem – Pimm’s Cups!
Never had a Pimm’s Cup? Well let’s just say that after your first one, your summertime drink routine will never be the same. Light, refreshing, and fruity, there’s nothing we enjoy more on a hot summer day.
So why is a Pimm’s Cup the perfect picnic cocktail? We’re glad you asked. A Pimm’s traditionally includes slices of citrus fruits, cucumbers, and mint. The longer the fruit sits in the cocktail the better. With that in mind, we place our fruit and Pimm’s in a mason jar before traveling, then top with ice and Limonata or ginger beer once we hit the picnic!
Pimm’s for a Picnic
Makes 6 drinks
Ingredients:
– 1 1/2 cups Pimm’s No. 1
– 1-2 lemons
– 1-2 oranges
– 1 cucumber
– 1 bunch of mint
– 4 Pellegrino Limonatas or bottles of ginger beer
– Garnish: fresh cherries
Instructions:
1. Thinly slice lemons, oranges, and cucumber. Place a couple slices of each in every mason jar.
2. Top with a few mint leaves and cherries. Then pour in the Pimm’s. Screw on mason jar lids for easy transport.
3. Once you’ve reached your destination, fill each glass with ice and top with Limonata or ginger beer.
Start by gathering your ingredients.
Thinly slice the oranges and lemons…
Followed by the cucumbers. We used English cucumbers which are wrapped in plastic to protect the skin.
Once everything is prepped, it’s time to start assembling your cups.
Drop in a few slices of oranges, lemons, and cucumbers. Top off with some cherries and mint. Then pour in 1/4 cup (2 ounces) of Pimm’s.
Assemble all six mason jars and then screw the lids on tightly. Pack in your cooler with your Limonata or ginger beer and you’re ready to go.
Once you reach the picnic, fill each mason jar with ice.
Top with Limonata or ginger beer.
And you’re ready to serve! Repeat with the remaining mason jars and get ready for a good time!
