We are LOVING all of the diversity momentum happening in the fashion industry so far this year. From plus-size model Tess Holliday to trans models Andreja Pejic + Hari Nef to ModCloth’s bathing suit campaign that stars completely unretouched employees, the modeling world is finally starting to look like the real world. The latest moment to capture our attention comes from Teen Vogue, which just debuted a pretty groundbreaking August cover, which hits stands July 14.
Dubbed on the cover as “fashion’s new faces” are models Aya Jones, Lineisy Montero and Imaan Hammam. The photo marks a major moment for the modeling world that typically features white women on glossy covers. We applaud the publication for recognizing that beauty goes beyond the long-held standard and hope other media companies and fashion houses follow suit by also heading down the all-inclusive avenue. In the meantime, let’s meet these three super cool cover girls.
Aya Jones (@iamayajones): The French-Ivorian beauty was discovered on the streets of her hometown in Paris (there’s hope for all of us!). Now, at the age of 20, she has already walked on 47 runways since her debut at Prada’s Spring 2015 show. Yeah, this lady is very busy. (Photo via Jacqueline Harriet)
Lineisy Montero (@lineisymontero): Discovered at an amusement park in Santo Domingo, the 19-year-old Dominican also made her debut walking for Prada — and hasn’t stopped mugging for the camera and working the runway ever since. (Photo via Jacqueline Harriet)
Imaan Hammam (@hammamimaan): You may recognize this Egyptian-Moroccan gal already — this 18-year-old was on the September “Instagirls” Vogue cover next to Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevingne + Joan Smalls (#squadgoals). She’s also walked for Victoria’s Secret and appeared in a Givenchy campaign. We can’t help but wonder what’s next for the budding It girl. (Photo via Jacqueline Harriet)
World domination seems imminent for these three hustlers, so check out the full cover story on fashion’s new faces over at Teen Vogue.
