This App Will Help You Figure Out Where to Live
One of the beautiful things about being a freelancer is that you can work from anywhere. Your office could be inside a bustling coffee shop, a quiet corner in a public library or poolside at a Palm Springs Airbnb. If you’re daydreaming about ditching your office cube for a full-time freelance career in another city (or even your own), a new app called Teleport will help you make the decision.
The app asks you for a few personal details like your current city, what you pay in rent, your current monthly income and your current job. From there, select your ideal options for your new environment. Perhaps you’d love to trade out your current concrete city for a town nestled in the woods with plenty of walkable space and low rent. Once you plug in your preferences, the app populates a list of potential new cities that you might like. You’ll discover places that you might not have even thought about before.
In addition to the city, you’ll get much-needed info about the area’s average rent, job opportunities and cost of living. The app will even calculate if the move will save you money each month (compared to your current rent) or let you know that it’s way pricier than your present day digs. If you decide to make the move, you can contact a Teleport Scout who will assist you with the move.
The app is geared toward startup employees — for now — but the practical information is also handy for full-time freelancers who can pick up and go, or anyone contemplating a major relocation. Download it for free on iOS or Android.
