These Are the Top 10 Airports for Finding Love
Killing time at the airport can be a major bummer, especially if you’re stuck in a terminal without unlimited free WiFi, duty-free shopping or the eateries that stock your fave foods. Though hanging out in massive security lines or at your gate can be a real bore, a recent finding shows that there’s something fun (and pretty unexpected) that you can do during the downtime on your next flight to Europe: Find a date.
Happn, an app that uses GPS to show you every user you’ve physically crossed paths with throughout the day (and the amount of time you’ve been around them), used its data to show that there are very specific European airports where your chances of meeting someone crush-worthy is scientifically higher. Whoa! Don’t believe us? Here are the top 10 European airports where Happn recorded the most crushes, which means both users “liked” each other on the app.
1. Amsterdam Schipol: 9,185 crushes
2. Istanbul Ataturk: 7,483 crushes
3. London Heathrow: 6,053 crushes
4. Copenhagen: 5,718 crushes
5. Gardermoen (Oslo): 5,293 crushes
6. Charles de Gaulle (Paris): 4,715 crushes
7. Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas: 4,593 crushes
8. Lisbon Portela: 4,228 crushes
9. Stockholm-Arlanda: 1,886 crushes
10. Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino (Rome): 1,795 crushes
Still not convinced? Travel and Leisure recently shared a study by Sperling’s Best Places (on behalf of men’s grooming company Axe) that examined 35 airports *worldwide* to figure out which ones present travelers with the best chance of finding someone special. The findings are great news for jet-setters who are looking for love and rarely leave the US: Six of the most date-friendly airports are right here in the states.
Their happening bars, restaurants and venues (like those you’ll find at SFO in San Francisco, the airport terminal deemed “the flirtiest”), plus regular flight interruptions seem to be a magical mix when it comes to creating a movie-scene-worthy opp for people to meet. Newark, JFK, Philly, Dallas/Fort Worth and Minneapolis/St. Paul round out the list of the top US love hubs.
Basically, we take all of this to mean that a gal should NEVER diminish the possibility of connecting with the cutie from the airport bar or ticket counter after you’ve gone on your merry way — and as a reminder to remain cheerful amid delays or interruptions. You may just meet someone special!
