3 CMA Clues That Taylor Swift Is Returning to Her Country Roots
Let’s not beat around the bush here: Taylor Swift has definitely pushed some of her fans’ buttons this year. That whole Hiddleswift saga made us ALL raise an eyebrow (admit it!), and then the whole Kim and Kanye #receiptsgate situation… let’s just say, 2016 has not been our girl’s finest hour. But there’s one community that has never abandoned the star that it created, and that’s the country music world. And Taylor never really left it, either.

In fact, Taylor wrote “Better Man,” the song that band Little Big Town performed at tonight’s Country Music Awards (and which might be a Calvin Harris breakup song). The band went on to win the award for Vocal Group of the Year… with definite thanks to Tay.

But that’s not all: Taylor also virtually congratulated Kenny Chesney on his Pinnacle Award win — an award previously won by only herself and Garth Brooks. AND she’s presenting the Entertainer of the Year award, to boot.
Taylor Swift has definitely gotten heat in the past for leaving country behind, even by the very crowd that is welcoming her back tonight. At the 2014 CMAs, hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood — who are also hosting the 2016 event – poked fun at Taylor’s pop crossover, dubbing the “epidemic” of country artists bouncing to the pop world as “Postpartum Taylor Swift Disorder.” But it’s clear that Taylor hasn’t completely left her roots behind… and maybe, just maybe, we’ll be seeing a return to that country sound in her next album.
