OMG: These ’90s Hair Trends Are Making a Major Resurgence at NYFW
Dust off those middle school hair pieces, ladies! After seeing chokers, silver eyeshadow, and brown lipstick making a major comeback in recent years, it was only a matter of time before ’90s hair trends began taking over once more. If New York Fashion Week is any indicator, that time has come, as they’re about to be back in a BIG way.
Models at the Alexander Wang show took us straight back to our childhood, with models rocking the same oversized claw clips we broke time and time again while crafting our throwback ‘coifs. The label traded the traditional tortoiseshell shade for a shiny silver chrome finish, however, with the designer’s name emblazoned on the handle to hold up the sleek updos stylists finished off with Redken’s Forceful 23 Hairspray ($19).
“I love the way that something is reintroduced into fashion and we look at it again in a different way,” lead hair guru for the show, Guido Palau, toldCosmopolitan.
And that wasn’t all. Yet *another* flashback hair accessory made its way down the runway as models at the Prabal Gurung show donned stretchy hair comb headbands ($3)!
Lead stylist Anthony Turner wanted to create a look that was “chic yet youthful,” deciding on a slicked-back “yoga bun” paired with the playful headpiece of decades past.
Stylists used the headbands — plus a TON of Wella Professionals EIMI Stay Firm Spray ($18) — to keep the look in place.
We don’t know about you, but we are HERE for these casual cool looks. Long live the ’90s!
