A ‘Hocus Pocus’ 25th Anniversary TV Special Will Star Sarah Jessica Parker and More
Add another Halloween TV special to your schedule! Freeform has announced it will air a TV special for the 25th anniversary of the beloved witchy movie Hocus Pocus as part of the network’s expanded 31 Nights of Halloween programming schedule.
Airing on Saturday, October 20 at 8:15pm ET/PT on Freeform, the Hocus Pocus 25th Anniversary Halloween Bash will feature interviews with the 1993 movie’s stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, Omri Katz, Thora Birch, and more.
Drag queen Lady Bunny will be on hand as the in-house DJ, and the celebratory special will also feature performances from Dove Cameron, PrettyMuch, and Junior New System. If that weren’t enough, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne will also judge a Hocus Pocus costume contest.
For fans of the film who are wondering where original star Bette Midler’s name is, Freeform has said that more guests are yet to be announced, but given the icon’s previously voiced disdain for the potential upcoming remake, we can’t help but wonder where she stands on an anniversary special.
“I’m not sure what they’re going to do with my character,” Midler said last Halloween of the Disney Channel’s preliminary plans to reboot the movie as a TV show. “My character is very, very broad and I don’t know who they’re going to find to play that.” She also said the remake was “going to be cheap.”
All three of the main cast members, however, have expressed interest in a proper sequel. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for an appearance in the special!
