Alicia Keys Is Returning to “The Voice” for Season 14
As we prepare for American Idol to make a comeback next March (now that they’ve finally secured their three judges), things are starting to sizzle over on the set of The Voice too. The NBC show just announced that Alicia Keys will make a grand return for the reality competition show’s dynamic 14th season.
This will be the “Fallin'” singer’s third season in one of the big red chairs. This time around, the season 12 winning coach will be seated alongside Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Kelly Clarkson. That’s quite the lineup of stellar musical talent!
The “Since U Been Gone” performer, who is new to the show, made the announcement about Keys in a new video, saying, “I’m so excited because I get to announce who the final, fourth coach is on season 14. I’m the new one, but this is the fourth one that we haven’t mentioned yet.” She then opened a door to reveal… Blake Shelton. Hmm. Maybe second time’s the charm? Let’s try this again: She then opened a door to reveal… Adam Levine? Man, these guys really like their pranks.
Her third attempt finally revealed the 15-time Grammy winner, who said that her reason for returning to The Voice can be boiled down to one simple goal: “Defending my crown.” (Keys’ contestant Chris Blue won last season.)
Despite the fact that Keys is Clarkson’s direct competition, the former American Idol winner already feels a camaraderie with Keys. “Let’s get rid of the toddlers and it’s going to just be me and Alicia this season,” the “Piece by Piece” performer joked.
Paul Telegdy, president of NBC Entertainment’s Alternative and Reality Group, also commented on Keys’ return in a statement to E! News. “We are thrilled to welcome back Alicia’s positive energy, competitive spirit and sheer talent,” Telegdy said. “She brings unparalleled expertise and has proven she knows how to help artists win. The chemistry between Alicia, Kelly, Adam, and Blake will make for a wildly unpredictable and compelling season 14!”
Season 13 of The Voice is currently airing on NBC. Season 14 is set to premiere in February.
