Amal Clooney’s High-Fashion Maternity Style *Almost* Outshines Powerful UN Speech
Amal Clooney is the ultimate #girlboss. Not only is the British-Lebanese barrister kicking ass as a human rights lawyer and pregnant with twins, but she uses the spotlight that she and husband George Clooney draw to call attention to their causes. Oh, and did we mention the mom-to-be is impossibly stylish as well?
All eyes were certainly on Clooney this Wednesday as she spoke in front of the United Nations. Her ensemble at the event could have come straight out of a high-fashion lookbook. She wore a Bottega Veneta citrus yellow dress and coordinating coat, each with black leather piping (woven in the brand’s signature style). She finished her look with a pair of black pointed-toe pumps and a structured tote to further play up the ’60s-inspired silhouettes.
While her stylish maternity look made headlines, her speech on behalf of ISIS sex-trafficking survivor and Nobel Peace Price Nominee Nadia Murad was even more striking. “I am speaking to you, the Iraqi government, and to you, UN member states, when I ask: Why? Why has nothing been done?” she implored in her remarks. “If we do not change course, history will judge us. And there will be no excuse for our failure to act.”
And she finished her address with a galvanizing message. “Don’t let this be another Rwanda, where you regret doing too little, too late,” she said. “Don’t let ISIS get away with genocide.”
Preach, Amal. Preach.
