The 31 Most-Anticipated 2024 Movies

2024 movies

This year's best new TV shows are shaping up to be dramatic, thrilling, and nearly cinematic. And after a year in Barbieland with Margot Robbie, we're trading hot pink passion for more toned-down shades of drama, sci-fi epics, and romantic movies that will make you swoon! Whether you prefer to see stars like Zendaya and Emma Stone on the big screen or you pick curling up on the couch with a snack every single time, these 2024 movies are the way to go. Some of them are original scripts and some are based on books, but one thing unites them all: you'll be on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Fall 2024 Movies

Image via Universal Pictures

When we're craving spring, it's hard to imagine wanting to re-enter hibernation season, but the time will come! This year's fall movies are all about maximalism in every sense: the costumes, the plotlines, and even the cast lists. Whether you prefer your films cozy or spooky, there's something for you this year!

September Movies

Beetlejuice 2 — In Theaters September 6, 2024

Image via Warner Bros.

Jenna Ortega stars as Astrid, the daughter of Winona Ryder's Lydia. "She’s weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume," Jenna tellsVanity Fair. "The relationship between Lydia and Astrid, [is] really strange because it’s a lot of catching up and putting the pieces together of what’s gone on in Lydia’s life since [the first movie]."

Beetlejuice 2 hits theaters September 6, 2024 and stars Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux.

My Old Ass — In Theaters September 13, 2024

Marni Grossman/Amazon MGM Studios

October Movies

Joker: Folie a Deux — In Theaters October 4, 2024

Image via Warner Bros.

Lady Gaga basically broke the internet when we learned she was joining the sequel to Joker. She'll play Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix's titular character, and I cannot wait to see the electricity between these two — even if it's kind of scary at the same time.

Joker 2 hits theaters October 4 and stars Lady Gaga, Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey.

November Movies

Gladiator 2 — In Theaters November 22, 2024

Paramount Pictures

We've seen Paul Mescal everywhere recently (and hopefully we'll see him again soon in Beach Read? 👀), and later this year, we'll see him headline this 2024 movie. He stars as Lucius, the son of the Russell Crowe's Maximus from the first movie, alongside Denzel Washington and Fantastic Four's Joseph Quinn & Pedro Pascal.

Gladiator 2 hits theaters November 22 and stars Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, and Derek Jacobi.

Wicked: Part I — In Theaters November 27, 2024

Universal Pictures

This 2024 movie is going to be absolutely incredible. It's confirmed this will serve as the first half of the full story (à la Dune 2), but it's unclear whether the movie will end right after Elphaba's "Defying Gravity" the way the first act of the musical does. Either way, I'm fully prepared to cry.

You can watch Wicked in theaters November 27, 2024. The movie stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, and Keala Settle.

Winter Movies We Got In 2024

Image via Universal Pictures

As far as I'm concerned, winter movies are all about the magic and comfort that we lean into during colder months (both within the holiday season and following it). These 2024 movies were all about brightening up dreary winter days, and all featured seriously bold aesthetics. And thank goodness!

January Movies

Mean Girls — On Paramount+ Now

Image via Paramount Pictures

The original Mean Girls is somehow 20 years old, and this new iteration (based on the Broadway musical) brings plenty of current events, slang, and TikTok trends to the forefront. The whole cast knocks it out of the park and I've had "Not My Fault" stuck in my head since January.

Mean Girls is available on Paramount+ now and stars Angourie Rice, Auli’i Cravalho, Jenna Fischer, Chris Briney, Reneé Rapp, Ashley Park.

February Movies

Suncoast — On Hulu

Image via Eric Zachanowich/Searchlight Pictures

If you love coming-of-age movies, I recommend Suncoast wholeheartedly. (TBH, I recommend it wholeheartedly no matter what). The semi-autobiographical movie follows Doris, who's just trying to make it through high school the same year her dying brother gets checked into an end-of-life facility. This movie is comforting and is an incredibly comforting, complex look at grief, and I loved it from start to finish.

Suncoast is available to stream on Hulu and stars Nico Parker, Laura Linney, and Woody Harrelson.

Argylle — Rent On Amazon Prime Now

Image via Universal Pictures

For anyone who misses their early 2000s spy era, this winter movie will let you satisfy your desire for adventure without ever having to leave the house. Elly Conway's journey from reclusive author to woman-on-the-run is funny, heartwarming, and just sarcastic enough that it's self-aware.

Argylle is available to rent on Amazon Prime now and stars Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockell, Samuel L. Jackson, Henry Cavill, and John Cena.

Meet Me In Rome — On Roku Now

Image via Roku

After Love in Fairhope, Reese Witherspoon brought us the uber romantic Meet Me In Rome series, which stars 13 Going on 30 actress Christa Belle Allen traipsing around Rome, Italy. Villas, gelato, and pizza — what could be better than that?

Meet Me In Rome is on Roku now and stars Lauren Simmons, Dhruva Patel, and Christa Belle Allen.

Lisa Frankenstein — Rent On Amazon Now

Image via Focus Features

Imagine if John Hughes had done an 80s version of Frankenstein — that's exactly what Lisa Frankenstein feels like. That's exactly what the campy, colorful, and fun Diablo Cody movie feels like and it is a hilarious (if violent) look at teenage angst.

Lisa Frankenstein is available on Amazon now. The 2024 movie stars Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Carla Gugino, and Jenna Davis.

Spring 2024 Movies

Image via Prime Video

Spring movies are just one thing that makes me feel refreshed and ready to shed my layers (both in terms of my spring outfits AND spring cleaning). The common theme throughout all of these 2024 movies is relationships, humanity, and sticking with the people you love. Sounds good to me.

March Movies

Dune 2 — On Max

Image via Niko Tavernise/Warner Bros. Pictures

Dune 2 tackles the second half of Frank Herbert's iconic novel, and brings Florence Pugh's Princess Irulan and Austin Butler's Feyd Rautha into the fold. This 2024 movie has romance, it has tension, and, unfortunately, it also has jumpscare-worthy sand worm popcorn buckets. This is already one of my favorite movies of the year!

Dune 2 is in theaters now. The spring movie stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Josh Brolin, and Rebecca Ferguson.

Damsel — On Netflix

Image via Netflix

While the trailer for this fantasy movie is pretty close to what it delivers, I totally wasn't expecting just how beautiful the filmography would be. The rich jewel-toned aesthetic, deep metallics, and lush setting reminded me of iconic movies like Lord of the Rings, and if you're a fantasy fan, you won't want to miss it.

Damsel is one Netflix now and stars Angela Bassett, Millie Bobby Brown, Nick Robinson, Ray Winstone, and Robin Wright.

Irish Wish — On Netflix

Image via Patrick Redmond / Netflix

If the most important part of a rom-com for you is the chemistry between leads, then you absolutely have to add this 2024 movie to your watchlist. Everyone in this film blends so seamlessly that at times, I forgot I was watching fictional people! Plus, the beautiful Irish backdrop doesn't hurt. Watch our interviews with Lindsay Lohan and Ayesha Curry, and with Ed Speleers to hear more about the film!

Irish Wish hits Netflix March 15 and stars Lindsay Lohan, Jane Seymour, Elizabeth Tan, Ed Speleers, Alexander Vlahos, and Ayesha Curry.

French Girl — On MGM+

Image via Paramount Pictures

Vanessa Hudgens is back in this oh-so-French rom-com. The story follows Gordon, who then follows his girlfriend to Quebec when she moves before he can propose. He's prepared for the engagement, but when he gets there, he's not expecting to have to impress her entire family.

French Girl hits theaters March 15 and stars Zach Braff, Evelyne Brochu, Luc Picard, Antoine Olivier Pilon, Isabelle Vincent, Charlotte Aubin, Muriel Dutil, William Fichtner, and Vanessa Hudgens.

April Movies

Música — On Prime Video

Image via Amazon MGM Studios

IRL couple Camila Mendes & Rudy Mancuso star in this 2024 movie as Isabella and Rudy. In the film, Rudy, who has synesthesia, is a street performer who feels stuck between his passion for his music and the idea of settling down with his girlfriend. But it's when he meets Isabella that he truly feels a spark. Not only does Mancuso star in this film, but he also wrote and directed it!

Música hits Prime Video April 4, and stars Rudy Mancuso, Camila Mendes, Francesca Reale, Maria Mancuso, and J.B. Smoove.

Monkey Man — On Peacock

Image via Universal Pictures

Dev Patel stans rise! The actor is back, and this time around he's making his feature film directorial debut (did I mention he also co-wrote the script?). This 2024 movie follows Dev's character, who seeks revenge on a group of corrupt leaders responsible for his mother's death.

Monkey Man premieres theaters April 5 and stars Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Ashwini Kalsekar.

Civil War — Rent On Amazon Prime Video

Image via A24

Ex Machina and Annihilation director Alex Garland is back with Civil War, which takes a group of journalists across a war-torn version of modern America to try and beat a group of rebels to the White House. This might be a dystopian version of the US, but it seems eerily similar to our own.

Civil War hits theaters April 12 and stars Kirsten Dunst, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Wagner Moura, Jesse Plemmons, Cailee Spaeny.

Greatest Hits — On Hulu

Image via Searchlight Pictures

Rom-coms are back and better than ever in 2024, and Greatest Hits follows music lover Harriet as she realizes her favorite songs can take her back in time. She relives her past relationship through her ex's eyes at the same time she's falling for a new love in the present. Let's just say things get messy.

The Greatest Hits is available to stream on Hulu starting April 12. The film stars Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min, Austin Crute, and David Corenswet.

Sasquatch Sunset — Rent On Amazon Prime Video

Image via Bleecker Street

When I learned this spring movie was about Sasquatches, somehow I didn't realize that meant the actors would be walking around the forest in full-size Sasquatch suits. We still don't know all the info on this one but we do know it's about the last family of Sasquatches fighting for their survival. I have no clue what we're in for.

Sasquatch Sunset will be in theaters April 19. The 2024 movie stars Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Nathan Zellner, and Christophe Zajac-Denek.

Challengers — Rent On Amazon Prime Video

Image via Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images

In this 2024 movie, Zendaya stars as Tashi, who is predicted to be the biggest tennis star ever. But when Tashi gets injured during a match, she has to pivot from player to coach. And who better to mentor than her husband Art? (The answer is also apparently her ex Patrick, who's Art's ex best friend). Strap in folks, this one's going to get messy.

Challengers hits theaters April 26 and stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O'Connor.

May Movies

The Idea Of You — On Prime Video

Image via Alisha Wetherill/Prime

Harry Styles fans, listen up! This is basically every maladaptive daydreamer's wish come true: 40-year-old Solène (played by Anne Hathaway, because of course she is), starts a relationship with 24-year-old singer Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine) after seeing his set at Coachella.

The Idea of You drops on Prime Video May 2 and stars Nicholas Galitzine, Anne Hathaway, Ella Rubin, and Reid Scott.

The Fall Guy — Watch On Fandango At Home

Image via Universal Pictures

Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is a stuntman who said goodbye to Hollywood so he could take care of his mental and physical health. But when his ex's movie is disrupted (AKA, the star goes missing), Colt uses all his stuntman skills to track him down.

The Fall Guy hits theaters May 3 and stars Emily Blunt, Winston Duke, Ryan Gosling, Stephanie Hsu, Teresa Palmer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Hannah Waddingham.

2024 Summer Movies

Image via Pixar/Disney

When it's time to break out the bathing suits and spend all day out in the sun, you know it's time to unwind with a summer movie. All these 2024 movies touch on the idea of adventure and exploration, whether it be traveling to a new part of the world or understanding yourself better, which is exactly what summer should be about. (Although who am I kidding, so should the rest of the year).

June Movies

Inside Out 2 — Rent On Amazon Prime

Image via Disney Pixar

I absolutely sobbed during Inside Out in 2015, and I'm ready to get my heart broken again, TBH. This summer movie builds on all the emotions of the first one with some new additions: Anxiety, Embarrassment, Boredom, and Envy. Welcome to the teenage years.

Inside Out 2 hits theaters June 14, 2024 and stars Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Hawke, Liza Lapira, Diane Lane Amy Poehler, and Phyllis Smith.

The Watchers — Rent On Amazon Prime

Image via Warner Bros

2000s darling Dakota Fanning is back in a super creepy story about a group of strangers trapped in a single room together. They don't mind each other's company, but the creatures hidden in the forest who watch them all night? They don't like them quite as much. Check out our interviews with the cast!

The Watchers premieres in theaters June 14, and stars Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouere.

The Bikeriders — Rent On Amazon Prime

Image via Focus Features

Both Austin Butler and Mike Faist's second movie of the year comes out this June, and follows a group of Chicago bikeriders at the end of the '60s. While the characters are fictional, the movie is inspired by Danny Lyon's 1967 photobook of real riders!

The Bikeriders hits theaters June 21, 2024 and stars Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Mike Faist, Tom Hardy, Boyd Holbrook, Norman Reedus, and Michael Shannon.

Kinds Of Kindness — On Hulu August 30

Image via Searchlight Pictures

Emma Stone is back with her Poor Things and The Favourite director Yorgos Lanthimos for Kinds of Kindness. This movie follows three separate stories across modern America: a man desperately craving control over his own life, a policeman whose convinced his wife isn't the same woman he married, and a woman searching for someone with spectacular abilities.

Kinds of Kindness hits theaters June 21 and stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer.

A Quiet Place: Day One — On Paramount+ August 27

Image via Paramount Pictures

Go back to the very beginning with this new installment in the A Quiet Place franchise. This story takes place in New York City during the day the Death Angels came to earth. I'll admit I'm nervous to watch this because the last place I want to be during a major emergency is the middle of the city...

A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters June 28, 2024. The movie stars Djimon Hounsou, Lupita Nyong’o, Denis O’Hare Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff.

July Movies

Twisters — In Theaters Now

Image via Melinda Sue Gordon/Universal Pictures

This 2024 movie will really get your adrenaline pumping. Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos' characters are determined to make history by hunting tornadoes, but the movie also comes complete with cowboy hats, really cool sunglasses, and dramatic scenes in the rain.

Twisters hits theaters July 19, 2024 and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sasha Lane, Brandon Perea, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, and Maura Tierney.

Deadpool 3 (Deadpool & Wolverine) — In Theaters Now

Image via Marvel Studios

This summer movie will officially bring Wolverine into the MCU but there's also a change it'll bring Taylor Swift, which I would love to see. When Ryan Reynolds' Wade messes with the timeline, the TVA shows up to set things right. And, naturally, chaos ensues.

Deadpool 3 hits theaters July 26, 2024 and stars Morena Baccarin, Emma Corrin, Brianna Hildebrand, Hugh Jackman, Stefan Kapičić, Matthew Macfadyen, and Ryan Reynolds.

August Movies

This post has been updated.

After his breakout role as Spencer Dutton in 1923, and his take on Atlas in Colleen Hoover's viral It Ends With Us(opposite Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni), there's a very good chance you'll recognize Brandon Sklenar. And if not, it won't take long. In addition to his upcoming roles in thrillers The Housemaid and Drop, the actor will lead a brand new biopic about Olympic rowing champion Brad Alan Lewis (which feels very timely considering his Housemaid costar Sydney Sweeney is starring as boxer Christy Martin!).

Here's everything you need to know about Brandon Sklenar's Brad Alan Lewis biopic, The Olympian.

'The Olympian' script has been a favorite since 2016.

Based on Brad Alan Lewis' Assault on Lake Casitas, the movie follows Brad, who has one last opportunity to compete as a rower in the 1984 Olympics before he ages out. But when he loses his spot on the Olympic team, Brad pairs up with fisherman Paul Enquist to go rogue, beating the official Olympic boat in the national trials and winning America its first gold medal in rowing since 1964. Talk about an underdog story!! (Plus 2+ hours watching Brandon row? Yes please).

Despite the fact the movie's never been made, The Olympian script was on The 2016 Black List, an annual list of popular screenplays that have yet to be turned into movies. But it's finally writer-director Tony Tost's time.

And it's the perfect movie to watch before the 2028 Olympics.

It's still super early in the moviemaking process, meaning we don't have too many details, but considering the 2028 Olympics will once again be held in Los Angeles, there's no better time to bring this inspiring true story to the big screen!

We don't have info on The Olympian cast or release date quite yet, but stay tuned for everything you need to know about this new movie.

Next month, you can watch Brandon in 1923 season 2, which hits Paramount+ February 23 and is the "best thing" the actor's ever read.

"The finale of the series is probably one of the best things I’ve read in my life," he told Forbes. "I’ve kind of known how it was going to end since day one — Taylor [Sheridan] kind of told me. I knew the full arc of Spencer from day one, so in shooting part one, you're mindful of where he needs to go. I’m really excited."

Considering I haven't been able to stop talking about this show since I binged all of season 1 in a couple days, I'm really excited too, Brandon.

Thankfully there are quite a few new Brandon Sklenar movies on the horizon. Hoping to see him as Atlas Corrigan again? Here's what he had to say on a potential It Starts With Us movie.

Amid the tragedy of the LA fires, neighbors are opening their homes to one another. In addition to AirBnb offering temporary housing and various YMCAs and Red Cross locations opening their doors, victims are finding safety with friends and family — and that includes your favorite celebrities. Like Hilary Duff and husband Matthew Koma, who opened their home to Mandy Moore, Taylor Goldsmith, and their family.

Here's what Mandy Moore and Griffin Goldsmith have said about Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma — and the LA wildfires.

Despite losing everything, Griffin is touched by Hilary Duff & Matthew Koma.

After Mandy Moore and Taylor Goldsmith's home was affected by the wildfires in Altadena (they lost their garage, music studio, and back house), Mandy's brother-in-law Griffin Goldsmith revealed the family had been taken in by Hilary Duff.

"All of this so overwhelming," he said on Instagram. "Our dear friends @matthewkoma and @hilaryduff thought it wise to set up a gofundme for us to help with everything moving forward. Not to mention they are currently housing my brother’s family. They’ve taken care of my entire family from the moment this began. I will never be able to thank them adequately. This is the kindest act any human could do for another. They are the most beautiful, selfless people we’ve ever known."

"I’ve never been so moved in my life," he continues. "We are completely blown away. I can’t talk or think about it without crying. Like I said there aren’t words to describe how I feel. I’m doing my best. You all have completely changed what the picture of our future in Los Angeles looks like."

Mandy Moore shared the GoFundMe for Griffin and Kit on Instagram, writing in a since-deleted post that the couple "lost their home and everything they own in the Eaton Fire."

"With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever," Mandy says (via People). "Griff is a touring musician and also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion he uses to make a living. It’s all so much. So many have asked how to help during this unimaginable and stressful time … Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild."

And when people criticized her decision to share the GoFundMe link? "Kindly F OFF."

"People questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic," she continues. "Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe and i’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too."

And the main part of Mandy Moore's home is still "mostly intact."

The Princess Diaries actress shared photos from her family's property, revealing that the main part of their home is still standing. "It’s not livable but mostly intact," she said on Instagram January 10. "We lost Taylor and griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house. Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My in laws. My brother and sister in law- 6 weeks from welcoming their first baby. Our best friends. Feeling weird survivors guilt. We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support. Thanks for everyone for checking on us and offering us help. Altadena strong."

1923 season 2 premieres on February 23, 2025 — just over two years since the first season ended. Which means, if you're like me, you need a refresher on where your favorite characters stand before pressing play on the new episodes. Who were the Duttons in 1923? What happened to Spencer and Alex on 1923? If you've got questions about the season 1 finale, then you came to the right place!

Here's everything you forgot about the 1923 season 1 ending, before 1923 season 2 premieres February 23.

The '1923' Ending, Explained

Emerson Miller/Paramount+

The 1923 season 1 finale, "Nothing Left To Lose," finds the Duttons, and their friends, scattered across the world — and season 2 will be all about their fight to get back to one another.

After killing Sister Mary, Teonna (Aminah Nieves) is on the run from Father Renaud and Marshall Kent when she's finally reunited with her father Runs His Horse and Pete Plenty Clouds. Literally all I wanted this whole season was for Teonna to reunite with her family and I'm so glad the show gave her something good in the end. It also looks like there could be romance blossoming between her and Pete, but first things first: I need the beginning of season 2 to introduce Teonna to the Duttons (and the cast wants it too!).

The Duttons have a lot to lose in the new season of '1923'

Emerson Miller/Paramount+

Back in town, Jacob (Harrison Ford) finds himself face-to-face with Banner again, who's been released from prison (and who you'll remember was originally arrested for attempted murder. Not cool Banner!!!) But this group has more than Banner to deal with.

Jacob's foreman Zane is attacked by the police while his wife Alice is arrested for their interracial marriage. Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph), pregnant with her and Jack's (Darren Mann) first child, suffers a miscarriage. And when Whitfield shows up to the ranch, he announces that he's paid the property tax the Duttons owed, meaning if they don't pay him the full amount by the end of the year, the land is his. Even though Yellowstone proves the ranch belongs to the Dutton family in the present day, I can't help but feel a little nervous as 1923 keeps playing out.

Emerson Miller/Paramount+

Meanwhile, Spencer and Alex (Brandon Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer), on their way back to Montana via ship, are interrupted by Alex's ex-fiancé Arthur. Well, until he challenges Spencer to a duel, attacks Spencer after he loses, and ends up getting thrown overboard. Spencer and Alex are immediately separated (Spencer's to be dropped off at the next port, while Alex is locked in her room, set to return to London). But at the last moment, she finally runs to the deck waving a letter from Cara, and promises Spencer she'll meet him in Bozeman, Montana. And I'll definitely see them there.

Kitchen renovations are no joke – they're a major investment, so you’ll want to think twice before committing to fleeting trends — especially for big-ticket items like cabinets, countertops, and appliances. I’ll admit it: I’m still without a backsplash five years later because I can’t commit! While it’s perfectly fine to follow your heart if you love a particular look, kitchens can quickly feel outdated when you lean too heavily on short-lived fads. To help you create a timeless, stylish space, we’ve rounded up outdated kitchen trends to avoid — and easy ways to modernize if your kitchen is stuck in the past.

Scroll to see if you have these outdated kitchen trends in your house right now!

Mark McCammon

1. All-White Kitchens

The all-white kitchen craze has officially run its course, often feeling cold and sterile — like say a doctor’s office. Today’s kitchens are all about warmth and character, with palettes in soft neutrals, earthy greens, or bold, moody shades like oxblood and midnight blue. Choose a color that speaks to you for a timeless, inviting space you'll love for years to come.

Pixabay

2. Granite Countertops

This early 2000s trend has been overdone and feels so dated now. Marble, sleek quartz, even butcher block are more classic choices.

Curtis Adams

3. Ornate Cabinetry

The color and detail of this traditional kitchen feels drab and dated. Instead, look for flat-panel or Shaker-style cabinets with clean, minimal lines.

Terry Magallanes

4. Farmhouse Decor

This kitchen is a lesson is don'ts. The grey vinyl flooring (especially hideous!), farmhouse stools, and white cabinetry hail from a decades-old trend that needs to disappear in 2025.

Home Depot

5. Glass Mosaic Tiles

Glass mosaics, popular in the 2000s and 2010s, tend to lean toward a transitional aesthetic, which is the opposite of an organic, minimalist, or vintage-inspired design kitchen are craving now. The grout lines are bit difficult to clean too between all the tiny tiles. Zellige tile or a slab of marble are a more sophisticated look for today's kitchens.

Level 23 Media

6. Black & White

The stark contrast between black and white can come across as harsh and overly dramatic, a look that peaked in the 2010s. The farmhouse sign doesn't help warm it up either. Soften the look with earthy, natural tones.

Curtis Adams

7. Subway Tile

Subway tile is classic, so there’s no need to rip it out if it still brings you joy. However, the white subway tile paired with dark grout has overstayed its welcome. This overdone trend became so ubiquitous that it lost its charm and individuality, leaving kitchens looking more cookie-cutter than full of character.

Amazon

8. Industrial Lighting

This nod to the past needs to, sorry, stay in the past. Look for organic, natural forms and lighting that reflects your kitchen's unique aesthetic.

Shutterstock

9. Tuscan Style

This rustic kitchen feels dated with its heavy, ornate features like dark wood cabinetry and trim. Go for clean, brighter spaces.

Shutterstock

10. Tile Countertops

Natural stone, marble, and wood are trending for 2025. Grout-filled countertops like this one are not. Time to go!

Max Vakhtbovycn

11. Moroccan Mosaic Tile

Kitchens are becoming elegant places to cook, eat, and gather. This busy design can look cheap. The white mid-century Eames-style chairs, sorry to say, are also out.

Andrea Davis

12. Barn Doors

Using barn doors between the kitchen and other spaces is a look that is officially out. They proved to be not that functional and the look is now dated and too kitschy. Buh bye!
