You may have been putting off redecorating your space for a number of reasons. Perhaps you are having a hard time even knowing where to start or the cost of hiring a designer doesn’t fit into your budget. With all the home makeover shows and DIY tutorials, you may be experiencing information overload. But redecorating doesn’t have to be scary; it can be a fun opportunity to flex your creative muscles and get exactly what you want. We’ve partnered with our friends at Café Appliances to walk you through the design process of how we reimaged our Brit + Co test kitchen into an entertaining haven full of personality. Scroll on for our expert tips and essential steps to turn your kitchen into the space you’ve always dreamed of.
CREATE A MOOD BOARD
The best place to begin your redesign is with a good, old-fashioned mood board. Start by gathering photos that speak to you. We wanted a crisp and clean style for our kitchen and started building our board by finding photos of kitchens that really inspired us.
But don’t limit yourself to strictly photos of kitchens. Look for colors, textures, and materials that make you feel good. You can apply aesthetics you are drawn to in a more literal sense by choosing wallpaper, appliances, and decor. For example, we loved the grid pattern from the building in ours and applied it as wallpaper in our kitchen.
A mood board helps you to establish the entire vibe and style of your kitchen. When it comes to your color palette, it’s best to establish a hierarchy of color. Pick out a few colors that you really like and choose two of them to be your primary colors. From our palette, we chose the lighter and darker pink hues to be our main colors. The others were brought to life in the details via the appliances, art, plants, dinnerware. We were really drawn to the unique copper texture of the appliance hardware we found as inspiration, which led us to create a lovely color story, mixing copper and rose gold accents together.
DREAM IT/ SKETCH IT/ DO IT
You don’t need a lot of fancy tools to sketch your vision. A super easy way to do it yourself if you don’t have access to a digital program is to take a photo of your space and get some tracing paper.
You can trace over your current kitchen, play with color, add in additional items, and test fixtures. At this point, start to pull colors and textures from your mood board and apply them into your design.
PICK COMPLEMENTARY MATERIALS
PICK OUT APPLIANCES
Say goodbye to your clunky, uninspiring kitchen appliances and hello to a new collection that actually has personality. Picking out appliances has never been this easy with Café Appliances hardware and appliances mix and match system you can get exactly what you want. With finish choices from Matte White, Matte Black and Stainless, you can pair with your preferred hardware choice of Brushed Bronze, Brushed Black, Brushed Copper or Brushed Stainless.
Prices shown above are Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) - Actual retail prices may vary by dealer. MSRP applies to the continental 48 United States and does not include such items as delivery, installation, installation accessories (i.e. range cords), or removal of old appliances. Consult your local authorized Café appliances dealer for its prices.
These appliances are totally gorgeous and you can let your personal style shine through by mixing and matching the customizable hardware. We chose Matte White with Brushed Copper handles to brighten up our space and love the idea of mixing metals.
STYLE LIKE A PRO
Bringing in greenery is a great way to breathe life into your kitchen. If you don’t get much natural light in your house, you can opt for low-light plants or for a fresh bouquet.
Your dinnerware is a great opportunity to bring in additional textures and colors. If you don’t have open shelving than your finishing accents and decor will do. These accents help to bring the whole kitchen together. Bonus points if you keep all your dishes neatly organized. For some inspiration, take our “Find Your Kitchen Style” quiz, here.
Fun fact; so far the Crisp & Clean style, which is the style of the B+C test kitchen has been the most popular.
