6 Movie and TV Characters That Are Back-to-School Style Icons

Creating that perfect capsule wardrobe for college is easier than ever this year with a little help from our fave university icons. Class, it’s time to turn our attention to (and take inspiration from) the it-girls who came before us. Before Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and the like, there were movie and TV characters who redefined the college-woman aesthetic forever. Ahead, check out six iconic ladies of (pretend) higher education from whom you’ll most definitely want to steal a few tricks. Consider this your college style cheat sheet.

Denise Huxtable (The Cosby Show / A Different World)

All hail the eclectic style queen of college! Lisa Bonet (middle) as free-spirited, wild-child Denise on The Cosby Show and the first season of A Different World was pretty much the epitome of cool. Whether she was rocking locs or wild curls, camo or floral, Denise just gave off the air that she actually gave no f**ks what anyone thought of her look. Master her sartorial swagger with a slew of mismatched patterns and prints, perfectly worn denim, and a variety of vintage toppers in the mix. Confidence in who you are? We’re so here for that.

Whitley Gilbert (A Different World)

At the other end of the fashion spectrum was Bonet’s A Different World castmate, Jasmine Guy, as the incomparable Whitley Gilbert. An entitled Southern belle who started out snobby but eventually evolved into someone who wanted to land more than just an M.R.S. degree, Whitley’s polished look (particularly for a college student) is the stuff of TV legend. Turtlenecks, pearls, tailored blazers and perfectly placed hair bows were her hallmarks, and she wore them like the boss-lady-in-training she was. Whitley rocked labels like Chanel, Ferragamo, and Gucci on the daily, so keep an eye out for a little luxury inspo for your back-to-school shopping list. Get it, girl. (Photo via NBCU/Getty)

Felicity Porter (Felicity)

Having followed her crush to college across the country from California to New York City, Felicity Porter (Keri Russell) was the wide-eyed ingenue you couldn’t help but love. Even as her style evolved throughout the series from Converse Chucks and slouchy backpacks to endless cashmere sweaters and ’90s era denim. Scarves were an important component of her look, but at the end of the day, she was always easy-going and unfussy with her fashion. Felicity never let her clothes wear her, which is an important style lesson to learn. (Also, #TeamBenForever) (Photo via Touchstone Pictures/ABC via Getty)

Jenny Cavalleri (Love Story)

Perhaps the most classic college style icon of all time, Ali Macgraw’s Jenny Cavalleri in Love Story is forever remembered not only for her tragic plotline but for her ultra-chic wardrobe that inspired a generation. Gorgeous coats, ribbed turtlenecks and a sleek middle part were her trademarks. And if you’ve ever worn a knit beanie with your locks framing your face on either side, well, you’ve pretty much got Jenny to thank. Now, pass the Kleenex, please. (Photo via Paramount/Getty)

Elle Woods (Legally Blonde)

Aside from gifting us the “Bend and Snap,” which would be reason enough to give thanks, Legally Blonde bestowed upon us the unapologetically bold style icon of Elle Woods, played by Reese Witherspoon, of course. From her colored lenses (currently experiencing a revival) to her ability to work satin, sequins, and pink into any outfit (day or night), Elle taught us that you don’t have to look — or be — like everyone else to be successful and that fashion should be, above all else, fun. Let’s hear it for the girl! (Photo via Tracy Bennett/MGM/Getty)

Lelaina Pierce (Reality Bites)

Okay, so technically, she was just post-college, but regardless, Lelaina Pierce (Winona Ryder) was pretty much the epitome of 90’s style. Her shaggy pixie cut, her thrift store dresses, her chunky shoes: They all scream Gen-X angst and “I actually woke up like this.” Her effortless, messy-chic vibe also perfectly sums up the confusion many post-grads feel in the real world — and she makes it look good (just check out her smokin’ red tank and jeans look in the infamous gas station scene). After spending decades in the entertainment industry, some celebs like Pamela Anderson have opted for a makeup-free look. No one can forget when she stunned photographers right before Paris Fashion Week's Vivienne Westwood show last year by rocking a bare face. She told Vogue France, she wasn't thinking about not "wearing any makeup." However, she didn't want to "compete with the clothes" she was wearing. She felt "freedom" from not trying to "be the prettiest girl in the room" which speaks volumes to us!

Now, Pamela continues to embrace the no-makeup life — and not only does she look gorgeous, but she seems SO happy! The star shared recently how this lifestyle change impacts her day-to-day, and it's honestly incredibly relatable. Here's what she had to say!

Here's what Pamela Anderson just said about adopting a no-makeup life!

1. It saves her a lot of time.

Pamela Anderson stopped by the Live with Kelly and Markshow to talk about filming The Last Showgirl, her childhood, and how not wearing makeup has been beneficial for her. While her makeup-free clip from the episode isn't available on YouTube, PEOPLE reports hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos asking her how her decision has changed her life.

Ripa started with, "You don't travel with a glam squad. How liberating is that for you," while Consuelos followed with, "And how much time have you gotten back?"

The former Baywatch star said she's "saved a lot of time" and admitted that her sons "used to say that I spent half my life in a makeup chair."

2. She feels more focused in general.

Pamela Anderson also admitted things feel easier for her in general. "I feel like I could focus better when I did the film, too." And her life outside of that? She said she's "gotten out of wearing makeup and it's been fun."

It's interesting because Kelly Ripa shared she's been inspired by Pamela Anderson's makeup-free choice. She remembers not wearing makeup for a short while and said to herself, "'Pamela Anderson is a genius." Kelly even thought for a moment, "This is the way to live." We're so here for it!

3. She lives for a glam moment, but appreciates simplicity now.

Pamela's all for being makeup-free now, but she's not bashing glam moments. She actually "loved it" because "it's fun when you're new in the business and you get all this attention." She's just at a point where she's "done that" and wants to "simplify and keep it low key."

She really does "love being elegant, sophisticated" but has found what "works best" for her.

Is Pamela Anderson inspiring you to embrace a no-makeup life too? Let us know on Facebook!

I've been on the edge of my seat for Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson's Verity (even before I saw It Ends With Us), and after hearing about the first look that aired at CinemaCon this week, the internet is even more locked in on the “gothic, psychosexual thriller” (as the film's described by director Mike Showalter) than they've ever been.

Here's what the Verity cast, including Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, had to say about the new movie from Colleen Hoover.

What is Verity about?

Any Colleen Hoover fan knows the Verity movie revolves around Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), who gets hired by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) to finish his wife's novels. Renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) is no longer able to write after a tragic accident, but what begins as an exciting project takes a turn for the horrifying when Lowen discovers Verity is hiding a terrible secret.

Anne Hathaway promises 'Verity' is worth "waiting for."

At Amazon MGM's CinemaCon presentation, the Verity cast, Colleen Hoover, and Mike Showalter offered attendees a new look at the movie via video message.

“My character Verity Crawford is an accomplished author with a tragic past,” Anne said, while Dakota joked, “Or is she?”

Josh added, “My character, Jeremy Crawford, is a devoted husband who’s committed to protecting his wife’s legacy.”

“Or is he?” Dakota said again.

“One thing we can say for sure is that seeing Verity in theaters will give fans the shared experience they’ve been waiting for," Anne promised.

And everyone's losing it over the "wild" footage from CinemaCon!

The presentation also included the first trailer for the movie, which showed Verity and Jeremy meeting at a bar — which explains those iconic set leaks of Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnettrunning through the streets of New York! And when Jeremy's introduced to Lowen and brings her to their giant home, he tells her "she's the only writer who can do this"...and then they begin their own illicit affair. And as they have a hot make out sesh on the couch, Lowen realizes she's kissing Verity and not Jeremy. Wow.

"Just saw the first footage for VERITY starring Josh Hartnett, Anne Hathaway, and Dakota Johnson," @JoeySpielberg says on X. It looks like it’s gonna be good but I honestly couldn’t tell you the plot is but it’s definitely gonna be wild. Seems like a movie you just don’t know what happens next."

"The footage showcases a sexy, mind-bending thriller," @howatdk agrees.

We're sure to see many more shocks and surprises when Verity hits theaters May 15, 2026.

Check out the 10 Most-Anticipated Book-To-Film Adaptations We Can't Wait To See In 2025.

Blake Lively was just spotted living her best life vacationing in Capri, Italy donning the cutest one-piece swimsuit – in perhaps one of the most unexpected colors for the season!

Miss Blake took a break from filming A Simple Favor 2 to board a boat (jealous!) wearing a bold coral swimmie from Gooseberry Intimates – and I was immediately convinced 2024 is finally the year of one-piece swimsuits. Ugh, her power!

Unlike most celebrity style we're seeing these days, Blake's swimsuit is super easy to track down and is fairly accessible price-wise. Below, find all the details you need to know about Blake's one-and-done vacay look before you snag the ultimate swim staple for yourself.

Shop Blake Lively's One-Piece Swimsuit

Gooseberry Intimates One Piece in Coral

This $99 swimsuit from Gooseberry Intimates is downright flirty. Just look at that plunging neckline! The v-neck effect is overwhelmingly sultry and sexy, so there'll be no doubt that you'll feel confident AF every beach or pool day you wear it. No wonder celebs like Blake Lively, Sydney Sweeney, Kendall Jenner, and Vanessa Hudgens love it!

The bottom half of the suit boasts a cheeky cut with a playful high leg that adds a flattering elongating effect on your legs. Since it's specifically crafted to sculpt your figure, there are no annoying cups or inserts to mess with, plus the material is double-lined for additional peace of mind!

The suit comes in sizes XS-XL and is fitted with thin adjustable spaghetti straps so you can find your perfect fit. The solid color opens doors for endless styling possibilities, whether you wear it with a swimsuit cover-up to prep for the pool or with a flowy maxi skirt on dry land. You can also shop it in 14 other hues, from key lime green to royal blue.

With solid TLC, this Gooseberry Intimates swimsuit can last you years and years (and years). Now that's what I call a good investment. According to the brand, "each garment is hand dyed, cut and sewed to order," so you can get excited knowing this one-piece was made just for you.

Gooseberry Intimates One Piece Cutout Black

This luxe-looking black one-piece swimsuit is also made from figure-sculpting materials that hug you in in all the right places. Compared to Blake Lively's coral swimsuit, this one has a bit more coverage up top and on the bottom. The double-lined fabric swarms the entire suit with comfort and coverage, including the bust and the medium-coverage brief areas.

The exposed back and keyhole cutout in the front are sure to turn all heads toward you. The scoopneck suit flexes some sleek gold hardware: a ring in the front, and an adorable little tag on the back for added elegance.

This chic cutout piece comes in 6 other colors, so you're bound to land on one that fits your vibe the most. It's shoppable in sizes XS-XL for $99!

Gooseberry Intimates One Piece Tank Baby Pink

This one-piece is probably my favorite of them all. Sure, the square neckline feels less revealing up top, but the style is still super sexy with high legs and a cheeky brief cut. Plus, I just can't resist baby pink!

This pick is crafted with Gooseberry Intimates' signature double-lined fabric for added modesty (love it!), and it comes in especially handy for wearing lighter colors like this subtle pink.

The thin, adjustable straps don't feel intrusive, which is great for when you're strolling along the sand or dipping your toes in the pool. It comes in sizes XS-XL and 5 other eye-catching colors for $99.

Gooseberry Intimates Sculpting Top Rum + Bikini Bottom

This bikini top feels like it's inspired by vintage lingerie, and I'm very here for it! The seaming on the underwired bust is reminiscent of your classic balconette bra, except this suit flaunts a tad more coverage. You're easily able to find your perfect swimsuit fit with the help of adjustable straps and a back clasp closure.

The double-lined bottoms, on the other hand, aren't adjustable, but stretch accordingly to your shape. They are perfectly mid-rise and cheeky, with a flirty high-cut leg in tow. While I adore this rusty red color, this set also comes in black, white, royal blue, and baby pink.

This bikini is currently shoppable in sizes XS-L. The top is $55 and the bottoms are $45.

A new Trader Joe’s skincare find just hit shelves, and beauty fans are already reeling about its similarities to more luxury products! The night cream features a handful of ingredients that are commonly found in pricier skincare options, but this TJ’s pick costs a fraction of its suspected competitors.

As a Versed Sweet Relief overnight cream loyalist (I use it every single day without fail), I must say I'm thoroughly convinced to try this new Trader Joe’s item after reading shoppers’ reactions!

Scroll on to discover the all-new Trader Joe’s skincare product worth adding to your routine!

Reddit

Trader Joe’s Night Cream is a brand-new addition to their collection of skincare goodies. In fact, it’s so new that it’s not listed on their website quite yet. Despite its newcomer status, tons of shoppers are already buzzing about the Trader Joe’s Night Cream.

Reddit

One TJ’s fan on Reddit surfaced the new find on the r/TraderJoe’s subreddit, and skincare lovers were super quick to chime in.

Per the post, the Trader Joe’s Night Cream is formulated with Irish sea moss extract, a fermented mushroom complex, ceramides, and sodium hyaluronate. It’s also unscented, which can be super beneficial for sensitive skin in need of moisture.

The TJ’s fan that found the night cream on shelves reported that it is “very thick but dry at the same time. I really had to work it into the skin,” they said. “Very odd consistency.”

Kaboompics / PEXELS

Another shopper that tried the Trader Joe’s Night Cream weighed in on their experience:

“Using it sparingly since I’m quite pregnant and don’t want to mess with sensitive skin but so far it’s quite nice!” they said. “Thick but not greasy in the slightest. I still feel it on my skin when I rinse my face in the AM which means it held up overnight in my dry altitude climate.”

Cottonbro Studio / PEXELS

Several more users compared this new TJ’s formula to other products on the market, mentioning Asian beauty and even retinol for its anti-aging benefits.

“It’s interesting to see all the fermented ingredients in this!” one person commented. “I know that they have been very popular in Asian skincare for years, but I don’t see it that often in the States. I’m excited to try this! Thanks for sharing, I’m going to be on the lookout now.”

“Based on the ingredients list, I suspect this might be a Korean product,” another TJ’s shopper agreed.

“Irish Sea Moss is considered an excellent retinol alternative so if it agrees with one’s skin, not a bad option for those who can’t tolerate or don’t want harsh actives,” one more skincare fan noted.

MARA Beauty

One Redditor confirmed that a single 2-ounce jar of the Trader Joe’s Night Cream cost just $9. Similar moisturizers that leverage sea moss in their formulas (like Wildling’s Moonbounce 2% Bioretinol Irish Sea Moss Plumping Moisturizer and MARA's SeaDream Algae Crème) average around $73, which is insane.

KoolShooters / PEXELS

This TJ’s find could be a great way to try out the sea moss skincare wave without shelling out a fortune! Per episode 87 of The Inside Trader Joe's Podcast, it’s certifiably “high-quality” and “incredibly functional.”

The Husbands chronicles one woman's journey as she explores an ever-changing life with different men she's never met before. But this isn't a tale of reckless one-night stands. On the contrary, Lauren will be as confused as readers and viewers because she's not sure what's happening.

It all begins with her return to her home and the realization that a man who's strangely familiar with her is calling himself her husband. Unbeknownst to her, she's been married to Michael for a while despite not knowing who he is. What's even more ironic is that her friends think something's wrong with her because they know who her husband is.

In the midst of trying to decipher this phenomenon, Lauren's shocked when Michael disappears into the attic and a new man returns in his place. As she watches her surroundings change to accommodate life with him, Lauren slowly realizes her attic has created a portal that allows her to live out different fantasies with a revolving door of men. But, she'll have to ask herself what she really wants and if she's willing to hang on to one reality instead of wishing for more.
