7 Things to Know About Season 22 Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr.

Talk about a blast from the past! In an announcement on Good Morning America today, ABC surprised fans with their new Bachelor, season eight Bachelorette runner-up Arie Luyendyk Jr. If you’re new to Bachelor Nation, his name may be unfamiliar, but OG fans of the show will remember Luyendyk losing his chance at love with Emily Maynard to Jef Holm in 2012.

At the time, there was speculation that Luyendyk would take up the mantle of the next Bachelor, but fellow contestant Sean Lowe ended up in that position instead. Now, it’s Luyendyk’s time to shine. Here are seven things you may not know (or may have forgotten!) about the season 22 star.

1. Auto racing is in his blood. Luyendyk’s dad, Arie Luyendyk Sr., is a two-time winner of the Indianapolis 500, and Luyendyk himself qualified for the 2006 race and has also competed in the Indy Lights Series.

2. He’s a bronze medalist in the X Games. Luyendyk competed in the X Games in 2014 and 2015, winning a bronze medal in Off-Road Truck Racing in his second year.

3. He’s a realtor. When Luyendyk needed an off-season career, he looked into the world of real estate. Last year, he got his realtor’s license.

4. He’s dated multiple Bachelor Nation stars. Afterhis on-screen romance with Maynard fizzled, Luyendyk dated two other former Bachelor contestants. In 2012, he hooked up with Courtney Robertson after she ended her engagement to Ben Flajnik, and in 2013, he very briefly dated Selma Alameri, a contestant from Lowe’s season.

5. He is one of the oldest Bachelor contestants in the show’s history. With his 36th birthday just around the corner, Luyendyk is one of the oldest leading men the show has ever had. (Season six Bachelor Byron Velvick was 40, and two-time Bachelor Brad Womack was 38 during his second stint.) “I’ll be 36 in a few weeks, so for me, it’s time,” Luyendyk said on GMA. “All my friends around me have kids and have grown up. I feel like I’m the last one of my friends to really take that last step.”

6. He speaks Dutch. Luyendyk, who was born in the Netherlands, spoke Dutch to his family during his hometown date with Maynard in 2012.

7. He’s superstitious. During his announcement on GMA, Luyendyk revealed that he was wearing the same suit he wore to his younger brother’s wedding, in the hopes that it would bring him good luck in finding his future bride.

How can I watch "The Golden Bachelorette"?

According to ABC, The Golden Bachelorette will air on ABC and be available to stream on Hulu the following day. Historically, the different installments of The Bachelor have aired on Thursdays at 8pm ET.

What is the cast of "The Golden Bachelor" up to now?

It just so happens that our most beloved contestants from The Golden Bachelor, Kathy and Susan, have been working on a podcast titled Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour. They've posted tons of episodes dishing on The Golden Bachelor experience.

The pair definitely showed some real chemistry during the first-ever Golden Bachelor, and the podcast is a true testament to their friendship.

“We can finish each other's sentences,” Susan told PhillyVoice about Kathy. “We're night and day, but yet we're the same in a sense. We just roll off each other, and it's so easy.”

As far as the winners of The Golden Bachelor, Gerry and Theresa, things worked out for a bit, but they mutually decided to end their marriage in April 2024. Many speculated that they split because they had settled down in different places of the country and found it hard to relocate for love.

“We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home,” Theresa said during an interview on Good Morning America, “but we never got to the point where we made that decision.”

How successful was "The Golden Bachelor"?

According to Variety, the first installment of The Golden Bachelor reached about 43.4 million viewers, making it ABC’s most-watched unscripted premiere on Hulu. The finale amassed 6.1 million viewers, deeming it the biggest episode in Bachelor history in nearly 3 years.

We had so much fun watching the very first installment of The Golden Bachelor, that we just can’t wait to see the roles reversed for The Golden Bachelorette. The hype is very real!

As much as I love celebrity couples, I love celebrity sibling relationships even more. And Elle and Dakota Fanning are two sisters I've grown up watching since I first saw Dreamer in 2005. Considering Elle Fanning is only five months older than me, and I have a sister of my own, this is one relationship that feels particularly familiar. And while Elle has also watched Dakota Fanning act since we were kids, Dakota just revealed seeing Elle onscreen is just as special for her.

Here's why Dakota & Elle Fanning get emotional seeing each other onscreen.

Elle remembers "sobbing" during one particularly emotional Dakota Fanning movie.

“When Elle’s in anything, it makes me feel it deeper,” Dakota Fanning said at TheWrap’s Power Women Summit on December 3. “She never can fully disappear into a character totally for me as her sister. She obviously does an amazing job, but I’m always gonna see my little sister a little bit.”

And Elle is just as touched by Dakota's roles, and remembers "uncontrollably sobbing" after seeing Now Is Good, a movie where Dakota's character was dying of cancer. “Because it was my sister, I had a real traumatic reaction after that premiere and the screening,” Elle says. “Obviously the acting, but it was something felt on a deeper level.”

“I’m doing this job, I’m an actor because my sister started before me and I watched her,” Elle continues. “I wanted to do exactly what my big sister wanted to do.”

And their movies have also made an impact on everyone who watches them.

When Brit + Co caught up with Dakota Fanning at the world premiere of The Watchers, I had to ask about one of her most iconic movies: Uptown Girls. "I love it," she says of TikTok memes and edits giving the movie new life. "It's nostalgic for people who are kind of around my age, who grew up watching that movie, I think it's like a comfort movie for people. And so I love that people are still revisiting it and loving it. And maybe now that everyone's older [they're] understanding different things about it."

Dakota starred opposite Brittany Murphy, who also had roles in movies like Clueless, 8 Mile, and Girl, Interrupted. Brittany passed away in 2009 when Dakota was 15. "I loved Brittany so much and I still miss her," she says. "So anytime that she has, you know, a moment where people think about her is also nice."

You can see Elle Fanning in A Complete Unknown, in theaters December 25, and you can also stream Dakota Fanning's new show The Perfect Couple on Netflix now.
