9 Celebs Who Chose Surrogates to Have a Baby

Celebrities, they’re just like us. They pretend that their yoga pants aren’t actually their PJs, they binge watch the Gilmore Girls and they occasionally accidentally eat the whole cake. Oh wait, no they don’t. But they do struggle with some of the same issues that we “normal” people do, such as infertility. Sometimes baby dreams happen by alternative means. Sometimes, when baby-making gets tough, the tough get — a surrogate! These celeb parents show just how amazingly awesome surrogacy can be for adding a new baby to the family.

1. Tyra Banks: Before you go assuming that the supermodel chose a surrogate to keep her runway figure, think again. After undergoing IVF treatments for fertility problems, Tyra chose to use a surrogate. Tyra (and boyfriend Erik Asla) welcomed a beautiful baby boy named York via their surrogate in January of 2016.

2. Elizabeth Banks: The odds of having a baby via surrogate were ever in The Hunger Games star’s favor. Not only did the actress have one baby through surrogacy, but she had two — sons, Felix and Magnus. (Photo via Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/Getty)

3. Sarah Jessica Parker: SJP and hubby Matthew Broderick had twins by a surrogate. After having their first son James Wilkie the old fashioned way, the couple struggled to expand their family. Luckily, they were able to find a surrogate who could make their baby dreams come true. When the press caught wind of the surrogate’s identity, SJP noted that the woman’s phone and computer were hacked and she was followed. Yikes! (Photo via Gilbert Carrasquillo/Getty)

4. Nicole Kidman: Like SJP, Nicole also had trouble conceiving for a second time. When the actress and her country star honey Keith Urban wanted to add to their brood, they choose a surrogate. (Photo via C Flanigan/Getty)

5. Neil Patrick Harris: Sometimes fertility issues aren’t the focus of surrogacy. When the actor and his husband David Burtka decided to become daddies, they obviously needed a womb to grow their baby. In 2010, the couple officially became fathers to fraternal twins Harper and Gideon.

6. Giuliana Rancic: When she’s not roaming the red carpet, Giuliana is busy being a mama. In 2012, the E! star and her husband Bill welcomed their son Duke using a surrogate. Following a double mastectomy, Giuliana had been taking cancer-suppressing meds, making getting pregnant herself a non-option. (Photo via Amanda Edwards/Getty)

7. Jordana Brewster: She may be Fast and Furious, but she’s also a mom! The actress has had two sons (Julian and Rowan) using surrogates. (Photo via Jim Spellman/Getty)

8. Lucy Liu: In 2015, Lucy had her son Rockwell Lloyd in 2015 via a surrogate. The actress decided it was time to have a child — and didn’t need a ring on her finger to do it!

9. Jimmy Fallon: After struggling with fertility issues for five years, the late night host and his wife Nancy finally got their baby. In 2013, the couple used a surrogate to give birth to baby girl Winnie. One year later, the couple welcomed their second surrogate baby, Frances Cole.

Western baby names are riding high in 2025 as many parents pay homage to the history, spirit, and rustic charm of the Old West — and as many parents keep binging Yellowstone, 1923, and Landman. ;) With a growing appreciation for strong, adventurous, and timeless names that connote perseverance and grit, this trend is gaining serious traction.

However, classic choices like Dolly or Walker aren't just seeing a comeback. Moms and dads are also drawing inspiration from the Old West for a more modern twist. Here are eight Western-themed baby names that are roping up parents-to-be in 2025.

These are the western baby names people can't get enough of for 2025!

1. Lainey

Tatiana Syrikova

Inspired by rising country music star Lainey Wilson, this name carries a Southern charm that's warm and inviting.

It means "shining" and "bright," making it the perfect selection for a little girl with a bold personality.

2. Sierra

Foden Nguyen

Nothing captures the rugged beauty of the Wild West quite like its towering mountain ranges, and Sierra is a name that totally embodies that spirit.

Referencing the Sierra Nevada mountains, this name means "jagged" and can reflect both strength and natural beauty. It's great for parents who want a name that feels adventurous yet effortlessly elegant.

3. Belle

Subin Cherian

A more classic girl's name option is Belle, which in French means "pretty" and "beautiful." It's graceful in its simplicity but also carries a fierce history.

Belle Starr was a legendary outlaw in the Wild West who came to be known as "The Bandit Queen." So, whether you're inspired by this name's vintage appeal or rebellious roots, it blends strength with sweetness.

4. Addilyn

Selin Hacıkerimoğlu

Parents seeking a modern option for their baby girl might like the name Addilyn, which is a fresh take on the name Adeline.

Addilyn means "noble one" and has almost a melodic ring to it. This name is well-suited for a little girl who's determined with a free spirit.

5. Maverick

Luis Zambrano

Moving onto boy's names, few capture the rebellious essence of the Wild West quite like Maverick.

It actually means "an independent man who avoids conformity," so it's perfect for a young boy who's ready to forge his own path. Maverick simultaneously exudes confidence, adventure, and a touch of rugged charm.

6. Jackson

George Chambers

This name brings to mind Jackson, Wyoming, a stunning city surrounded by mountains and wide-open landscapes. It also means "son of Jack," so if you want to honor a relative named Jack without using junior, it's an excellent solution.

Plus, for fans of Grey's Anatomy, it carries an extra dose of charm thanks to the charismatic Dr. Jackson Avery.

7. Cash

juliane Monari

Johnny Cash was a country music legend who embraced a wide range of genres, from blues and rock to folk.

Paying homage to the star, the name Cash has roots dating back to the eighteenth century and carries an ageless edge. It connotes individuality and strength.

8. Wyatt

HIGHER VIBRATION

Last but not least is Wyatt, a rough-and-tumble name that's synonymous with cowboys and legendary Western men.

Popularized by figures like Wyatt Earp, a frontiersman and lawman, this name means "brave in war" and is a wonderful fit for a courageous little boy who craves adventure.

While extremely unique and modern-sounding baby names have risen to popularity in recent years, especially among celebrities, more moms and dads are going against the status quo. In fact, "old-fashioned" baby names are making a comeback, and to some, it might be a bit shocking. The resurgence has, in part, been furthered by TikTok, with trends like "old person baby names" and "old money baby names" going viral. But it's a bandwagon that might be worth jumping on.

Classic baby names have an undoubted strength to them. Those who came before us and survived difficult events in history, from world wars to the great depression, had a certain resourcefulness and grit that might feel less prevalent nowadays. So, whether you're currently expecting or just hoping to stockpile some adorable baby names for future additions, here are eight old-fashioned baby names that are still going strong in 2025.

These are the old-fashioned baby names people can't get enough of right now!

1. Hazel

Tatiana Syrikova

According to the Social Security Administration, Hazel was the eighteenth most popular girl's name in 1897. Over a century later, this name is exploding in popularity again. It was even the twenty-fourth most popular girl's name in 2024.

Hazel, which means "from the hazelnut tree," is of English origin. It's beautiful, vintage, and can be used for boys, too.

2. Ruby

Anastasiya Gepp

Fans of luxurious red gems may love the baby name Ruby. It's Latin in origin and means "deep red precious stone."

It was especially favored during the early twentieth century, peaking as the twenty-second most popular baby name in 1911. But aside from evoking images of strong, rare stones, Ruby is also a name that's been carried by many notable figures, including Ruby Bridges, a civil rights pioneer, and Ruby Johnson, a 1960s soul singer.

3. Edith

Natalie Bond

The name Edith means "prosperous in strife" and is British in origin. It was quite popular from the late 1800s to early 1900s and, like Ruby, has been held by various influential women in history.

For instance, Edith Roosevelt was the First Lady of the United States from 1901 to 1909, and Edith Wharton was an American writer who penned numerous influential works and became the first woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction with her novel, "The Age of Innocence."

4. Fern

William Fortunato

With English roots and a meaning tied to nature, Fern is a charming botanical name that once flourished before witnessing a decline in popularity during the 1940s.

It has an undeniable vintage appeal and earthy simplicity that makes it a go-to choice for parents who love the great outdoors. Other classic names with a similar vibe include Willow and Faye.

5. August

Vika Glitter

Moving on to boys, August is a strong name of German origin that means "great" and "magnificent." Your baby doesn't have to be born in the month of August to take on this name, either.

It soared in popularity in the United States during the 1890s, and today, it's still considered stylish and sophisticated. Not to mention, August has plenty of cute nickname options, like "Gus" or "Auggie."

6. Franklin

Louis LIM

Franklin is another iconic, old-fashioned name that lends itself to plenty of nickname variations. It's English, means "free man," and was actually held by two different United States presidents: Franklin Pierce and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

For short, babies named Franklin can be called "Frank" or "Frankie," the latter of which is sometimes used as a baby girl's name as well.

7. Edmund

Ksenia Chernaya

Those who love "Bridgerton" might be especially fond of the name Edmund due to the Bridgerton family's charming patriarch, Lord Bridgerton.

This English name means "fortunate land protector" and represents a more unique option than Edward. It has a timeless charm and carries historical significance while still offering plenty of opportunities for nicknames like Ed or Eddie.

8. Archie

Helena Lopes

Finally, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child into the world in 2019, they chose the name Archie. This news catapulted Archie back to popularity.

With German origins and the meaning of "genuine" and "bold," this boy baby name is a nickname for the even more old-fashioned name "Archibald."
