According to the Golden Globes, ‘Lady Bird’ Magically Directed Itself

To a lot of women, it was no surprise to see Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird take home a Golden Globe for best motion picture — musical or comedy, but what did surprise was how Gerwig herself didn’t receive a nomination for her direction of the film… as Natalie Portman so brilliantly made the audience see when announcing “the all-male nominees” for best director of a motion picture. In fact, it turns out that only five women in the 75 years of the awards show have ever been nominated. And considering that only one woman, Barbra Streisand, has ever won the Best Director award (a whopping 34 years ago, a Babs herself pointed out onstage) maybe it shouldn’t really be called “a surprise” but “an upset” that Gerwig didn’t receive appropriate kudos for her award-winning film. It’s as if Lady Bird directed itself.

Lady Bird received wide critical acclaim even before it hit the award circuit. Before someone decided to spoil its perfect score, Ladybird was cheered for being the single highest rated movie in the history of Rotten Tomatoes. So, we can’t help but ask ourselves, if the film that could win Best Picture, and whose star Saoirse Ronan took the Best Actress prize for a role that Gerwig directed, how is it that Gerwig can be overlooked for her directorial work?

Well, the annual Celluloid Ceiling reported in 2016 that women made up only seven percent of directors working on the top 250 domestic grossing films, which was a drop from the 2015 number of nine percent. And of that top 250, only slightly over one-third of films employed up to one woman onscreen, 52 percent employed two to five women, 11 percent employed six to nine women and two percent employed 10 or more women. Compare that to the 76 percent of films that hired 10 or more men, and it’s pretty easy to see a pattern.

With everything that has come to light over this year about women working in the entertainment industry, it’s easy to see that the environment itself isn’t always safe or supportive of women’s professional advancement. But, even though Gerwig didn’t win her Best Director nomination or award, it’s hard to deny that Lady Bird is a tour de force for women everywhere. A story that was written by a woman, directed by a woman, starred in by women, the film finally gives women a coming-of-age story to love. If only the industry could recognize what a big deal the achievement truly is.

Despite the fact her first role was at the age of 16, 62-year-old Demi Moore just took home her first-ever major acting award at the 2025 Golden Globes for playing Elizabeth Sparkle in The Substance. While the win is a new kind of victory, it's her acceptance speech that truly made the most impact.

Watch Demi Moore's emotional acceptance speech at the 2025 Golden Globes below.

After a producer told her she was a "popcorn actress" in her 30s, Demi Moore "made that mean that [accolades weren't] something that I was allowed to have."

The actress "bought in" to the idea that she could make super successful movies but never get acknowledgement for them. "I believed that, and that corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it," she continues in her speech. "Maybe I was complete, maybe I've done what I was supposed to do. And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance."

In an era where women are constantly fighting the idea that we're too much — too needy, too emotional, too loud — while also battling the narrative that we're not skinny, young, or pretty enough, The Substance showed Demi that "you're not done," she says. The movie follows 50-year-old Elisabeth Sparkle who's fired from her aerobics TV show because of her age...and winds up buying a black market serum to reconnect with a "more perfect" version of herself (played by Margaret Qualley). The movie made waves with its commentary on beauty standards, and the markets that profit off them.

"In those moments when we don't think we're smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough, or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, 'Just know you will never be 'enough,' but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.'"

"And so today," Demi continues, "I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me, and for the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong."

After her win, Demi Moore had another special moment when Entertainment Tonight showed her her family's reaction! "They're a vocal crowd," the actress said of daughter Scout Willis' video showing the family screaming at the top of their lungs. "I don't have my glasses with me, so I haven't been able to read any of my messages," she jokes. "But as soon as I am finished they will be my first FaceTime."

"Everything I do is for them," she continues. "It's for my daughters, for my daughter's daughter. I hope in that same way that that translates out also for all women."

We're sending a major congratulations to Demi Moore on her Golden Globe win! And there was one other big surprise at the awards show: Zendaya showed up rocking a ring on THAT finger. Read all about it!

The countdown to Easter has (somehow) already begun, and aside from cute pastel-colored outfits, lavish Easter dinners (or brunches!), and adorable bunny decorations, my personal favorite part about the holiday is indeed all the Easter candy.

Though grocery store aisles are currently packed with Valentine’s Day treats, it won’t be long before everyone’s gearing up for Easter. Since you obviously want to stuff your friend’s and family’sEaster baskets with the best candies around, we’ve got the scoop on when Easter candy will hit shelves this year!

When does Easter candy come out? Read on for the answer, plus some of my favorite sweets you need to try this year.

When does Easter candy come out?

Kaboompics / PEXELS

Good news for Easter candy fans: you can find a good selection on shelves right now. That’s right – popular Easter candy brands like Peeps and Cadbury notoriously release their seasonal goodies as early as January!

Things really ramp up after Valentine’s Day is all said and done, so you’ll start to see a wider selection post-February 14.

What are the most popular Easter candies?

Amazon

Per a study conducted by DoorDash last year, the “most popular” Easter candies include Reese’s Eggs, Cadbury Creme Eggs, Starburst Jelly Beans, Hershey’s Kisses, Lindt Milk Chocolate Bunnies, and Peeps, among others.

Where can I buy Easter candy?

Polina Zimmerman / PEXELS

You can buy Easter candy at most big grocery stores like Target, Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, and Kroger, plus drug stores like CVS and Walgreens. Trader Joe's and Dollar General also sell some yummy Easter treats every year!

What is the #1selling candy at Easter?

Amazon

Per the same DoorDash study, Reese’s Eggs are the #1 selling candy at Easter – and I must agree! Aside from Cadbury Mini Eggs (the ones coated with a delicious candy shell) and Lindt bunnies (can you tell I'm a chocolate fiend?), Reese’s Eggs are my go-to Easter treat.

When does Easter candy go on sale?

Pavel Danilyuk / PEXELS

The day after Easter is typically when Easter candy goes on sale and you can buy it for a discounted price. This year, Easter falls on April 20, so you can expect Easter candy at your local grocery store to drop in price on April 21!

The magic of Selena Gomez's red carpet look for the 81st Golden Globes is in the details. From the slivers of skin seen through the bodice of her red satin Armani dress to the dramatic downturn of its long, asymmetrical skirt, the Only Murders in the Buildingnominee for Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series clearly came to stun.

Selena's glamorous red and black ensemble surely stood out with pops of stunning silver jewelry, but the one thing I couldn't keep my eyes off of were her shiny black nails! Her right-hand manicurist, Tom Bachik, dished on how exactly he crafted the painfully sultry paint job.

IG @tombachik

“Selena’s custom dress is such an amazing red with black accents, and we felt the nails should play off that," Bachik said. "The black high-gloss shine found in the flowers on the front was the perfect inspiration.”

These edgy black nails are not only the perfect homage to the rest of Selena's look (a bold smokey eye, jet-black floral accents), but a fitting reminder of my awkward middle school days when all I wanted was to fit into the flourishing emo scene. Though Selena's Golden Globes looks is worlds from the ever-so sleazy 2010's, I love that her glossy black nails can be worn a variety of ways for the everyday!

The secret behind Selena's rebellious mani is iconic nail brand, essie. Here's how to get the exact look in just four steps.

Get The Look: Selena Gomez's Golden Globes Black Nails

1. Prep the nails.

For Selena's black nails, Bachik began with a "meticulous manicure" using the Tweezerman & Tom Bachik Nail Care Travel Set ($29). Think your standard trimming, filing, clipping, and cuticle care – this step will set your nail beds up for some generously glossy coats!

2. Paint on the black.

Bachik painted two solid coats of Essie 'Licorice' ($8) for the base of Selena's black nails. This shade has the most perfect payoff to ensure your dark-as-night mani looks sleek AF.

3. Top it all off.

Bachik swears by Essie Gel Setter Top Coat ($11) for a seamless finish to any mani.

4. Don't skip post-mani nail care.

The Essie On A Roll Apricot Nail & Cuticle Oil does a great job at rehydrating the nails and surrounding skin. Bachik finished off Selena's 'patent leather' manicure with the roll-on applicator.

Do you feel like you've mastered your Sunday to-do list and want to try your hand at living your best life, for real? Good because we're on the same page — and we've been thinking about what that looks like. Is it uninterrupted moments where you get to read historical fiction or swatch the best foundations for your complexion? What about the bliss you feel when munching on a tasty snack from Trader Joe's?

While it's easy to share our opinions, we thought it'd be more rewarding to give you science-backed tips for what'll make you feel satisfied each day. Ready for all the details?

Keep scrolling for all the ways you can become a more satisfied person everyday!

How many people are satisfied with life?

Kelly Mcglone

We have bleak news to share: only 44% of people in the U.S. are happy with their lives (via Gallup). That's less than half of the people we may pass during our Starbucks and T.J. Maxx runs! What gives? According to the same study, everything from economic statuses to religion seem to play a factor in daily satisfaction.

If you ask us, it doesn't take rocket science to know people who are able to afford their bills may not be as stressed as someone who has to choose between putting gas in their car or getting something to eat. Still, there have to be some easy ways to be satisfied in your day-to-day life, right?

Here are some simple tips you can try ASAP!

Scarlette Alexandra De Gregorio

1. Focus on reducing your stress

We often talk about the impact stress and burnout can have on us, but that doesn't mean everyone is taking steps to eliminate what causes them. Another Gallup study revealed 49% of people are experiencing raised cortisol levels which is much higher than it's been in prior years. You may be thinking that your job or relationship are the sources of your stress, but we'll never flat out tell you to give up on them.

Our suggestions are to:

  1. Take stock of how you feel about your job, relationship, finances, etc.,
  2. Ask yourself what you need to thrive in different areas of your life.
  3. See how you can create boundaries that lessen the chance you'll over-extend yourself in life.

2. Breakup with "doom scrolling"

We saw you try to skip over this section as soon as you saw "doom scrolling," but we need you to pay attention. It's not doing you any good and this is coming from people who are chronically online for a living. A Media Consumption Trend Report shows that the average person spends at least 6 hours everyday looking at "some type of media." The most popular platforms are Facebook and YouTube which doesn't surprise us!

Based on other findings in the study, there's a huge indicator that do this contributes to "poorer" mental health and you don't need that! We know you want to be as informed as possible, but don't let FOMO keep you chained to negative posts and articles all day.

Grace McCuistion

3. Look at the bright side of things

Does life feel bright right now? Probably not, but that doesn't mean you deserve to live in a cycle of stress, anxiety, and depression. We're not shy about our own mental health struggles, but we're also unafraid to talk about how adopting a gratitude practice helps us get through our days.

We're not saying this will magically eliminate bad moments, but it will ground you when you start asking yourself "what if" questions.

Cora Pursley

4. Understand you're not meant to be a one-person island

We think individualism is beautiful, but not at the expense of shutting everyone out because you think you can do everything by yourself. None of us are meant to be alone 24/7, but there's been a growing loneliness epidemic that's swept through the U.S.

In 2023, a study by U.S Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy pointed out that there was a 5 hour decrease in household family interactions along with spending less time with friends per month. It was also discovered that the less time we spend with others impacted our health worse than "smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day."

If you're thinking, "I just can't trust anyone," we want you to know we understand you've been hurt by people you were once vulnerable with. But, it's impossible to do everything in life by yourself even if you think you've been doing a great job so far. Not only does your health depend on opening your heart to others again, so does you overall satisfaction with life!

The first looks at Euphoria season 3 is here, and as Taylor Swift once said, "it's been a long time coming." After literal years of delays (and different members of the production blaming each other for those aforementioned delays), the first look at Zendaya's return as Rue Bennet is finally here. And it doesn't disappoint.

Here's your first look at Zendaya as Rue in Euphoria season 3.

Zendaya reveals her "number one duty" with 'Euphoria' season 3.

HBO/Max

Zendaya's return as Rue is one that Euphoria fans have been waiting for — especially after she won the Emmy for her performance in both 2020 and 2022 (and still holds the record for the youngest two-time winner). Rue's journey has been everything but easy, and the moody lighting overall, as well as Rue's posture and the fact her face is shrouded in shadow, emphasize that even further.

"I’m excited to see what everyone has been working on, and what the future looks like for Euphoria," Zendaya told Vanity Fair in November 2024. "My most important thing is to do justice by the people who love and care about Rue, and make sure that she’s looked after as a character. I think that’s my number one duty."

HBO told Deadlinein a statement that “HBO and [writer and creator] Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” while actor Colman Domingo told GQ that Sam is "very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That's what he wants to figure out with season three.”

That definitely sounds like we're in for a wild season 3.

And Zendaya's not the only cast member returning. Sydney Sweeney shared in an interview with Who What Wear that "it’s going to be very, very wild.”

Despite the time gap between season 2, which premiered in 2022, and season 3, which won't premiere until late 2025 or early 2026, Sydney says she “actually [likes] it," because a gap means "there’s so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character."

And Hunter Schafer believes a "beautiful" season 3 is possible.

In addition to story delays, fans also called for the series' cancellation after the passings of co-star Angus Cloud and screenwriter Kevin Turen. Hunter Schafer (who plays Jules) told Call Her Daddy's Alex Cooper that there was a sense of "anticipation" surrounding a third season, especially when whether they'd continue was up in the air.

"I think everyone feels a certain sense of anticipation for, like, if we are supposed to do a season 3," Hunter says between tears. "Obviously, I'm still coming to qualms with what's happened, and losing people that we really loved and were a part of this family and everything...I think there's a world in which we can channel that into making it a beautiful season 3."

Alongside Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, and Sydney Sweeney, we can expect to see Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Austin Abrams return for Euphoria season 3.

Stay tuned for the latest Euphoria season 3 news — and rumors that Zendaya Could Star In Cleopatra Movie From Dune Director Denis Villeneuve.
