Everything The Cast Of 'And Just Like That' Said So Far About Having Kim Cattrall Back — Including Kim

Cynthia Nixon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis at the Point Foundation

Sex and the City is known for its steamy romances, tight-knit friendships, and iconic fashion (thanks to Patricia Field) — but the drama on set was equally talked about. For fans of the series, learning that tension was brewing when cameras weren't rolling felt like a shock to the system. Despite the undeniable chemistry the ladies brought to the screen, former cast member Kim Cattrall didn't share much off-screen camaraderie with her co-stars, previously acknowledging that she's "never been friends" with them.

Just when fans were sure she'd never appear on And Just Like That, Kim Cattrall decided to return as Samantha Jones for season 2. And Kim's castmates? They have plenty to say.

In an interview with People, Cynthia Nixon expressed her happiness about the cast coming together to create another great season. She said, "We all love each other, we love our show, we wanted to do more of it." She didn't specifically name Kim Cattrall as the reason everyone was walking on "eggshells" in prior years, but she did imply that made things difficult during filming.

Although Kim is set to reprise her role in the season 2 finale, she didn't interact with her former co-stars IRL. When asked about the status of their relationship, Cynthia chose not to offer any comments. It seems the most important thing to the cast of And Just Like That is enjoying the process of filming and bringing viewers along their characters' journeys — and the viewers love Samantha.

However, Cynthia did express regret that Kim's cameo was leaked. She told The Wrap, "It was going to be such a wonderful surprise that, as people were watching an episode, 'Oh my god! There's Samantha!' You know?" Also, despite prior reports stating no one was aware of Kim's role reprisal, a discussion was held that led to what fans will eventually see.

Sarah Jessica Parker Is "Excited" About Kim's Cameo

Ever the optimistic, SJP shared her excitement about Kim's upcoming came with Entertainment Tonight. She said, "I thought it was a really good idea and I was thrilled that, you know, we could make it happen and that it worked for her..." If fans remember, Samantha and Carrie have been exchanging texts so a cameo could offer a bit of reassurance. SJP said, "We just thought it was a really nice idea to put a face to the text, really in large part to celebrate the 25 years of [Sex and the City]."

Actually, it's a brilliant idea.

Kristin Davis Doesn't Feel As Optimistic

Photograph by Craig Blakenhorn/Max

While Cynthia and SJP are more open to Kim's cameo, Kristin Davis has other thoughts. She briefly highlighted the differences between the cast's characters and IRL counterparts, but ultimately feels that the friends aren't meant to be exactly like they are on TV. But, Kristin also told Daily Mail, "I don't know that we're even trying for closure at this point, or resolution. I think we just thought you know, here is, you know, our character who's been gone. And we know people miss her and Carrie misses her..."

That camaraderie, even if it's just acting, is hard to come by. So, yes, fans have missed the interaction between Samantha, Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte. We're personally here for this! As much as everyone would love to see an onscreen reunion, we'll settle for a cameo — just hearing Cattrall's voice is enough to fill the void of not seeing her at all last season. And ultimately? We're happy to hear the ladies of this beloved cast are at peace with the place they're all in.

Kim agreed to come back under one condition

Kim appeared on The View yesterday to chat with the hosts about her new show Glamorous and, of course, her cameo in And Just Like That. Of Samantha's brief appearance, she said, "It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, what can we do? and I went, ‘Hmm. Let me get creative.'"

One of the things she wanted was to have celebrated stylist Patricia Field come back to style her. Carrie is known for her legendary style but Samantha's is also memorable, so this doesn't feel like a demand but more of an understanding.

However, according to information an insider shared with Page Six, Kim was adamant about something. "Kim had two stipulations - one, that she would not act with any of the other girls, and two, she did not want to see [showrunner] Michael Patrick King," said the insider.

This post has been updated with new information.

And just like that, Kim Cattrall revealed whether she'll return to the Max sequel series. The actress starred as Samantha Jones in Sex and The City from 1998-2004, and revived the role in two post-finale movies. While she made an appearance in And Just Like That... season 2, fans have been hoping we'll see her again in season 3, which will stream on Max in 2025.

When a fan shared an article from Elle claiming Samantha Jones (and Kim Cattrall) would return for And Just Like That... season 3, Kim responded to the post saying "Aw that's so kind but I'm not 💋." With the straightforward delivery (and the kiss emoji), this tweet is exactly the kind of thing Samantha herself would say — and it didn't take long for fans to respond.

"Kim, you were the whole reason I watched SATC to begin with," one user tweets. "Love your work! Miss you!"

"Our QUEEEEEEEEN!!!!" another user says.

Kim Cattrall explained her reasons for not joining And Just Like That... in 2022, revealing she was never asked to join the reboot after expressing her disinterest in a potential third movie. (The third movie in question featured Samantha receiving unwanted photos from Miranda's 14-year-old son.) "It’s heartbreaking," she tells Variety, adding it's an "understatement" to say the third movie didn't allow Samantha to progress.

"Can you imagine going back to a job you did 25 years ago?" she continues. And with the story's added complexity and struggles, the job only got more complicated. "When the series ended, I thought that’s smart. We’re not repeating ourselves. And then the movie to end all the loose ends. And then there’s another movie. And then there’s another movie?"

"It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough,” she says. “I also didn’t want to compromise what [Sex and the City] was to me. The way forward seemed clear.”

Drama lovers are living large thanks to The Summer I Turned Pretty, Sweet Magnolias, and now My Life With The Walter Boys season 2! The show (which is basically Friday Night Lights meets Dawson's Creek) spent some time at the number one spot on Netflix’s Global English Top 10 TV list (and joined the list in 88 other countries). Netflix renewed it for a sophomore season in December 2023, and the great news is that season 2 just finished filming!

Here's everything you need to know about My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 — and don't forget to watch our interview with the cast, too.

Is there going to be My Life With the Walter Boys season 2?

Netflix

Yes, there will be a My Life With the Walter Boys season 2! Netflix renewed the new TV show in December of 2023. The second season started filming in Calgary, Canada on August 14, 2024. Showrunner Melanie Halsall is returning for season 2, as is executive producer Ed Glauser. Becky Hartman Edwards will also serve as an EP.

While there's no book for My Life With the Walter Boys season 2, author Ali Novak revealed her upcoming sequel book won't influence the show, saying “none of the content that I am currently writing will be in the second season. They’ve just taken different directions. Still all the same characters that we love.”

The season recently wrapped in November 2024, and the cast spilled on their post-shoot plans. “We have our apartments for a little bit afterwards, so we’re definitely going to stick around,” star Asbhy Gentry tells TUDUM. The cast also talked about visiting Calgary Zoo, renting bikes, and heading to Banff (in Alberta, Canada), but was distraught when they learned their favorite dessert place had closed its doors. Thankfully, a new place called Cloud Naan came to the rescue. “It’s like Cloud Nine, but with naan,” Ashby says. Now I'm craving naan!

When is the My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 release date?

Netflix

We don't have an official release date for My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 yet, but we know it's coming in 2025. Considering season 1, which started streaming in December of 2023, premiered a little over a year after filming ended, it's safe to assume we'll get another December release.

“Season 2 is bigger and better,” creator Melanie Halsall tells TUDUM. “We’ve got massive set pieces in each episode, and the stories are more intricate. We found our feet with our characters, [and] the actors really understand their characters now. When I was coming back, I was excited to start shooting again because I knew we had great stories to tell.”

Who's in the My Life With the Walter Boys season 2 cast?

Netflix

Nikki Rodriguez, Noah LaLonde, and Ashby Gentry return as Jackie, Cole, and Alex respectively. We'll see other cast members like Marc Blucas, Johnny Link, Corey Fogelmanis, Connor Stanhope, Dean Petriw, Alix West Lefler, Lennix James, and Sarah Rafferty! Natalie Sharp, Carson MacCormac, Janet Kidder, Riele Downs, and Jake Manley are joining the cast.

What has the cast said about their time on the show?

Netflix

The My Life With the Walter Boys cast has loved their time on the show! When the first season dropped, Nikki Rodriguez posted a selfie with Noah LaLonde and Ashby Gentry with the caption "Cheers to the best time of my life."

"NUMBER ONE IN THE WORLD," Ashby said in his own Instagram post when the show hit the streaming platform's top spot. "GRATEFUL IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT."

During our own interview with the main trio, they talked about how quickly the bonded on set. "We got deep," Noah told me over Zoom.

"Nothing says bonding like goofing off," Ashby said. "I think it's easy to become a family when you include a little bit of that."

"There's so many topics that the show covers," Nikki added. "Love, loss, grief, family, and chosen family, and I feel like those are all topics we've all experienced and can connect to."

Who does Jackie end up with in My Life with the Walter Brothers in the books?

Netflix

In the My Life With the Walter Boys books, Alex and Jackie agree to just be friends after she confesses her feelings to Cole, who then confesses his own feelings in the pouring rain (dreamy!!). In the final episode of the TV show, Jackie confronts Cole after he glued her sister's broken teapot back together, and the two end up kissing. But then Cole finds Jackie has run back to New York City, leaving nothing but an "I'm sorry" note behind.

While Sex and the City was a highly entertaining show, it was more so a statement on modern dating and city living than anything else. Carrie describes herself as a "sexual anthropologist" in episode 1, and while "newspaper columnist" or "writer" would have been a more succinct description, her choice of words shed light on the intricate world of NYC dating that we were about to see.

If there's one overarching theme of Sex and the City, it's that the dating scene is brutal — especially in New York, and especially as a woman. Along the way, Carrie and her friends make countless mistakes, but the important part is that they pick themselves up and keep going. Throughout the six seasons, each woman falls in and out of love, and eventually finds their person.

Luckily, hindsight is 20/20 — and Sex and the City is now on Netflix — so we can relive the highs and lows of '90s dating from the comfort of our homes. Keep reading for the best things I've learned about dating and finding love from Sex and the City.

1. Just because he’s good on paper, he still might not be right for you!

HBO

The writers played with this idea a few times throughout the series: a guy who seems perfect (AKA, good on paper) but isn’t quite the right fit, for some reason or another.

First there was Sean, the "marrying" guy, who was everything that every woman could theoretically want. Carrie passed and so did Charlotte, who was very eager to get married herself. They both had a gut feeling that he wasn't the right one.

Next came Dr. Bradley Meego, who was actually described as the "good on paper" guy and succinctly dismissed by Samantha as, “good on paper, bad in bed.” But he didn't stick around long enough for Carrie to get that far.

The gist here is, remember to judge the person as a whole, not according to an arbitrary laundry list of the qualities and accomplishments your "dream" partner should have.

2. The right person will love you for your quirks, not in spite of them.

Craig Blankenhorn/Max

During my formative years, I thought Aidan was an absolute catch. Cute, kind, and wants to marry her? I’d ask myself what more could Carrie want? But after a few [dozen] more rewatches, plus some much-needed life experience, I realized that there was a lot of truth to the The Way We Were homage in season three.

Carrie is c-c-c-curly, and pretty c-c-c-complicated as well. And as a fellow complicated girlie, I have my fair share of quirks, and being with a guy who simply tolerates them just isn’t it. While Aiden did love Carrie, he always seemed eager to change her into his ideal outdoorsy, minimalistic, pie-baking, greasy-chicken eating woman. Although there’s nothing wrong with being that girl, it just wasn’t Carrie — and it's wild that her serious boyfriend-turned-fiancé somehow failed to understand her on such a basic level. She needed to be with someone who appreciated her love of shoes, superior style, and zest for NYC nightlife — rather than just tolerating it as a necessary evil.

3. Mr. Right may not be Mr. Right Now.

HBO

In the OG series, Carrie and Aidan make a few go’s at their relationship. It doesn’t work out for a many reasons — namely, Carrie’s cheating, Aidan’s jealousy, and a fundamental difference in values.

But in And Just Like That, they get another chance, and it looks like the third time might be the charm. We change a lot as we get older, and it looks like Carrie and Aidan’s life experiences helped them each grow into more understanding and flexible people than they were decades prior. While he wasn’t endgame back then, Aidan 2.0 has definite OTP potential.

4. Dating can be fun if you let it, so don’t take it too seriously.

HBO

Carrie is someone who is looking for love, real love — as the infamous quote goes — which means she’s not going to settle on someone just for the plot. Until she finds that person, Carrie is enjoying dating, going out, meeting new people, and figuring out what she wants.

One of my favorite tidbits about SATC is that at one point they started running out of male actors to cast, because the girls went through them so quickly, which is a pretty awesome gender switch on the status quo of the 90s.

Dating in NYC often catches a bad rap, but I’ve always thought Carrie made it look like so much fun! And sure enough, when I was single in the city, I took the Carrie approach: Meet new people, figure out what you’re looking for, “try on” different options to see how they fit, and don’t take any of it too seriously (until, of course, there’s someone worth taking seriously).

By taking the Carrie Bradshaw approach (AKA having fun with it and not taking it too seriously), I was able to remove the stress, emerge unscathed, and ultimately meet my husband.

5. Keep an open mind when it comes to love.

HBO

When we first meet the girls in season one, we quickly start to understand their interests, viewpoints, hopes, and dreams. Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha are all highly different from each other, with their own taste in men — and a long list of relationship deal breakers. Other than Carrie, each of her friends has a very specific idea of the type of relationship they want to end up in: for Charlotte, a preppy finance guy; for Miranda, an equally successful partner who she can have an intellectual conversation with; and for Samantha, a carousel of attractive suitors rather than any one man in particular.

As the series progresses, each of our ladies goes on dozens of dates, with varying degrees of success. Samantha is thrilled with the non-monogamous lifestyle, until she meets Smith, a struggling actor who thinks she’s the greatest woman in the world. Miranda encounters a depressing amount of sexism and ultimately finds love with Steve, a blue collar bloke from Queens, who’s perfectly content being a bartender. He treats her well and makes her happy (in this case, movies and spinoff are not canon!), which is enough.

Charlotte takes it a step further and marries her supposedly perfect match. She finds that Trey’s idyllic world, which she so longed to be a part of, isn’t enough to fulfill her if she’s not with the right person. Charlotte then falls for Harry, her divorce lawyer, a character so unpreppy that it’s actually comical. He’s the last person Charlotte ever imagined herself with, but she ends up making her own set of sacrifices in order for their relationship to work out.

While it’s important to have standards (including your own list of hard no’s), it’s even more crucial to avoid boxing yourself out of the love of your life, or what could otherwise be a happy & healthy relationship.

6. Healthy competition is nice, but not when it’s toxic.

HBO

In the first half of season six, Carrie’s book publicist introduces her to Berger, a fellow author who’s charmingly self-deprecating and relatively attractive, and they quickly hit it off. At first, it seems like a perfect fit, but their flirty competition turns toxic when Berger’s second book option is dropped while Carrie’s star continues to rise. It’s normal for careers to go through ebbs and flows, but healthy adults will be rooting for their partner no matter what — even if their own success is temporarily eclipsed.

7. Don’t lose yourself in a relationship.

HBO

Later in season six, Carrie is head over heels in love with Aleksandr (or, at least trying to convince herself that she is). She’s so focused on fitting into his glamorous life that she gives up on everything that’s important to her: NYC, which she leaves for Paris; her column, which was a huge part of her life; and her friends, who were her chosen family. Eventually, Carrie comes to her senses, and I’m glad she did this on her own (before seeing Mr. Big).

8. If he hits you, get TF out.

HBO

In the series finale, Carrie is unhappily living in Paris with Aleksandr. She’s given up so much of herself for her relationship, and now feels empty and alone, but the final straw is when Aleksandr slaps her. It was the slap heard ‘round the world, and while many dismissed it as a ‘mistake’ or ‘not a big deal,’ I’m so happy that Carrie saw through this and got out of that toxic mess. There’s no way it would have been the last time, and if she stayed, it almost certainly would have gotten worse.

Break out your basketball jerseys because the Tree Hill Ravens are coming back! Multiple sources have toldVariety that Netflix will develop a sequel series to the beloved CW drama, which ran from 2003-2012. While the series hasn't officially been greenlit yet, multiple series stars have admitted they'd love to have a One Tree Hill reunion and make another installment of the show.

"I just can't see a world where something won't happen," Chad Michael Murray told E! News. "Something will happen. Whether we get everybody together and do a live reading of the show, or we create a new fictional future episode, I don't know what it will be."

"We’re all on board, we’re all friends, it would be the most fun show anybody has ever been on," Barbara Alyn Woods says in an Entertainment Tonight interview.

Here's everything to know about the One Tree Hillsequel series — including the stars rumored to return!

Who's returning to the One Tree Hill sequel?

Noam Galai/Getty Images for Netflix

One Tree Hill Sequel Cast

According to Variety, Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton would return as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, respectively. Daneel Ackles would also return — and all three would serve as executive producers on the TV show alongside Warner Bros. Television, who was behind the original show.

When asked if he would return as Lucas Scott, Chad Michael Murray simply responded with “No clue." Considering previous reports suggested he had "no plans to return," this is promising news to me! He then added he hopes the sequel series “comes together for the fans.”

“I mean, this fandom that has grown, I mean, literally, I was just in Halifax a week ago and, sure enough, I’m running into 11, 12, 13-year-old kids who are in love with Tree Hill,” he continues. “They’re seeing it on Hulu and they’re going, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ It’s stood the test of time and I think to have some new stories, whatever iteration of the show that’s created, I want it for the fans.”

Will One Tree Hill have a season 10?

Warner Bros. Television

One Tree Hill Sequel Plot

One Tree Hill doesn't have a season 10, and it's unclear what kind of sequel this new One Tree Hill series would be. But it looks like star Hilarie Burton is confident the new series would be told through the female experience. "What has been really cool for [the entire cast and crew], they're all really proud of the work that we did back then too," she told Brit + Co in September. And so to see the public support this little show we made 20 years later, that's so special and it's so rare."

“Being able to work with a team of women and look at these stories [and] these characters through a female lens is something that — whether I was doing a reboot or a brand-new show or a different movie at this phase in my life, female teamwork is something that is so vital to me,” she adds in an interview with People. “It is the core of anything I've done that's successful...So I'm excited to be able to team up with people that I look up to, people that I love dearly.”

After the One Tree Hill finale featured all of our favorite characters' kids, I've always wanted to see a One Tree Hill next generation series that brings the kids into high school, which is something other fans have been wanting too!

One viral TikTok imagines an intro for a fictional Next Gen series starring Dylan O'Brien, Candice King, and Vanessa Marano. "Could you imagine this as a reboot with the kids though," one comment reads. "We can only dream."

Warner Bros. Television

And good news for OTH fans! Jana Kramer, who played Alex during the later seasons of the show, teased she thinks Peyton and Brooke "are coming back as moms."

"I had spoken to Hilarie about it, about Alex making an appearance when I knew about it," she tells People. "We had discussed it before the news broke...I think their intention is to bring back people that make sense. And Hilarie was like, 'I never got to meet Alex, so it'd be fun to have us meet,' and I'm like, 'I would love that. Sign me up.' So, we'll see. TBD."

Brooke having to deal with her kids' TikToks? Peyton thinking about the future of art and AI? Mouth leading the Tree Hill podcast empire? There is so much to dive into here. But all in all, One Tree Hill is one TV show that gives me so much hope, no matter how many times I watch it. And I know that bringing back our favorite found family is the perfect way to bring some of that hope right back into today's TV.

One Tree Hill also starred Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Austin Nichols, Bethany Joy Lenz, Paul Johansson, Barbara Alyn Woods, Lee Norris, and Antwon Tanner. Check back here for the latest updates on the One Tree Hill reboot cast!
