As much as we love swapping tips and tricks to solve our biggest fashion and beauty dilemmas, there are some questions we may not feel comfortable asking our friends about, let alone Google without going incognito. Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. In this series, we’re tackling those embarrassing queries by turning to experts in the field to get you the answers you need — minus any awkward feelings.

Now that we’ve properly debunked exactly how to combat camel toe, it’s time to turn our attention ’round back to the not-so-glamorous issue of the wedgie or as we’re calling it — hungry butt. Just like the camel toe, this very common fashion fail has happened to everyone. Tall or short, flat caked or bootylicious, the wedgie doesn’t discriminate against any size, shape, or derrière. So, before we gave up flowy silk skirts, polyester stretch pants, and mom jeans altogether, we decided to do some digging to find out exactly which fabrics cause wedging and how exactly to avoid having your a** eat your clothes.

What causes clothing to wedge?

We’ve all experienced the discomfort of having to discretely pick a wedgie in public. And whether it happens post-Vinyasa or pre-dinner party, hungry butt can be embarrassing and annoying. So why do some bottoms fail while others triumph? The not-so-simple answer is equal parts fabric and fit. Stretched out undies, silky garments, and low-quality high rise denim can all be the culprits of this often uncomfortable occurrence.

How do I avoid hungry butt?

There are a few things you can do to steer your booty clear. When wearing skirts and dresses, avoid unlined styles. “Lined garments help avoid this embarrassing situation because the lining creates a buffer between the thin fabric and your skin,” says Maggie Wu, founder of Maggie Wu Studio. “You can also wear tights and leggings which not only keep you warm but also help avoid this situation.”

Additionally, be sure to throw out old, stretched undies, and replenish your supply frequently. “Choose pairs that have more coverage and that won’t slide around as much (such as those made primarily with cotton fabric content), or try out thongs to avoid the problem altogether,” says Karrie Meiklereid, creative director for The Style Room, Zappos Fashion Experience. “Always make sure the underwear fits snugly, but not too tight to cause lines.”

WAIT, ARE WEDGIES TRENDY?

Yes! Ultra high-waisted jeans and pleated, mom-style pants have certainly made the case for a very on-trend — and very hungry — butt. Designers, stylists, and fashion girls the world over agree that a good wedgie can be really flattering. “I encourage each and every butt to don a vintage pair of Levi’s 501, the original wedgie jean,” says San Francisco Bay Area-based stylist Amy Soderlind. “The older construction of these jeans alongside the fabric give every bum the perfect hug and lift, and the fabric between each cheek is welcomed.”

If you’ve already embraced this look or are planning to start, there are actually a few tricks to achieving the comfiest wedge possible. Avoid cheaply made clothing, opt for credible denim designers, and find a good tailor. “I’ve brought heaps of pants I’ve found at flea markets to the tailor to fit just right,” says Soderlind. “It’s amazing what they can do.”

Glass mosaics, popular in the 2000s and 2010s, tend to lean toward a transitional aesthetic, which is the opposite of an organic, minimalist, or vintage-inspired design kitchen are craving now. The grout lines are bit difficult to clean too between all the tiny tiles. Zellige tile or a slab of marble are a more sophisticated look for today's kitchens.

6. Black & White

The stark contrast between black and white can come across as harsh and overly dramatic, a look that peaked in the 2010s. The farmhouse sign doesn't help warm it up either. Soften the look with earthy, natural tones.

Subway tile is classic, so there’s no need to rip it out if it still brings you joy. However, the white subway tile paired with dark grout has overstayed its welcome. We have a love/hate relationship with barrel jeans because some of them can make us look frumpy. That's not a word we like to use often so that should be a hint at how complicated this fashion trend is for us. Still, we saw an increased interest in this and can't be mad at how great some people styled it.

Our favorite outfits included a plain button-up top, balloon jeans, flats, and a cute coat to accessorize it.

2. Oxford Loafers

Wearing loafers is never a cause for burning down the fashion industry, but we didn't think the clunky versions would be a shoe of choice for anyone. P.S. Can you picture the plaid dress or skirt with thick white stockings stuffed into black penny loafers? Or, is that just us?

We can't say that we gave into the hype, but we're glad people enjoyed playing around with gaudy pieces last year. For all we know, someone will still love wearing this trend in 2025.

5. Sequins Everywhere

We don't think this trend went out of style, but we saw how many people rushed to wear sequins during the holidays. We even gave in to it ourselves and we're kind of proud of it. However, we remember how annoying it was when some of our sequins popped off and rolled away into some unknown abyss.

Oh No! Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson Announce "Painful" Split After 15 Years Together.

Jessica Simpson and her husband Eric Johnson have decided to go their separate ways. After 10 years of marriage, Jessica revealed on January 13 that they've been "navigating" a "painful situation" that arose in their relationship, three months after sources told TMZ the singer reached out to a divorce attorney. But despite the shift in their relationship status, there's one thing Jessica and Eric are focusing on.

Jessica Simpson explained her decision to split from husband, former NFL tight end Eric Johnson, with whom she shares three children: 12-year-old Maxwell Drew, 11-year-old Ace Knute, and 5-year-old Birdie Mae.

"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," Jessica told People. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."

The popstar celebrated her kids' return to school in September with a super sweet Instagram post. "Maxwell, Ace and Birdie y’all make your Mom beam with smiles and grace !" she says. "Keep on showin’ up for yourselves with each step of the way through this new school year! I’m so very proud of y’all for individually shining your light so that in return others feel the glow."

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson met in 2010 through a mutual friend, and ended up getting engaged six months after they started dating. They were married in July of 2014, where Maxwell and Ace were the flower girl and ring bearer.

The "I Wanna Love You Forever" singer celebrated their 10th anniversary with an Instagram post in May 2020, saying, "I fell head over slippers in love with this perfect man 10 YEARS ago today! By chance he knocked on my dreamy cottage door (sigh), I let him in and never let him leave. He is mine, I am his…forever."

And the couple's decision to announce their separation comes after Jessica posted about "putting up with everything I did not deserve" and about how "life is short."

"SMILE while you still have teeth," she jokes.
