12 Home Decor Ideas I'm Stealing From This Gorgeous Austin, TX Remodel

austin home remodel

When a young family approached Alice Arterberry of Austin-based design firm Arterberry Cooke and Danny Spears of Captex Construction, they were looking to transform a five bed, five bath home in Austin into their dream home. And they were clear about three things: it needed to feel cozy, warm, and lived-in.

“We wanted the design to reflect a timeless and classic look," says Alice, "that would stand the test of time and wouldn't feel outdated quickly, while still feeling modern and fresh."

The result? A home that “exudes sophistication and elegance, while being infused with that character and charm found throughout homes in Austin," she adds.

Here are 12 home decor ideas that I’m bookmarking from this design for future reference!

Arched Hallways

"The home is quintessential Austin with its classic yet contemporary feel," says Alice. Bucking trends, the design team decided to use a neutral palette throughout the main level and incorporated lots of natural wood beams that draw the eye upward. I love the arched hallway, and woven art piece, which gives the neutral aesthetic a little flair.

Oversized Windows

Oversized windows bring the outdoors in and the black steel frame add architectural interest inside. I also adore this stone coffee table as a central piece for gathering around. Here's a similar look: West Elm Monti Coffee Table.

Cozy Dining Room

Imagine gabbing around the dining table all evening because your guests are so comfortable. These cushiony dining chairs are divine. For a similar look, try the Kala Upholstered Armchair.

Moody Bar Area

This moody bar area with dark walls and gold accents beautifully blends Southern charm with unexpected layers and textures, notes Alice. The dramatic dark walls are painted inBenjamin Moore Wrought Iron. And the modern club chairs make you just want to sit back and relax.

Natural Wood Cabinets

This kitchen feels elevated and bright without feeling overly trendy the perfect clean slate for a growing family. It can be easily personalized with plants, cookbooks, and pottery.

Wall-to-Wall Organization

This wall unit is perfect for families with small children with hidden storage, matching baskets, and frames of family photos. Love the reading wall lights above too. No kids? This is also great for collections like albums, books, and office supplies.

Wallpapered Ceiling

Alice chose Anthropologie's Grow House Grow Fauna Fantasia Wallpaper to add to the ceiling in the kids’ bedroom, and it's so sweet for kids to admire while falling asleep!

Unique Lighting

Adding a statement pendant to the bathroom is a fun way to add unique decor without taking up limited space. This Magnolia Pendant is from Anthropologie but sold out. Try the Magnolia Chandelier for a similar look.

Fireplace In The Bedroom

This master bedroom is design GOALS. Currently dreaming of waking up on a Saturday morning with a roaring fireplace while binging on my favorite decor shows. The natural wood beams over the bed elevate the room's design too.

Even Better: Fireplace in the Bathroom

To achieve a cozy, warm, and lived-in feel, Alice added in lots of fireplaces throughout the home, including one in the primary bath, something she says is rare for Central Texas. I'm bookmarking this idea with the life goal to own a bathroom fireplace someday (a girl can dream).

Outdoor Kitchen And Dining

The Austin home also features an incredible outdoor space that is perfect for entertaining. The full outdoor kitchen and outdoor dining table with mitered waterfall edges sit adjacent to an expansive pool and spa. While my budget may not ever accommodate all of the above (median home prices in California, where I live, are more than triple that of Austin!). Still, I can mimic the ideas of an inviting outdoor kitchen space where guests can lounge and gab and even watch TV outdoors.

TV can be the ultimate escape — especially when it features an insane plotline you'd likely never find yourself in IRL. That's the case for Netflix's new dark comedy Sirens, a limited series that dives into the world of socialites, scandal, and power struggles. And the best part is that it all takes place on a HUGE beach property. It's basically Gossip Girl meets The O.C. meets The White Lotus, which totally promises to give us the unhinged drama TV has been missing. Here's everything you need to know about the new TV show— andWhere To Stream The Best New TV Shows Of 2024 (So Far).

The series is based on Maid showrunner Molly Smith Metzler’s play Elemeno Pea.

The all-white kitchen has become a dated decor trend as more earthy kitchens with a little more soul are falling in favor. In designing award-winning authentic Italian restaurant Nardó in West Hollywood, celeb designer Francesca Grace created a stunning space that she describes as a love letter to Italy, her family, and her passion for design. And it totally shows.

Francesca used a mix of earthy and warm tones, velvets, fringe and stripes to create a space that feels less like a typical restaurant and more like you’re having dinner at your chic friend's cozy home, making it the perfect inspiration for your at-home kitchen and dining areas.

Here are 10 home decor ideas we’re stealing from this lovely and inviting LA hotspot.

Banquette Seating

Banquette seating is just cozier, and the perfect perch for enjoying a wonderful meal with friends. Francesca uses banquette seating in all areas inside the restaurant, from this gorgeous front room to the Old Chapel-inspired room with extra-tall ceilings to the upstairs, which is inspired by a casual Italian cafe.

Fringe

Image courtesy of Francesca Grace/Dusty Kessler

I'm just smitten with her use of fringe throughout the space. From these charming chandeliers to the bottom of the banquette seating to the outdoor umbrellas, fringe adds a touch of bohemian and vintage vibe to a glamorous space.

Vienna Chairs

I've always loved the look of the classic bentwood chair originally designed by German-Austrian cabinet maker Michael Thonet to represent a practical "consumer" chair. Its often used in European restaurants and such a great classic choice here!

Vintage Stripes

The upstairs balcony dining area is reminiscent of the bustling Italian cafés that Francesca has spent so much time in throughout her life and travels. The bold red stripes are so fun for a festive space to celebrate or just catch up friends. The ruffled floral sconce also hints to the European coquette trend, where romance reigns.

Hand-drawn Mural

Each space in the restaurant instantly transports you into a different region in Italy. Here's what Francesca calls the Chapel room, where her sister Dede painted a Rome-inspired mural. Francesca talks more about her inspiration behind this design in this Reel.

Classic Prints + Patterns

Francesca used eclectic prints and infused the space with her signature maximalist style to create a vibe that is intimate and cozy. The checkerboard tile around the wood-fired oven, paired with the toile upholstery of the bar stools and banquette in the front room, is such a refreshing departure from the modern, minimal aesthetic that has dominated kitchen decor over the last decade.

A Pop of Pink

I'm in love with this pink patio outside. It's the perfect compliment to the earthy, eclectic mood indoors. The checkered pattern on the seating echos the checkerboard tile inside too. Olive trees are ideal for Italian decor in LA climate!

The fringe on the outdoor umbrellas are a nice touch too. I can't decide if I want dine al fresco or indoors, both are a feast for the eyes!

Dried Flowers

Image courtesy of Francesca Grace/Dusty Kessler

This dried flower installation is chef's kiss! Incorporating an earthy element like this natural wall hanging brings the outdoors in and feels like a throwback to old-school Italian eateries.

Black + White Tile

The rustic black and white tile is classic and totally on trend. It's the perfect neutral to the space and ties in all of the elements while allowing them to shine.

Quirky Messages

Shut up and eat! Love this simple phrase on the outdoor patio. Good design always has a sense of humor;)

Scandinavian style is essential for summer, and it's exactly what you're looking for to get the easiest and comfiest look this season. This all-consuming Pinterest and Instagram trend is so effortless, yet still cool and chic at the same time. The outfits are almost always comprised of easy-to-get pieces that are, mots likely, in your wardrobe already. And if not, here's a list of the 10 essential pieces you need in order to nail this #ScandiGirlSummer look.

Djerf Avenue

Djerf Avenue Summer Field Top

How could we talk about Scandi summer style and not mention the Scandinavian style icon herself, Matilda Djerf? She's the queen of the effortlessly cool style that we're talking about. This top is one of their new pieces, and it's just perfect to throw on with a pair of shorts and ballet flats for the summer. I've purchased so many items from this brand, and every single piece is so high quality! It'll definitely make you feel like a Scandi cool girl in no time. 100/10 for me!

Djerf Avenue

Djerf Avenue Airy Midi Dress

Another amazing Djerf Avenue find! It's currently number 1 on my wishlist for Scandinavian girl summer given how versatile it is! I love the flowy, effortlessness of the dress, especially styled with dainty flats like above! This will make for the easiest outfit combo to throw on when you're in a hurry, but still want to look chic.

Amazon

Pink Stripe Linen Shorts

Striped linen shorts are the #1 essential of mastering Scandinavian style! They're in practically every Scandinavian cool-girl's closet, and can be worn in a multitude of ways. With flats and a sweater, a matching set with Birkenstocks, the list goes on and on. A versatile essential for the summertime!

Amazon

Havaiana Flip Flops

These flip flops are not only one of the most popular Scandi-girl shoes, but they're also insanely affordable! You may think, "But these are just basic flip flops?" And while yes that is true, they're also just the perfect casual statement to add to a fancier look. Scandi girl aesthetic is all about comfort and looking effortlessly cool, so if you're wearing something traditionally more fancy like a maxi dress, then throw these on to add the signature Scandinavian style to it!

Nordstrom

Topshop Linen Button Down

Another incredibly versatile piece is a linen button down. You can throw it over so many outfit options like a dress or linen pants or even as a cover-up like above! This is a staple to take an outfit to the next level, adding an additional layer or dimension to an otherwise simple look.

Nordstrom

Birkenstock Boston Clogs

You may think that these are more of a fall and winter shoe, but scandi girls love these for the summer! I have to say that I agree as well. I wear these everywhere in the summer. I wear them with matching shorts and button down sets, or to the beach, or even sometimes with denim skirts! They're also insanely comfortable so definitely add this to your "minimalist wishlist."

Abercrombie

Abercrombie Linen Pant

Pajama style is seriously taking off right alongside the rise of Scandi style — and that's because they were the ones to revolutionize it! Really though, pajama sets in public are so in, and I'm here for it! I love these exactly styled how they are above with a white tank (another Scandi basic), flip flops, and a straw bag!

Amazon

Canvas Tote Bag

Scandi girls are always on the go, so they're always carrying a classic, tote bag to carry everything they need! I love this stylish option from Amazon for under $20. You can use it as an everyday accessory, or as a beach bag, in typical Scandi fashion.

Amazon

Oval Sunglasses

The perfect accessory to every Scandinavian outfit? You guessed it, oval sunglasses. These ones from Amazon are so affordable so you can get the Scandi girl look on a budget. They come in black and — my favorite — brown leopard!

Nordstrom

Petal & Pup Linen Set

Scandi girl summer is all about linen. It's breezy, easy, and so comfortable. Bonus points if it comes in a matching set like this one does! You can pair this cute set with your oval sunglasses, tote, and Birkenstock clogs!

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds totally feel like the internet's mom and dad. They take cute red carpet photos, go on vacations together, and incessantly joke on each other. Basically, they prove that you can be both hot and hilarious. The two actors also have major summer movies on the way (It Ends With Us and Deadpool 3, in case you were wondering), and when Ryan's Deadpool co-star Hugh Jackman posted a photo of the actor, Blake had the PERFECT response.

In the Instagram photo, which Hugh Jackman posted on July 2, Ryan Reynolds and the X-Men star appear to be relaxing in a hotel room. In the photo, Ryan, wearing a white tank top, blue pants, and a gold chain necklace, points at the camera with one arm, while showing off his bicep with the other.

"'You want me to put this away?' — Ryan Reynolds, co-star, mouth breather, a—hole," Hugh captioned the post.

If you ask me, this kind of sassy Instagram caption is perfect for two Deadpool co-stars, considering that's exactly the kind of humor you see in the movies. (And exactly the kind of humor I'd expect Ryan to have IRL). While Blake Lively hasn't made a cameo in the franchise (yet), she was more than happy to play along, commenting, "My thirst has been trapped."

"This photo is from my private collection. How dare you?" Ryan added. The idea that Ryan and Hugh take random photos to send each other (or to send Blake) is enough to make me laugh out loud. Best friend goals! Here's hoping the Deadpool 3 press junket gives us plenty of hilarious Ryan and Hugh moments!
