The Latest Baby Name Trend to Try

Baby name trends are ever changing. There are overnight sensations like Miley, Nevaeh, and Jayden. Vintage comebacks like Violet and Henry. New names that seem outlandish at first, but soon catch on, like Willow or Chase. And then there are baby name trends that define how an entire generation of names sounds.

From 1970s and 80s staples like Jason and Kevin to current favorites like Ethan, Mason, and Jackson, to up-and-comers like Langston, Lachlan, and Stetson, ends-with-n names for boys have long been dominant. Even without Aiden, Jayden, and their sound-alike friends, two syllable, ends-with-n names have been everywhere for years. Could baby names ending in r be the next wave?

They’re not new or novel, of course. There’s classic Peter, ’90s favorites Tyler and Taylor and Irish heritage pick Connor to name just a few. But lately baby names ending in r are everywhere — including this week’s baby name news and headlines. Check ’em out below.

1. Wilder:Actor Donald Faison and wife CaCee Cobb have welcomed their second child, a sister for Rocco. The couple went with Wilder Frances. While this is the first girl Wilder that I’ve heard, it’s definitely a name that’s catching on. WIth literary associations like Laura Ingalls Wilder and Thornton Wilder, as well as Hollywood legend Billy Wilder, the name feels creative, daring, and, with the r-ending, fresh.

2. Gallagher:Not every r-ending baby name is just two syllables. Names for Realspotted a Gallagher in Nebraska. It fits right in with longer surname names like Sullivan and Finnegan, as well as classics like Oliver and Alexander. If you’re old enough, you may recognize Gallagher as the name of a comedian famous for smashing watermelons on stage. But if you’re naming a baby in 2015, there’s a good chance that Gallagher is just a cool name for a son.

3. Winter:Ten-year-old surfing sensation Winter Vincent has been riding high in recent weeks, with mentions in the mainstream press for his social media savvy (his parents run his hugely successful Instagram account) and charitable works. Winter picks up on more than one trend — it’s a nature name and ends with r. Even though it’s more common for girls in the US, on sound alone, I’d put Winter with River, Cedar, and Rowan — nature names that work for boys and girls.

4. Pepper:Speaking of names that cross gender boundaries, have you seen Little Boy? Set in the Pacific Northwest during World War II, the central character is a short-for-his-age boy waiting for his father to come home from the war. The boy’s name? Pepper. There’s no explanation for the unusual names. The parents are Emma and James, but Pepper’s brother is the equally surprising London. Pepper has seen some use in fiction, from Annie’s fellow orphan Pepper to Iron Man’s Pepper Potts, but it has typically been reserved for girls.

5. Ledger:While we’re at the movies, let’s talk about Heath Ledger. His career took off around the year 2000, and a handful of boys were named Ledger. But since the actor’s untimely death, Ledger has gone from a sometimes-heard rarity to a fast-rising favorite. There were 163 newborn Ledgers in 2013, up from just nine in 2002. Now it’s one of the names I’m watching to see if it cracks the US Top 1000.

6. Deckard:One more from the movies, and another name that could catch on. The villain in the most recent installments of the The Fast and the Furious franchise answers to Deckard. No, it’s not quite an r-ending name. But it was given to 9 boys in 2013, along with 80 newborn Deckers. Is this another name to watch?

7. Ever:Mila Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson named their first daughter Ever in 2007. Alanis Morissette called her son Ever Imre in 2010. Now actor Owain Yeoman and wife Gigi are the parents of new baby girl Ever Belle. It’s less common than Everly, a word name with a meaningful vibe.

8. + 9. Elinor + Eleanor:Think this style is too modern or trendy for you? Maybe not. Consider that many classics for boys and girls end with r. Peter, Alexander, and Oliver are all great choices for a son. For a daughter, Eleanor is among the most elegant of names, regardless of spelling. The Beauty of Namesrecently coveredthe names of promising young actresses from the 1930s and 40s. Both Elinor and Eleanor make the list.

10. Clover:Let’s end with one of my favorites, spotted in a recent birth announcements round-up at Waltzing More Than Matilda. Clover feels slightly Irish and very lucky. It’s gone from rarity to rising possibility in recent years. As nature names go, Clover is bolder than Lily or Ivy, but maybe not quite as surprising as Canyon or Bay. I think it could wear every bit as well as r-ending girl favorites like Harper and Piper.

If the 2017 parent was limited to only 100 possible baby names, what should they be? Which names strike that perfect balance of being supremely stylish but not trendy, distinctive yet not weird, creative yet down-to-earth?

Shawn Mendes is in a chatty mood lately, seemingly opening up about a lot of rumors these days — including those viral Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello love triangle rumors. The controversy between this trio is all anyone could talk about during the 2024 VMAs, and now Shawn is ready to talk about it...sort of. On John Mayer's latest SiriusXM show, the singer shared some tidbits that seem to be about the alleged triangle. Here's what the singer had to say!

Scroll down to read what Shawn Mendes potentially just said about THAT Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello situation...

During John Mayer's SiriusXM radio show, How's Life, Shawn Mendes told a slightly vague — but honestly very specific, if you ask me — story about a complicated romantic situation he was in once. He explained that he was "with someone" but he told them that he was going to go hangout with his ex because he had some "unresolved feelings."

The "Stitches" singer continued, saying, “The biggest lesson I’ve heard is no one gets out of this life without getting hurt, and no one gets out of this life without hurting someone.” While nobody ever wants to hurt people — whether they're romantically involved or not — it's honestly inevitable at times, so this is a really apt lesson for Shawn to learn (and share).

Useful platitudes aside, it's not lost on us that this story seems to coincide with the rampant rumors revolving around Shawn, Sabrina, and Camila. According to ELLE, Sabrina and Shawn were spotted out together a ton in 2023, even leaving a Miley Cyrus release party together one night. However, they allegedly split due to Shawn and Camila getting back together.

The timelines between the two relationships are definitely fuzzy, and now it seems like that fact's not lost on Shawn either. Hopefully these lessons he took away from all this have helped him make amends and everyone move on.

...But I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm definitely curious to see what Sabrina and Camila's group chats with their girlfriends look like right now. 🤭

We all know about the once-male baby names like Madison and Addison, Harper and Alexis that have become popular girls’ names. Then there are the newer names crossing the gender divide toward the girls’ side. These may still be more widely used for boys, but have now moved into the Top 1000 for girls: Sawyer, Hunter, Ryan, Dallas, Royal and Ellis are the most notable.

More obscure than these, but way more newsworthy, are the boys’ names below the Top 1000 that are being used for sizable numbers of girls. We don’t mean word names like Rebel and Timber that are not intrinsically gendered or nicknames such as Billie and Joey that have long been used for girls or established unisex names such as Rowan or Robin. We’re talking about deeply traditional boys’ names that are being used, in many cases, for literally hundreds of baby girls.

In a few cases, there are powerful celebrity influences nudging these boys’ names girl-ward, such as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds naming their first daughter James or Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher naming their little girl Wyatt. We’ve starred the names that are being used more often for girls thanks to a celebrity.

Most fascinating are those gender-shifting names that have been traditionally used for boys since Biblical or Roman times… or at least since 1880 in the US. Some names in this group may be international choices that have not be widely used in the US until recently for either gender, but that are conventional male choices in their native cultures. These classically male names, with the number of girls who were given them in the US in 2015, include:

  • August, 242
  • Spencer, 237*
  • Ezra, 205
  • Tyler, 202
  • Carson, 177
  • Lincoln, 157*
  • Austin, 151
  • Noah, 137
  • Jude, 135*
  • Christian, 124
  • Hudson, 114
  • Evan, 97*
  • Ira, 97
  • Mason, 91
  • Asher, 74
  • Anderson, 74
  • Sullivan, 70
  • Gianni, 69
  • Jules, 66
  • Asa, 65
  • Wyatt, 63*
  • Aiden, 60
  • Hanan, 60
  • Kyle, 60
  • Lamar, 60
  • Levi, 58
  • Everett, 44
  • Wesley, 43
  • Jasper, 42
  • Maxwell, 40*
  • James, 38*
  • Michael, 36
  • Reed, 36
  • Soren, 34
  • Landon, 32
  • Atlas, 30
  • Judah, 30
  • Uriah, 28
  • Finn, 26
  • Brady, 35
  • Julian, 26
  • Sonny, 26
  • Barrett, 25
  • Killian, 25
  • Roman, 25
  • Blaise, 24
  • Davis, 24
  • Jackson, 24
  • Jonah, 24
  • Alexander, 22
  • Connor, 21
  • Declan, 21
  • Liam, 21
  • Oliver, 20
  • Sebastian, 20

If you go below 20, you get lots of boys’ names given to a handful of girls: There were reportedly 18 baby girls named David in 2015, along with nine named Henry and five named Maximus and Oscar. But to give you an idea of how rare that is, there were the same number of baby girls named Maleficent and Ziyi.

So what does this mean, in the larger sense? We don’t foresee Ezra and James becoming the Addison and Madison of the future, or even advocate that parents of girls rush over to the boys’ list to find fresh and edgy names for their daughters. But the growing numbers behind this phenomenon are evidence that gender is becoming as fluid a concept with names as it is in other areas of life, and that’s a development we wholeheartedly support. But it will take parents naming their sons Sarah and Serena for us to achieve true gender parity.

Dunkin’s winter menu for 2025 is lookin’ pretty sweet. Seriously – per recent menu leaks, 3 out of 5 new drinks (allegedly) coming to the menu are inspired by cake. Since there’s little I love more than a good, decadent dessert (other than coffee, of course), I’m especially excited about this speculated lineup!

The Dunkin’ winter menu leaks also report one sweet snack and an iced espresso drink that are both hauntingly similar to what Starbucks has to offer. Is the competition heating up, or is it just me?

Rumor has it that the Dunkin’ winter menu will drop on December 31, just ahead of the new year. This new menu leak is not to be confused with Dunkin's holiday menu, which dropped on November 1.

Let’s officially get into it. Here’s everything rumored to join the Dunkin’ menu this December to start 2025 off just right!

Drinks On The Leaked Dunkin' Winter Menu

@snackolator

NEW! Lava Cake Signature Latte

Lava Cake Swirl flavoring, whipped cream, mocha drizzle, and hot chocolate powder. Now that's a mouthful! That's exactly how this new rumored drink is built – with tons and tons of chocolate. If you've got a strong sweet tooth, start marking your calendar for December 31 (AKA when the Dunkin' winter menu is rumored to drop).

@snackolator

NEW! Lava Cake Coffee

Dunkin' is also rumored to feature the new Lava Cake Swirl flavoring in this creamy coffee. It looks like it'll be available to order hot or iced!

@snackolator

Brown Sugar Shakin' Espresso

Um, Starbucks dupe, anyone?! Dunkin's version of the famed Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso is rumored to follow a very similar recipe to the Starbies way: espresso (shaken until frothy), brown sugar syrup, and oat milk. I can't wait to try this one and see how it measures up to my routine Starbucks order.

Dunkin'

Brown Sugar Oat Iced Matcha Latte

Per menu leaks, it also appears Dunkin' will offer two new in-app exclusive drinks, the first being the Brown Sugar Oat Iced Matcha Latte. It's like your average iced matcha latte, amped up with some brown sugar syrup and oat milk. Yum.

@snackolator

Raspberry Lava Cake Coffee

The second in-app exclusive drink on the leaked Dunkin' winter menu is the Raspberry Lava Cake Coffee, which features a dose of Lava Cake Swirl alongside a raspberry flavor shot and cream. You'll be able to order this one hot or iced.

NEW! Whoopie Pie Specialty Donut

Now, onto the good stuff. The Dunkin' winter menu leak suggests that a new donut is on the way! The Whoopie Pie Specialty Donut will feature a halved glazed chocolate cake donut that's filled with vanilla whipped buttercreme icing and topped with a cute lil' buttercreme rosette.

Dunkin'

Iced Lemon Loaf Cake

Okay, yet another Starbucks similarity! The menu leak speculates this zesty-sweet snack will return on December 31. Dunkin's Iced Lemon Loaf Cake is moist as can be, and is topped with a thick layer of lemon icing.

Dunkin' Valentine's Donuts

The menu leak that announced the Dunkin' winter menu for 2025 also dropped some hints about the chain's Valentine's Day offerings.

According to the leak, the Brownie Batter (pictured above) and Cupid's Choice donuts will return on January 29. What's even more exciting is that a new iteration of Dunkin's Munchkins will be available, too!

The new Valentine's Munchkins will reportedly be made from glazed chocolate donut holes coated in Valentine's-esque sprinkles. I'm craving them already!

Minimal effort — that's our favorite phrase. Do a bit of arranging, brushing, and drizzling, then let the oven take care of the rest of the work for a dinner that's sure to end up on your regular recipe rotation. We use chopped potatoes, carrots, and red onion in this honey mustard chicken recipe, but you could easily replace 'em with baby new potatoes, baby carrots, and shallots (or scallions) to skip the knife work!

Bonus: Throw a bit of cooked couscous or quinoa in the leftovers (maybe a cheeky sprinkling of goat cheese too), and tomorrow's lunch is sorted. If you love the sheet-pan method, take a look at some of these veggie sheet pan dinners.

Now onto our delicious honey mustard chicken recipe!
