These Are the Best and Worst Diets, According to the Pros

New year, new me” is everyone’s favorite mantra right now, but actually living it can be pretty tough when you have no clue where to start. And especially for diets and eating, it can be a little overwhelming to keep up with what’s a fad, what’s realistic (see: baby food diet) and what actually works. US News and World Report used a panel of health experts to evaluate 38 of the most popular diets to help make your food choices a little easier. Scroll on and let the healthy eating begin!

2017’s Top Three Best Diets Overall

The panel of experts ranked the diets based on seven different factors: how easy it is to follow, short-term and long-term weight loss, nutritional completeness, safety and potential for preventing and managing diabetes and heart disease.

1. DASH Diet: Even though it has a gimmicky name — DASH is short for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension — you can think of this diet as the common sense diet. Yeah, that means lots of fruits and veggies, along with lean proteins and whole grains. Ditch the red meat, sweets and copious amounts of salt, and you’ve nailed this diet, which is designed to lower blood pressure.

2. Mediterranean Diet: This ancient diet promises weight loss and disease prevention, thanks to cutting out saturated fats. Followers not only eat plenty of plant-based foods, but they also incorporate whole grains, legumes and healthy fats into their meals.

3. MIND Diet: There’s no daydreaming involved in this healthy meal plan. Instead, this diet combines the best of the DASH and Mediterranean diets. MIND dieters also steer clear of cheeses, fried food and butter. While this diet is a relative newbie, research suggests that it could help lower participants’ risk of having Alzheimer’s disease.

2017’s Lowest-Ranked Diets Overall

36. Paleo Diet: Everybody knows somebody who’s tried the paleo diet, but that doesn’t make it the best one out there. The meal plan, which requires cutting out carbs and dairy and eating like a cave person, earned low marks for its restrictive rules and limited research proving its weight loss or health benefits.

37. Dukan Diet: When a diet promises a 10-pound weight loss in the first week (eight pounds more than any doctor advises), it deserves the side eye. In short, the Dukan Diet is a high-protein, low-carb diet that cuts out large food groups: carbs and fruit. It also has more than its fair share of bad side effects, like lethargy and constipation. Yikes! We’d rather eat fruit.

38. Whole30: Here’s proof that trendy doesn’t always mean healthy. This diet promises to cure nearly all of your ailments, but US News and World Report‘s experts argue that this restrictive diet can actually do more harm and set up participants for failure once “no-no” foods are reintroduced into the diets.

US News and World Report’s list also included a few diets that made us go, “HUH?!” The Abs Diet, which requires six meals a day and claims to target belly fat, came in at number 25, while the Engine 2 Diet, which requires going vegan and ditching vegetable oils, came in at number 20. Check out the full list here, and don’t forget to consult your doctor before embarking on any major lifestyle changes.

I’ve triedtons of different food trends in my day. From dumping chili oil on ice cream to concocting my very own Sleepy Girl Mocktail, nothing I’ve eaten measures up to the sheer weirdness we saw go viral on social media this year (major side eye to Dua Lipa’s pickle Diet Coke).

These are the top 5 most ridiculous TikTok-viral food trends of 2024 that left us questioning whether they really should’ve gone viral in the first place.

@claudiaeatsgood chamoy pickles are so good😋😩❤️ @Bussin Snacks #chamoypickle#chamoy#chamoypicklekit#bussinsnacks#takis#fruitrollup#mukbang#asmr#asmrmukbang#chamoypicklemukbang#juicy#pickle#mexicancandy♬ original sound - Claudia💕

1. Chamoy Pickles

People couldn't quit it with the chamoy pickles (AKA chickles) this year. I never would've guessed that chamoy, a condiment made from dried fruits, chilies, sugar, and lime juice, would be slathered atop the sourest pickles money can buy.

But the food trend didn't stop at just chamoy – many snackers stuffed their pickles with everything from the likes of Hot Cheetos, Takis, and Fruit Roll-Ups. What?!

This insanely sour, tangy treat kickstarted what the internet's coined as the 'Red 40 Diet', which certainly cannot be medically advised.

If you care for your GI tract, this food trend is 100% worth skipping and leaving behind in 2024.

What do we call her?

2. Pickle + Jalapeño-Infused Diet Coke

Diet Coke, pickle juice, and jalapeño juice = all the ingredients needed to concoct Dua Lipa's controversial 2024 drink. She loves it, but I on the other hand, do not.

Now, don't get me wrong: I love a good unexpected flavor combo, but gulping down a simultaneous dose of both pickle juice and jalapeño juice was not tasty to me whatsoever.

This trend even sparked a slew of Sonic diners to start ordering their soft drinks with pickles – but as divisive as this trend can be ("Don’t knock it till you try it," TikToker Mississippi Memaw told Food and Wine), it's just flat out weird.

3. Cucumber Salad

If you bought a mandolin slicer recently, you might as well admit you're a victim of the TikTok-viral cucumber salad trend that made its rounds this year.

"Sometimes you need to eat an entire cucumber," TikTok user @logagmsounds off in the intro of every single one of his cucumber salad videos. And thus, the food trend was born.

It felt like I couldn't go a day on TikTok without seeing at least 5 recipes for a damn cucumber salad. When it comes down to it, I can appreciate the novelty (and taste) of this trend, but not the oversaturation. I'm gonna eat an entire cucumber one day, and get so tired of it the next. New innovations in 2025, please!

@kylekruegerr Would you try these?😂 #foodreview#seagrapes#food#review#tastetest#weirdfood♬ original sound - Kyle Krueger

4. Sea Grapes

It was like people wanted to eat the weirdest, grossest things in 2024. I can't blame 'em, especially if it's for clicks and views. But this food trend in particular literally made me want to gag – and I was only watching people eat through a screen (any fellow ASMR fans out there?).

They don't look like they're supposed to be crunchy, but they are. Sea grapes grow from aquatic plants and are filled with essentially what is a "salty liquid." They burst in the mouth when you eat them (one TikToker called them 'edible Orbeez'). Yuck.

@julieta.asmr I figured it out!! Blooper at the end 🥴 #asmr#asmrcommunity#asmrtiktoks#asmrvideo#asmrsounds#asmreating#asmrfood#asmrfyp#asmrmukbang#mukbang#asmreatingsounds♬ original sound - Julieta ASMR 🍒

5. Exploding Candies

The final (and especially weird) food trend I propose we leave behind in 2024 is these dang exploding jelly candies. They also made their rounds on ASMR TikTok, and I truly cannot stand to watch a single video featuring them.

First off, they look so annoying to consume. The fruit-shaped jellies are contained in a thin layer of plastic that's meant to burst open when you sink your teeth into it, prompting you to slurp out the sweetness inside. But what irks me the most is the fact that many people trying them can't even break the seal.

I'd rather watch someone make a simple PB&J than go to town on these microplastic-infused candies.

After Taylor Swift was broughtinto the middle of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's legal battle (the popstar was allegedly present alongside Blake, Justin, and Ryan Reynolds, praising Blake's It Ends With Us script rewrite), Justin's lawyer Bryan Freedman revealed that Taylor could be deposed in their March 2026 trial. And after all those Blake Lively and Taylor Swift feud rumors, this an update I wasn't expecting.

Here's everything we know about Taylor Swift's potential involvement in Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's It Ends With Us legal battle.

Taylor Swift could "provide evidence" in the Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively trial.

While on TMZ's Two Angry Men podcast on February 5, Bryan Freedman said that Taylor Swift could be deposed, or called to testify (often in writing) in the case between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively.

"I don’t know that we’re going to depose Taylor Swift. I think that that’s going to be probably a game time decision. I don’t know that that decision has been made,” he says. “But, I can tell you this, anyone that reasonably has information that can provide evidence in this case is going to be deposed.”

After the meeting between the four stars, Blake allegedly texted Justin about why she had called on Ryan and Taylor in the first place. "If you ever get around to watching Game of Thrones, you'll appreciate that I'm Khaleesi, and like her, I happen to have a few dragons," Justin claims she said. "For better or worse, but usually for better. Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. you will too, I can promise you."

The conversation comes after Justin Baldoni published two years' worth of It Ends With Us messages on his website TheLawsuitInfo.com — and Blake and Ryan moved to dismiss Jusin's original lawsuit.

And on February 3, the costars' judge warned their lawyers to calm their publicity war down so they don't sway the jury. Judge Lewis Liman warned Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's legal teams to "rein in the public relations war outside the courtroom," according to People, and to avoid saying anything with a "substantial likelihood" of leading the jury to have a bias one way or the other.

There's still an entire year before we'll see these two in court, and the fact Blake Lively just got sued again proves anything can happen.

Read up on why, for some reason, Blake Lively's Controversial It Ends With Us Costumes Cost Over Half A Million Dollars.

It’s always exciting when we’ve got a menu leak on our hands! Courtesy of foodie @markie_devo, speculation around the Dunkin’ spring menu has begun. Per the rumors, Dunkin’ could be launching 3 new savory snacks alongside 1 perfectly nutty coffee beverage and (drumroll, please!) potentially bringing back the beloved Dunkalatte.

The chain just dropped their adorable (and delicious) Valentine's Day menu with plenty of themed donuts for customers to munch on. We’re simply stoked to see what’s coming next!

Keep scrolling for everything we know about the Dunkin’ spring menu for 2025!

Drinks On The Rumored Dunkin' Spring Menu

Dunkin'

Dunkalatte

The Dunkalatte first came to menus last fall. Per Dunkin', it's "sweet, creamy, and unlike anything else," combining rich espresso with smooth coffee milk for an extra boost. It quickly gained popularity amongst Dunkin' fans, but was seemingly discontinued not even a month after its initial launch.

But now, there's a reason to celebrate – the Dunkin' spring menu rumors say that the Dunkalatte may return on March 5! You'll allegedly be able to order it hot or iced, too.

Dunkin'

Pistachio Coffee

It's been a while since Dunkin' served up something pistachio-flavored. Finally, per the menu leak, the Pistachio Coffee could be making its grand debut on March 5. Said to be available hot or iced, it's a simple brewed coffee made with pistachio swirl and cream.

We're super excited to try this Dunkin' pistachio offering since we already adore Starbucks' Pistachio Latte!

Food On The Rumored Dunkin' Spring Menu

Dunkin'

NEW! Ham & Cheese Pretzel Sliders

Dunkin's launched several pretzel snacks throughout the years, like the Pretzel Roll Chicken Sandwich, the Pretzel Twist, and the Pretzel Croissant Breakfast Sandwich, but we've never seen anything like these slider-sized bites.

Made with King's Hawaiian pretzel buns, the rumored Ham & Cheese Pretzel Sliders look like an ahh-mazing eat for breakfast and beyond!

Dunkin'

Chicken Bacon Croissant Stuffer

The menu leak also speculates that the Chicken Bacon Croissant Stuffer will return to Dunkin' on March 5. Stuffed with the ideal amount of meat and cheese, this snack is a reliable pick-me-up in the morning.

Dunkin'

Sweet Black Pepper Snackin' Bacon

The Sweet Black Pepper Snackin' Bacon is also rumored to come back to the Dunkin' spring menu on March 5. These strips feature a pleasant balance of sweet and savory!

More Dunkin' Spring Menu Items – To Drop April 2025!

@markie_devo

NEW! Cotton Candy Donut

There's a whole other half of the Dunkin' spring menu that's rumored to drop on April 2! The first item is the all-new Cotton Candy Donut, which appears to be stuffed with some sort of sweet filling and topped with a combo of pink icing and blue sprinkles.

Dunkin'

NEW! Blueberry Sprinkled Munchkins

Some Blueberry Sprinkled Munchkins will also allegedly join the Dunkin' spring menu on April 2.

@markie_devo

NEW! Spring Munchkins Buckets

Per the menu leak, Dunkin's springtime Munchkins flavors will be available in these adorable buckets. The chain's offered Munchkins Buckets before, most notably around Halloween 2024, where you could carry out a 50-count of donut holes in 'em.

What People Are Saying About The Dunkin' Spring Menu

Foodie @markie_devo first shared the Dunkin' spring menu leak with their Instagram followers on February 5. A majority of the comments were positive, and most people seemed to be super excited for the new rumored lineup.

"I cannot wait for the Dunkalatte to be back!!" someone commented. "It’s delicious. 😋"

"The Dunkalatte is the best thing they’ve ever came out with," another person wrote.

"Pistachio finally omggg😍," one more commenter said.

"In between The Cotton Candy Donut, The Dunkalatte, and The Pistachio Iced Coffee, idk which one I am going to be more addicted to soo yummy I can’t wait 🤤," another person said.
