7 Stunning Pacific Northwest Destinations to Make the Most of Summer

We all deserve a summer vacation. Whether you’re shaking off the winter or escaping the heat from down south, few places offer more spectacular scenery than the Pacific Northwest. If you spend your days dreaming of all the delicious cuisine you want to eat on your travels, considering where you might plan a resort stay, or even looking up routes for an off-the-beaten-path road trip, consider these must-see PNW destinations. They might just change your plans.

San Juan Island

1. San Juan Island, Washington: The San Juan Islands, a group of islands of which San Juan Island is one, get half the rainfall of nearby Seattle and Portland but offer just as much beauty. Take a ferry to this most populous island in the archipelago or, for a real adventure, fly in a sea plane. From there, wander the shops at Friday Harbor, bring a picnic to Lime Kiln Point, and watch for whales or shuck your own fresh oysters at Westcott Bay Shellfish.

2. Columbia River Gorge, Oregon / Washington: The Columbia River is what divides the majority of Oregon and Washington, and its remarkable vistas make it clear why neither state would want to part with it. Although sections of the gorge burned in 2017, it’s still a stunning location for hiking, water sports, or a scenic road trip. Stop at the impressive Multnomah Falls, the second-highest year-round waterfall in the country; try your hand at paddle boarding or even kite boarding in Hood River; and have an afternoon wine-tasting at one of the more than 30 wineries in the area.

3. Mount Rainier National Park, Washington: You could spend a lifetime wandering the awe-inspiring trails surrounding Mount Rainier and never get enough. While we definitely recommend taking a hike, summertime means you can also drive a circle around the towering volcano or take the most scenic route on the Chinook Byway. Want to stay for the night? Rent the Cedar Creek Treehouse, which has its own observatory, swings, and a suspension bridge — which you’ll need, since you’ll be sleeping 80 feet above the ground!

4. Lassen Volcanic National Park, Northern California: While this might not look like the typical Pacific Northwest, volcanic activity is the bedrock of the stunning landscapes we’ve come to recognize in the region. Lassen lets you beat the crowds you’d find at Yosemite and still get a glimpse of volcanic power. See hydrothermal features such as roaring fumaroles (steam and volcanic-gas vents), mud pots, and boiling pools from the safety of sturdy walkaways, and visit breathtaking lakes and tall forests.

5. Crater Lake National Park, Oregon: Crater Lake is hard to adequately capture in pictures, but it’s exactly what it sounds like — a lake that formed in the crater center of a long-ago exploded volcano. The resulting 1,949-foot-deep lake is the deepest in the United States and ninth-deepest in the world. Take the 33-mile drive around the lake, venture out on the water on a boat tour, and sleep for the night at the Crater Lake Lodge so you can sneak out after dark to get one of the best views of the Milky Way in America.

6. Crescent City, Northern California: After being devastated by a tsunami in 1964, Crescent City has rebuilt with a beautiful waterfront town. Visit Battery Point Lighthouse, which is only accessible at low tide, for a gorgeous panoramic view. When you’ve got your fill of the sea, take a trip to Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, which is home to old-growth coast redwood trees.

7. Cannon Beach, Oregon: If you want more from a beach than just a great place to tan, plan a stop at Cannon Beach, a standout among many spectacular towns along the Oregon Coast. Known for large, looming Haystack Rock, the beach is home to tide pools where you may spot starfish or crab, and are certain to see many anemone. Take a horseback ride along the beach, hike up to Ecola Point, and see Hug Point where the remnants of a primitive road still remain — just make sure to go at low tide.

It's almost time to return to Cousins! The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 is coming this summer, and Prime Video just gave us a first official look at Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad. The new episodes will open at the end of Belly's freshman year of college, and in addition to seeing the evolution of our favorite characters, author and co-showrunner Jenny Han says "there are going to be surprises" in the final season. Eek!

Here's your first look at Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno, and Christopher Briney in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, coming to Prime Video July 2025!

Jenny Han says 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' fans are in for a few surprises.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

"There are the things that [fans] know and then there are things they think they know, and then there's going to be, hopefully, things that surprise them," Jenny Han tells Entertainment Weekly. Listen, I am a very proud member of Team Conrad, and seeing how cozy Belly and Jeremiah are in these pics (not to mention the set leak that's definitely not in the third book), I'm starting to wonder if Prime Video is teasing I should switch teams.

But no matter which team you're on, Lola Tung promises the season won't let you down.

Team #JellyFish will get their time this season.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

"The one thing I've always admired about Jenny is that every season and every decision about what's coming next is purely to serve the story," Lola says. "She's never going to do anything that doesn't make sense for the story. It's all about this beautiful world she's created and giving the fans something really, really special and giving us something really special to work with."

And that includes some sweet moments which Jeremiah and Belly, who "are, at their core, best friends," Lola adds. "That relationship is something that's so special and so unique to them, so it's exciting to see this season and how their relationship blossoms."

And 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' images also feature Conrad.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

But don't worry Conrad fans, we also get a look at the elder Fisher brother who "we know that he went to Stanford, and so he's continuing on his journey to become a doctor, as you can see from that white coat," Jenny says. "I think people won't be surprised to see that."

Keep reading for more images from The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3!

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Jenny Han also teases this image is actually a flashback, "so do with that what you will." BRB, I'm off dreaming of a beach vacation. I also can't help but point out the warm color grade of this season! The golden look makes everything feel warmer and more magical — and offers a youthful glow as Belly gets older.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

But for those of us who care more about Steven and Taylor (Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer) than the main love triangle, we got this single crumb from the new images. And I'm more than happy about it, thank you very much.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Belly (Lola Tung) gets cozy on campus in a hoodie and sunglasses.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

And Belly and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) get cozy with each other at a party.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

But they work as hard as they play! I have this exact outfit Belly's wearing, and you best believe I'm adding it into my fashion rotation.

How many episodes will The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 have?

Erika Doss/Prime Video

Great news! The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will have 11 episodes instead of 7 or 8 like seasons 1 and 2 did. Stay tuned for the official release schedule.

Who's in the cast?

Prime Video

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 cast features all your favorites:

  • Lola Tung as Belly Conklin: a beach-loving volleyball player who's always dreaming of summer.
  • Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher: Belly and Steven's lifelong friend who Belly's always had a crush on.
  • Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah Fisher: Conrad's sunny younger brother.
  • Sean Kaufman as Steven Conklin: Belly's older brother.

Meet The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Cast before the new episodes air on Prime Video this July!

I truly believe that there are two types of people in this world: ones who like nice flights, and ones who like nice hotels. I, for one, am the latter of the two. I will fly the absolutely cheapest, tiniest airline you could possibly imagine....but I love a good hotel. And honestly, it works out because I ultimately save money on the flight and put it towards my lodging. In doing this, I've stayed at quite a few fun hotels over the years, from international destinations to right in my hometown of LA. These are worldwide, some of the best hotels out there that you should definitely add to your travel wishlist too. These 10 nice hotels will make you feel like you're living in a movie, so keep reading to see all the places that will make you wanna book a flightASAP!

Chateau de la Chèvre d'Or

Chateau de la Chèvre d'Or in Eze, France

Tucked away in a small medieval town in the South of France called Eze is the dreamy 5-star hotel, Chateau de la Chèvre d'Or. This hotel truly makes you feel like you're living in the movie The Bucket List — maybe because it was also featured in the film, but still. The picturesque views of the ocean, stunning amenities like the three cliffside pools, and the sprawling gardens all make for the perfect hotel and the reason why it's my number one nice hotel I've ever stayed in.

Chateau de la Chèvre d'Or is also one of the cheaper 5-star hotels I've stayed in, with rooms sometimes costing as low as $450 a night in the off-season. While this is still expensive, it's surprising when you see all that the property has to offer alongside the spectacular views and prime location.

Villa d'Este

Villa d'Este in Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como was another favorite destination of mine, and while you can't go wrong with any of the hotels on the lake, Villa d'Este was an favorite of mine. The service is simply unmatched, along with the to-die-for views of the water. Every day, breakfast is served right out on the patio with this stunning, serene view. The grounds are hundreds of years old, with acres of gardens across the property, so you truly can never be bored. The whole hotel just exudes old fashioned luxury, and it almost makes you feel like you have been transported to another time.

While Chateau de la Chèvre d'Or is my top choice, I have to say that Villa d'Este has the best service out of all the hotels I've stayed at — they truly treat you like royalty! Plus, there's a floating pool on the lake...so you really can't say no to that, right?!

Rosewood Miramar

Rosewood Miramar in Santa Barbara, CA

You will NOT want to miss out on staying here! The Rosewood Miramar is like stepping straight into a Nancy Meyers movie. It's a beautiful hotel right on the beach with some of the prettiest decor and interiors that you'll want to replicate in your own home (trust me, I've tried). The amenities include a pool right by the beach, plus top-notch service — a must for a nice hotel! I love this ocean-side stay for a relaxing, coastal vacay!

The Savoy

The Savoy in London, England

I particularly love The Savoy in London for their incredible spa. They offer a lot of fantastic deals where you can get a room, breakfast, and two spa treatments with your booking! I'd highly recommend this hotel for their stunning decor and luxury spa! I'm sure it will be a much-needed break for some solid R&R to enjoy while vacationing to London.

Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace

Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace in Versailles, France

Walking through the gates of Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palacewas like walking through Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. They have acres of gardens covered in flowers with the background being their massive chateau-style hotel. It was truly a remarkable stay! I adored eating breakfast in the garden room, and walking out to explore the grounds every morning. Plus, if you walk right out of the hotel gate, you'll waltz straight into the Palace of Versailles itself. So, it's proximity to all the tourist attractions nearby are super ideal! I loved the spa and amenities here, as well as looking out the large windows of our hotel room to see people riding horses right outside! This is a stunning stay that makes you feel like you're royalty in the countryside of your centuries-old chateau.

Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc

Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc in Antibes, France

Do you remember when Sofia Richie-Grainge broke the internet with her incredibly luxe wedding? Well, this was exactly where it all went down — the Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc!I adore this hotel for so many reasons: the service is amazing, the rooms are to die for, the pool is iconic, and the location is prime! It's located in the adorable town of Antibes, France where there's a cute village filled with restaurants, shopping, and lots of action! There is no shortage of things to do when you're at this hotel. An added bonus is that they have the Dior spa located at the hotel, so make sure to stop in for a Dior facial! ;)

Passalacqua

Passalacqua in Lake Como, Italy

This is another Lake Como hotel, but I had to add Passalacqua because it was recently named the #1 Hotel of the Year by The World's 50 Best! What I love about this hotel is the massive array of experiences they offer! To name a short few: private cinema screenings under the stars with canopy chairs, exquisite, Michelin-level fine dining, cooking classes, tennis lessons, and so many more! That's not even scratching the surface of this hotel. It's truly a remarkable place and a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so if you get the chance to stay here, definitely do it!

Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri

Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri in Rome, Italy

Perched right on the hill in Rome is this massive — and incredibly beautiful — 5-star hotel, Rome Cavalieri. The property truly speaks to the beauty of Italian architecture, design, and art. I mean, the art and decor adorning the walls is centuries old, and it seems like you're sitting right in the middle of a museum. The rooms have a gorgeous balcony that look out over the whole city of Rome, as well as the hotel's sprawling green garden. I stayed here a couple of years ago, and I still dream of their free massive buffet breakfast filled with the most divine pastries, meats, and cheeses. I love this hotel!

The Ritz Paris

The Ritz Paris in Paris, France

If you're like me, you've dreamed of staying at The Ritz Paris at least once in your life. It's a legendary, iconic hotel, with the famous Bar Hemingway located inside. Words can't describe how beautiful this hotel is as soon as you step through the doors. Everything from the rooms, to the location, down to the stunning (and large) lobby is everything you'd expect from The Ritz. It's another one of those once-in-a-lifetime stays that you definitely should try and go to! As Hemingway once said, "When I dream of afterlife in heaven, the action always takes place in the Paris Ritz."Couldn't have put it better myself, Ernest!

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, California

I've stayed at the Waldorf Beverly Hills many times (I'm a Hilton member so I often get to stay for free — thank you points!), and I will never get tired of it. The staff are some of the nicest people and truly go out of their way to help you with anything you need. This hotel also has one of my favorite amenities: the house car. At this hotel, they have a house car that will, for free, drop you anywhere within 10 minutes that you need to be. For example, one day I wanted to get bagel on Rodeo, so I thought I'd take the house car not knowing what kind it was...up pulled a blue phantom Rolls Royce with constellation ceilings and plush carpet. Everyone thought I was famous because who gets dropped off at a bagel shop in a Rolls Royce?! Well, I did — but only because it was free! So if that doesn't convince you to stay here then I don't know what will!

1923 season 2 premieres on Paramount+ February 23, and Michelle Randolph (who plays Elizabeth Dutton in the cast) is "so excited" for you to watch the new episodes — and she's been keeping up with all your fan theories!

"There are some crazy ones. I feel like the biggest fan theory thing is the family tree," she tells Brit + Co exclusively. "I've seen many different family trees and so it's like, 'OK, which one's accurate?' I actually drew my own at one point."

Here's what Michelle Randolph had to say about 1923 season 2, and the Dutton family tree, in Brit + Co's exclusive 1923 interview.

Michelle Randolph teases '1923' season 2 finally gives us answers to the Dutton family tree.

By the end of season 2, Michelle Randolph says "we might be able to fill in some blanks" in the Dutton family tree, which is a very hot topic for internet users! "I had to make my own [family tree] because all of the ones I saw on the internet were like — every single one was different. I was like 'I'm confused.'"

The Dutton family is made up of incredible cast members like Brandon Sklenar, Harrison Ford, and Helen Mirren, and Michelle reveals that the cast are just as close as their characters.

"There's a giant group chat called Giddy Up, which started during cowboy camp of season one," she says. "A cute little name, and I think I mean we all were on location in Montana and all in the same hotel, and we would get dinners after [filming], so I think even though our characters are very different and in different story lines like we all really did bond, which was really helpful to have each other throughout the chaos of of shooting a show."

The actress also says Elizabeth would connect with her 'Landman' character Ainsley.

And if you're a tried and true Taylor Sheridan fan, you've probably picked up on the fact that Michelle isn't just in 1923 — she also has a starring role as Ainsley Norris in Landman! But would Elizabeth and Ainsley get along if they met in an alternate universe?

"That would be a fun thing to witness. I think they would," she says. "They're very different, but the similarities between them is they're both young women who are finding their place in this world and I think that they both actually look at the world through very bright eyes and have a lot of hope, which is an interesting correlation between the two of them. I think Elizabeth has gone through so much more than Ainsley obviously, so there might be a difference there, but I think they would get along."

Leaders in the matcha industry are predicting a matcha shortage this spring. Sparked by a huge surge in demand, it’s possible that your go-to drink could be affected.

Here’s everything you need to know about this season’s matcha shortage.

Per The Japan Times, increased demand for matcha powder put an “unprecedented strain” on the tea industry last year, and the same effect is predicted to take place in 2025.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan saw a 185% increase in matcha production from 2010 to 2023 in order to keep up with demand from cafes and home baristas around the world, The Japan Timesreports.

Seeing that over half of Japan’s matcha is exported internationally, matcha lovers are looking toward the country for their green tea fix. Search interest for matcha has nearly quadrupled over the past 5 years, and it shows no sign of slowing down.

This year, mostly organic matcha strains will be affected by the shortage, though lower-grade varieties could face the same issues if consumers begin reaching for them in favor of organic offerings. While top-tier, organic strains like ceremonial-grade matcha are known for being sweeter and smoother, the lower-grade kinds like culinary-grade matcha are noticeably more bitter and don't have the same vibrant color.

Matcha can only be harvested in the springtime, so though a shortage may be happening now, there’s hope for increased supply in the near future. This year’s harvest will start in April.

Even though production will ramp up, Jason Eng of Kametani Tea in Japan, a company that produces matcha for beverage companies around the world, says: “This year will be an interesting one. We haven’t hit a point yet where we’re going to run out, but it’s going to be really tight this autumn – not just for us but for everybody. The demand is off the charts.”
