How to Copy the 11 Best Red Carpet Manicures (So Far)

Recreating your favorite red carpet beauty looks in under 10 minutes *is* possible, but braiding + pinning your tresses or blending a sultry smokey eye aren’t exactly what we’d call our go-to solutions for upgrading your look on the fly. For that kind of primping inspiration, we look to manicures, the beauty routine with quite possibly the lowest learning curve and quickest refining results. So, we’ve kept our eyes peeled for polish during this month’s string of star-studded events.

1. Laverne Cox: At the SAG awards, the Orange is the New Black actress matched her mani with her lustrous gown, pale pink hue and all. To take this look off othe red carpet, we’d pair our pearlescent digits, painted with Essie Imported Bubbly ($9), with a cozy, winter-warm knit to play up that frosty finish. (Photos via Ethan Miller/Getty)

2. Sarah Hyland: Instead of wearing a gem tone to match the Modern Family actress’ shimmering dress, Sarah chose a sweeter nail polish shade for the SAG awards: a light pink with orchid undertones that complements her outfit’s iridescence. We’ll keep a similar polish likeForever 21 Dusty Pink Nail Polish ($3) around when we want our navy blazers or purple knits to pop. (Photos via Ethan Miller/Getty)

3. Lupita Nyong’o: Of course the Oscar winer deviates from the pack with her SAG nails look. Here, her dark French tips on her nearly-white nails have the same playful feel as her mixed-patterned gown. To get the look, you can use two shades of traditional nail polish and hole punch pages to create that half-moon arch or make it a one-and-done deal with Jamberry French Tip Nail Wraps ($15). (Photos via Ethan Miller/Getty)

4. Emma Stone: The Birdman actress keeps it classic with a deep red mani (with a lip to match) at the SAGs. Copy the matchy-matchy makeup look the next time you slip on your LBD with a lip the same hue as your red lacquer of choice. Ours = Dior Vernis Gel Shine and Long Wear Nail Lacquer ($27).(Photos via Ethan Miller/Getty)

5. Felicity Jones: Not only is the color of Felicity’s Golden Globes gown stunning, but so is too the fact that the Theory of Everything star’s nail polish’s peachy undertones stand out against it. Be sure to pair a lacquer like NCLA Don’t Call Me Peachy ($20) with your collection of dark chiffon blouses. (Photos via Jason Merritt/Getty)

6. Emily Blunt: The Into the Woods actress’ hunt for the perfect nude polish for her skin tone stops here with her Golden Globes mani (let’s have a moment for this unbelievably pale pink shade). If *you’re* still on the hunt for the just-the-right nude lacquer, investing in a set like Lauren B Nude Polish Collection ($75) might just open up the possibilities to find your shade soulmate (+ three other wear-anywhere colors). (Photos via Jason Merritt/Getty)

7. Keira Knightley: Keira’s Golden Globes dress and clutch are gorgeously over the top, and so her silver metallic polish stands up to the rest of her look while remaining chic. Try an opaque sparkler like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Spanglemaker ($10) the next time you toss on your favorite statement piece. (Photos via Jason Merritt/Getty)

8. Jennifer Aniston: ’90s beauty (including “the Rachel” cut) is back in a big way this season, so it seems pretty perfect that Jennifer channel the vibe with a moody oxblood polish at the premiere of her movie Cake. Notice though how she makes a deep burgundy hue like Smith & Cult Lover’s Creep ($18) feel very of-the-moment by accessorizing with delicate rings and modern cuffs — a move to copy to a tee. (Photos via Jason Merritt/Getty)

9. Lena Dunham: Always one to follow the beat of her own beauty drum, Girls‘ creator and star goes very dark with her polish at the Golden Globes while the rest of her peers flash barely-there shades, and it totally works. We love her contrast of girly accessories like bold pearls with an edgy black lacquer. Put your take on the updown bling with downtown digits with an unexpected espresso-black shade like Habit Diabolique ($18). (Photos via Jason Merritt/Getty)

10. Chelsea Peretti: The Brooklyn 99 actress knows how to pull off power pink: here at the SAGs, she’s pairing it with traditional neutrals and lots of bling. You do the same with a shiny fuchsia like Habit Darling Nikki ($18) that will elevate any wardrobe basic (along with whatever statement jewels you have on hand). (Photos via Ethan Miller/Getty)

11. Leslie Mann: Leslie’s iridescent everything at the Critic’s Choice Awards is gracefully balanced by her ballerina pink mani. Remember this fool-proof nail polish hack when you’re settling on a color to go with your GNO outfit: get past your everything-must-sparkle hang up and go for a similarly clean yet perky polish like ORLY Confetti Nail Polish ($9). When any red carpet rolls around, there are certain couples we can pretty much always count on to show up looking cuter than ever. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Eddie Redmayne and his wife Hannah Bagshawe, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend… But anyone who’s ever seen a tabloid knows that celebrity couples often have a relatively short lifespan. And so when we decided to look back at the red carpet couples of the past, we rediscovered a whole bunch of duos we totally forgot ever existed. These stars are incredible on their own, but even more powerful together. Scroll on down to take a look at all the now-Hollywood exes who made us do a double take.

Juliette Lewis + Brad Pitt

Vinnie Zuffante/Archive Photos/Getty Images

We tend to think of Angelina and Jennifer as Brad’s two big loves, but before them (and Gwyneth) came Juliette Lewis. The two dated for four years when they were both on the cusp of total stardom. These two just might be tied with Johnny Depp and Kate Moss as the most ’90s couple that’s ever existed.

Michael Jackson + Brooke Shields

Michael Ochs Archive/Getty Images

A budding supermodel and a global pop sensation? It’s kind of a Hollywood match made in heaven, just like Brooke's curls. That dress on the other hand? We’re not so sure.

Matthew Broderick + Jennifer Grey

Vinnie Zuffante/TriStar/Getty Images

As much as we’d like to believe Sarah Jessica Parker was Matthew Broderick’s one and only, this couple makes a lot of sense. The two were both the main characters in epic teen ’80s movies – we’ll just forget about the fact that they played brother and sister in one of them…

Jake Gylenhaal + Reese Witherspoon

Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

Dang, why didn’t this couple work out again? Oh right, probably because that much wonderfulness packed into one couple would make the world explode. But they sure did look good together!

Drew Barrymore + Corey Feldman

Vinnie Zuffante/Getty Images

Feldman once said that his first date with Drew was arranged by her mother when she was 10 and he was 14, because apparently Barrymore had a huge crush on him. They later dated briefly (this time for real) in 1989, when Drew was a teenager. Unfortunately, he was heavily into drugs during that time and she was trying to stay sober after multiple stints in rehab, so it didn’t last long.

Winona Ryder + Christian Slater

New World Pictures/Getty Images

Here’s to hoping this relationship ended a little more amicably than it did for their Heathers characters.

Julia Roberts + Kiefer Sutherland

Vinnie Zuffante/Getty Images

It was supposed to be one of the biggest Hollywood weddings ever, and then all of a sudden, Julia called it off. Tragic. At least we have this red carpet moment to remember the couple by.

Stacy Keibler + George Clooney

Jason Merritt/Getty Images

Now that Amal is in the picture, it’s hard to imagine George with anyone else. But before that British vision of elegance came Stacy Keibler, the stunning professional wrestler and George’s beau for two years.

There are few things in our daily lives as horrifying as a first date with a stranger. That is, assuming you're not getting catfished and they're not a crazy person. Well, in Meghann Fahy's new thriller, she finds herself on the perfect first date that takes a turn for the terrifying when an anonymous stranger starts tormenting her...and then instructs her to kill her date. The poster for Drop definitely gets my adrenaline pumping — and I love Meghann Fahy's glam eyeshadow & manicure paired with the terror in her eyes. Because, duh, of course this Emmy-nominted actress can act with her eyes like nobody's business. And the bold red of the graphic design? Chef's kiss.

Sarah Jessica Parker captured our hearts as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, but she captured Matthew Broderick's heart much before that. What sets SJP apart from her character on Sex and the City is that while Carrie is indecisive, frantic, lost, and even problematic in her relationships over the years, Sarah is the exact opposite. She's remained steady in her relationship over the course of many years and is still as in love with Matthew as ever.

Their secret to staying in love? SJP told the Hollywood Reporter, "I’ve always said one of the reasons we’ve had success is because we don’t talk about our marriage. I’m not flattering myself that anyone’s discussing my marriage, but we’re certainly not going to add to it by saying, 'Well, this is why it works.' Next thing you know, there’ll be a very public divorce. So we just try to respect each other." Sounds like respect and privacy have gone a long way to nurture their personal love story despite being in the public eye!

We just adore this duo and how dedicated and supportive they've been to each other so we just had to give you the scoop on how the love birds met along with a deep dive into their whole relationship history!

Did You Know This Fun Fact About the SJP & Matthew Broderick?

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have known each other since 1991 — that's over 30 years! They've known each other and been married since 1997. SJP and Matthew Broderick also share three kids together whose names are James, Tabitha, and Marion. We just love their love and can't wait to tell you all about it below so keep reading!

November 1991/January 1993 — Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick Meet

The two actually met through Parker's brothers who ran a local theatre in New York City. SJP was visiting the theatre to see her brothers' play and Broderick had recently directed a play at the very same theatre. The two met and a couple months later, Broderick sweetly left her a voicemail which led to the romance! We love a direct man!

May 1997 — Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick Tie the Knot

The two finally get married after years of dating! They ended up doing a surprise ceremony for all of their closest friends and family to enjoy while SJP's sister officiated the ceremony. Sarah Jessica Parker didn't even wear white on her wedding day — what would Carrie think?

She later told Marie Claire in an interview, "I wore black on my wedding day, and I really regret that," Sarah Jessica Parker says. "I was too embarrassed to get married in white, and both Matthew and I were reluctant to have people pay so much attention to us. Which is ridiculous, because that's when you can relish the attention, when it's natural. We treated it like it was a big party on a Monday night, and I regret it."

But it definitely wasn't bad luck to not wear white because the couple is now revered for having one of the longest lasting marriages in Hollywood!

August 2002 — Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick Are Expecting Their First Child

Sarah Jessica Parker was pregnant with her first son during filming for the fifth season of Sex and The City (although the wardrobe department did a great job at concealing the pregnancy for Parker's on-screen character). The couple remained very private throughout their whole pregnancy and birth.

Sarah Jessica Parker won an Emmy Award for her role in our favorite show, Sex and the City. She thanked her three cast members in her speech and then went on to thank her family, including Matthew, who was of course sitting in the audience proudly watching her experience this incredible moment.

November 2006 — Sarah Jessica Parker And Matthew Broderick Are All Family

As it turns out, talent runs in the family as Matthew's mother, Patricia Broderick, was a well-known artist and playwright. Here they are pictured at an art show in New York that was honoring the late artist who had passed away a few years before this. Keeping family close is clearly important to the couple, as they remain a tight-knit family unit even now.

June 2009 — Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick Have Twins

In 2009, the couple welcomed twins! Holy moly! The former group of three became five with the birth of their sweet twin babies. The twins are now in high school, believe it or not! September 2011 — Sarah Jessica Parker Talks Parenthood

Fast forward to 2011 where their oldest is a toddler and the twins are still very young. We can't imagine the busy-ness for SJP and Broderick, balancing life and work while having three young kids under the age of five! SJP told E! that "Everyone should be scared of motherhood." She goes on to elaborate that, "It's good to be scared. You should be! Love is scary and friendship is scary and children, even more so." Well that we can definitely agree with!

June 2016 — Sarah Jessica Parker And Matthew Broderick On "Conscious Coupling"

The couple ditched their shared home and instead opted for two adjoining yet separate townhouses to create a better space for "conscious coupling" which allows them to work harder on their marriage and commitment to each other. They made the move as an effort to allow some individuality but still be a united front when it comes to their commitment to their marriage and staying together.

February 2020 — Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick Star on Broadway Together

The showbiz stars paired up once more to do a show on Broadway in 2020! They reunited on stage together in Neil Simon's Plaza Suite play. SJP said of the experience in an article to the Hollywood Reporter, "I think we were more so thinking about the play, like, “How are we going to do this?” And I only thought about being concerned when people ask us, “Are you concerned that this is going to be harmful to your marriage?” And then I was worried. “Well, should we be?” We’ve never spent this much time together ever, even before we had kids." She later went on to say that despite it being strange to navigate that it was still a great experience to spend time together working!

December 2021 — Sarah Jessica Parker Premiers And Just Like That

And Just Like That, the show is back! SJP showed up in a stunning outfit with her sweet son and husband to support the return of her iconic show. She walked the carpet to celebrate her work with the two men in her life. It was a family affair!

Current Day — Still As In Love As Ever

While on Howard Stern's show recently, Sarah Jessica mentioned that her and Matthew Broderick haven't been apart since they met over 30 years ago. She said they have, "never spent a night apart since then, with the exception of work on location, or his mother was ill for a bit so he went to take care of her, but from that first night, we’ve never been apart.”

What else does she have to say about him after all these years? "It seems so silly, but I think you're very lucky if you like the person," she told People. "I still just really like him. I'm sure I annoy him and he annoys me, but I literally learn about him every day. I'm like, 'You're doing what? You're reading what?'

"I think marriage has a lot of vitality," she added. "If you're fortunate, it's like this dazzling organism."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves, SJP! This is a marriage that we are definitely still rooting for after all these years!

Emily Henry has been at the top of her game for quite a few years now, and she isn't slowing down anytime soon. In addition to a Beach Read movie, Book Lovers movie, and a Funny Story movie, we're getting ANOTHER movie based on her books: People We Meet On Vacation! (Seriously, Em, when do you sleep?)

The movie might take place in the summer, but Emily Henry is really set on making it as cozy as possible. "Nancy Meyers’ writing and directing is lovely, but her sets are what make you want to be inside of that movie," she tells Variety. "Same thing with Nora Ephron — it’s Nora Ephron’s New York, not quite real New York, and it feels so magical and aesthetic. When you have that feeling of the first nip of fall, you want to watch You’ve Got Mail. That’s something they all know I’m really big on.”

See Tom Blyth And Emily Bader On The Set Of 'People We Meet On Vacation'!

The very first thing I'm obligated to say here is that I just love a man in a white tee shirt. It's so simple and yet so hot. Anyway — Tom Blyth and Emily Bader were seen filming People We Meet On Vacation around New Orleans, which book fans will remember Alex describes as so hot and humid, it's like "being inside someone’s mouth” (gross, but fair). That totally explains Poppy's wild curls! I'm also digging her '70s disco chic outfit — colorful and kitschy is exactly how I always imagined her and I'm glad to see Netflix doing it justice.

...And See The First Leaks From Set!

I'm losing my mind over these set leaks from People We Meet On Vacation for one very specific reason — Tom Blyth and Emily Bader's outfits match the book cover! I'm thinking this is a scene from the very end of the movie (given the fact the kiss is giving "happy ending" vibes). It also answers a questions fans have had since the casting was announced: it looks like Emily is keeping her dark hair instead of dying it blonde!

Who's in the People We Meet On Vacation cast?

Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images/Vivien Killilea/Getty Images for Prime Video

We finally have the cast of People We Meet On Vacation! The movie will star My Lady Jane's Emily Bader as Poppy and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' Tom Blyth as Alex. The news was announced on August 2, 2024, and on September 18, we got more cast members!

Lucien Laviscount, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, and Lukas Gage have also joined the cast, although their roles are being kept under wraps for now. My guess is we'll see Jameela as Poppy's boss Swapna, Sarah as Alex's ex Sarah Torval, Lukas as Alex's brother David, and Lucien as Alex's future brother-in-law Tham.

Is People We Meet on Vacation getting a movie?

Amazon

Yes, we're getting a People We Meet On Vacation movie! Brett Haley will direct, while Yulin Kuang will write the script. Deadline confirmed the adaptation in October 2022.

When is the People We Meet On Vacation movie coming out?

Edward Eyer/Pexels

The People We Meet On Vacation movie is in the very early stages of pre-production, which makes me think we'll see it in 2026. Considering the story is all about two friends going on a vacation together, I think this could be the perfect summer movie — it might even become a cult classic we want to watch every year! Keep checking back here for the latest news on the movie's release date.

What is People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry about?

Travis Rupert/Pexels

This Emily Henry book follows ex-best friends Poppy and Alex, who used to take a vacation together every summer. That is, until their friendship suffers a serious blow. When Poppy starts feeling stuck in her own life, she reaches back out to Alex and gets him to agree to a final trip. Now, they have one last chance to repair their relationship before it's too late.

Are any other Emily Henry books being made into movies?

Amazon

Yes! Beach Read,Book Lovers, Happy Place, and Funny Story are also being adapted! These stories have such good relationships, characters, and settings that I cannot wait to see onscreen. I'll go anywhere Emily Henry goes!
