The 13 Best Thanksgiving Episodes To Rewatch Over And Over

friends thanksgiving episodes

Thanksgiving isn't just a food and family (or friends!)-filled day. It's also the official kickoff to the time of year made for staying in, cuddling up, and indulging in some quality downtime. Take a break from your favorite comfort movies and check out some of our favorite classic Thanksgiving episodes to keep you entertained and cozy this year and, hopefully, for years to come.

Image via Fox

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, "Thanksgiving" (Season 1): What better way to push control freak Amy Santiago's buttons than by having the dinner she planned for the precinct fall apart? Jake Peralta and Captain Holt are left out of the dinner to carry out an investigation, and it's an integral — and heartwarming — evolution of Jake's backstory and their bond. B99 has a history of excellent holiday eps, and this first-season gem is no exception.

Image via NBC

Friends, "The One With The Rumor" (Season 8):Friends and Thanksgiving episodes are a match made in heaven, and it's hard to pick a favorite. This pick features a masterful, hilarious performance from Jennifer Aniston's then-husband Brad Pitt as a vengeful ex-schoolmate of Rachel, Ross, and Monica. But we also *have* to mention "The One With All the Thanksgivings" (season 5), the episode where the gang bonds over their worst turkey days ever (complete with amazing flashbacks).

Image via ABC

Modern Family, "Punkin Chunkin" (Season 3): The Dunphy family shows their competitive streak once again in "Punkin Chunkin," one of the show's few Thanksgiving entries in the TV canon. The same stifling (and hilarious) dynamic rears its head between Phil and Claire and Mitch and Cam, who realizes that no one believes his oft-told story of chucking a pumpkin through a minister's car sunroof. The family storms away from Claire's dinner to head outside and make Cam try to prove it. Naturally, he dents Claire's car.

Image via Fox

The O.C., "Homecoming" (Season 1): In standard O.C. fashion, the Thanksgiving episode packed plenty of drama, with Ryan bringing Marissa back to Chino and dealing with his troubled family, and Seth inviting both Summer *and* Anna over for dinner. Oops.

Image via The CW/The WB

Gilmore Girls, "A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving" (Season 3): Even Lorelai and Rory Gilmore have trouble with all the food options before them when they have to pull off attending not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR Thanksgiving dinners: one at the Kim family's, where Lorelai is forced to eat Tofurkey; one at Luke's, where they're joined by Jess; one at Sookie's, where EVERYTHING is deep fried; and, of course, one at Emily and Richard's, where Rory reveals she has applied to Yale — which is certainly not Harvard.

Image via ABC

Grey’s Anatomy, "Thanks for the Memories" (Season 2): Even though Izzie plans a big staff Thanksgiving dinner at Meredith's, the difficulties that some people experience on the holidays become clear, as many of them make excuses not to help out with it or attend — a feeling all too real for many.

Image via NBC

Seinfeld, "The Mom and Pop Store" (Season 6): Even in its about-nothingness, Seinfeld fit in a nod to the stresses of the holidays — namely, is Jerry invited to his dentist Tim Whatley's Thanksgiving party along with the rest of the gang? In the end, he decides to crash the party in search of someone to help him out with some dental work, since no one is open for the holiday.

Image via Greg Gayne/Fox

New Girl, "Thanksgiving" (Season 1):New Girl takes its Thanksgiving episode output seriously, but its first edition of the yearly tradition is one of the most memorable. It's fun to look back on the early days of the group dynamic: Jess invites someone she has a crush on to their feast, but of course, the guys just want to make sure he's well suited to them. Classic.

Image via CBS

How I Met Your Mother, "Slapsgiving" (Season 3): Ah, the continuation of the slap bet and the first Slapsgiving. This episode marks Marshall and Lily's first married Thanksgiving, and she's obsessed with making it perfect. She even declares herself Slap Bet Commissioner to make sure Marshall and Barney's silly feud doesn't ruin it. Spoiler alert: It doesn't work.

Image via NBC

Parenthood, "Happy Thanksgiving" (Season 2): More than just a lip-service holiday episode, "Happy Thanksgiving" was a culmination of a lot of story lines on the season at that point — from Sarah's failing romance to Crosby's attempt to impress his future mother-in-law to Zeek's surrender of his attitude in favor of a nice holiday. Plus, it's just nice when the full Braverman family dynamic is on display for any reason.

Image via FX

It’s Always Sunny In Philidelphia, "The Gang Squashes Their Beefs" (Season 9): Why the gang decides to host every person they've ever had a beef with for Thanksgiving dinner is beyond any reasonable person's purview, but then again, they're hardly a reasonable crew. It (OBVIOUSLY) descends into chaos, not least of which includes a fire in Mac's room, and in the end, the gang abandons their foes inside the burning apartment. It's funny and perfect for the holiday in only the way this show could pull off.

Image via ABC

Full House, "The Miracle of Thanksgiving" (Season 1): Though the Netflix reboot Fuller House is super holiday-episode friendly, the Thanksgiving episode from the first season of the original series packed one of the biggest emotional punches in the show's history. It's the family's first Thanksgiving without Pam, the kids' mother and Danny Tanner's wife, and they're determined to make it a special one.

Gossip Girl, "Blair Waldorf Must Pie!" (Season 1): Some of the best Gossip Girl moments come during the Thanksgiving episodes, but Season 1's entry is in a league of its own. The present day drama (Lily and Rufus rekindle their romance! Serena and Dan are in love but *might* be siblings! Beautiful-but-boring Nate discovers his father is an embezzling addict!) is interspersed with sepia-toned flashbacks to the "old days" (aka one year prior, at the ripe age of 15) where we see multiple storylines begin to unfold: Dan meets Serena, and his obsession begins; and Blair's father meets his soon-to-be boyfriend, and eventually moves to France. The cozy vibes and character development are simply unmatched.

It's been a minute since we last saw our Southern Charm faves on screen, but they're finally back for season 10! From the Taylor-Shep-Olivia-Austen of it all to the gradual shift of Craig away from...everyone except Paige, a lot's happened since last year. And as if keeping up with all that wasn't enough, the trailer just dropped, and I have plenty of thoughts. So here's everything you should know from what to expect for season 10, who's returning, and when you can watch Southern Charm! Let's get into it!

Watch The 'Southern Charm' Trailer Here!

www.youtube.com

- YouTube
Here's every thought I had throughout the Southern Charm season 10 trailer!
  • The whole trailer starts off with Craig saying, “You can either accept the life that I live now, or not." That DEFINITELY sets the tone for the rest of this first look — and seemingly the rest of season 10.
  • Despite whatever drama may come, it's clear that Shep's inner child is alive and well. That "olly olly oxen free" and cannonball moment is soooo extremely him.
  • We're getting a group Bahamas trip! You know that can only mean one thing: DRAMA. Nothing changes the dynamic like being outside of Charleston!
  • There's a new girl in the group, named Molly! Apparently she "used to sext Craig," but she's " not trying to steal him from Paige or anything." Okay, sure Jan...
  • Taylor has a new boyfriend. Color me unsurprised!

Bravo

  • Excuse me, but Venita & JT?!?! IDK how to feel...
  • After Craig tells Patricia that JT called her a b--ch, Madison says, “He will be the b--ch when I’m done with him.” I mean, you really just don't go after Patricia — everyone knows that!
  • Every time Craig and Austen talk, it's clear they're exasperated with one another. Craig said, “Our friendship will never look like it used to." As much as I'm happy to see Craig setting clear boundaries with his friends, I'd definitely hate to see this bromance die. (Even though IDK if I'll ever forgive Austen for the Ciara of it all...)
  • And in another unsurprising update: Shep has a new girlfriend — and she's the former Miss Bahamas! According to Madison, she's a Southern Charm fan, so it seems like some people think she's just using him as pawn to get on the show. All I know is we eventually see Shep walking away dejected and saying, “I shouldn’t have done this.” YIKES.
  • And as predictable as the rain, of course there's drama with Shep, Taylor, and another woman — Salley. According to Salley, she and Shep slept together, and Taylor doesn't seem to take this well. She said, "I dated Shep for two years. Y'all just f----d!"
It's clear this southern faves have no shortage of drama to pull from yet again...

Who's returning for 'Southern Charm' season 10?

Bravo

Our charmers Venita Aspen, Leva Bonaparte, Craig Conover, Taylor Ann Green, Austen Kroll, Madison LeCroy, Rodrigo Reyes, Shep Rose, and Jarrett “JT” Thomas are all set to return for season 10! Patricia Altschul and her son Whitney Sudler-Smith will also appear throughout the season — because it wouldn't be Southern Charm without this duo, TBH!

While JT will be back for this season, he just announced season 10 will be his last. He announced his impending departure in an Instagram post, writing, "It comes with a heavy heard to share that I have resigned from Southern Charm." He continued, explaining that he won't participate in his "2-3 remaining green room interviews remaining" before the season 10 premiere. He said, "...I no longer wish to participate in any ways moving forward with the TV show." After the bombshell, JT elaborated that he's going to "work on next steps to recover both physically and mentally from what has been an extremely challenging & exhausting year."

Needless to say, this is extremely shocking! Most of the drama outlined in the trailer revolves around Craig, Austen, and Shep, but it's clear there's way more to this story. We'll for sure keep an eye out for more details as this continues to unfold.

One face we're sad to see gone is Olivia Flowers. In regards to leaving the show, she told Scheana Shay on Scheananigans, "It wasn't my choice." Apparently producers told her the decision came because she seemed estranged from the Charleston scene, often traveling, spending time in Texas, and connecting with her new boyfriend. And while that may have bothered her at the time, it's clear that Olivia doesn't have time to worry about all that given her recent engagement to Alex Williams.

Are there any new cast members for 'Southern Charm' season 10?

This season, we're getting a few newcomers to Charleston! Salley Carson is "a bubbly party girl by night and a robotics technician for surgical procedures by day. The debutante is gorgeous, intelligent, and independent, and she shares a curiously parallel romantic past with Taylor." Yeah, that definitely spells trouble in Shep-ville. Outside of the social scene, her bio reads that Salley works in spinal robotics — nothing short of impressive there! I can't wait to see what this brainy beauty adds to the group!

Molly O’Connell also joins season 10 after apparently showing up in the background of previous seasons for years. So while she's new to the show, she's definitely been a friend of the group for a while. Still, this isn't Molly's first foray into TV — she was on America's Next Top Model in 2010 and continued her modeling career for years afterwards. On top of all that? She's also appeared as a charter guest on Below Deck. Clearly, this girl was made for the screen!

Ryan Albert hops on board this season as a friend of Patricia's — because who doesn't this woman know in Charleston?! According to Bravo, he's a stay-at-home-husband who volunteers — and hosts parties — in his free time.

When does 'Southern Charm' season 10 come out?

Bravo

Southern Charm season 10 premieres Thursday, Dec. 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT! I'll be tuned in with rosé in-hand and mouth agape!

Last year, some of us celebrated the holidays apart from our families for the first time. COVID has brought with it many changes, some of them arguably positive (like increased flexibility to work from home), some difficult (such as the realization of vastly different political and social views between family and friends), and some horrible (obviously, the health implications of a global pandemic). However, for some of us, celebrating the holidays without family members isn't exclusively due to COVID. In addition to so many of us living in different areas than our families of origin, some of us simply don't have close bonds with the people we grew up around. Sometimes, this can cause loneliness.

If you're not close with your family members, the holidays can be a difficult time. This is doubly true if you don't have a close circle of friends to call upon. But make no mistake, if this sounds like your situation, you're not alone — there are thousands of other people going through the same struggles you are. We sat down with Irad Eichler, founder of Circles, a website that connects people who are sharing similar struggles, like heartbreak, grief, or loneliness. Here are some of Eichler's tips for coping — and even thriving! — during the holiday season when you're not planning on spending it with your family, for one reason or another.

Don't Fall For "Perfect Families" On Social Media

Laura Chouette

The first VERY important step to having a joyous holiday season when you're going it alone is to stop believing the narrative that others' family situations are perfect, Eichler says.

"Remember people only post a moment in time, and only the moments when they look their happiest and best."

In addition to the fact that everything you see on social media is curated for the 'gram, it's also important to remember that by focusing on what others have and you lack, you risk failing to see the great things at play in your own life.

"These holiday periods can become a time of focusing on who and what we don't have, rather than who or what we do, and can cause a negative spiral into depressing and dreadful feelings of inadequacy," says Eichler.

Gratitude is the reason for the season, after all. So instead of only seeing the negative, try some gratitude journal prompts to help you focus on what's actually really wonderful about your life right now.

Make An Effort To Deepen New Connections

Joel Muniz

While it may seem like everyone has friends and family to spend time with during the holiday season, that doesn't mean no one is available for deepening a blossoming relationship or new friendship.

"Make a list of people you can or would like to connect with, and try to reach out to at least one of them," advises Eichler.

Reaching out doesn't have to mean a big plan or an hour-long conversation. Even a quick text letting a friendly coworker know you're thinking about them can go a long way toward deepening the relationship and moving it in the direction of closer friendship.

Don't have an acquaintance in mind? Then it's time to make new acquaintances. What's more in line with the Christmas spirit than attending a Meetup or event full of people eager to make new friends?

"Join groups with similar interests to yours, such as hiking, baking, or games. Push your boundaries and be brave - you might find new people who have much in common with you."

Give Back

Priscilla Du Preez

The holiday season is a great time to focus on giving back to your community, and coincidentally, acts of generosity and kindness are known to reduce loneliness and help people feel happier. One study found that knowing a few of your neighbors and doing small acts of kindness for them — such as cheering them up, listening to them, mowing their lawn, providing advice about local business recommendations and job opportunities, and chatting over the fence — was statistically correlated with feeling less lonely and having a lower risk of depression.

Helping out elderly neighbors can be a particularly gratifying way to give back.

"Notice older lonely people in your neighborhood or community who might have no family at all, and offer to help them," says Eichler. "These can become mutually meaningful connections, and help you 'adopt' a grandparent."

Connect With Others Online

Thought Catalog

Finally, use the Internet for its highest and best purpose: to connect people. Whether you're using Meetup to find in-person events, digital forums for having conversations about special interests, or programs like Circle for getting support from others in your situation, the opportunities to create new connections are practically endless.

"There are many interest groups that can be found digitally, where or any person can connect with others in the same life stage, going through the same challenges, or who would like to explore the same interests," Eichler states. "Meaningful connections can be formed easily in these circumstances. The Internet enables us to find and connect to people all over the world who fit this, and to whom we can become more easily attached, as we are able to find people with the exact interests that energize us."

Harry, Ron, and Hermione may be the iconic trio of the Harry Potter series on screen, but in real life, it’s Hermione and Draco whose friendship has stood the test of time. Emma Watson and Tom Felton have the kind of relationship songwriters could get inspo from forever. Over the years, they’ve been childhood friends, co-stars, each other’s unrequited crushes, and self-proclaimed soulmates.

Emma and Tom met while filming the first Harry Pottermovie and have remained super close since. They see each other frequently IRL and often treat fans to pictures of them hanging out outside of Hogwarts. Here’s a timeline of Dramione’s — err, I mean, Emma and Tom’s — cutest friendship moments.

2000 — Emma Watson & Tom Felton meet while filming Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Emma Watson is the youngest member of the main HP cast. When Sorcerer’s Stone began filming, the actress was nine years old and madly in love with Tom. You can only imagine why the 12-year-old actor didn’t feel the same. “For the first two movies, I had a huge crush on Tom Felton. He was my first crush,” Emma revealed to Seventeen. “He totally knows. We talked about it — we still laugh about it. We are really good friends now, and that’s cool.”

Warner Bros.

2003 to 2011 — Tom helps Emma navigate fame as they film Harry Potter

The older and therefore wiser (at least, that’s what they say) Tom Felton took Emma Watson under his wing while filming the Harry Potter movies. According to producer David Heyman, around the time they were filming Prisoner of Azkaban and becoming some of the most recognizable kids in the world, Emma struggled to come to terms with her celebrity status. Cue Tom Felton.

“We were filming Hagrid’s lesson with the Hippogriff. Tom and Emma were really friendly, and Tom really encouraged Emma to engage with the fans in the way that she hadn’t. It was like she needed someone, a friend, to go on that [journey] with her. They were all looking out for each other,” David said.

Tom and Emma's friendship got stronger with each Potter flick they filmed. “I became very protective over her,” Tom said during the Harry Potter reunion special. “I’ve always had a soft spot for her, and that continues to the day.”

2017 — Tom Felton supports Emma Watson at the Beauty and the Beast premiere.

Hermione isn’t the only brunette bookworm Watson’s played; she also starred as Belle in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Unlike his fellow Harry Potter alum Matthew Lewis, Felton didn’t walk the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere, but he was photographed at the event.

2018 — Emma Watson & Tom Felton hang out in LA

Tom and Emma truthers know exactly where they were the day Emma casually dropped this now-iconic post of her and Tom together on the California coast on Instagram. Tom moved to LA in 2012 after wrapping the Potter series, but it would take more than an ocean to keep him away from Emma. In the post, you can watch the pair tease each other as they share a skateboard.

January 2022 — Tom and Emma speak candidly about their friendship during the Harry Potter reunion special.

Tom Felton and Emma Watson reunited once again for HBO Max’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special. Watson went into detail about her childhood crush on Felton, saying that she “fell in love” with him when he drew God as a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. She also confirmed that nothing romantic has ever happened between them. “We just love each other,” she said.

October 2022 — Emma writes the foreword to Tom’s book.

Tom Felton's memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, is chock full of Harry Potter references that’ll make even the meanest Muggles smile, but the best Harry Potter Easter egg is on the first page. Emma Watson wrote a super sweet foreword for the book (an apt choice given that she studied English lit in college). In it, she gushes over Tom’s kindness and even says they’re "soulmates." Read the whole thing for yourself here!

“I love Emma so much,” Felton tells Elle Australia. “And I think, I know she loves me. She was the first person to read the earliest drafts of the book, and she was very kind to volunteer and write the forward for it, which I’m forever grateful for.”

October 22, 2024 – Zach Bryan Announces His Breakup With Brianna Chickenfry

On October 22, 2024, after some recent speculation that Zach Bryan and Brianna Chickenfry split up, Zach took to his Instagram stories. The country star said, "Addressing something: Brianna and me have broken up with [each other] and I respect and love her with every ounce of my heart. She has loved me unconditionally for a very long time and for that I'll always thank her."

He continued, noting, "I have had an incredibly hard year personally and struggled through some pretty severe things. I thought it would be beneficial for both of us to go our different ways. I am not perfect and never will be. Please respect Brianna's privacy and space in this and if you have it in your heart, mine too."

To wrap it all up, he closed by apologizing to his fans. He said, "With everything I am and to anyone I let down, I am sorry. I try my best in everything. I failed people that love me and mostly myself."

Brianna hopped on her own Instagram stories shortly there after. She posted, "Hey guys I'm feeling really blindsided right now. Gonna hop off social media for a while and attempt to heal privately, when I'm ready I'll be back and ready to talk. I love you guys so much thank you for all of your kind words. Remember you are so loved and everything's always gonna be okay 🫶"

The Brianna got on Youtube next, posting a raw, emotional video about the situation. Sitting on the floor of her bathroom, she opened up as much as she could in the moment about her breakup. She said, "I just woke up to Zach posting on his Instagram that we broke up and I had no idea that post was going up. He didn't text me, he didn't call me. I just woke up to a bunch of texts, like, 'Are you okay?'"

Brianna, with her teary eyes and red face, explained she's been crying for "five days straight." She said, "I'm at the point where it's like, how can you give someone everything and love them so unconditionally, like through stuff that you shouldn't because you just love them and you want them... like you see the good in them?"

The internet personality said that this is all "so embarrassing" and "really, really heartbreaking." She elaborated that the couple broke up on October 21, but wanted to process on her own and "didn't want it to be public."

Much like her Instagram story, she told her audience that she'll come back when she's ready.

November 7, 2024 — Brianna Claims Zach's Emotionally Abusive, Wanted $12Mil NDA

Well, it appears this week, Brianna decided she's ready. On Barstool Sports' BFF's Pod November 7, 2024, Brianna gave an inside look at the breakup unlike any other. Not only did she claim Zach was abusive, but she also alleged that he offered her a $12 million NDA to "not talk about the relationship."

After saying it's been the hardest year of her life, she said. "I'm still scared right now because I'm scared of him. My brain's rewired and I'm scared to make him mad and last week, I didn't want to talk about it 'cause I was scared."

Brianna then described the alleged emotional abuse. She noted that everything was cyclical and that he would build her up only to break her back down again. "There was always another excuse as to why he was treating me so poorly and why I'm crying myself to sleep every night, why he's screaming at me," she said. "And then you wake up, it's the apology, it's the 'I'm going to be better like I need you in my life,' but if you've been through this — I don't expect people to understand emotional abuse if you haven't been through it. I hope you never have to go through it but if you've been there you know what I'm talking about."

Not only does Brianna allege she was offered an NDA, but she said that other women that came before her had to sign their own agreements. She declined the offer because she didn't want to "sign away [her] experiences and what [she] went through to protect someone that hurt [her]." She also wanted to share this experience for other women who've suffered something similar.

And when it comes to the logistics of losing out on the famous lifestyle and alleged $12 million? She said, "It was never about the money — I was with the dude because I loved the dude."

November 8, 2024 — Zach Quit Touring Amid Abuse Allegations

On November 8, 2024, Zach posted on Instagram — where he clearly loves to share all his big news — that not only is his new single "High Road" out today, but that he's also ending his tour early. Read his full statement here:

After not being home for a year and a half I drove out to my mothers gravestone in the dead of night a few days back on familiar Oklahoma roads and I came to realize just like in the past, that she never would call me again

Told her I quit touring because I got accepted to get my masters in Paris next year, I told her I was back in Oklahoma, told her about all my best friends in New York and all the nights we howled with the moon, told her about the immeasurable laughter my band and me have shared these last five years, all the calluses on my finger tips, every tear shed, told her about making it on The Rolling Stone and most importantly told her about porch swinging with my beautiful sister.
I wrote the chorus for this song a month or two back and finished it when I realized I was blessed with all these things.

I figured it was about time I released it.

Thank you guys for listening to ‘This Worlds a Giant’ last night and thank you to all the people who love me; who have truly carried the weight with me.

Seems that all these Quiet Dreams have gotten much too heavy but I’m home now and I’ll hold you through the pain.

High Road is out today and I appreciate all of you"
