‘Blue Valentine’ Is Coming to Netflix in July 2018

Rom-coms are great, but every once in a while, it’s good to see something other than a perfect happy ending. Enter: Blue Valentine, which Brit + Co can exclusively reveal as one of the many titles coming to Netflix in July 2018.

The 2010 drama stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams as Dean and Cindy, a couple whose once-loving marriage has eroded under the strain of financial problems and Dean’s drinking. The movie charts their romance from its earliest, most hopeful beginnings through its rocky dissolution, showing that sometimes love doesn’t conquer all.

Director Derek Cianfrance asked the actors to fully immerse themselves in the film, to the point where Gosling and Williams actually lived together (during the day) for about a month. They “celebrated fake Christmas and put up Christmas trees, and baked birthday cakes and bought birthday presents, and went to Sears,” Gosling told Fresh Air in 2010. “We fought all day, and then we’d have to take [our characters’ daughter] Faith to the family fun park … whatever we could do to create real memories, so when it came time to shoot the [last] part of the film, we were drawing on real memories.”

At times, the memories were almost too real. “Most movies, you have to try and forget you’re making a movie, because there are trailers and booms and lights and marks, and it’s everywhere,” he recalled. “And with this, you’re trying to remember that it is a movie, because it’s so easy to get lost in it.”

Both Gosling and Williams earned Golden Globe nominations for their performances in the film. Williams later earned an Oscar nomination, too.

Blue Valentine debuts on Netflix on July 5. Check back on Wednesday, June 20, for the full list of movies, TV shows, and originals hitting the streaming service next month.

Netflix is feeding us y'all. In addition to rom-coms like Nobody Wants This is ranch romances like Ransom Canyon, the streamer's latest political thriller Zero Day has everyone on the edge of their seats. And considering when the show premiered on February 20, it debuted at number 2 on Netflix's Top 10 list (and got 19.1 million views), I do mean everyone.

The show follows a former American president (played by Robert De Niro), who's tapped to lead an investigation into recent cyber attacks and disasters around the US. This is one political thriller you won't want to miss.

Here are 5 reasons Robert De Niro's Zero Day should be your next Netflix binge.

1. 'Zero Day' is full of tension and twists.

Netflix

One thing's for sure: Zero Day is anything but boring. One X user calls it "easy, fast paced" and "entertaining," and from the cyber attacks and disasters themselves to the blackmail and conspiracy that follows, you'll be locked in the whole time.

2. Angela Bassett plays a female president, hello!

Netflix

I love Netflix's commitment to giving us female POTUS's (both in Zero Day and in The Night Agent!), and Angela Bassett absolutely stuns as President Evelyn Mitchell. She brings depth to every scene she's in, and I can't wait until we have a woman lead the country IRL.

3. Robert De Niro commands the screen.

Netflix

Robert De Niro is the best person to play George Mullen, and he is an absolute powerhouse in every single episode. "He owns every scene he is in," one X user writes. "He makes the show worth watching. If you don't watch the entire series, I would still recommend watching the last episode, it is very powerful."

4. The rest of the 'Zero Day' cast is phenomenal.

Netflix

In addition to Angela Bassett and Robert De Niro, the Zero Day cast also includes Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, McKinley Belcher III, and Matthew Modine — all of whom give incredible performances. Literally say no more.

5. It's timely.

Netflix

Okay, seeing nationwide disasters on TV might make you feel more anxious than relaxed, but Netflix viewers simply cannot stop talking about how timely Zero Day feels. At its core, entertainment's purpose is to reflect the world around us, and make us think, and Zero Day is no exception...although if you want to turn on your favorite Disney Channel episode when you're done binge watching, I wouldn't blame you.

I always get excited when I think about how many celebrity couples we don't know about yet. Glen Powell & Lily James generated some buzz when they hopped into a car together ahead of the BAFTAs, and Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline & Austin Butler (yes, Elvis himself) were just spotted out and about together. Let's dive in, shall we?

Here's everything we know about those Madelyn Cline & Austin Butler dating rumors.

Madelyn Cline & Austin Butler were allegedly spotted grabbing a meal.

"Seriously just saw Madelyn Cline and Austin Butler" at a celebrity-frequented restaurant in Los Angeles, a DeuxMoi source said at the end of January. One Instagram user commented that since Madelyn and Austin's exes (Pete Davidson and Kaia Gerber) are exes, "dating in Hollywood is 3 degrees of separation."

However, according to another DeuxMoi source, fans have been paying attention to Madelyn's Instagram activity. The actress previously dated her Outer Banks costar Chase Stokes, and has allegedly been liking posts about "the one that got away," and even posted on her Instagram story that she deserves happiness.

"The timing of Chase's relationship doing so great and her having a string of failed relationships, people are just assuming she's crashing out," the second source continues. Yikes, y'all.

I think it's so fascinating how fans allegedly jump to the conclusion that Madelyn is crashing out, and assume Austin (who is also recently single) is totally fine post-breakup. Listen, a girl can go on a few dates without spiraling, dating really doesn't have to be that serious. It's supposed to be fun!

It's also totally in the realm of possibility that they were having a business meeting. For now, we don't really know. But what I do know? Madelyn Cline and Austin Butler would make a cute couple, and even if they don't end up in a relationship, a delicious dinner and maybe a smooch or two never hurt anybody ;).

We're in serious pursuit of something to fill the Yellowstone-sized hole in our hearts (aside from 1923 season 2, of course). And thankfully, Netflix's new showRansom Canyon is shaping up to be the perfect addition to our watchlist. Consider it My Life With The Walter Boys with a little more edge and less "I'm stuck in a love triangle with two brothers."

Here's everything you need to know about Ransom Canyon, coming to Netflix this April.

'Ransom Canyon' promises "it's not too late."

Netflix

Based on Jodi Thomas' book of the same name, Ransom Canyon is about to be your new romance obsession. The 10-episode drama examines three ranching families in Texas, and how their lives intersect.

We have Staten, a rancher dealing with secrets and trouble — just like the beautiful Quinn, who's harboring secrets of her own. Lucas wants a different life than that of a rancher, until a single decision changes everything. And Yancy just wants to use everyone in Ransom Canyon for his own gain. But even this criminal isn't ready for what's coming.

It's giving Yellowstone obviously, but it's also totally reminding me of Friday Night Lights thanks to the football and all the juicy drama. According to the trailer, the canyon "gives us all something to be happy about," and the show will tackle legacy, land, and love. Yeah...I'm tuning in and you can too when the episodes premiere April 17, 2025 on Netflix.

The 'Ransom Canyon' cast also includes some fan favorite actors.

Anna Kooris/Netflix

Yeah, the Ransom Canyon cast is absolutely stacked. We'll see Josh Duhamel as Staten, Minka Kelly as Quinn, James Brolin as Cap, Eoin Macken as Davis, Lizzy Greene as Lauren, Marianly Tejada as Ellie, Jack Schumacher as Yancy, Garrett Wareing as Lucas, and Andrew Liner as Reid. Jennifer Ens, Niko Guardado, Casey W. Johnson, Philip Winchester, Kate Burton, Brett Cullen, Tatanka Means, Jaren Robledo, Justin Johnson Cortez, and Kenneth Miller also star.

Here's when you can watch Ransom Canyon.

Ransom Canyon premieres on Netflix April 17, and will have 10 episodes total. I can't wait to tune in! For now, watch the trailer here!

Not only is Blake Lively speaking out about the "sexist" commentary on her legal battle with Justin Baldoni, she's also enlisting the help of...the CIA? Yes, you read that right. The actress just recruited an ex-CIA advisor to help with her case ahead of the March 2026 trial. Wow.

Here's what we know about Blake Lively's latest move in her legal battle with Justin Baldoni.

Blake Lively just involved an ex-CIA advisor in her case.

Blake Lively has enlisted Nick Shapiro, former CIA deputy chief of staff and senior advisor John Brennan (the former director), to help with her case, according to Page Six and Variety.

“The litigation team for Ms. Lively retained Mr. Shapiro to advise on the legal communications strategy for the ongoing sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit occurring in the Southern District of New York,” Blake Lively's lawyers said in a statement.

This proves more than anything else that Blake is taking the trial really seriously because this is a major move on her part.

Recently, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni actually agreed on something when they spoke out against the "violent" messages Blake and her loved ones have been receiving.

Blake's legal team requested a stronger protection order (PO), considering Blake, "her family, other members of the cast, various fact witnesses, and individuals that have spoken out publicly in support of Ms. Lively have received violent, profane, sexist, and threatening communications" (as the request states), "good cause exists for the Court to adopt the Proposed PO."

And Justin's legal team went on the record, saying they "do not condone dangerous rhetoric targeted toward anyone no matter the situation. Anyone receiving violent messages by anonymous parties is abhorrent."

“When private parties were wrongfully accused by Lively and her paid team of wrongdoing, they received continuous death threats and visits to private homes where young children reside after their addresses were leaked on her initial complaints," they continue. "No one should have to face that, especially private parties who do not have means for security detail. We do not condone dangerous rhetoric targeted toward anyone no matter the situation.”
