13 Classy Ways to Pull Off Boho Style at Work

Pulling together an outfit that complies with dress code and honors your personal style is a never-ending battle. But boring, stuffy and strict your workweek wardrobe need not be — with a bit of know-how and clever styling, almost any item in your closet can be transformed into a killer on-the-job ensemble. You’ve already mastered the art of wearing the athleisure trend to work, so why not give your nine-to-five a taste of your free-spirited side too? While all-out festival style is best saved for the main stage, there are plenty of HR-approved ways to show off your free-wheelin’ side. Floral skirts, skinny scarfs, all suede everything and frilly, feminine tops can easily be styled with more traditional pieces to create elegant outfits that are ready for business. These 13 accessories and separates bring the boho vibes you love, but won’t draw side glances from the boss.

1. Stella & Dot Totem Tassel Chandelier Earrings ($59): Details, details, details. Even if your dress code leaves little room for interpretation, these four-in-one earrings (hello, versatility) will instantly inject major personality into stuffy suits and streamlined separates.

2. Free People Novella Royale Iris Printed Crop Flare ($148): Tailored trousers are a workweek staple, but when your everyday uniform starts to feel meh, these printed flares will switch things up stat. Unexpected and on trend, they’ve got that whole office-appropriate thing on lock when styled alongside a frilly-neck blouse and block-heeled loafers or a minimalist roll neck tunic.

3. Waverly Grey Gemma Fringe Vest ($168): Say buh-bye to boring blazers, because this fabulous fringe vest is ready to take your on-the-job wardrobe by storm. Perfect for layering over silk tees and structured culottes, it’ll make warm-weather dressing (office edition) an effortless exercise. Cold temps still a thing? Pop it on top of a cashmere turtleneck for a chic look in seconds.

4. Street Level Faux Leather Tote ($56): Because your fave festival-ready sac isn’t exactly office material, stash all of your workweek essentials — laptop, documents, snacks (!) — in this sophisticated tote instead. The dramatic fringe speaks to your free-wheelin’ side, but will more than live up to your #girlboss expectations.

5. Zara Long Printed Skirt ($70): Feminine florals and a flowy silhouette capture the carefree feel of lazy summer days we just can’t get enough of. Midi and maxi styles are ideal for the office, especially when teamed with lace-up booties, architectural tops and minimalist jewelry.

6. Mango Suede Jacket ($270): If your cubicle renders you an ice cube on the daily, a stylin’ outer layer is non-negotiable — cardigans excluded. This suede number packs a major punch and will help make the chills a thing of the past. Whether you rock it over printed wide-leg trousers or a ribbed midi dress and Oxfords, it won’t disappoint.

7. Kelsi Dagger London Sandals ($160): Brilliant color, supple suede and an on-trend slingback silhouette: These lace-up sandals are a triple threat. Swap ’em in for basic pumps and watch as the compliments roll in.

8. ASOS Premium Embroidered Sleeve Tassel Tie Dress ($119): Classic shifts and fit-and-flare frocks don’t have anything on this free-flowing embroidered dress. The elongated style and statement sleeves combine forces for a look that balances on-the-job elegance and eclectic-chic aesthetics, and your nine-to-five will never be the same. To tone down the boho vibes, style it up with an obi belt, shimmery drop earrings and polished steppers.

9. Free People Wave of Innocence Printed Top ($128): Take your workweek wardrobe out West with a prairie floral top with flirty, feminine appeal. A ruffled neckline feels so right-now, while statement embroidery adds an extra layer of country charm and drama. Tuck it into leather pants and flatform kicks for a girl-next-door-gone-bad edge.

10. Topshop Mini Floral Skinny Scarf ($22): When you’re not feeling the bling, this ditsy floral scarf is the adornment you need. Languidly draped around the neck, it imparts a French bohemian vibe to collared shirts and LBDs alike. Fiery red lipstick is strongly encouraged.

11. Cloth & Stone Lace-Up Henley ($98): Collared shirts aren’t the only way to keep your cool when you’re on the clock. This lace-up henley has undeniable throwback flair that pairs perfectly with suede culottes and A-line skirts. The only thing missing? Casually cool clogs and a blue lapis cuff (trust us on this one).

12. Boohoo Embroidered Pocket A Line Skirt ($32): Casual Friday isn’t just for jeans. Switch up your dressy-casual duds by throwing this folksy skirt into the mix. Bow-neck tops, ribbed sweaters and amped-up court shoes are highly encouraged.

13. Nasty Gal Petal Down Embroidered Chambray Shirt ($148): The easiest way to get your denim fix before the weekend rolls around? This flowery chambray top. The folk-art appeal of the botanical embroidery will put your basic white button-down to shame, adding personality and no-frills polish to silk joggers and high-waisted skirts.

Workwear is always evolving, and you may not realize that some once-popular office outfitstaples are starting to feel a little… outdated. From stiff shoulder pads to dramatic bell bottoms and more, these 6 “outdated” workwear trends have long been replaced by more modern alternatives. If your work wardrobe could use a refresh, it’s time to ditch these retro pieces.

Scroll on for the top 6 “outdated” workwear trends you should stop wearing to the office – plus some stylish suggestions on what to wear instead.

Urban Outfitters

1. Shoulder pads

Once a power-dressing staple of the 1980s, oversized shoulder pads are no longer considered chic, and we rarely see them on anyone these days.

The exaggerated look that shoulder pads gave may have been stylish in decades past, but nowadays, blazers and jackets with subtle shoulder structuring (or even a baggy fit) are more flattering and appropriate for the office.

Free People

2. Bell bottoms

Bell bottoms are awesome, but there’s truly a time and place for them if you’re going to be sporting them in the present day – and it’s not during work hours! Popular in the ‘70s, bell bottom pants created a dramatic flare that isn’t always practical or professional.

Their exaggerated shape can feel too retro or even too casual for modern work settings. Perhaps save your flares for a friendly happy hour or disco-themed party!

Lululemon

3. Pleated trousers

Pleatedtrousersare another “outdated” workwear trend we’re happy aren’t popular anymore. Many older trouser styles were excessively baggy and did nothing to flatter your silhouette. Plus, the dramatic pleat was just so extra.

Free People

4. Frilly tie-front blouses

Frilly tie-front blouses could be seen at just about every woman’s desk back in the day, but these ultra-femme tops are simply too busy and overly decorative for today's workwear trends. While cute, they’re not necessarily streamlined for the professional look.

Instead, workers are wearing elevated basics and layering them with tailored blazers or cardigans!

Quince

5. Pencil skirts

We definitely favor any kind of skirt over a pencil skirt, mostly because they can be extremely tight and restrict any movement.

Too short (or too long) pencil skirts might have been poppin’ in the ‘70s and ‘80s, but now they’re downright inappropriate for a professional setting. Try a midi slip skirt or maxi pleated style to stay chic these days!

Amazon

6. Oversized glasses

Oversized glasses are iconic if you’re making a modern fashion statement – but that’s not exactly warranted in the office. While large, chunky glasses were trendy in the ‘70s, they can drown out your face and appear outdated, especially in a corporate setting.

For every beloved Starbucks item, there’s one that’s equally disliked. Whether they’re menu mainstays or have disappeared forever, Starbucks baristas and customers have some very strong opinions about the many menu items the chain's released over the years. This Reddit thread in particular details the discontinued Starbucks items that fans of The ‘Bux miss “the least” – AKA ones they were more than happy to say goodbye to.

Whether baristas were irked by the process of making them, their general flavor, or customers’ reception of ‘em, these discontinued Starbucks items departed from menus with a sincere “good riddance.”

Scroll on to discover 6 of the “least missed” discontinued Starbucks menu items, according to seasoned baristas.

@Starbucks on Instagram

1. Cloud Macchiato

Launched in collaboration with Ariana Grande back in 2019, the Starbucks Cloud Macchiato featured a fluffy, meringue-like foam topping made by blending nonfat milk, vanilla syrup, and a “cloud powder.” It was available to order in two familiar flavors: caramel and cinnamon.

Several Starbucks baristas noted that they simply did not care for making it, especially because the included cloud powder contained egg. This frustrated many plant-based customers, as the drink couldn’t possibly be made fully vegan.

“Was more annoying to make than anything,” one barista commented on Reddit. “Also they didn’t [really] advertise that it contained egg.”

“Tasted foul, irritating to make, having to explain that it cannot be made vegan (thanks Ariana…), and if it was mobile ordered you were almost guaranteed to receive a deflated cup of disappointment and regret,” another user said.

Starbucks

2. Spicy Refreshers

I got to get a first taste of Starbucks’ Spicy Refreshers when they dropped during the summer of 2024. Admittedly, I didn't think they’d be that good, especially because at the time, it seemed like the chain was grasping at straws to retain their fan base. At the same time the spice-infused Refreshers launched, Starbucks also debuted their (short-lived) boba, and it was just wild. There was also a Spicy Cream Cold Foam included in the launch.

Out of the three Refresher flavors available (dragonfruit, strawberry, and pineapple), the pineapple one tasted the best. The trio turned out to be pretty hit or miss, and lots of fans and baristas agreed.

“Those spicy drinks feel like a fever dream,” one person wrote on Reddit. “Genuinely forgot we had those and forgot how horrible they were.”

Funnily enough, many more people weighed in and said the now-discontinued drinks were only tasty with a shot of tequila included. Fair enough!

Starbucks

3. Oleato (Olive Oil) Drinks

Introduced in January of 2024, Starbucks’ first-of-its-kind Oleato beverages were crafted using extra virgin olive oil. The chain promised a “luxurious and next-level” flavor, but these drinks ended up totally bombing. Many customers and baristas reportednot being able to drink them whatsoever, or simply feeling sick if they did sip ‘em down.

"The barista refunded me after she saw me spit it back into the cup," this Redditor said.

"At my location, NOBODY likes the olive oil," another person noted. "Not even us baristas, it’s disgusting honestly."

Reddit

4. Unicorn Frappuccino

Oh, lord. This discontinued Starbucks drink from 2017 truly needs to be studied. Available for a limited time, the Unicorn Frappuccino went viral for its “flavor-shifting, color-changing" qualities. It was crafted with an insane lineup of ice, milk, pink powder, sour blue powder, crème syrup, mango syrup, and sour blue drizzle – this massive load of sugar concerned plenty of people, too.

A former partner on Reddit verified that the reception of the so-called "famed" Unicorn Frappuccino wasn't all that it was cracked up to be:

"I think the worst part for me was, although it looked cool/pretty, it tasted absolutely horrible," they wrote. "If I recall correctly, it was the thick mango syrup, white chocolate, and some sour blue drizzle. I would say at least half of the customers who actually managed to get one from my store would return them half-full saying it was ‘disgusting’. And honestly, I agreed."

“If you were working in 2014-15, you get 'Nam flashbacks when anyone mentions unicorns or mermaids," another barista commented.

Starbucks

5. Toasted Vanilla Syrup

Discontinued at the end of 2023 for being generally unpopular, Starbucks' Toasted Vanilla syrup wasn’t quite well-received by baristas.

“That toasted vanilla smelled like every middle school mean girl ever, and it tastes like butt,” one person commented.

“Can’t believe I completely blocked the toasted vanilla out of my memory,” another said. “Sh-t was so nasty.”

Ashley Burk

6. Kiwi Starfruit Refresher

Crafted with green coffee extract, ice, and kiwi pieces, the long-gone Starbucks Kiwi Starfruit Refresher hit menus in 2020, but sadly fell off in favor of other Refresher flavors like pineapple and blackberry. Several Starbucks baristas were happy to see it go since it tasted so bad.

“I remember making it when I was training and thinking, ‘this shit smells like battery acid.,’” someone commented.

"Even filming it was humiliating, because it was this flood of remembering that you are not good enough," actress Fiona Dourif toldVariety. Mostly, it’s just utter humiliation that it is happening in front of everybody."

Who's in The Pitt cast?

Warrick Page/Max

The Pitt cast is a true standout on TV this year, and the list includes:

  • Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch: a senior member of the staff who's trying to keep his head above water.
  • Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay: a 42-year-old second-year resident at the ER.
  • Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker: a fourth-year medical student working with the Pitt team.
  • Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins: an ER senior resident who often clashes with Robby.
  • Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans: the ER's charge nurse.
  • Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon: an ER senior resident and Robby's right hand.
  • Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa "Mel" King: another second-year resident.
  • Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos: a confident intern in the ER.
  • Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan: one of the ER's third-year residents.
  • Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi: a 20-year-old third-year medical student.

Where did The Pitt film?

Warrick Page/Max

The Pitt was mainly filmed on a soundstage in Burbank, California, but some of the exterior shots were taken in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! The show filmed in 2024, and the cast was spotted in Pittsburgh in September 2024.

Will there be a season 2 of The Pitt?

Warrick Page/Max

Yes, The Pitt season 2 is coming to Max! “We’re excited and delighted with the audience response for our first season of THE PITT and can’t be more appreciative of our partners at Max and Warner Bros. Television for all of their extraordinary support throughout our first season," John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, and Noah Wyle said in a statement.

Is The Pitt a sequel to ER?

Warrick Page/Max

The Pitt isn't officially an ER sequel (despite the fact lead actor Noah Wyle was on the 90s drama). However, members of the estate of late author Michael Crichton (who wrote the OG screenplay for ER) alleged The Pitt was created as a sequel, without their permission. And the estate sued the creators of The Pitt in August 2024, according to TODAY.

“The Pitt is ER. It’s not like ER, it’s not kind of ER, it’s not sort of ER. It is ER complete with the same executive producer, writer, star, production companies, studio, and network as the planned ER reboot," says the lawsuit. "No one has been fooled."

Tune into The Pitt season finale on April 10 and read up on The 1923 Season Finale, premiering on Paramount+ April 6.
