We think it’s safe to say that at this year’s Met Gala, the highly anticipated stars of the ball — the couture clothing — really only made a half appearance. The most jaw-dropping dresses of the night, ones we saw on celebs like J.Lo, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian West and Miley Cyrus, were so sheer, so cut out that it’s almost like they were barely there.
It turns out ultra sexy see-through garments aren’t just a trend at Fashion Prom. At the recent New York Age of Adaline premiere, Blake Lively wow-ed in a star-studded sheer bodysuit, while Taylor Swift was snapped in a sparkly sheer jumpsuit on the first few nights of her world tour. The look is obviously having a moment among A-listers this season, but what about for us real girls?
While we most likely won’t be baring half of our booties in public, it seems like styles are more daring than ever this spring (and that’s on top of the shorter hemlines and airier fabrics that go along with the increasingly warmer weather). So, if going bra-less isn’t an option for you (or you’d rather not freak about potentially causing a total scandal), we’ve rounded up the bras (+ bonus undie) you *need* to turn the most popular next-to-nothing looks into super wearable options.
Plunging Neckline
Thanks to the wide-sweeping ’70s revival, necklines are taking a how-low-can-you-go turn. Whether it’s a deeper-than-normal V-neck or a neckline that plunges to your waist, keep yourself covered (and lifted) with these adhesive shapers.
Stylestalker Blue Me Away Print Dress With Plunge Neckline ($234) + Lingerie Solutions Bring It Up Breast Shapers ($17)
Side Boob Top
Your neckline isn’t the only thing that’s taking the plunge. With sides this deeply cut, you have a few options. Pull a Taylor Swift and wear a matching bandeau to add coverage while DIYing a new striking silhouette, or go bare it all with adhesive petals that smooth and shield.
Urban Outfitters Kimchi Blue Pinafore Lace Mini Dress ($79) + Nordstrom Intimates Silicone Gel Breast Petals ($15)
Cut Out Back
Here’s the thing: If you’re going to invest in a backless piece, you *have* to invest in a backless bra (if you ask us, nothing kills a vibe easier than bra straps invading an otherwise open back). This adhesive Invisible Bra provides support and added lift, no straps required.
Out from Under Kiera Jumpsuit ($59) + Victoria’s Secret Invisible Push-Up Bra ($68)
Bare Shoulders
If you’d rather flash collarbone than cleavage, then make sure you have the strapless bra to go along with that shoulder-baring top. Silicone grippers on the inside of this lacy bra make sure it stays completely put.
SHEER TOP
Whether it’s romantic lace or sporty mesh, all-over sheer tops are in. Ditch the cami or bandeau for something more of-the-moment like this strappy bralette that will add some edge to the delicate look.
Forever 21 Embroidered Mesh Lace Top ($23) + Urban Outfitters Silence + Noise Front O-Ring Strappy Bralette ($34)
Low Front and Back
For a double-trouble garment like this dress with a plunging neck and back, wear a U-plunge bra for the most support. This adhesive underwire bra works its way around the issues with maximum shape and support.
Thigh-High Slit
While we’re fans of the majorly flirty way thigh-high slits flash your legs, we don’t love that you’re just a gust or dance move away from showing off way more. Fashion tape can help tame those sky high hems stay classy(er), but just in case, we’d don a pair of full-coverage yet just-as-sexy panties. Ones like these scalloped numbers are practical, protective and help you totally own the look should a power walk put you out there.
Reformation Odessa Dress ($258) + Urban Outfitters Everly Lace Cheeky Boyshort ($8)
