Breastfeeding + Pumping Essentials for the Modern Mama

What would a week dedicated to boobs be without a little breastfeeding real talk? Now that I'm a second-time mom, I'm basically a pro — right? Not at all, but I have learned a thing or two about a few pieces of the puzzle, and breastfeeding is one of those things. I'm the proud mama of two bright future boss babes, Anokhi (3y) and Indira (7m). I'm currently still breastfeeding my youngest, and breastfed my eldest for her first year.

Like every single thing related to birth, feeding, and raising your children, no one way is the right way. You've gotta do what's right for your family, what keeps everyone healthy and sane, and what works well with all the other million things you have going on in your day to day.

While I am a huge believer in the awesomeness of breastmilk and the bond you experience nursing your little one, there are plenty of other incredible ways to nourish and bond with your child. In fact, on this very list you'll see that I include formula as a breastfeeding essential — without it, it would have been downright impossible for me to breastfeed Anokhi for a full 12 months. But we'll get to that later. Onto the list!

For Breastfeeding

A little selfie action about a week into being a mama of two!

Nursing Pillow + Pillows In General: I've used a Boppy with both my girls and it's been great, but the key actually is that we have throw pillows everywhere in the house. Anything can become a nursing pillow when you need it to. In fact, a puffy down vest or jacket makes an excellent nursing pillow when you're on the go ;)

Bras That Pull Easily to the Side: Official nursing bras have not worked well for me, so I like to go with super soft basically structure-less bras that are easy to pull to the side. When I tried using the ones that are underwire with a cup and then they unclip and pull down, I find that the cup is so awkward and I can't get quite as snuggly with my babe. My go-to non-bra bras are this Gap Breathe Bralette and Storq's Everyday Bra.

Foods That Promote Lactation: I have to admit, I haven't been the greatest at making sure to take Fenugreek every day, drink Mother's Milk Tea, and all the rest of it. But it IS a good idea and it definitely helps with production. If you can make the effort (or have a friend make the effort for you), Eat to Feed is an excellent book of recipes for breastfeeding moms, made by the founders of Oat Mama.

Muslin Towels: We have soft muslin baby towels everywhere in our house. On the couch, under the couch, on the floor, on the changing table, in my pocket right now — you get the picture. For spit-up, for snot, for milk that unexpectedly sprays out, tiny towels are your friends. We like these BabyBliss Muslin Washcloths mostly for the cute patterns. We've also used these super soft Microfiber Washcloths but find that they catch on Velcro so not ideal for your new Velcro-forward life.

White Noise: Depending on your baby's disposition and age, there's a chance she gets distracted easily. It can be so frustrating when you know your little one is hungry and you've got a boob full of milk, but they can't help but keep looking around, perking up at every little sound, and so on. When Indira is in a distractible state, I use the Baby Sleep Sounds app to drown out excess noise and it definitely helps her get in a zen nursing state.

For Pumping

When you've gotta pump, but you also need to be a rainbow skeleton.

The Right Pump: Oh man, I have legit tried seven different pumps in my breastfeeding life. For me, the most reliable one has been the Spectra S1 (it's rechargeable!). I can pump for 20 minutes or so, get a good dose of milk, and don't have to be plugged in. Even though it's bulky, it's been great for travel because you can get at least 5 sessions out of one charge. While I can't possibly keep buying breast pumps, I am very intrigued by the Motif Duo (SO portable!) and Elvie (wearable!). If you try them out, let me know what you think.

Pumping Bra: I've tried a few of the newer more modern-looking options but tbh, this Hands-Free Pumping Bra is the one that works best for me. I always use it without the straps so I can easily zip it on and pull up my shirt and regular bra without a big production.

Cooler Bag: If you're traveling for work and pumping on the go, you need a cooler bag. I've really liked the PackIt Freezable Cooler Bag. You put the whole bag in your freezer and it has built in ice packs, so you don't have a bunch of separate pieces to deal with. They're available in a few different sizes and, in my experience, keep breastmilk cool for up to 10 hours. Truth be told, sometimes I toss string cheese into the cooler to have as a pumping snack!

Diaper Caddy as Office Pump Station: My latest genius pumping move is using this Baby Diaper Caddy Organizer as a pump station. I keep my pump in one section, pumping bra, sanitizing spray, and milk storage bags in another, and the pump bottles and parts in the last one. It all fits nicely and makes it easy to pump at work without having to keep going back to your desk to grab something you forgot.

Scarf That Doubles as a Towel: When pumping in public (I've pumped in at least 20 Lyft/Uber-rides in the last four months), I like to bring along a scarf for covering up and also for cleanup!

No-Rinse Breastmilk Sanitizing Wipes + Spray: I keep a bottle of sanitizing spray in my trusty pump caddy at work, and travel with sanitizing wipes when I'm on the road. Medela makes both and they totally do the trick, making it easy to use your pump multiple times in a row without having to find a sink for washing everything.

Mamava Pumping/Nursing Pods: These pumping (and nursing) pods are finally in airports everywhere! Or at least in a LOT of them. Download the Mamava App to find a pumping pod in whatever airport you're in. It's a totally zenned out experience and you won't be interrupted (unlike the family-friendly bathroom). I've only used them for pumping, but imagine they'd be great for nursing if you want a bit more privacy or have a v distractible babe.

Photos + Videos of Your Baby: I remember learning this in a baby class at the hospital before having my first. If you look at photos of your baby, you will produce more milk. I thought this had to be bogus but it is totally true! I produce way more milk when I stare endlessly at photos and videos of Indira than when I try to multi-task.

For Your Bod

Pocket leggings, tiny baby bundled in, let's do this!

Pocket Leggings: Is it just me or is the innovation of pockets in leggings a total game changer? I mean, I don't love the look of the phone quite literally attached to my hip BUT it makes mom life a whole lot more streamlined. I swear by these Prana Becksa 7/8 Leggings and legit have them in four colors. Now that I see they have six colors, I probs need to buy two more pairs.

Thin, Soft Sweatshirts: A lot of ladies like to go with the button-down approach when breastfeeding, but I've found a thin, soft sweatshirt is easier and faster to nurse in. I am in a constant rotation between this Alternative Apparel Eco-Teddy Sweatshirt, this Prana Sunrise Sweatshirt, and this Clare V. x Every Mother Counts Sweatshirt.

Cozy Baby Carrier: This was key for the first 3-4 months after Indira was born. I wrapped her up in my Solly Baby Wrap and could easily breastfeed while carrying her around. Not to mention, this type of wrap is much easier on a post-partum belly. They also come in SO many fun colors and patterns!

Next Level Water Bottle: Girl, you're gonna get dehydrated. Trust me. Put water bottles everywhere you might possibly breastfeed so that you remember to hydrate while nursing (or pumping). And if you want to take it to the next level, we're huge fans of the LARQ Water Bottle that purifies your water so you don't get that icky mildew inside the bottle. I'm also a fan of the glass bkr bottle — I swear water tastes better out of a glass vessel.

Moisturizing Lip Balm: So that whole dehydration thing does a number on your smackers. My go-to lip balm is Kiehl's Butterstick, which also comes in a few light tints giving you a little pop of color along with moisture.

Loungewear: If you think you rocked athleisure pre-motherhood, prepare to take your love of comfort to a whole new dimension. The right robe is key, as is the right pair of loose but fitted lounge pants with a pocket. For a rather stylist silhouette, go for Storq's Lounge Set which includes a short robe, tank top, and pants with pockets. I also live in these Vuori Performance Joggers (my husband even bought a pair for himself — guess couples really do start dressing alike eventually!).

For Your Sanity

A baby, her big sister, and a canister of organic formula at the ready.

Formula: I know, I know — this is an article about breastfeeding essentials, why oh why are you talking about formula? The thing is, formula has been essential to my breastfeeding journey. Thanks to supplementing with formula, I was able to continue breastfeeding my oldest daughter long after going back to work when my supply started to diminish (in spite of pumping 3-5x a day and drinking all the tea, eating all the oats, taking Fenugreek, etc.). Earth's Best Organic Gentle Formula with Iron has been my current babe Indira's fave alternate to breastmilk.

Norman Mailer, I'm pregnant! This might be a memorable line from an equally memorable Gilmore Girls episode, but it's now also a reality for one of the show's stars because Milo Ventimiglia is expecting his first child! The actor married model and entrepreneur Jarah Mariano in the fall of 2023 at a tiny, private ceremony (a move that was very Jess Mariano of him), and on September 29, Jarah announced she's pregnant!

Milo Ventimiglia and Jarah Mariano just showed up at Brian Bowen Smith's ‘Joyride’ exhibit at Studio CT in California, and one source tells People Milo was “sweet and attentive to his wife throughout the whole event.” Duh!!

He “seemed very proud to be with her" while Jarah looked "radiant and glowing," as she always does. “Milo was kissing her and whispering into her ear," the source continues. "They were just genuinely lovely together.”

Is Jarah Mariano pregnant?

Jarah Mariano/Instagram

Yes, Jarah Mariano announced her pregnancy with an Instagram post featuring a surf session with Milo Ventimiglia. In the photos, Jarah is sitting on a surfboard wearing a brown bikini top, polka dot bikini bottoms, and a pink lei. "Baby on board!" she says in the caption.

After his time on Gilmore Girls, Milo played patriarch Jack Pearson on NBC's This Is Us, and told US Weekly in 2017 that "I think I’m built to want a strong family unit. “It will happen when it happens. I’m not out seeking it. It’s just kind of, I’m present in the space in my life that when it presents itself and it’s right, I’m sure it will work out.”

And it looks like it worked out at the exact right time.

Does Milo Ventimiglia have a wife?

Yes, Milo Ventimiglia & wife Jarah Mariano got married in the fall of 2023, and Jarah recently posted some new photos from the special day. "Last year I married my best friend," she says. "There aren’t enough words that exist to describe all the special qualities that make him who he is. AlI can say is that I am grateful for the life that we have together and the happiness that we have created🤍 Aloha wau iā 'oe my husband Milo."

"Things are good," Milo told Extra in February 2024. "We've had relationships that have come and have gone and then you get to a point where you kind of meet your match and meet someone that inspires you in a way different than anybody else...I'm grateful for her and I’m happy to have arrived in this moment, so married life is nice."

We're always ready to go back to Hogwarts, whether we're making a Harry Potter cocktail for our September 1st celebration or hosting a movie night in our coziest PJs. And thanks to HBO, we'll be able to visit for the first time all over again. On April 12, 2023 Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that an original Harry Potter series was coming to their Max streaming service.

The series will be released over the course of ten years (!!) and WBD promises that it'll feature a book authenticity and attention to detail that even the most knowledgable Potterhead will appreciate. Grab your Harry Potter house scarf and your pumpkin juice, and keep reading for everything you need to know about the new Harry Potter TV show!

Will there be a Harry Potter TV show?

Warner Bros.

Yes, we're getting a new Harry Potter TV show! The official video announcement features the Hogwarts candles we see in the first film coming together to create that classic golden, lit-from-within logo. It's totally magical and nostalgic, but has a new contemporary edge I can't wait to see in its full form.

Will the Harry Potter TV show follow the books?

Amazon

Yes, book fans will be happy to know the new series will definitely follow the plot of the books. And Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, finally gave us a tease during MIPCOM‘s C-Suite Conversations. "It’s an unbelievable dream, honestly, and as somebody who is a huge fan of books, the opportunity to get to explore them in maybe a little bit more in-depth than you can in just a two-hour film," she said (via THR). "That’s the whole reason we’re on this journey.”

Has HBO begun casting for the new Harry Potter series?

Warner Bros.

Dungey also revealed they've started looking for a new golden trio. “There’s not a lot to talk about at this moment," she says. "We’ve got our fantastic writing staff in place and they are doing what they need to do. And casting calls have opened up in the U.K. and Ireland, so the process is moving along. It’s going quite well.”

What else do I need to know?

Warner Bros./IMDb

“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” Casey Bloys, HBO & Max Content's Chairman and CEO, said in the press release. “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World.”

The series comes from Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts serving as executive producers. Over the last few years, Rowling has made headlines for her conservative views and commentary on transgender identities, but at the time, Bloys didn't comment when asked whether her involvement could affect their ability to move forward.

On June 26, 2024 it was announced that Francesca Gardiner would write and serve as showrunner and Mark Mylod would executive produce and direct several episodes. Both worked on Succession.

"I'm truly thrilled to announce our director and writer, both of whom I interviewed as part of the production team," J.K. Rowling tweeted. "Both have a genuine passion for #HarryPotter, and having read Francesca's pilot script and heard Mark's vision, I'm certain the TV show will more than live up to expectations."

When is the HBO Harry Potter TV show release date?

Max/HBO/Warner Bros.

The new Harry Potter series is expected to hit Max in 2026, according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav (via Deadline). That means we could start seeing cast lists and getting more specific plot details in 2025!

Who plays Harry Potter in the new series?

Warner Bros.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Daniel Radcliffe makes it clear that even though he's very excited about the new show, he probably won't be included in the new cast of Harry Potter.

“I’m sure whoever is making [the series] will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” he says. “So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

There's no word on whether any of the original cast will actually be returning, but after we cried while watching the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, we can only hope that Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, and Tom Felton will at least make cameo appearances. I'd love to see Daniel Radcliffe in the Ministry of Magic, or see Tom Felton walking around Diagon Alley. (However, I'm really hoping they're cast as some of the professors. Just imagine Emma as Professor McGonagall!)

Is Harry Potter on Netflix or Amazon Prime?

Warner Bros.

The Harry Potter series is currently available to stream on Max and Peacock. However, you can also rent the movies on Amazon Prime!

No matter if you're Team Jess or Team Logan, or you jump back and forth between the idea Emily and Richard were the best parents or the worst parents, there's something every Gilmore Girls fan agrees on: Christopher is the ultimate Gilmore Girls villain. He never truly pursues a relationship with Rory, he constantly causes chaos in Stars Hollow, and despite promising to be a consistent part of Lorelai and Rory's lives, he always leaves faster than you can say "coffee." And according to one Reddit post, there's one moment in Gilmore Girls season 3 when Richard finally realizes what every GG lover has known the whole time: he "isn’t sh—t."

Warner Bros. TV

One of the admittedly annoying aspects of Gilmore Girls was just how much Emily and Richard Gilmore loved Christopher. They almost always saw him on his best behavior (meaning they didn't really see the aforementioned Stars Hollow chaos or Chris' flakiness), and in their eyes, Lorelai and Christopher should have gotten married a long time ago. They surprise Lorelai by inviting him for Friday Night Dinners, and find opportunities to bring him up every chance they get.

But when Christopher doesn't show up for Rory's high school graduation at the end of season 3, and Lorelai isn't really surprised, Richard and Emily see his true colors — and you can literally see Richard processing the information in real time.

"Never paid this much attention to Richard’s face before, he looks absolutely disgusted and baffled by this," Reddit user @MoneyAd0618 says. "Meanwhile these people from Lorelai’s town are all there!"

"Wow! I never noticed the look on his face, it’s subtle, but it at the same time shows so much emotion," another user comments.

If you ask me, not showing up for a huge moment in Rory's life is disgusting behavior and just proves he has no desire in having a relationship with her. "[He's] more concerned about getting in Lorelai's pants than having a relationship with Rory," one Reddit user explains. "He told his daughter the best day of his life was Lorelai kissing him. Its no coincidence that once he had no romantic prospect with Lorelai, him and Rory have barely a relationship."

While it's totally on brand for Chris to miss a big event in Rory's life, there was actually a reason actor David Sutcliffe wasn't on set. Reportedly, creator Amy Sherman Palladino wasn't ready for Luke and Christopher to meet, have conversations, and share space — especially around Rory and Lorelai. And considering they have a huge argument during the season 5 episode "Wedding Bell Blues," that was probably a safe choice.

This fight is a huge moment between the two of them because they aren't really fighting over Lorelai — they're fighting over Rory. Throughout her childhood, Luke has always been the one giving her mashed potatoes when she had the chicken pox, making her birthday pancakes, and even moving her into college. Christopher wants the title of father without any of the responsibility or relationship — two things Luke is simply great at.

Blake Lively is as multifaceted as they come. She's an actress who has starred in titles like Gossip Girl, A Simple Favor, and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (plus It Ends With Us). She's the founder of Betty Buzz, which has a variety of non-alcoholic mixers that taste just as good on their own as they do with liquor. And, she's also a mom. Lively has been outspoken about protecting her children from the paparazzi, making rare public appearances with them for events like her husband Ryan Reynolds' Hollywood Walk Of Fame Ceremonyandcozy date nights.

When Lively and Reynolds seemingly announced the birth of their fourth child last year, we melted. Here's everything you need to know about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's kids.

How do Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively prioritize their kids?

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Michael Kors

At the end of September, Ryan Reynolds revealed how different parenting seems to be now than when he was a kid. "Parents today are so different. We're so soft," he said at HubSpot’s INBOUND tech conference (via People). "I don't yell. I grew up with like — it was nuts, it was an improvised militia.”

“Now it's like, I can go look at all my resources for parenting and remind myself how to be perfectly compassionate,” he continued. "Something I love about [conflict resolution], and I know this is not very fancy, but what I love about it is that you can meet somebody where they are, and you don't have to be right or wrong...You can disagree and still connect."

Blake Lively recently joined an episode of her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' costar Amber Tamblyn's Further Adoand revealed the one unbreakable rule she made with Ryan Reynolds.

“When Ryan and I got together, we made a rule not to work at the same time,” she says. “So that we could always prioritize our personal life...That takes working really hard when we're not. Just like financial planning and sustaining that; it takes balance.”

I love that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are serious about their family life, and that they have identified what works for them and are sticking with it.

What is the name of Blake Lively's 4th baby?

Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' fourth baby is named Olin, which he revealed during the July 22 premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine!

Before Ryan chose to reveal the name, he appeared on the Today show and made a cheeky joke about it after the hosts urged him to spill the beans. He said, "We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child's name will be. We'll say this: we're still waiting."

What gender is Ryan and Blake's fourth child?

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images

On July 26, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that he and Blake Lively's fourth baby, born in February 2023, is a boy in an Instagram video supporting mental health charity Walking 4 Hope. Speaking with founder John Bell, who struggled with suicidal ideation after the 2020 loss of his son Jake, Reynolds says, “I want to share with you that I, too, have a son...Boy, John, if I love him one-tenth as much as you love Jake, I’ll feel like I’ve done a pretty d—mn good job.”

Considering how adorable James, Inez, and Betty are, I can only imagine how cute Blake Lively's son is!

How many children do Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have?

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have four kids. They welcomed their third daughter in 2019, making this new addition to the family their fourth child.

What are Blake Lively kids ages?

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Michael Kors

Blake Lively's kids are all under 10. James is 9 (turning 10 on December 16), Inez is 7 (turning 8 on September 30), Betty is 4 (turning 5 on October 4), and Olin turned 1 in February.

Did Blake Lively have a 4th baby?

Emma McIntyre/Getty Images for American Cinematheque

Blake Lively posted a pic on Super Bowl Sunday in 2023 showing what appears to be a post-baby body with the caption "Been busy."

Lively confirmed her fourth pregnancy in September 2022 when she arrived at her Forbes event in NYC cradling a baby bump and by posting her own personal photos on Instagramhoping that "the 11 guys waiting outside [her] home for a 🦄 sighting will leave [her] alone."

How old was Blake Lively when she had her first child?

Mike Coppola/Getty Images for Michael Kors

Blake Lively was 27 when she gave birth to her first daughter, James, in December of 2014.

Why did Blake Lively name her daughter James?

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images

The couple decided to name their daughter James after Reynolds' late father. While the name connects both James and Reynolds to his father, it also gives Lively the chance to bond with her daughter over having historically male names. "I liked having a boy's name," Lively said on Good Morning Americain 2015. "I thought I'd pass it on."

Their third daughter Betty's name is a tribute to Lively's late father. We didn't know the name of the couple's third baby until Taylor Swift used all three names in her 2020 album folklore. Swift also used James' voice at the beginning of her 2017 track "Gorgeous"! Does that mean we'll hear one of Ryan Reynolds' children in Reputation (Taylor's Version)? I hope so!

What has Ryan Reynolds said about raising their kids?

Amy Sussman/Getty Images

In a conversation with Hugh Jackman ahead of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds opened up about how his family has helped his anxiety. "I think it makes it better because your focus is less on yourself and more on your kids," he says (via People). "I love that I've had anxiety because when I see my kids experiencing some of that, which is probably genetic, I know how to address it in a way that is compassionate, that actually allows them to feel seen. I know that I can't just fix it. And I can communicate all that stuff to them and with them. I'm always grateful for it."

Per People, Ryan Reynolds has also made it clear he and Blake are wholly invested in the kids' daily lives. The doting husband and father enjoys the moments of "walking them to school and walking them back" as it deepens their bond. More than anything, Ryan and Blake's main goal is to make sure they teach their kids how to be introspective with Ryan saying "the thing we sort of hang our hat on the most is self-awareness with our kids."

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images

However, that doesn't mean Blake and Ryan don't absolutely love being parents. "We're very excited [and] we wouldn't do this four times if we didn't love it," he says in an interview with CNBC's Power Lunch. "Everybody's doing great. Everybody's actually doing fantastic. I think if we hadn't figured it out by now, I think we'd be in deep, deep trouble."

"It's a zoo over here," he jokes. "This is my office here, this is where I'll probably — to be honest, I'll probably spend the rest of my life in here."

We love how much energy Ryan and Blake are pouring into their kids. It's always beautiful when parents are able to be present with their kids and teach them how to be present with themselves. Ryan Reynolds has also mentioned how having daughters "has been such a ride." Since he comes from a family of all boys, having daughters is something that was beyond his wildest dreams! “I love being a girl dad,” Ryan tells Access in 2020. “I have three daughters, which I never in a million years would imagine.”

He mentioned his newest child in June of 2023, when he announced his new series Bedtime Stories. "The idea for a show made to help everyone fall asleep was born the same day as my fourth child," he says on Instagram.

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

The Deadpool actor also recently offered some parenting advice on Amanda Hirsch’s hit podcastNot Skinny But Not Fat. "Embrace the chaos,” he tells Hirsch. "[Blake] always says, ‘They're all under our roof right now. The whole family's under our roof right now. We have them all.’ And that is a fleeting thing. Not an infinite resource, you know?”

While Reynolds understands firsthand how overwhelming parenting can feel, he also doesn't wish away this time with four young kids: “Just say, ‘Think about what you would give in 40 years or 30 years to come back and enjoy this one moment.’"

How has motherhood affected Blake Lively?

Dimitrios Kambouris/Staff/Getty Images Entertainment via Getty Images;Art by Claire Shadomy/B+C

Blake Lively opened up about how Ryan Reynolds and she monitor screen safety for their kids, which is definitely something top-of-mind in 2024. “This is not an ad. I get nothing out of this. I just love @tappityapp,” she said of the STEM-focused educational app. “It’s engaging, informative, fun and they care about safety."

She also jokes that she's learning new things right along with her kids! But, no matter how educational or fun an app is, Blake Lively also emphasizes the importance of engaging with her kids' devices: "I’m always triple checking any kids app constantly for safety because that’s my responsibility not an app’s, but I do LOVE this one.”

Despite its fun and funny moments, the actress has admitted being a mom is hard, but she did it with her signature dry sense of humor. “BettyBooze at your service," she wrote in an Instagram Story announcing the new brand. "These are recipes I’ve been making for loved ones for years. But I have 4 kids now. And I’m tired. So here they are. In a can."

Emma McIntyre/Getty Images for American Cinematheque

However, Blake Lively absolutely loves motherhood, and says in a 2022 interview with Forbes that having children has made her feel more comfortable in her own skin. "Once I had children, that just became even more profound because my time was even more precious, but also I think having children for me made me feel so much more in my skin," she says. "I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident — not to say that there aren't a bevy of insecurities coming at me a million times a day, but I just feel incredibly settled."

Speaking with People in 2021, Lively also explains how important it is that her children see her accomplish things outside the home. "I want to be as present of a mother as humanly possible and I want them to feel my presence, but I also think the best way to be the best mother is to show them that you can have a life and have a passion and have an identity outside of just being a mother," Lively says.

While she acknowledges that motherhood is all-encompassing, and it looks different for everyone, she knows that having your own identity is very important. "Teaching them that they can maintain themselves and that everything is possible [is crucial]," she adds.

Yes, Taylor Swift loves Blake Lively's kids! At the Philadelphia show of the Eras Tour, in which Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively attended, Taylor said hello from the stage.

One funny detail about Ryan Reynolds' kids that I love is when he mentioned the girls finally realized Taylor Swift was a popstar. "I think what's most exciting for them is that for the longest time they just thought Taylor's just like an aunt, like a friend of Mommy and Daddy that's very, very close, almost family," he tellsThe Jess Cagle Show. "And then they went to a concert one day and were like, 'Ohhhhh, this isn't a hobby.'"

For Super Bowl Sunday in 2024, Blake Lively joined Taylor Swift to support beau (and KC Chiefs tight end) Travis Kelce. "Last week I left my kids for the first time ever," she says on Instagram. "I took pictures upside down and had no clue. I treated a friendship bracelet like a Flat Stanley for my husband like I didn’t realize it wasn’t ‘07. I borrowed more jewelry than the skeleton in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. And I went clubbing. Now I know what my episode of TheTwilight Zone would look like."

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' children don't have a nanny. "I feel like I could sometimes have a bit of a short fuse, but there's just been this weirdly endless supply of patience," Ryan told GQ in 2015. "I have no problem waking up five times in the middle of the night and changing diapers, and as exhausted as you get, I have this stupid grin on my face all the time."
