There are a few things in life you just can’t get enough of, one of which is butter. And so, welcome to Brit + Co’s ode to butter! Plain ‘ol butter is good, but can sometimes get tiring. So the obvious solution would be to make our own flavored butter!
We’ve whipped up 6 different butter flavors for you to try. Don’t be scared, flavored butter is easy to make and never fails to impress. Ready to melt the crowd at your next potluck?
Ingredients:
Sweet Butters
Cinnamon Brown Sugar– 1 stick butter, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
Strawberry Vanilla– 1 stick butter, 1 pack dehydrated strawberries (0.33 oz), 1 tb sugar, 1 tb vanilla extract
Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows– 1 stick butter, 1.5 tb hot chocolate powder, 1.5 tb heavy whipping cream, 2 jumbo marshmallows
Savory Butters
Sundried Tomato– 1 stick butter, 1 tb sundried tomatoes
Rosemary Orange– 1 stick butter, 2 tsp orange zest, 1 tb fresh rosemary
Garlic Dill– 1 stick butter, 1/2 tsp minced garlic, 1 tsp chopped fresh dill
First off, let’s make a few sweet butters. The method to the madness tends to be the same. Add flavoring to creamy butter, and mix like there’s no tomorrow.
We started off making a cinnamon brown suger butter. First, make sure the butter is at room temperature since you’re going to be hand “churning” it. Put the butter in a bowl, add in the flavors, mix and BOOM! Compound butter. You’re welcome.
For the strawberry vanilla butter, use a Magic Bullet or food processor to dice up the strawberries. Then add in strawberries, sugar, and vanilla with butter. Mix.
The hot chocolate butter takes a few more steps. Gently warm the cream, hot chocolate powder, and marshmallows in a small saucepan until the marshmallows are melted. Let cool for about ten minutes, then add to room temperature butter. Mix. These sweet butters are great for scones or any morning pastries.
Now, let’s switch it up with some savory butters!
For the sundried tomato butter, use a food processor again to chop up the sundried tomatoes. It will turn into a paste. Add the paste into butter and mix.
Next, try a zesty orange rosemary butter, or garlic dill. For both butters, all you need to do is add the flavorings to the butter, and mix together.
These butters pair well with seafood or some roasted chicken.
Isn’t it amazing how simple compound butter can be? If only the rest of life were so simple.
If you put the butter in these little cupcake tins, be sure to warn guests. Or not…that could be interesting too ;)
