What To Expect This Cancer Season, According To Your Zodiac Sign

cancer season forecast

It's hard to believe that Gemini season is almost over, but the Sun officially moves into the sign of Cancer on the 21st this month. In addition to being the official start of summer, Cancer season calls us all to reflect on the things in our lives we want to nurture and protect. The heat of the summer is a super fertile and highly energetic time of year, so it's time to follow through on all the seeds and intentions we planted in the springtime, and to gather with those we love to celebrate. Looking for more specific advice? Take a look at what to expect this Cancer season, and don't forget: We always recommend reading your rising sign horoscope, but your Sun sign and Moon sign horoscopes are also relevant.

Aries

For the last couple of months, you’ve been feeling the wind beneath your wings, especially in relationship to your confidence levels and appearance. Cancer season promises to add even more fuel to the fire, but you’ll also be called to focus on your home and family life. The major lesson to learn this month is to balance your ego and your own needs with your ability to be there for other people, whether at work or at home.

Around June 21st, make an effort to get your finances in order, and to solidify important matters in your career. It could be a great time to ask for a raise, even if it takes a while to get approval.

The New Moon in Cancer on the 28th will be a good time for you to stay home and hang out with your family. Check in with how you’re feeling about that aforementioned self vs. others balance, and pay attention to how family dynamics impact your own impulses and emotional health.

Around July 9, focus on thinking things through before you speak… you might be prone to saying things you’ll regret later, especially to your parents or other immediate family members.

By the time July 13th’s Full Moon in Capricorn rolls around, all these lessons around self vs. others will have come to a head, this time in your work life. Ask yourself how you can be a good teammate, and what boundaries you need to set for yourself in order to preserve your work-life balance so you can show up fully every day.

Taurus

This Cancer season, there will be a major focus on expressing yourself in a way that has a positive impact on your well-being and that of your community. Throughout the season, you may find that you have strong feelings about what’s happening in your immediate surroundings and day-to-day interactions… it’s a good time to examine those feelings more deeply.

Around June 21, your worldview might be challenged or expanded in a way that has to do with how you perceive yourself and your place in the world. It’s a good time to pull out a journal (or chat with your therapist) about any unresolved issues that may be impacting how you view your identity and your beliefs.

Around the 27th, you may find yourself having an emotional or impulsive reaction to something that happens around your workplace or your public life (including on social media). Remember to take a breather and examine why you’re reacting so strongly to the situation.

From the end of June through mid-July, pay attention to your communication style and how it’s reflecting upon who you are as a person: Are you communicating in ways that support how you show up in the world? Pay attention to what you say on the 9th… are you saying what you really mean, or are you actually emotionally triggered? All these themes will come to head around the time of the Full Moon in Capricorn on July 13th. Unexpected events may cause you to react emotionally. There’s nothing wrong with emotions, but try to be present with your feelings so you can react in a healthy way.

Gemini

Your major themes this Cancer season will involve your body and appearance, as well as your finances and belongings. Many of this month’s shifts may be subtle for you, but you’re gearing up for lots of activity once Mars moves into Gemini in August.

For now, focus on building up your confidence and taking care of yourself, your possessions, and your finances. Around July 2 is a good time to sign any contracts or file any paperwork that will lay the groundwork for income down the road. The 9th may bring additional financial opportunities, particularly stemming from friends, coworkers, and your broader network. If you’re partnered up, your SO’s income may be spotlighted around the time of the Full Moon in Capricorn on the 13th.

Around July 14th, be wary of letting fanciful or unrealistic ideas impact your decision making — it’s a good time to participate in fun and lighthearted activities (think socializing with friends, trying new makeup looks, and trying a new self-care routine) but try not to put too much stock into anything that comes up. It’s probably just a passing fad.

Cancer

If your work life picked up steam and gave you renewed energy and focus last month, you can expect that trend to continue on into Cancer season. This is your time to shine! And with a phase like that comes the unfortunate side effect of burnout and mental fatigue. Be sure to nurture yourself as much as you nurture others.

The New Moon in Cancer on the 28th may have you feeling on top of the world. It’s a great time to plant seeds and put pen to paper on some new goals. Just make sure all you set out to accomplish is realistic and achievable so you’re not setting yourself up for failure.

Around the first of the month, expect to be triggered by some difficult feelings, particularly as it relates to your public image or career and your close 1:1 relationships. If you have an S.O., they may be feeling neglected — or maybe the roles are reversed, and you’re the one in that position. Either way, make space around this time to reflect on how the world sees you and how your closest loved ones are responding. Is everything in alignment?

Be on guard for any relationship drama that may arise around the time of the Full Moon on the 13th. Emotions may be running high, and your friendships may be playing a role in some of the drama. Make sure your priorities are in alignment and that you’re treating your nearest and dearest with love and concern… but don’t sacrifice your time in the spotlight if you don’t want to.

Leo

You may be feeling a little introspective this month, Leo, but that’s not a problem. You’ve been evaluating your worldview and making time for personal growth this year, so this month is a good time to let some of that sink in. Your friends will be along for the ride, especially in late June and the first few days of July.

June 21 is a good time to work through any issues related to your body, health, or habits. These won’t be easy issues to resolve, but if you put your values first, you’ll come up with the right answers to your questions.

Around the 5th of the month, you may notice some renewed energy and vitality around your career and public life, but at the same time, an uptick in anxiety and worries may start to make itself known. Try to balance this dynamic with a lot of time spent getting out of your head and into your body. Yoga, mindful movement, and breathing exercises will serve you well as your work life picks up steam.

July 13th’s Full Moon in Capricorn will reemphasize the themes of connecting to your body and doing your best to stay healthy, especially in the wake of a super busy summer. Eat nourishing foods, tune in to your five senses, and get a mindful workout in if you can.

Virgo

Having a hot girl summer, Virgo? As the Sun moves into the sign of Cancer, it will activate your friendships and social connections, shining a light on your social networks. After the 22nd of June, your work life and public image (including your social media accounts, if you have them) will get a nice boost, and you’ll increasingly find that these areas of your life become fun and rewarding.

Around the time of the New Moon in Cancer on the 28th, take the time to make new connections and set intentions for how you’d like these relationships to grow and benefit you. If you’re interested, you might have some opportunities to hook up with someone in your circle — make sure you think things through before you act.

On and around July 5th, you’ll notice some shifts. Increasingly, you’ll feel ready to speak up and communicate with others about what’s on your mind. You're likely to voice your opinions and worldview strongly, and you may be more opinionated than usual. Just make sure you don’t put your foot in your mouth.

The Full Moon in Capricorn on the 13th will bring even more opportunities for fun and self-expression. As Venus switches signs and moves into Cancer on the 17th, you’ll have even more wind beneath your wings, socially. Have fun and enjoy!

Libra

This month promises to be an interesting one as you navigate feeling pulled in multiple directions. While a large part of the season’s focus will be on your career, you’ll also be negotiating how that impacts your home life, partnerships, and family. A key part of this equation will be figuring out your own worldview and paying attention to what you learn about yourself, especially after Venus moves into Gemini on the 22nd of June.

Around the 28th, the New Moon in Cancer will highlight the tension between your closest partnerships (think S.O.s, besties, and business partners) and your personal glory. In what areas of life are you compromising? Do you default to people-pleasing, or to self-referencing? These are great questions to journal about around the time of the New Moon.

The 1st of the month will bring new challenges around this issue, as you’ll feel compelled to take a stand about family matters and things going on at home. You may find that deep-seated issues around your family life are brought up. Try to reflect on how these themes are playing out in your life as an adult.

Pay attention to how well (or not) you’re prioritizing your significant others around the 9th of the month. By the time we reach mid-July (around the Full Moon on the 13th) you’re likely to be mostly focused on keeping the peace at home and reconnecting or disconnecting from loved ones. Know yourself well enough to know what you should prioritize, and what’s holding you back.

Scorpio

As summer heats up, so will your travel plans! With the Sun moving into Cancer on the 21st, you’re kickstarting a period of time that will highlight travel, your worldview, and your personal philosophy. Get ready for a time of learning and inspiration. There’ll also be a big focus on sex and romance. Maybe you and an interesting someone can spend the end of June dreaming big together?

The New Moon on the 28th will be a great time to reflect on how your views have shifted in the last few weeks. But be wary if you start to feel off-kilter; around this time, you may be prone to health issues. Lots of r&r is in order, and self-care is of the utmost priority.

Around the 5th of July, Mars and Mercury changing signs will bring renewed emphasis to your close 1:1 relationships. This may be a particularly passionate time for you, especially if you try to infuse stimulating philosophical conversation into your dates and meetups.

The Full Moon on the 13th should bring some refreshing relief from the intensity of your month. It’ll be a great day to go for a walk, enjoy your surroundings, and meet up with local friends.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius, the Sun in Cancer is getting ready to highlight some of your hidden, darker aspects of yourself. Around the 21st and 22nd of June, you may notice a shift as your focus turns to your closest 1:1 relationships, your sex life, and even your deepest secrets. It’s a good time to open up to others and let your closest friends and family into your inner world. Just make sure you’re putting up the necessary boundaries to make sure you don’t give in to the urge to merge completely.

The New Moon in Cancer on the 28th reinforces themes of sex and sexuality. Keep things light and fun, and if sex isn't a priority right now, use this energy to create something beautiful, whether that’s a work of original art or a solo performance at karaoke.

Things will shift a bit around July 5th when Mars moves into Taurus, highlighting a renewed vigor for activities like your job, daily routines, and even your workout regimen. Use this energy to get sh*t done, but be wary of injury and burnout… they’re real risks for a little more than a month.

Between the Full Moon on the 13th and Venus’s ingress into Cancer on the 17th, the end of Cancer season will be a great time to refocus on your personal finances (as well as your S.O.'s, if you’re coupled up).

Capricorn

Whether this is a summer of love or a summer of besties for you, your relationships with your nearest and dearest are going to be majorly important this month. So will your daily routines; if your closest relationships are supporting you in your day-to-day activities, you’ll be even more likely to stick with them. So fill your life with people who prioritize their own health and wellness, and who encourage you to do the same!

Around the 28th of June, the New Moon in Cancer will have you cozying up with your S.O., your closest pal, or perhaps collaborating with a business partner. This is great, but the thing is, your own inner emotions, childhood wounds, and family of origin may be finding ways to trigger you in different ways. Try to use this as a self-reflection tool, rather than letting your fears get the best of you.

Around the 5th of July, Mercury and Mars bring extra passion into your relationships, sex life, and hobbies. Use this creative energy to get closer to others, pursue your passions, and just plain have fun.

Around the 9th of July, whatever issues arose around the New Moon regarding your partnerships and private emotions are likely to arise again. Make sure you think things through before you speak so you don’t hurt anyone’s feelings or burn bridges unnecessarily.

Finally, the Full Moon in Capricorn on the 13th will help bring some of these themes into focus as you consider what all of it means for your conception of yourself. It’s likely that you’ll learn a lot about yourself this month if you stay present with your thoughts and emotions.

Aquarius

You might as well call this the summer of self-care, Aquarius. There’s going to be a major focus on your wellness, health, and routines this month. As Cancer season kicks off, take care of your mental well-being by immersing yourself in all the pleasurable activities you know make you happy, whether that’s creating art, hanging out with your pals, or seeking out some solo sexy time.

The New Moon in Cancer on the 28th is the perfect time to set wellness goals and start new morning or evening routines.

You may notice some energetic changes around the time of July 5th and beyond. Disruptions at home could test your newly laid wellness plans, but try to utilize that momentum to get things done. A balance of relaxation and productivity will be essential.

Around the time of the Full Moon (the 13th), self-care will be the name of the game. Any ongoing home projects or chores can be set aside as you make time for mental health and relaxation.

Pisces

Pisces, you love to get creative, and this Cancer season is the perfect time to do it. You’ll be especially well-served by creative matters that center around your home — try out some new home projects, start watercolor painting in your backyard, or create some moodboards for interior designs you’d like to try out.

Around the 5th, you’ll be ready to bring some of these new ideas to life — and to show them off to the world. Get out and about in your neighborhood and consider ways you can bring your creativity to your community. Even if you’re not the artistic type, you can speak up at local events, attend galleries and new business openings, and share your ideas with friends and neighbors. While you’ll feel a renewed desire to get involved in your community, you might find that obstacles or annoyances get in your way… try not to let those things cramp your style.

If you’ve been making your life all play and no work, it’s likely to start having consequences around the 9th. While your personal finances are generally looking pretty good this year, you might find that you overestimated your budget or over-promised your resources. This would be a good time to put things straight.

Around the Full Moon on the 13th, you’ll feel inclined to spend time with your pals and any new connections you might have made over the summer. Keep sharing your passions and creativity with others, and next month is sure to be equally fruitful for socialization and fun.

After Outer Banks season 3, fans were eager to see what being in a real relationship meant for JJ (Rudy Pankow) and Kiara (Madison Bailey), and thankfully, this season delivers. The latest 10 episodes include some fantastic moments for the new couple, ranging from earlier season callbacks to their first official date and some heartbreaking moments we'll be thinking about for a long time. So, in honor of season 4, here are our top 9 Jiara moments from Outer banks season 4!

Keep reading for the best JJ and Kiara moments from Outer Banks season 4, now streaming on Netflix.

9. In Sync

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

JJ and Kiara are so in tune with each other that they're immediately able to clock when something is off. Case in point, Kiara knows Chandler is lying when he says JJ sent him to get the scroll, and JJ knows Chandler's lying when he claims Kiara gave him the scroll. And the fact they echo each other almost exactly by saying they just know the other "wouldn't do that" proves how in sync they are.

8. Kiara Calls Out Luke (Again)

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

We know the Pogues know each other better than anyone, and when they learn the town is going to proceed with rezoning The Cut — and bulldozing Pougelandia — she immediately jumps to her feet to try and defend their home. Kiara doesn't mess around when it comes to justice, especially when JJ is directly affected. And when she calls out Luke for betraying JJ's trust (again), it's the perfect follow-up to their car conversation from season 2 (you know, when she asked "Don't you know how special your son is?"). We know how special he is Kie!!!

7. The Porch Talk

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

Okay this is such a small moment but I had to include it because Jiara is severely lacking PDA in OBX season 4 part 2. One of the most beautiful parts of this story is how these two communicate. Kiara isn't afraid to ask the serious questions and JJ is finally at a place where he can be vulnerable with her. After JJ admits that he does think Chandler's really his father, Kiara puts her head on his shoulder to comfort him and they sit in silence. These two don't need to talk because IMO, their connection is beyond words.

6. Diver Down

Netflix

Let’s be honest, one of the things fans were most excited to see now that JJ and Kiara are together is JJ’s protectiveness over Kiara. We’ve seen it plenty of times in the past, but things are a little different now that he’s her boyfriend, and it’s in full force when they’re attacked underwater and Kiara loses the scuba diving gear providing her oxygen.

From JJ stabbing the guy with a spear gun to him banging on the door of the ship, desperate to get back to Kiara and screaming her name, this sequence delivers. Then, of course, there’s the fact that he immediately gives her his air so she can breathe.

5. An Undercover Date

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

When trying to track down the man who attacked them, JJ says their plan is to “detain, extract, investigate,” and sneak up on him as spies would. Kiara likes it, declaring they’re undercover before suggesting they act like they’re on a date – if he knows what that looks like. JJ questions her and she mentions they’ve never been on a date before, challenging him to name just one. He then tells her that they're on a date right now, grabbing her hand so they can do date things together on the pier. What does that include? Snow cones and a dare to jump into the water.

4. “Us Against The Universe.”

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

Since they didn’t make their diving safety stop as Pope instructed them to, Kiara and JJ get the bends (bubbles in their blood and tissues), and the Pogues rush them to the hospital, where they have to spend 12 hours in a hyperbaric chamber. With 12 whole hours together, you can imagine where this going. But before that, since this is their first moment to reflect on what happened, JJ comments how she almost died, and says that he never should’ve let her go down there. Naturally, Kiara has a different way of looking at it, saying if she wasn’t there, the attacker would’ve gotten JJ instead.

Moral of the story? They save each other and it’s them against the universe. JJ also makes a cute call back to when he called her a Kook, and we love some good banter.

3. The Turtle Hatch

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

Kiara’s pure joy at the sight of a turtle hatch on the beach is a beautiful moment for the character, who's talked about saving the turtles since season 1. However, Ruthie and Topper have other plans for this precious moment and decide to drive their truck directly at the Pogues, who are trying to safely get the turtles to the ocean. Kiara notices and goes in front of the truck, trying to tell them that there’s a hatch and to go around, but they ignore her, running over the area not once but twice.

Why this is so high on my list is because of the way JJ stands by her side as she confronts the Kooks for killing a baby turtle. He lets her take charge and say what she needs to, only getting involved when Topper puts his hand on her. JJ's taken the lead in these conversations in the past, and to see the roles reverse like this just proves why they work so well together. Plus, there’s the whole “You come near her, or any of us ever again, and I’ll come back and kill every single one of you.”

2. “He’s Happy.”

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

In episode 4x01, one of the scenes that stands out is JJ’s dance celebration when their bait, tackle, and charter shop is finally in business. When Sarah jokingly asks if he’s okay, Kiara answers, “Yeah, he just never really had a home. He’s happy,” and that’s why this moment is number 2 on the list.
With JJ being such a complex character, he needs someone who fully understands him and what he’s been through, and that person is Kiara. She knows he has to learn how to be in a relationship, how to handle money, and how to allow happiness and love into his life. That’s perfectly shown in the way she makes her way over to him, telling JJ that she loves him before the two share their first kiss of the season. JJ's added “We did it" is a sweet sentiment to how he now views the two of them as a team, as well as how far they’ve come. Cheers to Captain Maybank!

1. "I Already Got My Wish"

Netflix

There was no way this conversation wasn't coming at number 1. Because while it's one of the saddest TV scenes I've ever seen, it's also such a standout. We all know JJ has been into Kiara since the very beginning (and fans picked up Kiara's supposedly unscripted interest in season 1 when she asked John B. if he told JJ about their kiss). And during the Outer Banks season 4 ending, JJ tells Kiara with his literal dying breath that he doesn't need to wish on the Blue Crown because he already had everything he ever wanted.

There are so many layers to this scene, like the music echoing when Kiara and the Pogues find JJ in the water a couple episodes before (which is its own callback to Kiara rescuing JJ from drowning in season 2), and I couldn't think of any better way to say goodbye to this character than to see him in Kiara's arms. P4L, JJ. P4L.

I love me some shoes – my closet can attest to it. And though my trusty (and timeless!) New Balance 530s and Adidas sneaks see plenty of daily wear, I'm really looking forward to a whole new season to introduce some new shoe trends to refresh my personal style!

This winter's shoe trends fill in the gaps that the shoes of summer and fall failed to in terms of function. Several of the shoe trends on this list – other than being cute AF – prioritize warmth and provide dry respite from the season's snows.

Of course, it wouldn't be winter without some good boots. In addition to playful slouchy styles, moto boots are definitely on this season's roster. I'm also thrilled about some newer riffs on ballet flats, loafers, and slippers that gained tons of traction over the past year. If you're looking to step up your shoe game for the final bits of 2024, look no further than these shoe trends that'll fit right in with your winter wardrobe!

Scroll on for the hottest winter shoe trends for 2024!

1. Slouchy Boots

Take a page from Charli XCX's style book with some slouchy boots this winter. This shoe trend has roots that go back to the '80s, but you can absolutely rock them with some modern flair.

Banana Republic Factory

Banana Republic Factory Vegan Tall Slouch Boots

A sleek black pair of boots like these are easily wearable with everything from maxi skirts and dresses, to jeans and jorts. I like that the slouch here is a bit more understated, though you can definitely find styles that are way more exaggerated. Jennifer Lopez recently rocked a statement trench coat with her slouchy boots, and the look's living in my head rent-free.

Free People

Free People Extra Slouch Boots

Remember what I said about exaggerated? This is what I was talkin' about. These suede boots from Free People embrace folds on folds, bringing an interesting bit of texture to this boho-leaning look. The pointed toe and stitch work throughout also give this pair some nice Western flair.

Steve Madden

Steve Madden Smith Red Leather Boots

Another fun iteration of slouchy boots you can wear this winter is the foldover boot. Though smoother, you still get quite the unique silhouette! These red boots were simply made to be seen.

2. Tall Moto Boots

Moto boots are the winter shoe trend to snag if you like your outfits to have a some edge. What sets them apart from a regular ol' boot is typically the hardware visible on the sides and a chunky heel that can withstand wear.

Nordstrom

Maguire Lucca Boots

These are extremely reminiscent of the famous Frye Campus boots, especially in color. The harness gives them a good biker edge, though you can also choose to remove it based on your mood. Since most moto boots hit right under the knee, they work just as well with mini dresses as they do wide-leg jeans.

Anthropologie

Ash Trinidad Boots

Black pairs with everything, plus the darker color adds a good amount of mystery to any moto-inspired winter look. I'd rock these with some vintage jeans and a warm, chunky sweater. Bonus points for a vampy makeup look.

Steve Madden

Steve Madden Ruskin Chestnut Suede Boots

Suede is undoubtedly one of the main stars in this winter's shoe trends, no matter what kind of shoe it's featured on. The more you wear these, the more character the suede takes on. It's a win-win.

3. Pointy Flats

Let's get straight to the point: pointed toes are in. They're perfectly fierce and feisty – I think they're the ultimate style for happy hours or nights out with the gals. You can shop all kinds of shoes with pointed toes, like boots, booties, and kitten heels, but pointy ballet flats are truly where it's at if your main consideration is comfort.

Nordstrom

Linea Paolo Noella Flats

The lace-up bow styling and dotted trim on these flats give 'em the cutest coquette vibe.

Free People

Jeffrey Campbell Lilly Buckle Slingback Flats

For an edgier take, these slingback flats boast some real eye-catching buckles. Pair them with some baggy jeans, a basic tee, and a chore jacket to totally nail all of this year's fashion trends.

Nordstrom

Jeffrey Campbell Pistil Pointed Toe Flats

These flats are iconic not only in shape, but in color, too. Brighten up the drab winter season with this playful burst of yellow! I promise you won't regret it.

4. Platform Mocaasins

You have the Clarks Wallabees to thank for the resurgence of moccasins this season. I personally adore them for their standout silhouette, and it's only a bonus that they're uber-comfortable for the cold temps! Moccasins come in many different styles across the brands we love, listed below.

Free People

Clarks Wallabee Boots

These booties are perfect for laid-back winter outings. Pop on a pair of jeans and your go-to cold weather layers, and you're ready to conquer anything – in style.

SeaVees

SeaVees Hayward Platforms

The contrast between these shoes' upper and lower halves is so cute to me. They were purposefully designed to be part-sneaker, part-loafer, so you can easily dress them up or down based on the day.

UGG

UGG Women's Disquette Alpine Slippers

Though more of a slipper, these UGGs still retain a ton of classic moccasin details. The laces and stitching are a dead giveaway, plus you get to enjoy the comfort of a slipper (thanks to the lining) without them wearing out super quick (just look at that thick outsole)!

5. Burgundy Loafers

Burgundy (AKA dark cherry red) proved to be one of 2024's hottest colors across all sectors of fashion. Thus, it's no surprise that it's been creeping its way towards footwear! Burgundy is quite the sophisticated color, finding its match with an equally sophisticated shoe style: loafers.

DSW

Mia Amore Hali Penny Loafers

Though more polished, you can still wear loafers casually with jeans and graphic tees. I think they look best when you have a basic sock on, too.

Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens Adrian Snaffle Pebble Grain Leather Kiltie Loafers

The burgundy color trend also gives you the perfect opportunity to work in a pop of color to your wardrobe without going too bold, if you're not really ready to invest in brights (or if they're just simply not your thing).

Steve Madden

Steve Madden Madison Burgundy Box Leather Loafers

You can literally put some prep in your step with these classic leather loafers.

6. Fur-Lined

Peeps of fur (or preferably, faux fur) are this winter's final prominent shoe trend, mostly thanks to the UGG brand's signature faux sheepskin lining. These styles are undeniably cozy and functional for providing all the warmth your feet need this season.

UGG

UGG Classic Chillapeak Boots

Boosted with furry texture and height from the platform soles, these UGGs are perfect for wearing aprés ski or just on those bone-chilling cold days in the city.

Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger Lined Lace-Up Snow Boots

These lined boots were specifically made to stand up to snow, but still look so stylish. I love the crossing laces and suede paneling on the sides that make them feel more a tad more upscale!

Nordstrom

UGG New Heights Genuine Shearling Cuffable Boots

You can wear these rolled up or cuffed down to show off more of the soft shearling lining. I love that these UGGs push past the brand's typical look with a funky curved footbed and chunky sole.

Budgeting for the year is the last thing most of us *want* to do, but it's probably the most important in order to achieve your life goals. "Whether you want to pay off debt or build wealth, the budget’s entire job is to increase your net worth," says Erin Skye Kelly, author of Get the Hell Out of Debt: The Proven 3-Phase Method That Will Radically Shift Your Relationship to Money. "A budget says that you matter, and your dreams matter — and when we take care of ourselves first financially, we are in a better position to help others." Here are some of the most-Googled questions about debt answered, plus realistic ways to get out of debt in 2025 and starting living your best life.

How Do I Pay Off Credit Card Debt?

If you're serious about reducing your debt, you'll have to cut back on your nonessential spending by setting a realistic monthly budget for expenses like dining out or entertainment. Come up with a payment strategy that works best for you and your current financial situation. For example, focus on paying off the card with the highest interest rate first while making minimum payments on others. Once the highest-interest debt is cleared, roll that payment into the card with the next highest interest rate. This approach reduces the overall interest you pay and can help you become debt-free faster.

What Is A Debt Snowball?

Shutterstock

A debt snowball is a debt repayment method where you focus on paying off your smallest debts first, regardless of interest rate, while making minimum payments on larger debts. The debt snowball method is popular because it builds momentum and motivation, giving you a psychological boost as you see debts disappearing one by one. Once the smallest debt is paid off, you take the amount you were paying on it and apply it to the next smallest debt. This creates a "snowball effect," where your available payment amount grows as each debt is eliminated, helping you pay off larger debts faster over time.

How Do I Get Out Of Debt?

Shutterstock

When it comes to getting out of debt, the method that works best for you might be different than what works best for someone else. To get started, list all your debts, including balances, interest rates, and minimum payments. This gives you a clear picture of what you owe. Analyze your income and expenses to see where you can cut back and direct any extra funds toward your debt. Avoid new debt: Shift to a cash or debit-only system to prevent accumulating more debt while paying off what you already owe.

There are a variety of factors, from financial situation to income to dependents, but no matter what your life look like right now, here are some realistic ways to help you conquer your debt.

A little budget diary is a way to take stock of all your monthly and annual expenses, such as subscriptions, streaming services, and groceries — and write them all down in your LBD, says Brit + Co's Money School instructor Nicole Lapin. "You'll reference this all year — weekly is best — so you'll want to start off on the right foot with an easy-to-reference LBD. Don't make it hard. It's an easy task that will help you get organized quickly," she says.

Be Realistic About Your Expenses

"Do not be aspirational with your numbers," says Skye Kelly. "Pay attention to how you ACTUALLY live and how you ACTUALLY spend and work from there." Track your expenses for a month to create an accurate budget, review your paycheck and follow the 50-20-30 rule. These are the percentages you should spend on essentials, your future, and your lifestyle (non-essentials) with the goal to live within your means and eventually start saving and investing.

Set Your Sights On Big Goals

B+C

Whether it's that dream bucket-list trip or a buying your first home, think about what your long-term goals are and think big when planning a budget. "When we are committed to a massive financial goal (retiring early and traveling the world with your life partner) suddenly the decision between roses or calla lilies as a wedding bouquet seem meaningless, and we are more inclined to find ways to spend less so we can meet our long-term financial goals," says Skye Kelly. She adds: "Create a budget for the milestone, stay resourceful and use points, seasonal sales, and help or hand-me-downs where you can."

"Spring Clean" Your Finances

B+C

Take a moment to organize your expenses. Dedicate a weekend afternoon and delete unused subscriptions, close and consolidate accounts, check in with your savings and retirement plans to make sure they're working for you, reduce auto-renewals, and unload credit card debt byconsolidating them into a single low-interest personal loan. It will feel as good, if not better, than spring cleaning your house, plus think about the money you'll have saved in that afternoon.

Find Your Side Hustle

B+C

Beyond just reducing your expenses, look at ways you can increase your income so you can start saving andinvesting to grow your wealth. "Increasing income might look like side jobs, part-time employment, creating an income stream, selling clutter around the home, or creating a product or service that meets the demands of the marketplace," says Skye Kelly. Look at selling clothes on resale sites, having a garage sale come spring, selling books online, starting an Etsy shop if you have a creative interest... anything that will add some extra cash in your pocket each month.

It's OK If It's Not Perfect

B+C

"Because budgets are rooted in math, we tend to see everything as right or wrong, which *shudder* brings up a lot of grade-school math class shame for many of us," says Skye Kelly. "If you plan your budget at the beginning of the month and at the end of the month it was only 80% accurate, you are likely killin’ it financially. I’ve asked hundreds of financial experts over the years ‘how many times did you get the budget exactly right?’ and every single answer has been ‘zero times.’"

Avoid Making Money Decisions During Hard Times

B+C

Mental wellness plays a big role in how we view our expenses and often we can make decisions in order to make us feel better (retail therapy, anyone?) instead of making healthy long-term financial decisions. "Having a line item in the budget for guilt-free spending is critical if you can afford it," says Skye Kelly. "This guilt-free spending money is there for times you want to splurge even though you might not be able to justify it."

Skye Kelly says it's best to avoid major financial decisions if you can for at least 6 months:

  • After a significant death or when you are grieving
  • While you or a loved one are experiencing a critical illness or at the onset of a new disability
  • After a major breakup or divorce
  • When you’ve entered into a new romantic relationship
  • If you’ve been diagnosed with or suspect you have a mental illness and are awaiting treatment

"During these times we are highly likely to make emotional or impulsive decisions. Give yourself time to regulate some of the higher intensity emotions that might be driving the urge to spend."

Take our favorite celebrity BFF's, Taylor Swift and Blake Lively, and our favorite celebrity couple, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, and you truly get one big happy family. Earlier this summer, Blake and Ryan showed up to the Eras Tour to support the "Fortnight" singer, and on July 25, Taylor returned the love by making a rare lengthy post to her Instagram story.

Here's everything you need to know about Taylor Swift's relationship with Blake Lively's kids as their godmother.

Taylor Swift/Instagram

Taylor Swift posted a photo to her Instagram story featuring Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy — all of whom are involved in Deadpool & Wolverine, in theaters July 26!

"Over the past few years I have watched one of my best friends on the planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time, energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film," she says. "He's created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich."

After joking that Ryan, Blake, and Shawn randomly crashed her photo, Taylor continues, saying, "Shout out to Wade Wilson [the character played by Ryan Reynolds], aka my godkids' sperm donor!"

Ryan Reynolds had the funniest reaction, and told Deadline, "I'm going to need that on my gravestone, actually."

"Yeah, that is kind of it. She is the godparent to my daughters," the Deadpool actor continued. "That was very sweet. Not just sweet, that was, like, you could probably quantify a box office based on Taylor just doing something like that."

In the past, Ryan Reynolds has been vocal about how much his kids (James, Inez, Betty, and Olin) love Taylor Swift, and the family's appearance at the Eras Tour even went viral!

"I think what's most exciting for them is that for the longest time they just thought Taylor's just like an aunt, like a friend of Mommy and Daddy that's very, very close, almost family," he says onThe Jess Cagle Show. "And then they went to a concert one day and were like, 'Ohhhhh, this isn't a hobby.'"
