This Easy Hack Will Make Those Expensive Candles Last Twice As Long

There are certain things that are totally worth a splurge. An appointment at the hair salon with a professional colorist. A pair of jeans that fit just right. An international plane ticket to cure that case of wanderlust. But then, there are those more expensive purchases that are a bit harder to justify. A luxury candle is one item that definitely falls under that category. Do we want our studio apartment to smell like that spa we can’t afford? Yes, 100 percent. But can we justify spending $40 on said candle? Debatable. If you do decide to go for the splurge and want that aroma to last as long as possible, there’s a super easy hack you should know about.

Basically, when you burn candles for a short amount of time, it creates something called “candle tunneling.” WTF is candle tunneling? We’re so glad you asked. You know when you light a candle briefly and it only melts the wax in the middle, creating a soft hole around the wick and leaving all the edges unmelted? That’s candle tunneling.

If you create candle tunneling on the first burn, you may have just cut your candle’s life in half. Womp, womp. So how do you prevent such a tragedy? UK magazine LOOK has the answer. The publication writes, “The first time you burn your candle, ensure that the pool of liquid wax that forms is the exact same size as the top surface of the candle. That initial burn should take about an hour per inch diameter of candle. If your candle is three inches wide, this will probably take three hours. Four inches wide, four hours etc. From then on, your candle should burn evenly every time you light it.” Wow, mind blown. May your candle’s lives be long and odorous, people.

Flying doesn’t always have to be a stressful, chaotic experience. In fact, there are plenty of genius tricks to keep in your back pocket to make traveling as seamless and smooth as possible! From sneaky packing strategies to in-flight essentials you didn’t know you needed, these 7 simple travelhacks might just change the way you fly forever.

Scroll on for our 7 go-to travel hacks for making the trip easier every time.

Timur Weber / PEXELS

1. Roll your clothes.

Rolling your clothes is a huge help in saving space inside your backpack, duffle bag, or suitcase. Rolling garments tightly and packing them in is surprisingly much more efficient than traditional folding methods – plus it reduces wrinkles. Rolling comes in especially handy for bulkier items like maxi dresses, jeans, and jackets.

2. Use packing cubes.

If you want to maximize even more space within your bag, packing cubes are definitely worth investing in. You can still roll your garments to pack ‘em, but placing them in packing cubes compresses their size down further. Plus, with multiple packing cubes, you can label each one and keep your things organized and easily accessible.

3. Bring an empty water bottle.

If you’re not doing this at the airport, what are you doing?! Probably spending $8 on a single bottled water. C’mon – bringing an empty water bottle is the simplest of all travel hacks. Just arrive with it completely empty to later fill it after passing through the TSA line. You’ll avoid paying for overpriced airport water and have limitless refill opportunities, even after you've arrived at your destination.

4. Stuff small items inside shoes.

In the vein of more space-saving packing tricks, don’t underestimate the power of your shoes! From sneakers to boots, it’s so easy to use the insides of them to pack socks, lip balms, phone chargers, jewelry, or other small items.

5. Use a pill organizer for small items.

You can also easily leverage a pill organizer for the smallest of your small items like rings, earrings, earplugs, and more. Of course, you can still use a pill organizer for necessary medications or those ‘just in case’ painkillers.

6. Bring a travel pillow and eye mask.

Travel pillows and eye masks are absolutely essential for long flights, or even shorter trips that you foresee yourself sleeping on. Bring them on your next flight, and you’ll immediately notice the difference from not flying with these must-have accessories.

7. Download entertainment before you board.

Finally, to avoid risking total in-flight boredom, make sure you plan ahead and download your desired form of entertainment beforehand! Since you can’t always rely on in-flight wifi, pick out and download the movies, music, or audiobooks you want to tune into in advance. For a screen-free moment, you can never go wrong with a book or crossword puzzle booklet!

The Handmaid's Tale is one of the best, yet eerily specific dystopian shows we've watched which is why we couldn't wait to see Offred get her sweet revenge. It's without a doubt Margaret Atwood's most memorable books so we're excited The Testaments, the sequel to the exhilarating series, is in the works! The Testaments is set to follow the book's plot (via Variety) and will feature three central characters — Aunty Lydia, Agnes, and Daisy. As the Republic of Gilead continues its rampage, the intersection of their lives changes the course of history.

Deadline's official synopsis of the show says it's a "coming-of-age story" that follows "a new generation of young women in Gilead, grappling with the bleak future that awaits them." The bleak part is "growing up in Gilead is all they have ever known, having no tangible memories of the outside world before their indoctrination into this life."

During a time where marriage is highly praised and sought after, these young girls will have to find friendship among each other and anyone who's willing to positively guide them from girlhood to being women. Not only that, but they'll have to see if they have what it takes to break free from Gilead's oppressive reign.

As much as I adore coffee, you could not convince me to drink it black. I like my drinks sweet (but not too sweet) and creamy (but not too creamy), with plenty of flavor that doesn’t drown out the actual coffee notes. But sometimes, the classic coffee-creamer combo gets old and I need a way to spice up my morning joe. Luckily, there are endless ways to upgrade coffee that take your brew from boring to beautiful.

I polled my inner circle (we’re all coffee snobs to a degree) about their #1 favorite add-in that truly makes their coffee shine. These 6 simple coffee upgrades are all affordable, easy, and compatible with all kinds of brewing methods. Next time your pick-me-up needs a pick-me-up, try out one of these hacks!

Brigitte Tohm / PEXELS

1. Lavender

Lavender in a latte is sheer heaven. I’ve DIY’ed my own lavender syrup before (it’s too easy), but you can also buy it ready-made! Any sort of syrup makes for an easy coffee upgrade, really. Brands like Jordan's Skinny Mixes and Torani are my go-to’s, and they sell a vast array of flavors to suit any taste!

Lisa Fotios / PEXELS

2. Cinnamon

I’m convinced cinnamon belongs in everything. I put it in my protein pancakes, yogurt bowls, and cookies, but it’s also a supreme add-in for coffee and even matcha lattes! The warm flavor notes of cinnamon are also perfect for cozying up in the fall and winter.

Julissa Helmuth / PEXELS

3. Honey

Cinnamon in coffee gets even better when you put honey in the mix with cinnamon. It’s one of my pal’s absolute go-to’s in lattes (hot or iced), but it also works just as well in hot drip coffees or cold brews.

Andrea Davis / PEXELS

4. Oat milk

Oat milk (or milk of any kind) is a perfect coffee hack for those who can’t stand black coffee. It helps cut the sharpness and acidity of the brew, adding some creaminess and color to each sip. I find that oat milk is the best pairing for breakfast time!

Amazon

5. Protein shake

In place of milk, I also really like adding a splash of a protein shake to my coffee for a dose of creaminess and flavor. The protein is just an added bonus!

I really love Koia’s protein shakes since they sell a lot of different flavors, from Cinnamon Cereal to Pumpkin Spice.

JaYoung Choi / PEXELS

6. Brown sugar

I’ve used brown sugar many times to make a Starbucks copycat brown sugar shaken espresso right at home. I’ll simply add equal parts instant coffee and brown sugar to a mason jar with ice, shake it up, and top it off with cinnamon and milk.

If you prefer sipping on something a little less fancy, adding a spoonful to a plain hot coffee could be really delightful, too!

Target

7. Cold foam

The final (and tastiest) coffee hack I drink on the regular is cold foam! Target sells a good range of cold foam cans in various flavors, but I’ve really come to love the salted caramel iteration. It’s perfect for topping of iced coffees for a nice mid-day treat!

When Netflix refreshes its content library each month, viewers everywhere are presented with shiny new titles to choose from. But at the same time, we're also forced to say goodbye to others.

April is no exception, and several fan favorites across genres are slated to leave the streaming platform. So, if you've been meaning to rewatch the classic rom-com Love Actually or check out Hereditary, the horror film that had everyone talking in 2018, now is the time.

Here are five titles that have already departed the streaming giant as of April 1 and where else you can find them now, as well as five more that you can still watch before they're gone for good on Netflix.

Scroll to see all the movies leaving Netflix for April 2025...

Paramount Pictures

1. Interstellar

Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is a sci-fi epic that explores survival, sacrifice, and the unknown of space. Set in a future where Earth is becoming uninhabitable, the film follows former NASA pilot Cooper, played by Matthew McConaughey, as he embarks on a mission through a wormhole to find a new home for humanity.

If you missed this blockbuster 2014 movie before it left Netflix on April 1, don't worry. You can still catch it on Peacock, Paramount+, and Prime Video.

Warner Brothers

2. Happy Feet

Happy Feet quickly became a heartwarming childhood classic after it premiered in 2006. The animated film tells the story of Mumble, an emperor penguin who, unlike his peers, can't carry a tune. However, he makes up for it with his top-notch tap-dancing skills.

As Mumble struggles to fit in, his story teaches viewers about self-acceptance and embracing individuality. Happy Feet departed Netflix on April 1 but is available on Apple TV and Prime Video.

New Line Cinemas

3. Rush Hour

Rush Hour is an action-comedy movie that pairs martial arts legend Jackie Chan with Chris Tucker for a ridiculously funny adventure. The plot centers around the kidnapping of a Chinese diplomat's daughter in Los Angeles, prompting a Hong Kong Detective named Lee, played by Jackie Chan, to be sent to the United States.

Yet, the FBI doesn't want anything to do with Lee, so they stick him with eccentric LAPD Detective Carter, played by Chris Tucker. Even though the pair has their differences, they wind up learning to work together in order to crack the case.

Unfortunately, all three Rush Hour movies are no longer on Netflix as of April 1. To catch up on this film series, rent them on Prime Video.

Universal Pictures

4. Love Actually

Love Actually came out over two decades ago, in 2003, but despite its age, the movie has remained a holiday favorite. It weaves together nine interconnecting stories that explore the many forms of love.

From a newly elected prime minister, played by Hugh Grant, falling for a junior staffer to a sister struggling to balance family and romance, the plot captures both the joys and complexities of relationships.

If you missed this feel-good film before it said goodbye to Netflix, you can still find it on Prime Video and Apple TV.

Warner Brothers

5. Space Jam

Space Jam is a '90s classic that brought together basketball legend Michael Jordan and the iconic Looney Tunes.

When an evil alien theme park owner named Swackhammer sends his minions to capture Bugs Bunny and the rest of the gang to serve as an attraction at the park, Bugs challenges them to a basketball game to win their freedom. The stakes get tougher when the aliens steal the skills of NBA stars like Charles Barkley and Larry Bird, so Michael Jordan steps in to help.

Space Jam may have vanished from Netflix, but it's still available to stream on Hulu, Paramount+, Prime Video, and Apple TV.

Paramount Pictures

6. A Quiet Place Part II

This gripping sequel, which came out in 2020, thrusts viewers back into the post-apocalyptic world created by John Krasinski, who wrote, directed, and co-produced the film. There, silence is key to survival because blind aliens that hunt by sound have taken over.

In A Quiet Place Part II, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmons, and Noah Jupe appear in the same roles, along with newcomers Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou. Be sure to watch it before it leaves Netflix on April 12, or catch it later on Paramount+, Prime Video, and Apple TV.

A24

7. Hereditary

Written and directed by Ari Aster, Hereditary is a psychological horror that earned its place as a modern classic. In fact, it boasts a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn't easy to come by.

Hereditary follows a family who, after the death of their secretive grandmother, start experiencing eerie and unsettling events. This film is set to leave Netflix on April 15, and following its departure, you can watch it on Prime Video and Apple TV.

Nickelodeon

8. The Legend of Korra

The world quickly fell in love with Avatar: The Last Airbender when it was first released in 2005. The Legend of Korra is a continuation and centers around a fearless girl named Korra, who steps into her role as the new Avatar.

Set 70 years after Aang's time, Korra arrives in Republic City to master airbending when she finds herself caught in the middle of political unrest and a rising anti-bending movement.

The Legend of Korra features stunning animations and complex themes, but sadly, all four seasons of the show are leaving Netflix on April 16. After that, you can watch them on Paramount+, Prime Video, or Apple TV.

Sony Pictures Entertainment

9. No Hard Feelings

No Hard Feelings is a raunchy yet surprisingly heartwarming comedy that stars Jennifer Lawrence as Maddie, a woman on the verge of losing her childhood home. So, she takes on an unusual job: dating a shy, awkward 19-year-old, played by Andrew Barth Feldman, to help him break out of his shell before college.

This rom-com is filled with sharp humor, but it'll no longer be on Netflix following April 21. Stream it before then or catch it afterward on Prime Video and Apple TV.

Universal Pictures

10. Minions

Finally, Minions, which came out in 2015, is actually a prequel to the 2010 film Despicable Me. It follows the yellow creatures as they search for a new villain to serve, ultimately landing on Scarlet Overkill.

Minions is an enjoyable watch for people of all ages. Catch it before it leaves Netflix on April 25, or find it afterward on Prime Video and Apple TV.
