While not all celeb collaborations have always been a match made in heaven — remember when famed fashion house Ungaro tapped Lindsay Lohan as an “artistic adviser?” — here are five that successfully meshed a celebrity’s personal image with a brand’s established vibe.
1. Kate Moss for TopShop: This is perhaps one of the most successful fashion collabs of them all. London high street brand TopShop first tapped the leggy supermodel icon as a designer in 2007, and she was so popular that she came back in 2014 for another collection. Her return was heralded by hundreds of shoppers who waited on the blustery streets of London to get the first look. And no wonder — the effortlessly cool style of Moss blended well with TopShop’s urban girl chic. (Photo via Tim P. Whitby/Getty)
2. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for Rosie for Autograph: Launched in 2014 by British favorite Marks & Spencer, this willowy supermodel (and soon-to-be wife of Jason Statham) fronted a new lingerie line called Rosie for Autograph. The pieces in the collection were mostly floral satin, and were delicate and lovely — just like Rosie herself. Her line was so successful that she followed it with a beauty line earlier this year. 3. Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony: She’s the queen of East Village cool, so it was no surprise then that Opening Ceremony invited Chloe Sevigny on as a designer for six years, during which Sevigny managed to inject her personal style into the brand’s established look. The actress has also inserted herself in the lineup for previous shows, such as in 2013, when she struck a bored, insouciant pose — just like most of her on-screen characters. 4. Kendall and Kylie Jenner for PacSun: Let’s face it: The Kardashian-Jenners are real collab fans, and not every one of them works (I mean, come on — there is no way Balmain is something an entire family should wear, yet they always look like a militarized army of body-con mannequins). But the PacSun collaboration — which started in 2013 and is still going on — with the two youngest members of the Kardashian Klan touts a sunny, Californian-streetwear-meets-Coachella vibe, which is pretty much still their public personas today. 5. Kanye West for Adidas: Yeezy has always been an avowed sneakerhead, touting past collaborations with Nike and even Louis Vuitton. But his partnership with Adidas in 2014 has completely changed how people perceive the brand, and in 2015, the two teamed up again for his apparel line. Adidas is now synonymous with Mr. West’s unforgiving aesthetic of flesh-colored tights and military chic, which is really not a bad thing for them. (Photo via Theo Wargo/Getty)
