We Got The Scoop On Those Grammy Charcuterie Boards—Here's How You Can Make Your Own

classic Charcuterie Boards with meat cheese and garnishes

Charcuterie boards are essentially upscale Lunchables for adults — so no wonder millennials are so obsessed with them. They make for some of the best finger foods around and fit just about any occasion, whether you're planning the ultimate Galentine's Day bash or you're hosting a more rowdy Super Bowl party. If you tuned into the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on February 5, you might have noticed the colorful, next-level charcuterie boards decorating your favorite celebs' tables. We had to know more, so we connected with the creative behind the stunning boards: Lauren Delp of Silverlake Socialite. She gave us her pro tips for how you can master your own charcuterie board and personalize it to spotlight your favorite flavors and ingredients.

Party Prep

Before we get into the ins and outs of making your own board, we had to ask about the Grammys. As we expected, prepping for the event ended up being a huge undertaking. "I will say the reason I think that we could do it is because we've done it before," Delp says. "I have a vendor who made the custom boards (Iler Woods Woodworking), and I literally called him and said, 'We have a huge order. Can you do it in three days?' I mean, he literally hand carved 125 of those boards, like, with three days' notice. So yeah, it was wild, it took a lot of very fast planning."

Needless to say, Delp understands anyone who finds themselves in need of a last-minute appetizer. Even if you have to wait to grab fruits and veggies (this ensures they're fresh the day of), you can start prepping your cheeses, meats, and crackers a few days in advance. "Any pieces or elements of it that you feel like you can prepare in advance, do that so then when it's time to actually build the board, you have most of your ingredients ready to go."

Staying On-Trend

We've seen many forms of appetizer boards, from butter boards to brunch boards, but Delp is pretty sure that charcuterie boards are here to stay. "I've been making some form of a cheese board for the last 20 years, and my mom made cheese boards for 20 years before that," she says. Even if they continue to evolve, wine and cheese will always be a classic pairing, especially when you're ordering something like a Classic Cheese + Charcuterie Board.

"It's something for everybody," Delp adds. "If you're vegetarian, there's great cheeses and fruits and veggies. If you're vegan, we always have great hummuses, veggies, fruits, nuts, and dried fruits. So I think it provides a really nice selection for people."

If you're looking to change it up, consider adding caviar to your board. "I feel like caviar is really having a moment," Delp says. "Caviar with all of the accompaniments. You know, the capers, and the chives, and chopped hard boiled eggs, crème fraîche, blini, Carr's Crackers, caper berries, etc."

But looking to the future, Delp is excited to try things she's never done before. "I'm always thinking of new ideas, because I feel like you have to continue to evolve and push yourself and come up with new ideas to keep your your company relevant.

"I've actually been thinking about the idea of a pickled board. So like a whole variety of really nice olives and cornichons," she says. "I have a company I work with, it makes the most incredible pickled veggies. So pickled purple cauliflower, pickled green beans, carrots, you can go on and on."

How To Take Your Charcuterie Board To The Next Level

The Basics

Every charcuterie board needs a solid foundation so that you end the event with a full stomach. Meats, cheeses, and crackers are a classic trio that pair perfectly on any kind of board you're looking to make.

Meat

"Some cured meat, like classic salami, is great," Delp says. "People love that, we do prosciutto as well as a hard salami." Our favorite thing to do to take the board to the next level is to fold salami or prosciutto into flowers. It's so easy and looks so good!

Cheeses

"It's good to have a nice combination of soft cheeses, hard cheeses, and then goat's milk cheeses and sheep's milk cheeses," Delp says. Mixing Brie, Manchego, and cheddar is a nice way to add some creamy texture while providing different flavors. "We use tons of different cheeses when we do our boards, but you definitely could get away with just doing a couple of those and people would be happy."

"A simple way for people at home to make a board that feels elevated is also to think about cutting the cheeses in different ways." Try cutting a jagged chunk of cheddar paired with neat slices of Manchego. "You also can stand up larger slices in alternate directions," Delp says. "So then that creates a totally different look and then also creates height and dimension in the middle of the board."

Crackers

Since you want the cheese, meats, and garnishes to take center stage on your board, Delp recommends finding crackers with a barely-there flavor. "I feel like it's worth going the extra mile or paying a few extra dollars for the nicer Italian crackers like the Carr's Water Cracker...So then the cheese is kind of the main character."

The Embellishments

Garnishes are a great way to take your charcuterie boards to the next level by adding the perfect finishing touch because it really is all in the details. The way you organize the embellishments is also a great way to help people know what will taste good together.

"You could arrange it where you have the brie with the honeycomb and the fig and the cracker all in one section or a ramekin of honey so people understand, 'Oh, okay, I can slice this cheese, put it on this cracker with the honey, and this flavor goes together,'" Delp says. "This also helps people know what goes well together."

Color

"If you have a little section where it's crackers and Brie," Delp says, "throw in a bright strawberry or a pile of raspberries with pomegranate seeds to generate a big pop of color amidst a section that doesn't have as much color."

Stick to a color palette, like pomegranate seeds for Valentine's Day, or have fun picking fruits and veggies in all your favorite colors.

Texture

You don't have to stick to tried-and-true classics like rosemary or sunflowers seeds (even though we love those). "We like to sprinkle dried mandarins on top," Delp says. "It gives it that extra oomph."

The Price

While making your own charcuterie board can get pricey, there is one easy way to keep things budget-friendly: scaling it back. "You can do it well for less," Delp says. Be selective about what goes on your board. Choose one or two of your favorite cheeses and one or two of your favorite garnishes. "Sure, people will eat pretzels if you put them on there, but does that really elevate your board? Does that really take it to the next level? So do it with a little more of a discerning eye."

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I’ve fully assumed the role of the #1 charcuterie-maker in my family. Maybe it’s the perfectionist in me, but I go absolutely crazy for laying out an elegant snack spread, no matter the occasion.

I’m fixing to make the journey back home to Texas this week ahead of the holidays, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn't excited to absolutely pop off on this year’s Christmas food plans – charcuterie included.

At this point, I’ve made about 20 charcuterie boards for so many different occasions. From 2-person Valentine’s Day dates to larger Christmas parties (I’m talkin’ 15+ people), I’m a self-proclaimed pro, and am happy to share all of my best tips for creating the ultimate charcuterie!

Christmas charcuteries in particular are super fun – as the board-maker, it’s your chance to not only put together the perfect series of snacks that recalls the spirit of the season, but impress all of your friends and family members while you’re at it.

If you’ve ever wondered, “How can a charcuterie look so good?”, you’re in the right place.

My top 4 tips will guide you through all the steps of the Christmas charcuterie board process so you can create your own Pinterest-worthy spread in no time!

Meredith Holser

1. Get a good board.

Throughout the years, I’ve learned that your charcuterie is only as good as the board you use to craft it. I’ve had moments where I tried to use a single dinner plate or even a plastic cutting board for my creations, and, well, they just didn’t cut it.

The perfect charcuterie board is durable, easy to transport, and easy to clean once all the snacks are gone. Of course, the size of your board matters, too, but that really all depends on the amount of people you plan to serve.

Uncommon Goods

Uncommon Goods Compact Swivel Cheese Board with Knives

I was lucky enough to be gifted this wonderful foldable charcuterie board ($87) from Uncommon Goods (thanks, mom!), and it’s my go-to for small gatherings (more typical than large parties, per my lifestyle).

I also really enjoy it because it’s easy to travel with if I’m setting up a snack spread at someone else’s place. The foldability also makes it a breeze to stow away in my kitchen cupboards between uses.

My only (very minor) complaint about it is that the nooks and crannies between the folding mechanisms can be hard to fully clean.

Crate & Barrel

Carson Acacia Cheeseboard

If you plan to take your charcuterie skills to a larger get-together, I recommend looking for a long board, like these ones from Amazon ($65) or Crate & Barrel (above, $70).

Meredith Holser

2. Variety is key.

Now that the board’s out of the way, it’s time to get into the fun stuff – the food!

My personal preference when it comes to charcuterie boards is that they have a ton of variety. Not just variety in flavors, but color, texture, and layout.

Having a wide range of different snacks will please the palette and the eyes, which is the number one key in impressing those people that hover around the snack table, leaving them with a lasting memory about your amazing charcuterie work.

Meredith Holser

As a quick guide, I always strive to have at least one item from each of these categories on my charcuterie board: meats, cheeses, crackers, nuts, olives, fruits, and chocolates (because who doesn’t like chocolate?!).

Bonus points for fancy picks like veggies, dips, breads, honeys, baked bries, cookies, pastries, and dipping oils.

Meredith Holser

Now, all of that is just for a regular-schmegular charcuterie moment. When it comes to a Christmas charcuterie board, you may want to stick to seasonal foods (like Christmas cookies, cheese balls, and rosemary crackers) and flavors (like cranberry, gingerbread, and peppermint) to really nail the theme. Using red and green foods is also welcome!

Wencee Minimo

It’s no secret that I love to shop at Trader Joe’s for all of my charcuterie needs. They carry a ton of items in each of the aforementioned categories, and the best part is their products typically favor the more-elevated culinary palette (not to sound pretentious AF!).

Plus, their aisles change according to the seasons, so you’re bound to find the perfect items for your Christmas charcuterie board in a single trip. I can’t recommend TJ’s more!

Meredith Holser

3. Get creative with presentation.

The presentation of your charcuterie is the part that people will remember the most, which is why I fully lean into my creativity to create an eye-catching snack spread.

My best advice is to simply be patient and don’t rush this step! It should be pure fun – sometimes it’s even more fun for me than actually eating the charcuterie!

You really can’t mess up the presentation, and if you do, everything is easily rearrangeable.

Meredith Holser

Meat roses – it sounds so silly, but making meat roses was the first thing that really leveled up my boards’ presentations. You can create them by layering slices of cured meats (like salami) around the rim of a glass. I watched a quick TikTok tutorial to learn how (thank you, internet!). This YouTube video also has some really helpful and clear tips!

I also enjoy employing methods like alternating and layering different cheeses, stylishly folding meats onto toothpicks, stuffing olives, creatively cutting berries, and more.

Amazon

Selamica Ceramic Dipping Bowls Set

The next tip kind of goes hand-in-hand with my notes about using a good board, but it definitely plays into presentation: using small bowls to section out things like olives, baked bries (my fave), jellies, and dips. Tiny bowls like this set of 6 from Amazon ($23) not only look cute, but they help in separating charcuterie items that shouldn’t touch other things (AKA oily olives or piping-hot baked cheeses).

You’ll learn more and more about your charcuterie presentation preferences through practice. Plus, no two boards are the same, so you really have free reign on each one!

Meredith Holser

4. Scale your charcuterie appropriately for the occasion.

If you’re going to serve a big Christmas party, you’ll want to up the ante with the size of your charcuterie spread. As I noted with the size of your board, you’ll want to have enough snacks to fill the blank space on it.

The real key with this is just being prepared – make sure you get a solid head count ahead of your charcuterie shopping trip, and you’ll know exactly how much to buy!

If you’re only feeding a few mouths, it’s okay to keep it small! For reference, between two people, I only need to grab one of each item. For larger gatherings above 10 people, I might be extra cautious and grab 3 or 4 of each.

I’ve found that meats, cheeses, and crackers are typically what’s gone from my boards first, so I’d recommend focusing on having enough options there for your own creation.

Meredith Holser

Another important thing to take into consideration is if your guests have any special dietary needs like allergies. That way, you can know what to avoid (or set out separately from the main charcuterie board if you’re up to making a couple of options).

Meredith Holser

If you’ve committed to the charcuterie for a function at someone else’s house, make sure you arrive in advance with all the components packaged. Building the board beforehand opens up the possibility of it getting messed up during travel.

I’d tow along my board, a bag full of the snacks, and some necessary prep items like knives and bowls. Bringing your own paper plates to coordinate could also be helpful to the host!

Every Gilmore Girls fan knows that Luke and Lorelai were always endgame. Despite the fact they had to watch each other get into different relationships (while I love Max, I'll never be able to stomach the way Christopher acts ugh). But there's one moment in an early Gilmore Girls episode that teases Luke and Lorelai getting married, and even though I've watched it countless times I never caught it before!

Here's that Luke and Lorelai wedding detail you probably missed in Gilmore Girls season 2.

Lorelai teased her wedding date way before 'A Year in the Life'

@dianaathome Caught on my 11523rd rewatch 🤯 #gilmoregirls#gilmoregirlstiktok @valeriescateyescream ♬ original sound - Diana @ Home

Gilmore Girls season 2, episode 3, "Red Light on the Wedding Night" opens with Lorelai and Rory tasting Fran's cakes at Weston's Bakery ahead of Lorelai's wedding to Max. And when Fran insists the girls stay to figure out exactly which cake flavor they like the best, sticking firm to the idea that there's nothing more important than your wedding day, Lorelai doesn't bat an eye when she says, "Well, it ain't Guy Fawkes Day." And TBH, Fran's confused response is exactly how I felt the first time I watched this episode.

We all know Lorelai gets cold feet when she realizes she's not actually in love with Max and bails on him before the wedding. After all, it's definitely more memorable than Lorelai's joke, which I've always taken to be a throwaway line (she really does have a random sense of humor). That is, until @dianaathome on Tiktok pointed out that Guy Fawkes Day, a British holiday celebrating the failed Gunpowder Plot that happened in 1605, takes place on November 5 — the same day as Luke and Lorelai's wedding in A Year in the Life.

I can't believe I never caught this! And I'm not the only one. "I don't know if I'm more impressed that someone snuck this in or that you found it!" one user commented, while another says, "It is Helen Pai and Dave Rygalski's anniversary. [Luke and Lorelai's] original wedding date June 3rd is Helen Pai's birthday!" (Helen Pai is the real-life, albeit loose, inspiration for Lane Kim!)

Now, while this is a super fun connection to find, a lot of Gilmore Girls viewers are realizing just how much they dislike Lorelai's behavior in the actual scene (as in, eating all the cake knowing Sookie was already preparing one). And it's sparked a ton of conversation.

"I felt so bad for [Fran]! She put all the effort and make all those adorable and tasty cakes and the two of them are like “Hehe screw ethics we get to eat free cake!”since Sooki was just going to make one for free," one Reddit user says. "Maybe it’s the service industry in me talking but I can’t get over how annoyed I would be."

Another goes so far as to say this scene is why they "I like to think this is the reason she wouldn’t sell the Dragonfly to Lorelai & Sookie. Revenge."

If Fran's cake tasting really was free, then eating her out of house and home just for fun is definitely not cool, Lorelai. (Although I still think it's not as unrealistic as her showing up to Chilton in a tee and shorts).

Did you know the colors you are surrounded with can enhance your mood and energy? Think about the color palette in your closet right now. What colors are you most drawn to? Before you freak out if black or gray are your go-to colors for your daily wear (guilty!) maybe after reading this, it will inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and try to work with new colors. What if I tell you that your astrological sign has a designated color palette to support your journey?

Color therapy, or “chromotherapy,” can supplement your well-being. Integrating astrology will also help you pinpoint the colors you are most attracted to and how to become more in tune with yourself. Astrology is a fantastic modality for gauging self-acceptance while also becoming your best self, and color therapy is the therapeutic means to rebalance and power up your goals.

Working with the colors assigned to your zodiac sign can support your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Read on to learn how color therapy works and which color palette best suits your zodiac sign!

Here's how to make color therapy work for your zodiac sign — and feel good doing it!

What is color therapy?

Helena Lopes

Color therapy is a holistic, non-invasive modality used for the body. Historical figures such as Pythagoras (circa 2,500 years ago) applied “color light” therapeutically, while “color halls” were used as a means of treatment in ancient Egypt, China, and India. The modern medical pioneer patron of color therapy was Niels Finsen of Denmark in 1877. He discovered that visible light was how ultraviolet or red light energy could heal wounds, bacterial infections, or scars. Sounds familiar? In this present, infrared light therapy is used for pain relief, improved sleep, inflammation, facials, detoxes, and more. Knowing this, you can see why color and light restores our mind, body, and emotional needs.

There are many ways in which you can work best with color therapy. To implement physical changes, you can update your selection of colors in your clothing, nail colors, makeup palette, or home decor. For the mind and emotional system, you can work with colors through visualization practices like art, meditation, or a color therapy lamp.

How Can Color Therapy and Astrology Work Together?

let mous

Color therapy works by frequency or wavelengths of colors, which can have a physiological or psychological impact on our well-being. Using appropriate colors guided by your zodiac sign can rebalance or harmonize your body’s energy centers. How can color therapy integrate with your zodiac sign? It begins by knowing and working with your Sun sign, granting you more confidence and understanding regarding your direction. It extends our overall vitality and spreads endless radiance in our lives. It fuels our well-being and emits light wherever it touches in the birth chart. In principle, our Sun sign is our destination point, our identity. Now, the Sun Sign is where we can reach that higher level of understanding about our process and how we will experience fulfillment in this life. Incorporating color therapy guided by astrology can help you obtain confidence, and when you feel balanced, you make sound choices.

How Colors Align With Zodiac Signs

Brit + Co

Observing the astrological signs, they are all categorized within the elemental values. Starting with fire, the signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are placed within this element. These signs hold precedence over the esoteric realm of spirit as they are meant to initiate, inspire, and teach. Fire tones are within the spectrum of golds, reds, and oranges.

The signs Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn reside within the earthy realm. They are supportive, detailed, and persevering in nature. The earth element enables humanity to take a firm stance involving patience or consistency. Deep greens, grays, and navy are colors that hold a grounded energy for these signs.

The signs Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius inhabit the air element. Those who hold this element strongly have the skill to circulate a constant flow of ideas, remain stimulated, and effectively communicate. Air energy guides humanity in the exchange of information, negotiation, and evolution. For clarity, the colors that best support these signs are yellows, pastel blues, or electric blues.

Ending with Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, these signs embody the water element. Natives with a strong water element are receptive to others' feelings and can be intuitive. They can also conjure creativity, withstand intensity, and dive deep into the world of dreams. Colors such as purples, deep reds, or soft greens can help these signs invoke self-love and confidence.

Now that you know which color vibrates with your zodiac sign, you can use this visualization technique to connect more with your Sun sign. Color therapy is a powerful tool for balancing energy, emotions, and well-being. By using the healing properties of colors, you can encourage emotional release, relaxation, and revitalization. Each color carries its frequency and vibration, which can help align and support different aspects of your life, from physical health to mental clarity.

This color therapy visualization technique will guide you through grounding, relaxation, and energetic renewal. Connecting with the colors that resonate with you will activate healing energy within your body and mind, clearing away any negative or stagnant energy. It’s a simple yet powerful practice that you can do daily to restore balance and promote a sense of calm and well-being.

Energetic Healing Visualization Technique

Mikhail Nilov

  1. Position yourself comfortably or sit in a lotus position. Place your left hand over your heart area.
  2. Take a deep breath through your nose, then exhale slowly through your mouth. With each breath, feel your body becoming more relaxed.
  3. Focus on the soles of your feet and imagine an energetic pull grounding you, anchoring you in the present moment.
  4. Take another deep breath, feeling a nurturing energy rising from the ground, reaching up to the soles of your feet. Allow this energy to gently move upward, relaxing and energizing your body—feet, calves, thighs, core, shoulders, arms, neck, face, and head.
  5. Imagine a bright, glowing light in the sky above you. This light represents your Higher Self.
  6. See the light spiraling down toward you, entering through the crown of your head and flowing through your body. As it moves, it changes into a vibrant color that resonates with you.
  7. Take another deep breath and allow the colored light to fill your core center. Visualize it growing brighter and expanding with each breath, filling your entire body.
  8. Imagine the light forming a dome or egg-like shape around your body, extending outward, cleansing your physical and energetic space.
  9. Release any tensions, worries, or negative energy, visualizing them fading away into the ground. Trust the process of transformation.
  10. Continue this visualization as long as you need. When you feel light and neutral, place your hands in a prayer position and silently offer thanks.
  11. Visualize the light around you returning to its source, and when ready, gently open your eyes.

This practice can be done 1-2 times daily, ideally in the morning or before bedtime.
