If you’ve been eyeing that European vacation this summer but haven’t quite narrowed down your location, travel site Kayak has done your research for you. KAYAK looked at searches between April 15, 2018 through April 15, 2019 for travel between May 24, 2019 through September 2, 2019 to uncover the cheapest median airfare prices to Europe from 71 major airports.
Overwhelmingly, with 56 percent of the airports that Kayak looked at, Reykjavik, Iceland was the cheapest destination to fly to this summer. East Coast travelers especially have no excuses not to visit: six of the 10 most affordable flights were from eastern states like New York, Florida, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. So cross the Blue Lagoon off your bucket list, go climb a glacier, or simply take advantage of Iceland Air’s Stopover program, where you can head to Europe with a 1-7 day stopover in Iceland at no additional airfare cost.
London and Dublin were the next most popular destinations for cheap fares. Nordic countries like Norway, Sweden, and Denmark also made the list, likely for their midnight suns, a phenomenon that happens in places north of the Arctic Circle during the summer months. It’s exactly what it sounds like: The sun is still visible at midnight.
