Chrissy Teigen’s Hairstylist Shares How to Get + Maintain Her Layered Lob

We admit it, we were too busy staring at Chrissy Teigen’s flawless poolside style in the Instagrams she snapped late last week to notice that, in those same pics, she was also rocking a fresh haircut.

The chop session went down on Wednesday, when Chrissy’s hairstylist Anh Co Tran, co-owner of Ramirez | Tran Salon in Beverly Hills, gave the model and soon-to-be cookbook author a layered lob — a subtle, yet striking departure from her recent long bronde locks. The new cut, a masterful mix of the precision and texture Tran is known for (his other clients include short hair muses Coco Rocha and Ginnifer Goodwin), is more tousled than the sleek bobs and lobs we saw this spring, ushering in a new lived-in phase for the shoulder length chop.

Since snaps like these are the stuff fall hair inspiration is made of, we got the inside scoop about the cut from Tan, along with tips for how *you* can get Chrissy’s piecey lob right now.

1. Think layers for fall: Tran created a modern shag effect by softly point cutting Chrissy’s hair to give it texture and movement. Not only is a more layered cut super on trend, it’s a great (and low-maintenance) way to change up your lob for fall. “It’s very versatile and can prolong the style if it’s cut like that,” Tan said. To get Chrissy’s effortless waves, Tan said he recommends using a 1 1/4 Marcel Iron ($33) and alternate directions as you curl, leaving the ends out. In these photos, Chrissy’s hair was styled by Jen Atkin and colored by Tracey Cunningham.

2. Double tapping those pics is important: Your instinct to rush to your hairstylist with your fave celebrity hairstyles cued up on your phone is a good one. Tan recommends doing just that if you’re after this look. “I’d say your best bet is to bring in pictures that speaks a thousand words — and ask your hairstylist to please NEVER use thinning scissors.”

3. Give your ends some love: This easygoing style can be a total breeze to upkeep, and all you need to do is prioritize your pamper time. “A good masque or leave-in conditioner works wonders to keep the ends healthy, and if the hair is cut well it should last you 3-4 months!” Cue the bubble bath.

Hollywood is scissor-happy these days, and the cut of choice is none-other than the lob. Stars including Bella Hadid, Mila Kunis, and Ashley Graham have all jumped on the mid-length bob’s bandwagon, and now Kristen Bell, who debuted the semi-short style on March 10, is its latest convert. (Photo via Cindy Ord/ Getty)

The Good Place actress took to Instagram on Sunday, March 10, to debut her new sharp ‘do, which is three to four inches shorter than what she’s been sporting lately. Bell, who shares two kids with Dax Shepard, wrote, “Your mom got a hair cut and she is FEELING IT.” She credited the chop to her go-to celebrity hairstylist Jenny Cho, who posted the transformation via a timelapse video on Instagram.

Bell, who recently launched Hello Bello, a line of baby products at Walmart with Shepard, isn’t the only one snipping her strands in Hollywood this year. Mandy Moore and Anne Hathaway have left their longer lengths in the dust in favor of shorter styles.
