You may not own anything Chromatyet, but you’ve definitely seen their designs on A-list celebs like Nicki Minaj, FKA Twigs and Taylor Swift in her “Bad Blood” music video (that femme fatale bralette suit from the promo poster? Yup, that was Chromat). The brand’s clothing + accessories are edgy and architectural, which is why it makes perfect sense that they would collaborate with the innovative design duo Metalepsis Projects to create a line of 3D printed jewelry that fits their futuristic vibe. The thing we didn’t expect? The baubles would look so good styled with your typical lazy Sunday outfits. In other words, we found that statement piece to make your jean jacket or sports-bra-as-tank-top really pop.
Metalepsis Projects is is the brain child of two former architects (because who better to bring 3D printed jewelry to life than an architect?), Victoria Cho and Astrid Chaskta. The bi-coastal company strives “to re-imagine the influences of art, architecture, and science into exploratory conceptual jewelry,” and their designs are seriously some of the coolest out there. Think cutout cuffs, gemstone collar necklaces and geometric rings that would set your stackers apart from the pack. The Chromat collab is just as cool.
Inspired by Chromat’s A/W 2015 Mindfiles collection (which can be described in three words: strappy, shiny, cagey), the collab features 3D printed chokers, cuffs and rings made of black dyed nylon. The armor-like pieces are all solid, yet flexible enough to be comfortable, unlike a lot of first-run 3D printed jewelry. For jewelry “developed as mini architectural monuments for human adornment,” the pieces are extremely affordable: $36 will score you either style of ring and prices max out at $185 for the three-prong collar necklace. Consider it your one-stop shop if you want to add some tough-girl elements to your jewelry collection.
