The Perfect Cleopatra Halloween Costume for Intermediate DIY-ers

Not sure what to be this Halloween? Instead of joining a group of pals as yet another Snapchat filter, why not stand out with a costume that’s part Ancient Egyptian, part badass babe? Cleopatra is the ultimate Halloween look, and with a little patience, some careful eyeliner, and well-chosen accessories, you’ll be able to craft up a Queen-of-Egypt-inspired Halloween costume that’s sure to blow everyone away. And since not everyone is a DIY pro, we’re going to show you how to do a Cleopatra costume no matter whether you’re a beginner or a master-level costumer.

DIY Intermediate Cleopatra Halloween Costume

If you’re not quite a novice but still feel like you have some room to grow when it comes to your DIY skills, you’ll be glad to know that we have the perfect Cleopatra costume just for you: Pair one signature accessory with clothing you may already have in your closet, and top it off with approachable, attention-grabbing makeup that will tie your whole look together. Keep scrolling to find out how.

What you’ll need to bring your look to life:

How to put it all together:

1. Try your hand at styling. Even though you’ve bought a wig with bangs, there’s a good chance that they’re not cut to Cleopatra’s liking. Lay your wig flatand use a pair of ultra-sharp scissors to snip the bangs a tad shorter than they already are. The goal isn’t so much baby fringe as it is micro bangs, so be sure to cut them about an inch up from your brows. To make sure you have the right length, try the wig on first to get a feel for how much to cut.

2. Take your hairstyle up a notch. To achieve major Cleopatra vibes, place a headpiece over your wig. If you feel any slip or are worried about it falling off at any point, pop in a few bobby pins for a little extra hold.

3. Give yourself a glimmering gold makeover. Begin with our flawless face tutorial. Next, apply gold shimmering shadow to your eyelids, going deeper in the creases and expanding beyond the outside corners of your eyes. While you’re at it, bring it down onto the lower lash line with a brighter gold on the inside corners for a little extra pop. For liner, use a liquid to create the eye of Horus. It helps to use a fine tip liner pen or brush with gel liner. When tracing it on, expand the inside corners onto the sides of the bridge of your nose and wing it like an exaggerated cat eye on the outside corners. Add a bold brow using deep brown brow shadow, keeping your arches bold but not exaggerated, and top it off with a set of false gold eyelashes and a bold pink lip. Easy enough, right?

If you follow along on B+C, you’ve seen and admired our canine model, Turkey Temple (one of my favorite pet names, TBH). He is definitely a turkey by trade but clearly not by species. It seems like an obvious choice, but this was Turkey’s first time dressing up as a turkey for Halloween. Spooky season might be over, but it's *always* a good idea to dress your dog up for Thanksgiving if they don't mind!!

Keep reading for the cutest and easiest DIY dog turkey costume!

I’ve been making a lot of pet costumes this year, but this one has been high on my list for a long time. With some felt and One-Wrap Velcro, we created this pet costume in no time at all. Does your pet have a goofy name? Try dressing them up as their name, and make sure you snap photos and share them with us on Instagram! How To Make A Dog Turkey Costume

Tools And Materials:

  • red, orange, yellow and white felt
  • cardboard
  • One-Wrap Velcro
  • pen
  • fabric scissors
  • hot glue gun

Instructions:

1. Draw large, long oval feathers on your yellow felt. Stack the yellow felt on top of the orange felt and cut them both out. Next, draw a curved rectangular shape on the white felt and cut it out.

2. Hot glue the white rectangular shapes to the feathers, then glue the feathers to one another to create a fan shape.

3. Glue a horizontal strip of cardboard to the back of the feathers to help them stand upright.

4. Hot glue a piece of felt to each edge of the feathers and attach a strip of One-Wrap Velcro that is long enough to wrap around your dog’s belly.

5. Cut out a gobble from red felt and attach some One-Wrap Velcro.

Draw 12 long feathers on your yellow felt. Stack the yellow felt on top of the orange felt and cut out your feathers. Cut 12 white curved rectangular pieces to accent the feathers.

Glue the white pieces to the feathers and then glue the feathers to one another into a fan shape.

Attach a long strip of cardboard to the back of the feathers to help them stand up straight once the dog turkey costume is assembled.

Hot glue a piece of felt to each edge of the feathers and attach a strip of One-Wrap Velcro that is long enough to wrap around your dog’s belly.

Draw a gobble onto a piece of red felt, cut it out and glue it to a small piece of One-Wrap Velcro.

Hey Turkey — here’s your turkey costume!

Attach the gobble to your dog by wrapping the One-Wrap Velcro around the collar.

Cutest turkey I ever did see!

A fresh coat of paint on your front door is one of the easiest, most affordable ways to boost your curb appeal and try something different with the exterior of your home. After all, it's something you see every day and costs just the price of a gallon of paint to refresh. According to Zillow, front door paint colors can impact the number of offers and how long your home sits on the market. Darker colors tend to inspire higher resale value, but while you live and enjoy your home go with a color that you love.

Here are 15 inspiring paint colors for your front door.

Clare Paint

Earthy green paint colors, like Clare Paint Daily Greens, are becoming the new neutral for front doors. They give a natural, welcoming vibe and pair beautifully with brick, wood, or stone. Choose natural shades like olive, sage, and moss for timeless curb appeal.

Leah Newhouse

Blue door colors like Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines in Deep Denim Blue or Benjamin Moore in Prussian Blue will always be classic in this inviting Mediterranean blue hue. Refreshing your shutters if you have them is also a good idea!

Lina Kivaka

Deep reddish browns are also giving front doors a burst of color. Try Benjamin Moore's Cottage Red or Backdrop's Self Portrait for this regal look.

Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore's Aegean Teal on the front door is a lovely compliment to the soft blue-green Gray Cashmere 2138-60 on the interior walls.

Lean into more of a pretty sage color with Farrow & Ball's Vert de Terre. Stunning and soothing!

Behr

Go for a dramatic and refined look with Behr's Black Evergreen (MQ6-44). Think shaded groves with its deep dark green color.

Add a pop of happy color with Farrow & Ball's Red Earth.

Behr's

Behr's Dark Truffle is a decadent chocolate hue for anyone looking for a rich, velvety look.

Behr

Behr's Swiss Coffee (12) is a warm white that instantly gives your home a cozy Scandi vibe.

Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively's legal battle, complete with websites, text messages, and voice memos (plus second lawsuits), continues as Justin alleges Blake took It Ends With Us' creative control away from him. But according to Blake herself, the Colleen Hoover adaptation isn't the first time she's enjoyed taking more creative control of a project.

Here's what Blake Lively said about her "need" to have "authorship" in her movies — years before the It Ends With Us drama with Justin Baldoni began.

@stephwithdadeets THIS IS WILD…She has been doing this. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ #blakelively#justinbaldoni#itendswithus#celebritynews#greenscreenvideo#greenscreen♬ original sound - Stephanie Tleiji

In 2022, Blake Lively was a part of the Forbes Power Women’s Summit (and surprised the world by confirming her fourth pregnancy). She admitted previous projects had "resented" her desire to be more active behind the scenes because they "just hired [her] to be an actor."

“When I went into meetings, I would just seem like I’m just there to be the actor and ready to get the gig,” she says. “I wouldn’t reveal that I actually need to have authorship in order to feel fulfilled. So I think that for them, sometimes that might have felt like a rug pulled because you’re like, you’re trying to assert yourself into something that we didn’t hire you to do.”

And while sometimes there are moments she'd say, "‘OK, um, I believe in this and that’s why I’m standing up for it and that’s why I’m not being difficult,'” the actress admits "there are other moments she'd go, ‘Am I the a–hole in the room?’”

“It’s about being up front about knowing what you actually need," she continues, "versus just, like, trying to get the job and then once you’re in it, sort of revealing the scope of your needs to be fulfilled."

Naturally, TikTok users had a LOT to say. "Imagine being hired as a nanny but you wanted to be the mom, so you just fired the mom instead," one said, while another asked, "Why didn't her husband [Ryan Reynolds] just buy her a production company and a movie for her to direct and star in."

"The way I need JB's lawyer to play this in court to establish pattern of behaviour," a third commented.

You can see Justin Baldoni's Amended Complaint and a 5-year timeline of events on his website TheLawsuitInfo.com, where he talks, at length, about creative differences between his editing and marketing of It Ends With Us versus Blakes — and how there were "concerns about Lively's undue influence over the film," as well as "a pattern of demands by Lively and acquiescence by Baldoni."

Another clip of Blake Lively resurfaced on the internet this week, and sees the actress admit to bringing an unfinished cut of the movie to fans. "[The] studio begged me not to show” the movie, Blake says, but they “didn’t have the option [to say no], I literally brought the movie with me on the airplane."
