A Beginner's Guide To Colleen Hoover Books Ranked From Best To Worst

colleen hoover books ranked

Colleen Hoover is one of the most well-known authors right now, with her books absolutely smashing sales records and dominating social media. Many even credit her for re-igniting a forgotten love of reading, as a multitude of her books are fast-paced and easy to get lost in.

Although certainly talented, Hoover faces her share of controversy. Not all of her books meet the mark, and some are even accused of glamorizing abuse. To help you decide which ones are worth the read, here is a ranking of the best Colleen Hoover books based on storyline, characters, and dialogue. This way, you can enjoy the best of what the author has to offer and, maybe, leave the rest behind. Happy reading!

The Best (And Worst) Colleen Hoover Books So You Know Where To Start

1.Verity

A thrilling psychological thriller, Verity veers away from Colleen Hoover's usual genre but it's one of her best pieces of work. It follows the story of a struggling writer, Lowen, who accepts a job working to finish the remaining books in a very successful series of novels after the original author passes away. The job becomes much more than Lowen could ever expect, with a horrifying truth emerging through her work.

When I say this novel keeps you on the edge of your seat from page one to the very end, I mean it. It's one of those books that leaves you thinking about the ending long after it's been closed shut. The only thing to be wary of is reading it at night, as the seriously creepy storyline will have you tossing and turning.

2. Hopeless

For those who tend to steer clear of Colleen Hoover books thinking they're cheesy or predictable, this story will surely challenge that notion. Hopeless is an engaging and thought-provoking story about a seventeen-year-old named Sky who lives a bit of a sheltered life. However, her worldview is completely changed when she meets a boy with a bad reputation named Dean Holder. Through her time with him, she begins to remember things about her childhood that make her question everything she thought she knew and uncover the truth about her upbringing.

When I first finished Hopeless, I went through major withdrawals after becoming so emotionally invested in the characters and their journeys. With so many twists and turns, the reader is left desperate for more, and Hoover delivers with a sequel called Losing Hope that is equally captivating and a novella called Finding Cinderella which expands the literary universe.

Note: This book does require a content warning, as it deals with potentially triggering subjects such as sexual abuse and suicide.

3. November 9

November 9 went viral on TikTok, and I'm honestly not surprised. Pushing the envelope in terms of what a love story entails, the book tells the story of Fallon and Ben who meet one another for the first time the day before Fallon is set to move across the country. The two spend that entire day together, November 9, and ultimately decide that they'll meet up every year on that same day and reunite. All the while, Ben who is an aspiring novelist is using their story as inspiration for his latest work. As things continue to grow between the duo through their yearly meet ups, Fallon begins to wonder if this story will have a happy ending after all.

What makes this such a stand-out among Hoover's work is it's raw depiction of things like insecurity, complicated parental relationships, and the difficult nature of forgiveness. It has been deemed controversial, however, as some find the plot twist at the end to be unforgivable. Whether you end up loving it or hating, it's definitely a Colleen Hoover book to check out and form an opinion on.

4. All Your Perfects

While I'm tempted to put All Your Perfects closer to the bottom of the list simply because of how much emotional whiplash it delivers, I can't deny that it's one of her best books. It's a raw and honest story about a couple, Graham and Quinn, as they navigate a challenging topic for many — infertility. Their struggle with having a child pushes them to revaluate their relationship and decide whether they can move past years of resentment, miscommunication, and secrets.

Although, All Your Perfects is one of Hoover's most heart-wrenching pieces, It remains many readers' favorite. It is rare that a romance author is so beautifully able to capture the reality of the difficulties of a romantic relationship. For many, the book allowed them to feel seen and heard in a way that no other book had before.

5. It Ends With Us

It Ends With Usis a complex novel that will soon make the leap from page to screen with its movie adaptation starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. You know they always say that the book is better than the movie, and this book sets the bar high. It is about a woman named Lily who meets a seemingly "too good to be true" handsome neurosurgeon named Ryle. As she begins to fall head-over-heels for him, her first love, Atlas, reappears and makes her rethink her feelings for Ryle.

The book and its prequel, It Begins With Us, both take the reader on an evocative journey filled with twists and turns. The series went completely viral on TikTok and inspired many women with its message of bravery. It does deal with sensitive subjects, such as abuse, that should be taken into consideration before reading.

6. Regretting You

Nominated for a 2020 Goodreads Choice Award, Regretting You is an excellent read that navigates the complex nature of mother-daughter relationships. Skillfully transitioning from a present-day narrative to flashbacks, the book tells the story of Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara. When Chris, Morgan's husband and Clara's dad, tragically passes away, the two must learn how to co-exist without the man who served as the family anchor.

Through their struggle with grief, they uncover some secrets about the people they thought they knew. The book is high up on the ranking, as it is a complete page turner and the twist at the end will have your stomach dropping. It is a poignant read that challenges the reader's views on family, grief, and resentment.

7. Heart Bones

Heart Bones is a YA novel that serves as one of the best books to get out of a reading slump. It tells the story of a girl named Beyah Grim who has had been dealt a difficult set of cards, to say the least. She grew up in a life of poverty and neglect but worked diligently to secure herself a full-ride scholarship to college. Her mother dies the summer before she is set to attend, and Beyah must go life with her estranged father for a time. Frustrated and eager for the summer to be over, Beyah has little tolerance for the wealthy and brooding boy next door, Samson. However, their chemistry is undeniable and they start up a casual summer fling.

In typical CoHo style, the book is more than just a cheesy romance novel. Beyah and Samson are forced to confront the challenges of their past in order to move on and grow as people. It has a prime spot on this list because of its unforgettable depiction of the reality of trauma and its implications.

8. Never Never

Never Never is a three-part series in which Colleen Hover collaborates with fellow author, Tarryn Fisher. The duo creates an unforgettable series of novels about life-long best friends, Charlie and Nash, who have been in love with each other since they were fourteen years old. One day they wake up and all of their memories, such as their first date, first kiss, and first fight, have vanished, and they are now strangers. Although they no longer feel a connection to one another, they are the only ones who can crack the case as to why they are left without any memories.

One of Hoover's more underrated pieces of work, the Never Never series provides an excellent take on the nature of fate. The cliffhanger at the end of the first book leaves you reaching for the second before you know it. Each book in the series makes you question your existing beliefs on love and captivates you from beginning to end.

9. Reminders of Him

Reminders of Him is a riveting and heartbreaking story about a troubled young mother looking for redemption after serving five years in prison for an unfortunate mistake. When she returns to the town where the incident occurred, she looks to be reunited with her four-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, no one is willing to allow her back into her daughter's life, and her only ally becomes a man named Ledger Ward.

This book is in line with what Colleen Hoover is best known for, emotional romances with strong characters and dialogue. The main character's growth and forgiveness towards herself is admirable and inspirational for readers. If you end up picking this one out to read, I recommend picking up a box of tissues along with it.

10. Layla

Layla takes the concept of unconditional love and puts it to the ultimate test. The book is about a man named Leeds who is madly in love with a woman named Layla. He thinks he is going to spend the rest of his life with her, but an unexpected event leaves Layla in the hospital. When she leaves the hospital, she's not the same Layla — in significant ways — that he knew and loved, and he finds himself drawn to another woman.

This book proves that Hoover can dominate in the thriller space, as it delivers the mind-blowing unforeseen plot twists that the genre demands. It leaves you feeling just the right amount of uncomfortable and creeped out to still want to turn the page to find out what happens next.

11. Too Late

Similar to Verity, Too Late proves that Colleen Hoover isn't just a romance writer — she's great at thrillers, too. It is about a woman named Sloan who gets caught up with a notorious drug trafficker named Asa. She starts working with him in order to help pay for her brother's care, and becomes financially and emotionally reliant on him in the process. Asa begins to develop an unhealthy obsession with her that turns dangerous. As this is happening, an undercover agent enters the picture, and Sloan feels an immediate attraction to him. However, she is stuck between a rock and a hard place because if they get together, Asa is sure to kill him.

Too Late definitely belongs in the thriller category, as it is unbelievably addicting and scary. It also weaves in elements of romance that help balance out the darkness a little. The book feels like a strong blend of both of Hoover's strong suits, thrilling storylines and romantic characters.

12. Without Merit

Without Merit is an interesting one of Hoover's books, although it might take a little while to get into. It's a haunting story about a family who lives in a repurposed church. They're anything but ordinary, with the mother once having cancer and the father being married to the mother's former nurse. Merit, one of the siblings, is the one to uncover a family secret that she cannot ignore, and she sets out to expose it and then leave the family for good.

The premise of the story is definitely unique and keeps you on your toes. The complaint I — and many readers — have with it is that it deals with many tough subjects, like suicide and depression, but doesn't give them the weight they deserve. With so much going on, it seemed like these huge things were being brushed away to hurry the plot along.

Note: This book does require a content warning, as it deals with potentially triggering subjects such as depression and suicide.

13. Confess

Although this novel falls in the lower half of this ranking due to its slightly one-dimensional characters, Confess actually does have a number of redeeming qualities. It's about a twenty-one year old woman named Auburn Reed who was forced to face the reality of losing everything important to her. Unwilling to give up, she sets her sights on rebuilding her life and ends up meeting an artist named Owen. She soon discovers that Owen is keeping a huge secret from the world — one he's unwilling to confess.

If you're trying to decide which Colleen Hoover book to pick up first, this wouldn't be my recommendation. While the storyline is interesting, the book is hard to get into at first. In the sea of Colleen Hoover books, it's definitely not one of the worst but it feels a bit unmemorable.

14. Maybe Someday

Maybe Someday starts off as a story you may have heard before. A twenty-two-year-old named Sydney is on top of the world...until she finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her. Distraught at first, she quickly finds herself attracted to her mysterious neighbor, Ridge. The two can't ignore their passion for one another and find themselves falling deeper and deeper.

Unfortunately, the premise feels a bit tired, and many readers felt disappointed in the way women were talked about throughout the novel. It also felt like it was romanticizing cheating at certain parts, making it hard to stomach. Overall, some of the characters redeem the subpar plot, but it's definitely not at the top of this ranking. Neither are the two sequels, Maybe Not and Maybe Someday.

15. Slammed

Slammed introduces readers to 18-year-old Layken, who is is trying to remain strong for her mother and younger brother after the unexpected death of her father. She meets a 21-year old neighbor named Will Cooper who helps her regain hope, but things take a turn when a startling revelation threatens to drive a wedge between them.

If angsty teenage love stories are your thing, Slammed may be the choice for you. Unfortunately, the book didn't do a great job of depicting the mature heroine that Layken claims to be. At times, she severely lacked emotional maturity and seemed to take advantage of Will's care for her. While totally awful, this definitely isn't one of Colleen Hoover's best, and it's sequels aren't much better.

16. Ugly Love

Ugly Love went viral on TikTok...but not for the greatest of reasons. The book is about Tate Collins, who meets an airline pilot named Miles Archer. They don't exactly like each other as people, but do share one thing: undeniable attraction for one another. Once they both discover this, they decide to have a friends-with-benefits type of situation. Miles has two rules, though, that Tate must follow in order for them to continue to be together: don't talk about the past and don't expect a future together.

Based on the premise alone, the book isn't really the greatest love story of all time. It really leans into gender stereotypes, and the relationship that unfolds is not one that is aspirational in the slightest. Some of the lines are also down right cringe-y (and TikTok hasn't been shy about pointing these out). I'd have to say that even though not all of Colleen Hoover's books are slam dunks, this one should be a hard pass.

If you know me, you know I'm a die hard Outer Banks season 1 fan. I binge watched the entire thing with my family in 2020 while quarantining on the real OBX, I joined the Drew Starkey fan club the moment he stepped onscreen, and I was obsessed with JJ and Kiara way before the internet started shipping them. So, needless to say, I waited for Outer Banks season 4 with baited breath — especially when I heard rumors it would focus on JJ (Rudy Pankow) the way previous seasons had focused on John B. (Chase Stokes) in season 1, Pope (Jonathan Daviss) in season 2, and Kiara (Madison Bailey) in season 3.

I think season 1 will always be my favorite, but Outer Banks season 4 pleasantly surprised me. We're far enough into the show that we really care about the characters, and they have enough history with one another that we're invested in their decisions. Plus, returning to the OBX provided real-world stakes I could relate to as a viewer: family drama, dealing with bullies, and more. No matter whether you really love JJ, or you're always dreaming about your next beach vacation, here's whyOuter Banks season 4 absolutely NEEDS to be your weekend binge. (Serious spoilers ahead!!!)

Here's a full Outer Banks season 4 recap of every shocking detail you missed the first time around.

  • Outer Banks season 4 finally brings the cast back to the OBX.
  • John B., Sarah, Cleo, Pope, Kiara, and JJ are up against the Kooks — and other treasure hunters.
  • Season 4 feels more grounded and relatable than past seasons, making it a very strong installment.

We're Back On The Outer Banks!

Netflix

FINALLY! After a couple of seasons in the Caribbean and South America, Outer Banks is back, well, on the Outer Banks. Honestly, this automatically makes the season better because it provides a ton of familiarity, nostalgia, and comfort for readers. And it also provides a realistic, grounded aspect to the adventure. Because let's be honest, a group of teens hopping on a tiny plane and taking part in a jungle treasure hunt requires a little too much suspension of disbelief for me. Plus, just like Gossip Girl wouldn't be the same without Blair and Serena hitting up Bergdorf's, a Pogue beach & surfing day just feels right.

The Pogues Open Their Own Bait, Tackle, & Deep Sea Charter Business

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

The first episode of Outer Banks season 4 catches us up on that season 3 time jump. After learning how much money they actually have their hands on, the Pogues move into JJ's old house (renaming it "Poguelandia 2.0"), and open a bait, tackle, and charter shop. While I have a few questions about how six teens literally built a business without the help of a contractor, I love seeing this group lead regular lives. The shop plays into their strengths and allows them to cultivate their relationships in normal settings instead of life-or-death ones. Friendships are made in those boring moments, IMO.

The Group Is Searching For More Than Blackbeard's Treasure

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

After Outer Banks season 3, the one thing I said I didn't want the show to do was go into supernatural, ghost territory. And for a moment, I thought that's where we were going. Wes Genrette and his son-in-law Chandler Groff hire the Pogues to find Blackbeard's treasure, but it doesn't take long for them to realize they're in over their heads (again).

Wes is a direct descendent of Francis Genrette, the man responsible for killing Blackbeard and his wife Elizabeth. Now, Elizabeth haunts every generation of the Genrette family, and once she appears, you don't have long to live. Wes reveals his daughter Larissa (Chandler's late wife) saw Elizabeth a week before she died, and Wes himself has seen her, which means his days are numbered.

At the end of part 1, the Pogues are on a mission to find Elizabeth's amulet & break the curse, which also puts them on track to find the Blue Crown. Their race against Lightner and Dalia brings Pope, Cleo, Sarah, and John B. to Charleston — and leavesPope and Sarah trapped in a crypt as it slowly floods.

Turns out, Chandler Groff was behind the ghost murders the whole time, something Shoupe should have clocked a long time ago.

John B., JJ, And Their Friends Have A Beach Day Run-In With The Kooks

Netflix

Because so much of Outer Banks season 4 takes place on the OBX, it means John B., Sarah, JJ, Kie, Pope, and Cleo are once again clashing with Topper, Rafe, and the rest of the Kooks. Despite the fact this season features plenty of death-defying stunts, the scene that will stick with me the most is when the Pogues and Kooks wind up at the same beach access.

I audibly gasped when Ruthie, Topper's new girlfriend, plays chicken with the Pogues on the beach, almost hitting Kiara with her Jeep and running over a turtle hatch in the process. (IRL, protecting endangered sea turtles & their hatches are a big deal on the Outer Banks, so this definitely got a visceral reaction from me).

At the end of the day, the major (and arguably, the most painful) conflict of this teen drama is how the Kooks make the Pogues feel like they don't belong anywhere. And if you ask me, exploring this tension and these relationships is where the show truly shines.

Lightener Is Determined To Take Out The Pogues

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

That being said, I found the villains this season, Lightner and Dalia, to be way scarier than I expected — especially once Lightner killed Terrance and almost killed Cleo. Every time he showed up onscreen, my heart started pounding like he was chasing me! The thought of being stuck in my bait shop alone with a creepy guy, especially one brandishing a knife? Thank you, next.

Luke Returned To The Outer Banks

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

After JJ & Kiara said goodbye to JJ's dad Luke in Outer Banks season 2, he's been totally off the grid. Except, apparently, he hasn't? JJ learns Luke is back when he visits Barracuda Mike, but the father-son bonding quickly takes a turn for the crazy when Luke drops a piece of news that changes everything: he isn't JJ's biological father. Chandler Groff is.

JJ Has Actually Been A Kook This Whole Time

Netflix

JJ's entire character is based around the fact he's proud to be a Pogue. He hates the Kooks and everything they stand for, which is why when Luke reveals he isn't JJ's biological father, and that JJ is related to the Groff/Genrette clan, it totally sends JJ into orbit.

JJ Destroys Downtown

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

And by "sends JJ into orbit," I mean he literally destroys downtown Kildare...with a baseball bat (okay Steve Harrington!).

This Kook identity is something JJ's been running from the entire series — even before Kie had to reassure him that finding the gold didn't make them Kooks — and he's going to have to do some serious soul searching to figure out who he actually is now.

I was wholly sold on the theory Outer Banks 4 would reveal JJ and Sarah were siblings, but this is a pretty good alternative. And who knows? Maybe they're actually cousins.

Powers At Be Want To Bulldoze The Cut

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

If this show has proven anything, it's that the OBX is far from paradise. This season, some big names are trying to turn The Cut — including Poguelandia 2.0 — into an extension of the wealthier Figure Eight. Things get even more complicated when Hollis, who worked with Ward before he died, wants to trick Rafe into being her financial partner...and then gets his girlfriend Sofia to convince him to sign her contract.

Rafe Proposes To Sofia...And Then Breaks Up With Her

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

It doesn't take long for Rafe to learn Hollis tricked him. And despite proclaiming his love for Sofia, proposing, and telling her nothing could get in the way of their relationship, Rafe breaks up with her and kicks her out of his home the second he finds out she conned him. Messy, messy.

The one silver lining is that it sends Rafe back to Sarah and her friends! Is he finally turning into the kind and protective older brother fans want him to be?

Sarah Learns She's Pregnant

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

After she starts feeling sick, Sarah takes a pregnancy test that comes back positive...and Kiara immediately finds out. Despite the fact adding a baby to the Outer Banks dynamic is a wild concept, this is exactly the kind of domestic, sweet ending I would have hoped for Sarah and John B. And Kiara's statement that Sarah's going to be an amazing mom? I couldn't agree more.

The Pogues Head To Morocco

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

Remember how excited I was for the Pogues to return to the Outer Banks? Well, that doesn't last long because in the final episode of Outer Banks season 4, the group heads to Morocco to find the Blue Crown. It's definitely not smooth sailing, but I really love seeing John B. and Sarah, Pope and Cleo, and JJ and Kiara work in their pairs.

Rafe Begins His Redemption Arc

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

Drew Starkey admitted after season 1 that he didn't care whether Rafe got a redemption arc, and I agreed at the time. I found the idea of Rafe, who was so driven to please his father he'd literally murder for him, incredibly compelling. Plus, he's been the ringleader of the War on Pogues this whole time, so suddenly making him sympathetic towards them felt like backtracking on his character.

Rafe still has his moments (like saying he'd never date a Pogue after finding out Sofia was from The Cut), but now that him and Sarah are finally moving towards reconciling, it seems like we could actually be getting a Rafe redemption after all. But that doesn't mean I want Kiara and Rafe to get together. Let's keep things platonic people!!

JJ Dies In Kiara's Arms

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

If you're a fan of OBX, or you've been on the internet at all over the last week, then you already know where this is going. After the group splits up, it's total chaos. Pope ends up killing Lightener after Cleo's wounded, while JJ finds the Blue Crown.

When Chandler Groff threatens Kiara, JJ gives up the treasure in exchange for Kie — and Chandler kills him for no reason anyway. Fans went wild over the season 4 ending, and more than one told me they were heartbroken. Outer Banks will never be the same, that's for sure.

"Revenge"

Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix

After they bury JJ's body, the group gathers around a campfire and acknowledges that if any of them had died, JJ wouldn't rest until they were avenged. Kiara stands up, looks into the fire, and mutters "revenge" before the screen cuts to black.

Season 5 is going to be one wild ride, because based on Kiara's pure, white hot anger, and Rafe's love of all things vengeful, I can only imagine what kind of havoc this group is going to wreak on Chandler Groff.

Austin Butler as Elvis truly changed Hollywood, because now, not only are we getting Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan and Selena Gomez as Linda Rondstat, but Paul Mescal is also reportedly in talks to lead one of four upcoming biopics about The Beatles. Each movie, set to come from director Sam Mendes, will focus on a different member of the band — and their unique points of view — but will intersect to “tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history,” per Variety.

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Beatles movies.

Is there a new Beatles movie coming out?

Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images

Yes, director Sam Mendes is developing four movies about The Beatles — one for each member of the band. Each individual movie will tell a story from the perspective of one member (including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, and George Harrison).

“I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” Sam Mendes told Variety.

Where can I watch the new Beatles biopics?

Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images

Each of the four movies will be released in theaters, thanks to Sony Pictures Entertainment. They're hoping to shoot all four in the UK starting in 2025 and release them in 2027.

“You have to match the boldness of the idea with a bold release strategy,” Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman told The Hollywood Reporter. “There hasn’t been an enterprise like this before, and you can’t think about it in traditional releasing terms.”

Who will be playing The Beatles?

Arturo Holmes/Getty Images

According an article by The Hollywood Reporterpublished in May 2024, Paul Mescal was one of the studio's top picks for one of the Beatles, which I would totally be here for. To be honest, I need the rumored casting to be true just so I can hear him sing!

Speaking with GQ in October 2024, Mescal said: “I would love to be involved, but there’s nothing set in stone.”

He since hasn't confirmed (or denied) the rumors are true. During an interview with ETat theLos Angeles premiere of Gladiator II, Mescal said:

"It would be an incredible story to be attached to. The fact that Sam Mendes is attached to direct, it truly would be a dream come true."

Some other fan casts for he Beatles movies include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Asa Butterfield, Barry Keoghan, and Tom Holland.

Who do you want to see in the new Beatles biopics? Let us know on Facebook!

This post has been updated with additional reporting by Meredith Holser.

Our favorite dancing queens (Meryl Streep included) might be returning to the big screen for a third encore of Mamma Mia! and we’re already rewatching the first two movie musicals in preparation.

In an interview with Deadline in May of 2023, Mamma Mia! franchise creator and producer Judy Craymer said a third movie musical is in "earliest stages." She also shared that she has come up with a way to bring Meryl Streep back again.

"I don't want to over-egg it," she said of the unofficial news, "but I know there's a trilogy there…and I do think Meryl should come back, and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna."

"Of course I want to do it," Streep said during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival (via Deadline). Sounds promising to us!

Is Mamma Mia 3 happening?

Universal Pictures

Yes, Mamma Mia 3 is in its early planning stages! Christine Baranski just told The Hollywood Reporter that she's met with producer Judy Kramer, and that Kramer has plans for the third movie. "She gave me the narrative plotline of how it’s going to happen," Baranski says. "That’s all I can say! But, it’s not like, 'Oh, I wish it could happen!' Judy Kramer makes things happen. She made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal hit. I wouldn’t put it past Judy Kramer to get everybody back together."

Universal Pictures

A third installation was first mentioned way back in 2020, during a Collider interview with Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried. Seyfried said she was on board — and at the time, she thought the rest of the star-studded cast would be too.

"Listen, every single person in that movie would say yes in a heartbeat because we want to hang out with each other," Seyfried told Collider at the time. "That's what we talked about last time, like did we ever think that we'd end up here again on an Island in Croatia?"

When will Mamma Mia 3 come out?

Universal Pictures

We don't have an official answer about when to expect this highly anticipated sequel. The project is in the "earliest stages," according to creator and producer, Judy Craymer. Cher also revealed to Entertainment Weekly that everyone is "talking about it," but she doesn't "know when they're going to do it."

Has casting information been shared about Mamma Mia 3?

Jonathan Prime/Universal Studios

While nothing's been made official, Amanda Seyfried just said something that made my heart skip a beat. She told ABC News she loves Sabrina Carpenter's music and dropped this admission: "If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen."

But before she admitted that, the actress said something else that made me raise my eyebrows. "Everybody says it’s gonna happen, but I mean, I haven’t seen a script."

Cher is also eager to return to the beloved franchise and is rooting for Meryl to make an appearance again. "I keep saying, 'Meryl, you've got to come back,'" she said (via Entertainment Weekly). She also said she's told her, "'It'll be fun. You'll have a good time. You'll be able to sing.'"

I don't know what it'll take, but hope someone gets a script in Amanda Seyfried, Cher, and Meryl Streep's hands ASAP!

What is the first Mamma Mia about?

Universal Pictures

The first film follows Donna (Streep) and Sophie (Seyfried) as mother and daughter living on a remote Greek island. When Sophie is about to marry Sky (Dominic Cooper), she sets out to learn who her real father is after discovering it could be one of three men (played by Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, and Colin Firth).

Who does the second Mamma Mia follow?

Universal Pictures / NBCUniversal

Mamma Mia 2takes viewers back to 1979, where young Donna (Lily James) embarks on a series of adventures throughout Europe following her Oxford University graduation. On her journeys, she makes the acquaintances of Harry, Bill and Sam – the latter whom she falls in love with. In the present day, pregnant Sophie dreams of renovating a taverna while reuniting with her mother's old friends and boyfriends on a Greek island island.

TBH, we’re pretty happy that Mamma Mia! is far from over, and we can’t wait to see what the franchise has in store for us next. Stay updated on all the latest entertainment news with Brit + Co.

There's nothing ~normal~ about how much we love Normal People's Paul Mescal & Daisy Edgar-Jones. While it turns out we're not getting a Normal People season 2 (yet), the two actors are starring in some of 2024's biggest blockbusters (Twisters and Gladiator II, namely), and we've been soaking up their presences ever since.

Paul recently exhibited his ongoing friendship with Daisy at the Gladiator II premiere in Los Angeles. While he approached Brittany Broski on the red carpet for an interview, he recognized her from her recent 'Royal Court' interview with Daisy:

"You were with Daisy!" he chimed in excitingly. We just love this power duo!

Enda Bowe/Hulu

Daisy Edgar-Jones also revealed that she's remained incredibly close to Paul Mescal after their time on Hulu's Normal People. "Paul is one of my lifetime best friends," she says. "He’s an incredibly grounded person and I am too, I think, so it’s nice to be able to have those touchstones and those people you can laugh about it with and be lighthearted with. We met when I was 20 and Paul was 22; I’m so excited to see where we’ll be at 32, 42, and what life will bring us."

But the coolest thing is that not only is Normal People special for Paul and Daisy, but they've also been able to see the effect of the show on its fans.

"The thing I love people saying the most is, 'It made me contact my ex,'" Daisy continues. "Especially when much older people say, 'I just wanted to reach out to the person I was with when I was 17 just to say you were a big part of my history and thanks for being part of who I am, the tapestry of my life.' And that I really love, because I’m a massive romantic."

Daisy recently revealed they bonded over their training for Twisters and Gladiator II.

"I did running lessons — isn’t that crazy?" she told Variety. "Actually, Paul [Mescal] and I were laughing about it, because he was training for 'Gladiator II' and I was training for 'Twisters,' and obviously he had to be huge and I was like, 'Don’t worry, I’m going to be right up there with you.'"
