Now that the turkey has been fully digested, it’s time to turn our attention to the TV. We’re smack in the middle of cuffing season, people. If there ever was a month to Netflix and chill, December is it. Here’s everything that’s going to be streaming on a Netflix account near you this month that you can’t miss, including a star-studded Christmas special featuring Bill Murray. Check out the list below!
First off, Billy Murray’s Christmas special A Very Murray Christmas (12/4) is going to be a new holiday classic you’ll watch year after year. For laughs, don’t miss comedian Brent Morin’s special I Am Brent Morin (12/1) and Mike Epps’ Mike Epps: Don’t Take It Personal (12/18).
Then, Netflix is jumping right into the Western genre with The Ridiculous 6 (12/11), a tale about Tommy “White Knife” Stockburn and his five brothers. Straight from comedian Bill Burr is F is for Family: Season 1 (12/18), a series about a family in the ’70s. The Trailer Park boys and their antics are back with Trailer Park Boys: Drunk, High and Unemployed Live in Austin (12/9). If you’re looking for some thrills, don’t miss Making A Murderer: Season 1 (12/18), a crime thriller 10 years in the making.
Everyone’s fave fairytale kitty is also back in The Adventures of Puss in Boots: Season 2 (12/10). The kids will also all be tuning in to Glitter Force: Season 1 (12/18), a show about five preteens defending the planet against evil fairytale villains, as well as Dawn of the Croods: Season 1 (12/24).
MOVIES COMING TO NETFLIX IN DECEMBER
Director Sean Baker filmed his much-talked-about movie Tangerine (12/1) entirely on the iPhone 5S, and it’s about two working girls and their escapades through the city. Also debuting in December is Jamie Foxx in his award-winning role as Ray Charles in 2004’s Ray (12/1). Got love on the brain? You’ll like Manhattan Romance (12/31), an entangling documentary about modern love in NYC. Also, check out Katherine Heigl as a lesbian woman coming out to her family in Jenny’s Wedding (12/1).
If you want some chills, check out the thriller Amnesiac (12/1), which is about a man who loses his memory after a car accident, or watch Tom Hanks as a symbologist in The Da Vinci Code (12/14). If thrills are more your style, catch DMX and Jet Li in diamond heist action film Cradle 2 the Grave (12/1), Vin Diesel in Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury (12/1) or 1990 anti-hero flick Darkman (12/1).
Don’t worry — since it is the holidays and all, there are plenty of movies that have lots of yuletide cheer. There’s A Christmas Star (12/1), which is all about Christmas miracles. The kiddies will also like Magic Snowflake (12/20), the tale of boy who will become the next Santa Claus, as well as Santa’s Apprentice (12/20).
TV SHOWS COMING TO NETFLIX IN DECEMBER
Hooray! The Braverman clan is back with Parenthood: Season 6 (12/30) for you to laugh ’til you can’t breathe and sob your eyes out. You can also catch all seven seasons of Nurse Jackie (12/31) starting at the end of December. Also, follow along Rachel Bilson as your fave country doc in season four of Hart of Dixie (12/15).
Geektastic series Broadchurch (12/1) starring David Tennant (swoon) is back with season two. As is Helix: Season 2 (12/16), which features scientists at an Arctic lab discovering a dangerous new virus. Also in the sci-fi genre is the Christmas episode oftechnological thriller series Black Mirror with their “White Christmas” episode(12/25).
If you need some humor injected into this cold, cold December, you’ll appreciate BBC’s The Detectorists: Season 1 (12/1), which is about two quirky friends who share a penchant for metal detecting. You’ll also like Rob Schneider’s comedy series Real Rob: Season 1 (12/1), a Netflix exclusive look into the life of the comedian. Also back and still funny is Comedy Bang! Bang!: Season 4 (12/4) with more hilarious episodes that bring the popular podcast to TV.
And of course, we can’t forget the little ones. The kids won’t want to miss Phineas and Ferb: Season 4 (12/9) and season five of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (12/28).
