How is IKEA so amazing? We often ponder this as we wander through the aisles. To prepare for the holidays, we headed over to their crazy amazing store and picked up a few new decor pieces, including an orange lampshade. And we are going to show you how to turn it into the ultimate holiday hack of the season — a Thanksgiving cornucopia! This modern geometric lampshade was just calling for a Thanksgiving upgrade ;) Geometric cornucopia FTW!
Materials + Tools:
Instructions:
- IKEA Joxtorp lamp shade
- hot glue gun
- fabric
- scissors
- gold glitter tape
1. Fold the pieces of the lampshade and attach together with the tabs.
2. Cut a fabric rectangle measuring 40 x 16 inches and glue it to the inside edge of the lampshade.
3. Pull the ends of the fabric out of the top of the lampshade. Trim the fabric and glue in place.
4. Use glitter tape to cover the edges of the lampshade. Hot glue the tape in place if necessary.
Mix and match colors that go with your tablescape. If an orange cornucopia is too much, feel free to spray paint it to match your decor.
Crease the pieces of the lampshade and attach them together by inserting the tabs into the slots. IKEA provides picture drawings to help you assemble the lampshade properly.
Time to turn that lampshade into a cornucopia! Cut a piece of fabric that measures 40 x 16 inches.
Glue the fabric to the inside edge of the cornucopia.
Pull the fabric through the other side and glue in place. Trim the fabric down and secure the creased sections of fabric with more hot glue.
Cover the edges with glitter tape. Use hot glue to hold the tape in place if the adhesive won’t stick to the fabric.
You spin me right round, baby, right round.
Who else loves this bounty of autumnal colors cascading from the cornucopia? We sure do! Wrap the stems of your flowers in a wet paper towel, then cover the paper towel in tin foil to keep the flowers fresh while they sit in the cornucopia.
Now let’s be real — cornucopias take up a lot of room on the table, especially one that is meant to be filled with platters of delicious Thanksgiving food! Mix it up and put your cornucopia on your dessert table or cocktail bar.
We filled ours with chocolate-covered fortune cookies to give our guests a bit of good luck for the new year to come :)
Don’t forget about the kids’ table! Include legos, crayons and coloring book pages to keep those little ones busy while you catch up with your family and friends.
