What says summer more than a classic country wedding set in the rolling hills of Virginia? Addison and Chad’s sweet celebration at the tail end of May was full of personal touches, a dreamy, soft palette and lots of country charm (see if you can spot the tractor!). Read on for tips on how to cop this couple’s southern DIY wedding ideas.
1. Location, Location, Location: Step one in achieving country wedding nirvana? Finding the perfect farm to host your celebration. Addison and Chad swapped vows at the Old Mill Farm in Bedford, VA among leafy old trees and fields full of fresh summer produce. For the ceremony, guests “entered” the outdoor seating area through a pair of rustic, weathered doors.
2. Pretty in Pink and Green: For the reception centerpieces, Addison spray painted recycled tin cans pale pink and mint green and used them as vases for classic country flowers like daisies. The bride couldn’t have pulled this centerpiece look off without some help: she collected over 100 tin cans from her family and friends in the months leading up to the wedding. Budget savvy, eco-friendly and super cute to boot? This DIY centerpiece look hits all the right notes.
3. Chalk It Up: Addison said she used quite a few simple chalkboard signs to direct her guests on what to do and where to go, including the couple’s wedding hashtag on Instagram. We love the weathered look of the chalkboard easel above. And as a side note: If only all couple’s names worked as well together for a hashtag! #ChAddisonFTW
4. Jars on Jars: It’s just not a country wedding without a mason jar or fifty. These engraved mason jar mugs kept guests happy and hydrated, and also made a great (and functional) wedding favor.
5. You’ve Been Framed: Instead of a traditional guestbook, Addison and her mom dreamt up this fun + rustic message board. To make the message board, Addison removed the glass from an extra-large picture frame and strung twine that her guests could pin messages on. The miniature sparkly clothespins add an extra-special glam-rustic touch.
6. Simply Fern-tastic: Instead of fussy floral arrangements, Addison and Chad used large pots of ferns to accent their couple’s table at the reception. The wood pallets — strung with lights and “Mr.” and “Mrs.” signs — kept with the farm-chic theme.
7. Down the Aisle: Mason jars also made an appearance at the ceremony. Addison lined the aisle with shepherd hooks, and then hung them with jars featuring thick twine handles. She stuffed the jars with daisies and baby’s breath for a pretty floral touch.
8. A Private Moment: Addison and Chad loved spending their big day with all their family and friends, but they made sure they stole some private time together too (with an amazing photographer standing by to capture the moment, obviously!).
