11 Hot Creative Trends Influencing Art and Design This Year

Trends come and go, and while they aren’t all for everyone, knowing what’s popular with people can help you stay relevant. Whether you plan to rock some stylish spring #OOTDs, are looking to spruce up your home decor game, or just need to know what’s up for work purposes, Shutterstock’s latest report — which features 11 creativity and design trends to watch this year — is sure to serve as a source of ultra-valuable intel. Read on for the breakdown.

the Top 3 Creative Trends to Know This Year

A mysterious black cabin sits in a field of flowers

“This year’s report highlights some of the biggest year-over-year increases in Creative Trends history,” highlights curator Robin Lange from the Shutterstock team. “The strong data points to a few distinct trends and major increases in very specific themes.”

1. Fantasy: According to Shutterstock, search for recognizable fantasy characters is up in a huge way. Find it hard to believe? Consider that quite a few of our faves — like unicorns (up 297 percent) and mermaids (up 145 percent) — belong in this bucket.

2. New Minimalism: From clean white walls to a “less is more” type of mentality, minimalism has evolved to suit modern times. Shutterstock shows that searches for “continuous line” increased by an impressive 432 percent, while the term “neon circle” was looked for 387 percent more. Pop of color, anyone?

3. Space: “The creative world is taking note of box office hits with an emphasis on space,” confirms the team at Shutterstock. To prove the point, data shows that solar searches have risen 991 percent, while interest in all things astro appears 671 percent more than it did last year. When it comes to sound, sci-fi-influenced synthwave has risen in popularity too. (Talk about a trend that’s literally out of this world!)

8 More Creative Trends to Get on Your Radar

1. Punchy Pastels: Pops of color can brighten up any drab design. Hues like bright blue and candy colors rule while helping redefine the meaning of delicate. Put one of these popular palettes to use to help give a space or look some punch.

2. Natural Luxury: Feel like you’ve been seeing tons of cool bohemian stuff lately? It’s not your imagination. The Shutterstock report shows a real rise in the popularity of new age aesthetics, plus a big uptick in styles that incorporate marble and agate. “These add luxe effects that can be subtle or dramatic,” the team notes.

3. Global March: It’s been about a century since the first big push for women’s suffrage around the globe, and this year has shown the continued rise of women with movements like #MeToo and Time’s Up. According to Shutterstock, searches for International Women’s Day are up 660 percent, while activism saw an increase of 540 percent. Awesome!

4. Digital Crafts: “Traditional paper- and fabric-centric crafts, like embroidery and paper art, have found new life in a new era,” the Shutterstock team reports. But who’s really surprised? We know first-hand how far texture and whimsy can go on the web, even when limited by pixels and digital screens.

5. Cactus: Trending jungalows and dreamy, desert-inspired destinations have popped up everywhere on Instagram in recent months, while wallpapers and prints further prove the cactus’s increasing popularity. Online searches show the same interest in the spiky plant’s new age tendencies for health and healing — searches are up a significant 261 percent.

6. Ancient Geometrics: Everything old can be new again, and a fascination with ancient geometrics has crept up in searches. Specifically, it’s the term “arabesque” — up a whopping 8,536 percent, it stood out as the most popular term for the entire year. Guilloche (an architectural ornamentation that looks like braided ribbons) and mandalas (a spiritual and ritual symbol) also prove to be popular as they show big search spikes. “It’s clear that ancient geometrics are universally loved,” agrees Lange; “their symmetry makes for a perfect backdrop, but it’s their ancient mystical nature that makes them such compelling design elements.”

7. Cryptocurrency: Searches for cryptocurrency are up a huge 1,264 percent as outlets continue to address the public’s curiosity about Bitcoin, Ripple, and other new intangible currencies. Looks like crypto-based convos aren’t likely to slow down anytime soon.

8. Holographic Foil: “This is one to watch!” the Shutterstock team promises. “Up 435 percent in searches, a holograph’s chameleon palette of shimmering colors works on so many levels: As a high or low culture, as old or new, as playful or serious — and it’s always beautiful in an application.”

We all want gorgeous, voluminous hair, but not every day is a good hair day — or week or month. Noticing more shedding than usual? Maybe your part's looking wider or your scalp’s peeking through a little more than it used to? You’re so not alone. The good news is there’s help that doesn’t require a doctor’s office visit (or insurance).

We teamed up with Hers to share three no-fuss tips for getting thicker, fuller hair — and yep, one of them includes their personalized hair regrowth treatments. Hers makes it simple to get started: you’ll answer some questions, 100 percent online, and a licensed provider will help you find the right solution for you, from serums to pills or chews.

Hers

These dermatologist-approved formulas, including Hers most popularHair Vitamins + Minoxidil, include minoxidil, an ingredient proven to regrow hair in 3 to 6 months.* If prescribed you just apply once a day. Here are a few low-key tweaks to your daily routine to experience thicker, healthier hair just in time for summer.

1. Massage Your Scalp

Healthy hair starts at the root — literally. Think of your scalp like soil: the better you treat it, the more your hair can thrive. You don’t need to overhaul your entire shower routine; just start by incorporating a gentle scalp massage when you shampoo. This helps increase blood flow and removes buildup that can clog hair follicles.

Greta Hoffman

Quick tip: Use your fingertips (not nails!) or a scalp brush.Hers Hair Blends Serums is an extra boost you can apply directly to your dry scalp to stimulate regrowth, if prescribed.

2. Swap Out Your Pillowcase

Silk and satin pillowcases can actually help reduce friction, which means less breakage and fewer tangles while you sleep. Cotton can be surprisingly rough on your strands, especially if you're already dealing with thinning or damage. This is a quick, one-time change that can benefit your hair and your skin. Win-win.

3. Explore Prescription Treatments

Sometimes, your hair just needs a little help from the inside out. Hers offers access to dermatologist-trusted treatment options that can give you thicker, fuller hair. For example,Hers Hair Vitamins + Minoxidil can help boost blood flow to the hair follicles, extend the hair growth phase and keep stimulating regrowth to help thicken your hair. Adrianna Papell

Adrianna Papell Foiled Mermaid Gown With Halter Neckline

Okay, you may think, "Hm...this is basically the butter yellow dress you dropped in above," but you would be wrong. Plus, a halter top is so springy — I can't help but have more than one in this roundup!

Lulus

Lulus Gemmi Light Blue Satin Jacquard Drop Waist Maxi Dress

Drop waist dresses are EVERYTHING right now. So pairing that with the light blue jacquard I already love so much? Yeah, you've got a real winner with this gown.

Anthropologie

V. Chapman Vera Ruffle-Strap Corset Side-Slit Midi Dress

Corsets are still very much in right now. I love how dainty and delicate this dress looks, while still being a darker navy blue. Again, it's giving a great option for the girlies who don't exactly love a spring pastel, but still wanna adopt a lighter feel to their look!

Abercrombie

The A&F Giselle Drop-Waist Maxi Dress

Butter yellow + a drop waist + a strapless neckline? That's a recipe for elegance you just can't pass up! I can totally picture dancing the night away in this stunning pleated skirt!

For more than two centuries, Jane Austen's novels have continued to captivate readers with their wit and romance. But aside from their timeless stories and swoon-worthy affairs, her works also serve as stellar inspiration for baby names.

Whether you're drawn to classic choices like Henry or more unique surnames, such as Darcy, there's no shortage of character and charm to be found. So, for devoted Jane Austen fans or those who simply love vintage and sophisticated names, here are eight iconic picks inspired by some of her most revered works.

Scroll to see all our favorite Jane Austen-inspired baby names for 2025!

1. Anne

Mochi Mochi

Anne Elliot, the resilient heroine of Persuasion, is one of Jane Austen's most introspective protagonists. She was once persuaded to reject her true love and endured years of regret before she got a second chance at happiness.

True to her name, which means "grace" and "favor," Anne embodied quiet dignity and inner strength. This moniker is derived from Hebrew and carries a ton of other historical significance, too, from biblical figures to queens.

2. Edward

Huy Nguyễn

Loyal and kind-hearted, Edward Ferrars of Sense and Sensibility is a hero who values integrity over wealth and status.

The name Edward, which is rooted in Old English, means "wealthy guard," a fitting title for a character so protective and principled. It's perfect for a little boy who carries a sense of honor and dependability.

3. Emma

Marisa Fahrner

Emma Woodhouse is the heroine of Jane Austen's Emma. She's spirited, charming, and well-meaning, but her matchmaking endeavors lead to some trouble before she ultimately finds love of her own.

This name means "whole" or "universal" and has a history stretching from medieval royalty to modern-day pop culture icons like Emma Watson and Emma Stone. It's well-suited for a baby girl who's going to leave her mark on the world.

4. Darcy

Murat Arpacı

Fitzwilliam Darcy is the brooding yet devoted hero in Pride and Prejudice. Once reserved as a surname, Darcy has evolved into a stylish, gender-neutral first name. It has Irish roots and means "dark-haired."

Darcy carries an air of mystery and intrigue, so it will definitely command attention.

5. Henry

Анна Хазова

In Northanger Abbey, Henry Tilney is a true gentleman who's humorous and warm, making this pick all the more appealing.

Derived from the German "Heimeric," meaning "house ruler," Henry has long been linked to kings. Today, the name blends strength with approachability.

6. Elinor

Pavel Danilyuk

Elinor Dashwood is the practical eldest sister in Sense and Sensibility. She embodies quiet strength, emotional depth, and thoughtfulness.

As a variation of Eleanor, the name Elinor has French and Arabic roots. It's often associated with meanings like "light" and "brilliance," making it a beautiful choice for a baby girl.

7. George

Nicole Peri

Even though most people remember the kind and wise Mr. Knightley in Emma by his surname, his first name is actually the classic George.

This moniker, which means "farmer" or "earthworker" in Greek, has a traditional charm. It's been associated with everyone from the British royal family to George Harrison of the Beatles, and can point to a flourishing future for your newest addition.

8. Frances

Сергей Терентьев

Finally, Frances "Fanny" Price of Mansfield Park is unforgettable due to her resilience and moral compass.

The name, which means "free" or "truthful," was originally derived from Latin and became very popular in Britain. Frances has a timeless grace to it that feels sincere yet strong, and the nickname Fanny is undeniably adorable.
