DWTS: Athletes’ Keo Motsepe and Jennie Finch-Daigle on Their Biggest Competition

Keo Motsepe and Jennie Finch-Daigle are one of six couples left on Dancing With the Stars: Athletes. Along with Mirai Nagasu and Alan Bersten, Adam Rippon and Jenna Johnson, Chris Mazdzer and Witney Carson, Tonya Harding and Sasha Farber, and Josh Norman and Sharna Burgess, they survived the first two weeks of the four-week season and are heading into their third on Monday, May 14.

The race for the Mirrorball is shaping up to be a tough one, but Finch-Daigle — who helped lead Team USA to softball gold at the 2004 Olympics — knows a thing or two about performing under pressure. And she has a great coach in Motsepe, who is in his seventh season as a pro on DWTS. We caught up with the pair in between rehearsals for Monday’s new episode and got the scoop on their partnership, their upcoming performance, and their biggest competition.

Brit + Co: Jennie, what was your reaction when you were asked to do Dancing With the Stars? Were you a fan of the show before that?

Jennie Finch Daigle: Yeah, it’s something that I always thought would be an amazing opportunity and experience, and then when I found out it was the athlete version and it was a shorter season, I was like, oh, for sure. Because being a mom a three, I thought it would be way too difficult to pull off a normal season. So it felt like this was a perfect opportunity to take advantage of it, be a part of it, and learn how to dance.

B+C: Did you know anything about Keo before you met him?

JFD: No, other than seeing him on the show. That was it.

B+C: Keo, did you know anything about Jennie before you met her?

Keo Motsepe: For sure. I have a very good friend who’s into softball. He loves softball so much. And he told me, “It’d be so cool if you danced with Jennie Finch!” Even my parents — when I told them who I was dancing with, my mom was like, “Oh, yeah, the blonde?” So I knew who she was, but through my parents and my friends.

B+C: Jennie, what was your biggest fear going into this? And what were you most excited about?

JFD: I think my biggest fear was just being so far from my comfort zone. I’ve never felt great on the dance floor. I’ve never really had rhythm. I found rhythm through sports, but other than that, I don’t have any. And then the time crunch — it’s not like we have months to train. You’re kind of thrown into the fire and you have to perform on the big stage in front of millions of people a week-and-a-half later.

And then I think what I was most looking forward to was kind of the same thing, just learning to dance from the best of the best and getting that opportunity and just seeing what I was capable of. And it’s so much fun to be able to get costumes made and hair and makeup done and just to be a part of this experience.

B+C: What do your kids think of you doing the show?

JFD: At first I don’t think they really understood. But then going out to California and actually being a part of the first show, now they’re dancing maniacs. Oh my goodness, it’s so funny and so cute. They love Keo. It’s been so much fun. They’re really getting into it and enjoying it and having Keo around. It’s a good experience.

B+C: What were your first days of rehearsal like?

KM: First days, wow. Well, first of all, when I teach somebody, I have to see how well they move. I taught her how to walk. I literally taught her how to walk properly. … That was our first day. And then also technique, the basics of dancing. I don’t think she expected that. I think she wanted to just come into the studio and be a champion, like, “I know how to dance!” I was like, “No, I’m going to teach you how to walk first, and then we’ll talk about [dancing].”

JFD: I had an extra set of clothes ready because [I thought] I was going to sweat through my first outfit. I was ready to get out there, and here we were walking. I was like, “This is so not what I expected. You’re supposed to make me a dancer, not just a walker. Let’s go!” But just like anything, I think my mind was 18 steps ahead. You have to learn the fundamentals and basics first before you get there.

B+C: You’re going into week three of competition now. Can you share anything about what you’re working on?

KM: We’re doing the Viennese waltz for Monday, but we have two dances — we have one that’s just me and her, and then another one that’s called a battle. We’re battling with Tonya [Harding] and Sasha [Farber], and we’re doing a cha cha.

B+C: Which dance has been the most challenging so far?

KM (to JFD): Why are you looking at me?! [Laughs]

JFD: You’re my coach! Which one was hardest to teach me?

KM: Nothing is hard to teach you. Nothing is hard.

JFD: I think [the hardest thing] is just trusting my stuff. And I think the performance part has been tough for me, because I think I’m emotional and I think I’m over-the-top with it, but when it’s on TV or on film or recorded, it’s like, “Wait a minute, how do I go five levels further to make it look like that?” I think as an athlete, I’ve always tried to have a competitor’s face, and with dancing you have to show emotion, which I guess I’m not used to.

KM: It’s different emotions every day. It’s a fine line, because sometimes you look at your package, and you talk to me about, like, “Oh my god, that time in my life,” but then you come on the floor and do a happy dance and it doesn’t work. Like, hold on, it doesn’t make sense. She’s talking about how sad she is. When we choreograph, we choreograph based on the story. So if you’re talking about your husband or anything like that — so beautiful and romantic — and then you come on the floor and you’re sad, it’s kind of weird.

B+C: Are you guys happy with your scores so far?

KM: No. [Laughs] The last one, I wasn’t happy. I think we could have done better. I think there’s always room for improvement. So it makes us push even harder. So here we come on Monday with an awesome dance. I’m very proud of this dance. It’s going to be very beautiful.

B+C: Keo, what’s your favorite thing about working with Jennie?

KM: My favorite thing about Jennie is she’s so tall. [Laughs] As a guy, when you have a tall partner, your frame looks good, your lines look good. But other than that, I think she’s a hard worker. And seeing her with her kids and her family, it’s a blessing for me to be around that. Seeing how Jennie and her husband are just so in love, I think every day is just so beautiful. I’m like, wow, that’s what true love is all about. Nothing else matters.

B+C: Jennie, what’s your favorite thing about working with Keo?

JFD: I think his heart. He’s always so joyful. I love his laugh. And he’s super-patient with me. He loves what he does, and he’s passionate about it, and he loves people, and he brings joy wherever he goes.

B+C: Who do you see as your biggest competition this season?

JFD: I think ourselves, in a way. It’s intense. I mean, two people are going home every week, so it’s not like you can pace yourself. Every week it’s like the finale, almost, because anybody can go home. Obviously people who are performers, I think they might have an advantage there, but ultimately, we’ve always tried to just focus on ourselves and not what other people are doing or who we’re up against.

B+C: Jennie, which was more nerve-wracking: performing on Dancing With the Stars for the first time, or pitching in the Olympics?

JFD: I mean, my heart was racing [for both]. But I feel way more prepared on the softball field. I trained my whole life for that. This is like, I’m trying to pretend I’m a good dancer with two weeks of training. Like, that’s not going to happen. But with Keo, I’m hoping! I’m trying to fake it until I make it.

KM: I’m happy with where she is right now!

Deep breaths – Daisy Jones And The Six might actually return for Season 2. Even though the Amazon Prime show ended its first season on March 24, fans are demanding more of their favorite band of six, and TBH...we can’t blame them!

The show, which was set to be a limited series with one season, might return for more, according to cast member Josh Whitehouse (Eddie Roundtree). He uploaded a rather cryptic TikTok earlier this year that alluded to a potential second season, but our hopes of seeing a tour were dashed. But, not all hope is lost!

Here's what we know so far.

www.instagram.com

Sadly, we won't be getting a Daisy Jones And The Six Tour due to the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike that halted many ongoing and new projects — bummer! Riley Keough took to Instagram to share the gloomy news where Reese Witherspoon commented, "Aghhhh! Still hoping for this live performance.. one day !!"

She's not the only one who's saddened over this news though. Other comments mimicked her sentiments and we can't help but long for what could've been. Let's keep our fingers crossed that someone will give the fans what we want later this year!

www.tiktok.com

Hm, funny thing happened today 😙🎸🎶🕺🏻🤭 #daisyjonesandthesix

Prior to this, Josh Whitehouse previously captioned an unavailable TikTok video “Just arrived at a rehearsal studio, to, uh, have a band practice with Daisy Jones and the Six. But we already finished the TV show, so why would we be doing that?” Whitehouse questioned.

Taylor Jenkins Reid, the bestselling author and co-producer of Daisy Jones and The Six (who also wrote some of our other favorite books, BTW) has “certainly thought” about a second season.

Reid and Executive Producer Brad Mendelsohn aren’t ruling anything out. “I think we’re in a really fortunate position where we have a story that is final, and has an ending that feels really good,” Reid said in an exclusive interview with Variety. “I would only open that back up if it felt like there was a story here that we have to tell. Have I been thinking about what that is? I certainly have.”

Fans have already flooded social media with demands for more of their favorite ‘70s show.

Daisy Jones and The Six is based on the novel by Jenkins Reid, which is loosely inspired by the tortured IRL romance of Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. The incredibly talented cast also produced an album, AURORA, which we truly cannot stop listening to.

In a TikTok posted by Sam Claflin (Billy Dunne), some of the Daisy Jones crew could be seen in a studio with guitars and mics in hand.

This mysterious post followed the album “Special Gift to Our Fans,” which included two singles that initially debuted during the show. The releases were, “It Was Always You,” sung by leading lady Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) and a second rendition of “Aurora,” which was performed by the whole band on Saturday Night Live.

The rumors of a rumored tour circled ever since the show aired, and cast members shared their thoughts on taking the band from TV to real life.

“You know there’s rumblings…I don't know if we have anything in terms of a full tour, but there might be an opportunity for us to get together in places. So if anyone’s looking forward to something like that I’d say just, eh, keep an eye out,” Will Harrison (Graham Dunne) said in an interview. When asked if he received a call about a tour, Harrison replied, “I would absolutely answer the call in a second.”

Since an IRL tour isn't happening any time soon, we'll be on the lookout for a second season of our favorite band.

You know what's better than a tour? Seeing Suki Waterhouse and Camila Morrone unite onstage again! They both looked so freakin' good with Suki wearing a cropped purple fur coat and metallic boots while Camila wore a pink, fur-trimmed, and shimmery number. As far as we can tell, Suki and Camila looked like they were excited to surprise unsuspecting fans.

Comments on the fun clip ranged from "THIS IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME" to "This makes me want to rewatch Daisy Jones for the 4th time." All I can say is something about seeing Suki and Camila share a carefree moment is making my heart smile.

Tell us, Brit + Co readers, what do you think about Daisy Jones and the Six? Do you think a follow up is in our future?

Dunkin’s winter menu for 2025 is lookin’ pretty sweet. Seriously – per recent menu leaks, 3 out of 5 new drinks (allegedly) coming to the menu are inspired by cake. Since there’s little I love more than a good, decadent dessert (other than coffee, of course), I’m especially excited about this speculated lineup!

The Dunkin’ winter menu leaks also report one sweet snack and an iced espresso drink that are both hauntingly similar to what Starbucks has to offer. Is the competition heating up, or is it just me?

Rumor has it that the Dunkin’ winter menu will drop on December 31, just ahead of the new year. This new menu leak is not to be confused with Dunkin's holiday menu, which dropped on November 1.

Let’s officially get into it. Here’s everything rumored to join the Dunkin’ winter menu for 2025!

Drinks On The Leaked Dunkin' Winter Menu

@snackolator

NEW! Lava Cake Signature Latte

Lava Cake Swirl flavoring, whipped cream, mocha drizzle, and hot chocolate powder. Now that's a mouthful! That's exactly how this new rumored drink is built – with tons and tons of chocolate. If you've got a strong sweet tooth, start marking your calendar for December 31 (AKA when the Dunkin' winter menu is rumored to drop).

@snackolator

NEW! Lava Cake Coffee

Dunkin' is also rumored to feature the new Lava Cake Swirl flavoring in this creamy coffee. It looks like it'll be available to order hot or iced!

@snackolator

Brown Sugar Shakin' Espresso

Um, Starbucks dupe, anyone?! Dunkin's version of the famed Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso is rumored to follow a very similar recipe to the Starbies way: espresso (shaken until frothy), brown sugar syrup, and oat milk. I can't wait to try this one and see how it measures up to my routine Starbucks order.

Dunkin'

Brown Sugar Oat Iced Matcha Latte

Per menu leaks, it also appears Dunkin' will offer two new in-app exclusive drinks, the first being the Brown Sugar Oat Iced Matcha Latte. It's like your average iced matcha latte, amped up with some brown sugar syrup and oat milk. Yum.

@snackolator

Raspberry Lava Cake Coffee

The second in-app exclusive drink on the leaked Dunkin' winter menu is the Raspberry Lava Cake Coffee, which features a dose of Lava Cake Swirl alongside a raspberry flavor shot and cream. You'll be able to order this one hot or iced.

Food On The Leaked Dunkin' Winter Menu

@snackolator

NEW! Whoopie Pie Specialty Donut

Now, onto the good stuff. The Dunkin' winter menu leak suggests that a new donut is on the way! The Whoopie Pie Specialty Donut will feature a halved glazed chocolate cake donut that's filled with vanilla whipped buttercreme icing and topped with a cute lil' buttercreme rosette.

Dunkin'

Iced Lemon Loaf Cake

Okay, yet another Starbucks similarity! The menu leak speculates this zesty-sweet snack will return on December 31. Dunkin's Iced Lemon Loaf Cake is moist as can be, and is topped with a thick layer of lemon icing.

More Leaked Dunkin' Menu Items

Dunkin'

Dunkin' Valentine's Donuts

The menu leak that announced the Dunkin' winter menu for 2025 also dropped some hints about the chain's Valentine's Day offerings.

According to the leak, the Brownie Batter (pictured above) and Cupid's Choice donuts will return on January 29. What's even more exciting is that a new iteration of Dunkin's Munchkins will be available, too!

The new Valentine's Munchkins will reportedly be made from glazed chocolate donut holes coated in Valentine's-esque sprinkles. I'm craving them already!

Yellowstone universe fans rejoice! The second season of 1923 is on its way, and not only do we have the first look at the characters, but we FINALLY have the 1923 season 2 release date — and it's way sooner than I expected. Ever since season 1 ended with the Duttons scattered (and Spencer and Alex split up), I haven't been able to stop thinking about how and when they'll reunite (PLEASE let it be sooner rather than later!!!) And the new 1923 season 2 teaser trailer proves they aren't going down without a fight...literally.

Keep scrolling to see the brand new 1923 season 2 teaser trailer starring Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, and Brandon Sklenar.

The '1923' season 2 teaser trailer proves we're in for more drama.

Probably the most important piece of news from the 1923 season 2 teaser is that it tells us new episodes are coming to Paramount+ February 23! We also see all our favorite Dutton family members, and I'm simply grateful. Jacob and Cara Dutton (Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren) hold down the fort at the Yellowstone ranch in Montana, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) fights to get back to them (I mean "fighting" quite literally based on his bloody nose and a quick clip of what looks like a boxing).

Elsewhere, Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) is still stuck on the transatlantic sea voyage with only the return address on Cara's letters to guide her, Jack (Darren Mann) protects both the ranch and his wife Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph), and Teonna (Aminah Nieves) is still on the move to get to safety. Maybe she'll have a run-in with the Duttons of her own — I just know that Jacob and Cara would take her in!

'1923' season 2 is going to be "absolutely incredible," according to Brandon Sklenar.

It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar has been vocal about how amazing season 2 is going to be. “I can confidently say that it’s going to be absolutely incredible,” Brandon tells Forbes. “The tone shifts a lot and it’s definitely a bit darker. It’s very beautiful.” Okay I'm not really sure how season 2 could be darker than season 1 (and TBH, that makes me a little nervous), but more than anything, I'm just excited to dig in. Based on how quickly I devoured season 1, I can't wait to see what else creator Taylor Sheridan has up his sleeve.

And just like me, Julia is hoping for a happy reunion between Spencer and Alex! “I would love for Alex to make it to the ranch and meet the family,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I hope we get to see some of her own strength come out now that she’s on her own. I want to meet the Dutton women. I think that that would be a lot of fun — and Teonna, we all want to meet Teonna.” GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT PARAMOUNT!

A Complete Unknown finally rolls into theaters on Christmas Day (you know..like a rolling stone?) but the cast is already generating serious buzz. Timothée Chalamet snagged a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Bob Dylan, while Monica Barbaro just won the Astra Film Awards' Breakthrough Performer Award. But when I sat down with the actress, I couldn't help but go all the way back to the first day of filming the December movie.

Here's what A Complete Unknown's Monica Barbaro had to say about meeting Timothée Chalamet and learning guitar for the role of Joan Baez.

Monica Barbaro loved working with Timothée Chalamet on 'A Complete Unknown.'

Monica revealed in a Rolling Stone interview that she met Timothée Chalamet a week before filming — and that he was already more-or-less in character. "The first time we met was a music rehearsal," she tells Brit + Co exclusively. "So we just really launched right into it, which was nice because I admired his work so much from afar and any level of intimidation that I may have had, I could just sort of funnel into music prep, which was great."

"It was a beautiful experience of getting to hear our voices harmonize as these characters and hear the accompaniment of our guitars," she continues. "And we were able to kind of like anchor ourselves in the music and have sort of a meeting of minds that was maybe a little more similar to Joan and Bob because they met in the music scene as already very proficient musicians. So that was a beautiful magical day. And then we like launched right into filming."

Monica Barbaro (who you'll recognize from Top Gun2) stars as musician Joan Baez, and even though Monica had to learn how to play guitar for the role, you'd never guess just by watching the film. She carries herself with such confidence and ease that I'd have believed she'd been playing her whole life. And the fact her voice sounds like a Disney princess is just the cherry on top.

"I'm not a singer, I didn't play guitar," she says. "So there was sort of this introductory level thing going on where I just had to figure out how to form my hands and in some way, I thought about how she might have done that at like 14, I think, when she first picked up guitar. But that was just like an overhaul of everything — I mean, all my time just poured into that training."

She was doing her own research, but also worked with vocal coach Eric Vetro, who's also worked with Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and Shawn Mendes. "He encouraged me to consider what the lyrics of songs meant to her," Monica says. "Because the best musicians are storytellers and that's one of the best things about he renditions of these folk songs is you feel the story of the song."

And because of that, focusing on the lyrics "was also a part of the character development. So there were sort of siloed things like voice, guitar research, and then her speaking voice," she says. "And then all of those things started to just kind of like meld, you know. You have to play and sing at the same time and tell a story and do it from the perspective of Joan. And so so they just sort of over time kind of like bridged."

But no matter how much prep Monica, Timothée, and Elle Fanning (who stars as Sylvie Russo) did for the film, they still had to film in the middle of New York City, which came with its own set of 2024-specific challenges. "It was interesting to be filming and have people sneaking videos and posting them on the internet," she says, admitting that she "really just tried to turn all of that off to the best of my ability."

The film highlights the tension between celebrity and fame, considering we meet Bob Dylan right before he becomes, well, Bob Dylan. "It's a privilege to have to have so much attention and excitement on a project and I appreciate the intent, but you kind of just sort of turn it off a little bit and disengage," Monica says, "especially when you're talking about just a very different kind of fame in the sixties."
