Diane Kruger Says Her Split From Joshua Jackson ‘Was a Long Time Coming’

When Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson split in the summer of 2016, fans were sad to see the end of their 10-year relationship, even if the two remained good (and adorably supportive!) friends in the months that followed. Now, Kruger is opening up about the breakup, admitting that it was actually liberating to let go of something that ultimately wasn’t working.

“That was something that was a long time coming,” she recently told Vulture. “Also, we broke up many months before we said we were broken up, so by the time I made that decision, it didn’t feel like it was so urgent anymore. You don’t break up overnight after 10 years, you know what I mean?”

Kruger went on to describe the split — which came during a year of other personal difficulties, such as the deaths of her grandmother and stepfather — as sad, but admitted that as she got to work on her challenging new film In The Fade, it was a relief not to have to stress about it any longer.

“Actually, it felt liberating,” the actress told Vulture. “Because I didn’t have to worry about that anymore, so I could immerse myself 100 percent into something else. I felt like I did nothing else but that. Nobody came to visit me, I didn’t have to worry about anything else but this,” she continued, admitting that a long-term significant other was a “distraction” she didn’t want at the time.

Kruger has since been linked with The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus. She told Vulture that, in the wake of her heartbreaking year and completing preparations and filming for her heavy new movie, she’s happy to have someone to share things with once again.

“Coming out of it was a long process that mostly involved my family because we were healing and grieving the loss of my stepdad together,” she admits. “And I was lucky to have my friends and my partner there to just be present and walk that walk with me to the light.”

May 2017: The relationship kicks off

Now let’s transport to nearly 11 years later! Though they’d known each other for a while, it wasn’t until May of 2017 that Scarlett and Colin had sparked rumors about their relationship.

Scarlett had guest starred on the SNL season finale and joined the cast and crew for a celebratory afterparty, in which Colin was in attendance.

According to Page Six, the duo were seen talking, flirting, and canoodling. At the time, Scarlett was going through a divorce with a French journalist named Romain Dauriac, with whom she shares one daughter.

September 2017: No more rumors

Colin confirmed the rumors that he and Scarlett were dating at the 2017 Emmy Awards, telling Entertainment Tonight: "She's pretty cool… it's hard to have a lot of complaints, she's pretty awesome. I'm very happy. I feel very lucky."

They made their very first public appearance together that November at the American Museum of Natural History Gala in New York City.

Scarlett had settled her divorce and custody over her daughter with Romain Dauriac around this time as well.

Scarlett and Colin stepped out together to many events in 2018, but they looked exceptionally elegant at the 2018 Met Gala. The theme for that year was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”

Scarlett gave birth to their first son, Cosmo, in August 2021. The couple had kept the pregnancy quite private beforehand.

Several months later, the two were very happy to share more about their first child. Scarlett told Entertainment Tonight, "I feel very fortunate that I've been able to take this time to really enjoy the early stages of my motherhood with our son. It's been wonderful. I'm in a 'baby bliss bubble.'"

She later explained the name Cosmo on The Kelly Clarkson Show, saying that she and Colin had "just threw a bunch of letters together."

November 26, 2024 — Scarlett Johansson Spills On Colin Jost's "Naughty Side"

As we get closer to Christmas, we're all thinking about naughty vs. nice — or at least, Scarlett Johansson is! During a appearance on Live With Kelly & Mark, ScarJo joked that Colin "has also got his naughty side, you know. That’s why he keeps it interesting.”

Apparently Colin bought a Staten Island ferry in 2022 with Pete Davidson (which is totally giving Rory Gilmore, FYI), which Scarlett says "is the naughty part I was talking about.”

But he's also a great partner, and showered Scarlett with love on her 40th birthday earlier in November 2024. “He’s a good guy," she continues. "He is a very, very, very great guy. I’m extremely lucky. He’s a kind person and he’s hilarious and thoughtful and loving and he’s a great dad and I love him. I feel very, very lucky."

The source said, "Gisele and Joaquim are happy for this new chapter in their life and they're looking forward to creating a peaceful and loving environment for the whole family."

Recently, a source told PEOPLE that Gisele's “excited to embrace this new chapter openly," and she's “received many positive messages and congratulations" since the news broke. While the source also noted that Gisele "wanted to keep the news private for as long as possible," they also explained that she "feels good" right now. According to them, she seems focused on her health by doing pilates and other exercises, meditating, and eating well! We're glad to hear Gisele's taking care of herself — and her baby — first!

Joaquim Valente is a jiu-jitsu professional at his family-owned studio, Valente Brothers. The 34-year-old continues a decades-long tradition of teaching this martial art to future generations — and his girlfriend!

These two have been linked together since 2022, but didn't start officially dating until June 2023 according to PEOPLE. In 2024, a source also told PEOPLE that this wasn't "a serious love affair," but the tides have clearly turned since then.

In March 2024, Gisele The New York Times, “This is the first time I am seeing someone that was a friend of mine first." She then noted, “It’s very different. It is very honest, and it’s very transparent.” She also was quick to deny that there was any overlap with her ex-husband, stressing that these types of rumors happen "to a lot of women" who "have the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship."

As for the most current state of Gisele and Joaquim's relationship? A source told Page Six, “Their chemistry together has always been there and they have a lot in common. They've been in love for a while." That being said, sources also told Page Sixthat they don't think the pair will get married "anytime soon." Despite Gisele being "thrilled" to welcome another child, her friends tell the outlet that the couple will just "live together for now."

While sources told TMZthat Gisele Bündchen told Tom Brady about her pregnancy before the news broke to the general public, other sources told Page Sixthat he only just found out "very recently" — and apparently, he didn't find out from Gisele. Sources explained to Page Six that the ex-spouses "talk when they have to." So I guess this situation didn't exactly qualify as having to talk...

Still, a source close to the situation explained to Page Six that Tom was "stunned" to find out about the news. “Tom knew that things were serious between Gisele and Joaquin but he never imagined they would be having a child together,” they said. "“It just wasn’t something that was on his radar. So when Gisele broke the news to him he was stunned, to say the least.”

Tom hasn't made an official statement about Gisele's pregnancy, but he did take to Instagram on October 28. The former football star posted an image of the sunset, three hearts, and The Chicks' cover of "Landslide." The Stevie Nicks original is all about the changes life brings, so Tom's seemingly alluding to the changes coming in his own life.

And that same Page Sixsource noted that Tom's “grown used to the idea and he’s happy for Gisele.” They said, “At the end of the day, Tom’s sole focus is on his children and his career. What Gisele decides to do with her own life is really none of his business.”

On November 12, 2024, Tom Brady spoke at the 2024 Fortune Global Forum — and while he didn't mention his ex-wife's current pregnancy, he did open up about what it's like to be his child, per TMZ. He said, All of the parents of the room know that being a parent is probably the hardest job all of us have, and we screw up a lot — and I've screwed up a lot as a parent." Despite that, Tom explained that he wants to be "dependable and consistent" for his kids, and let them explore the hobbies that excite them most — the same way his parents did. Still, Tom notes that it "sucks" when it comes to being his son in "so many ways," explaining that his kids "naturally are gonna be faced with their own challenges."

Now, with Thanksgiving right around the corner, Tom and Gisele allegedly "won't be celebrating Thanksgiving together," according to an exclusive Page Sixsource. Apparently, Gisele and Joaquim are taking her kids to Costa Rica for the holiday, and Tom is "supportive and that’s the arrangement he and Gisele have agreed upon.” What will the beloved QB do on Turkey Day?
