11 Surprising Disney Easter Eggs You Never Knew You Missed

When it comes to genius Easter eggs — those suuuuper sneaky little jokes or references tucked away within the plot of a story or film that only a true fan notices — no one does it better than Disney. For years, the O.G. Mouseketeer and his team have been dropping little references, innuendos and double entendres into their masterpieces — more than we can even begin to count (and we expect some in the newest Disney movie too!). But, in honor of this Easter Sunday, we’re sharing our absolute faves that your inner kid will freak over. Read on to see which precious little nuggets made the cut!

1. Mickey and Minnie: The people who voice the characters of Mickey and Minnie are married in real life. If that’s not the greatest fact ever, we don’t know what is. (Photo by Jemal Countess/Getty)

2. The Hunchback of Notre Dame: This one is a two-for-one special. Belle from Beauty and the Beast makes a cameo as she’s out for a stroll (with her nose in a book, natch) to the tune of “Out There” in The Hunchback, and The Lion King’s Pumba is immortalized in stone as a gargoyle later in the film. (Photo via Handout/Getty)

3. 101 Dalmatians: 101 Dalmatians is not only chock-full of spots, it’s chock-full of fabulous Easter eggs too. For example, among those helping Pongo and Perdi find their stolen puppies in the canine Scottland Yard? Lady and Tramp themselves, who can be seen in the twilight bark scene and their best pal Jock. Later, when the puppies are spotted in a pet shop, you’ll also see Peg, Tramp’s former supposed paramour (pre-Lady, of course!). (Image via Disney)

4. Oliver & Company: Tramp’s gang just can’t stay away from a good dog flick — Jock, Peg and Trusty also make a brief appearance in Oliver & Company. Also tucked away? Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective and Scooby Doo, who pops up in framed photos during the “Perfect Isn’t Easy” musical number. The hidden gems don’t stop, as Princess Aurora in the flesh casually saunters by in a background shot. And is that… ? Why, yes — yes, it is! Pongo’s here too, chuckling during a song-and-dance ditty. (Image via Disney)

5. Aladdin: If you look closely, when the Sultan is stacking his toy animals (prior to being hypnotized by that no-good rogue, Jafar), you’ll find that one of them isn’t an animal at all, in fact, but the Beast from (what else?) Beauty and the Beast. And did we mention that the character of Aladdin is based on Tom Cruise? (Photo via KevinWinter/Getty)

6. Hercules: Disney World aficionados may pick up on the fact that the singing stone muses in Hercules are positioned the exact same way as the singing ghosts at the Haunted Mansion. The Lion King’s Scar also shows up (albeit dead) as a rug. (Photo via Scott Brinegar/Getty)

7. Frozen: In the credits of Frozen, Disney vehemently expresses that when Kristoff says, “all men eat their own boogers,” that his “views are solely his own and do not reflect the views or opinions of The Walt Disney Company or its filmmakers.” Thank goodness they clarified that for us all! (Photo via Mark Ashman/Getty)

8. Fantasia: The movie’s central story, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, features a tall, mysterious sorcerer named Yen Sid. Wait a minute… Yen… Sid… Y… E… N… S… I… D. Hmmm. Kind of rings a bell when spelled out in reverse, no? (Image via Disney)

9. A Goofy Movie: The main mouse himself, Mickey, stands out above the crowd (well, in it, but get it?!) in one of the fan crowd shots, and the crocodile from Peter Pan can be seen hiding in the form of a backstage prop. (Photo via Jason Kempin/Getty)

10. The Great Mouse Detective: One of Ratigan’s cohorts reminds us of a certain lizard (Bill) from Alice in Wonderland. Oh, wait. That’s because it IS Bill. You may also spy a bubble-blowing Dumbo in the toy maker’s shop. (Screenshot via Disney)

11. The Little Mermaid: You’ll want to freeze frame King Triton’s entrance into what is supposed to be Ariel’s musical debut, as you may recognize several friendly faces in the audience. There’s Mickey, Donald and Goofy to the king’s left, as well as The Muppets’ Kermit the Frog. Then, there’s Eric’s wedding guests, which just so happen to include Cinderella’s father-in-law and his duke.

Bonus tidbits: Ariel is actually based on a young Alyssa Milano, and Ursula is based on ‘70s drag star Divine. No kidding. (Photo via Toby Canham/Getty)

What other Disney Easter eggs have you spotted in the films? Let us know at @BritandCo!

We're all about colorful Easter egg dye come spring, but if we're honest, we're not always thrilled with the cleanup. Whether you're dyeing with or without a kit, there are tons of bowls, spoons, and paper towels to scrub once your finished. And don't even get us started on what happens if you spill the dye!

If you want to dye eggs this year but are feeling hesitant about everything it entails, don't worry because this hack from Reynoldsis here to save the day. We like to hard boil our eggs before dyeing, but blown eggs work just as well. Then just grab your slow cooker and get dyeing!

An Easy + Clean Egg Dye Hack

Image via Reynolds Kitchens

First, make some DIY slow cooker dividers with cardboard wrapped in aluminum foil.

Once your slow cooker is divided into four sections, line each section with saran wrap, plastic bags, or slow cooker liners. This will let you use more than one color, but still gives you enough space to dye multiple eggs at once!

Next, fill each section with water. Make sure that, while you want to fill them enough for multiple eggs to be submerged, you don't fill them too high. You don't want the water to overflow — that's definitely not mess-free!

Image via Reynolds Kitchens

Add your Easter egg dye to each section. Pink, purple, and blue are classic shades!

Image via Reynolds Kitchens

Gather your hard boiled or blown eggs to add to the water. You can use strips of tape or string to make all kinds of striped and dotted designs. Then all you have to do is just drop them in the water and wait! This is the perfect opportunity to make a colorful Easter cocktail ;).

The longer the eggs sit in the dye, the darker the color will turn out. So if you prefer pastel eggs, only leave them in for a few minutes.

Image via Reynolds Kitchens

When you remove your eggs from the dye, let them dry on a cookie rack before you remove the tape and the string. Display them on a pretty plate along with your Easter desserts, or as a centerpiece!

Image via Reynolds Kitchens

Voilà! A rainbow of colorful eggs, all boasting different designs. And the best part is, all you have to do to clean up is throw away the liners and the cardboard, then put your slow cooker back in your cabinet. We'll definitely be doing this from here on out.

How To Dye Easter Eggs: More Colored Egg Dye Ideas For Display

Marbled Nail Polish Eggs

If you're not too keen on buying food coloring that you'll only use every once in awhile, just use your nail polish! Instead of adding dye to the sections, pour in your polish. You can use a toothpick to swirl everything around and achieve that marbled look. Have some nail polish remover nearby because your fingers will get messy.

Mosaic Easter Eggs

This hack is a great option for using up hard boiled eggs because you have to peel one to make it! (AKA, you'll have a snack to accompany your DIY). After you peel an egg that you've already dyed, use a hot glue gun to attach the broken shell pieces to a second, plain egg. Easy-peasy.

Sharpie Tie Dye Eggs

This Easter egg design only takes ten minutes, which makes it perfect for busy evenings or for kids who can't sit still for too long. Fill your slow cooker sections with nail polish remover instead of water, then color your eggs with as many Sharpie colors as you want. Dunk them into the nail polish remover (or smear with a wet Q-tip) to give them that tie-dye look.

Housefront Easter Eggs

Paint your favorite TV characters' apartment building or your childhood home onto eggs for a fun and nostalgic DIY. Once you've drawn your design, you'll want to tape up the rest of the egg to make sure the dye stays where you want it. Paint the house with the egg dye, or submerge the whole egg in a slow cooker section. Set to dry.

Norman Mailer, I'm pregnant! This might be a memorable line from an equally memorable Gilmore Girls episode, but it's now also a reality for one of the show's stars because Milo Ventimiglia is expecting his first child! The actor married model and entrepreneur Jarah Mariano in the fall of 2023 at a tiny, private ceremony (a move that was very Jess Mariano of him), and on September 29, Jarah announced she's pregnant!

Milo Ventimiglia and Jarah Mariano just showed up at Brian Bowen Smith's ‘Joyride’ exhibit at Studio CT in California, and one source tells People Milo was “sweet and attentive to his wife throughout the whole event.” Duh!!

He “seemed very proud to be with her" while Jarah looked "radiant and glowing," as she always does. “Milo was kissing her and whispering into her ear," the source continues. "They were just genuinely lovely together.”

Is Jarah Mariano pregnant?

Jarah Mariano/Instagram

Yes, Jarah Mariano announced her pregnancy with an Instagram post featuring a surf session with Milo Ventimiglia. In the photos, Jarah is sitting on a surfboard wearing a brown bikini top, polka dot bikini bottoms, and a pink lei. "Baby on board!" she says in the caption.

After his time on Gilmore Girls, Milo played patriarch Jack Pearson on NBC's This Is Us, and told US Weekly in 2017 that "I think I’m built to want a strong family unit. “It will happen when it happens. I’m not out seeking it. It’s just kind of, I’m present in the space in my life that when it presents itself and it’s right, I’m sure it will work out.”

And it looks like it worked out at the exact right time.

Does Milo Ventimiglia have a wife?

Yes, Milo Ventimiglia & wife Jarah Mariano got married in the fall of 2023, and Jarah recently posted some new photos from the special day. "Last year I married my best friend," she says. "There aren’t enough words that exist to describe all the special qualities that make him who he is. AlI can say is that I am grateful for the life that we have together and the happiness that we have created🤍 Aloha wau iā 'oe my husband Milo."

"Things are good," Milo told Extra in February 2024. "We've had relationships that have come and have gone and then you get to a point where you kind of meet your match and meet someone that inspires you in a way different than anybody else...I'm grateful for her and I’m happy to have arrived in this moment, so married life is nice."

We're always ready to go back to Hogwarts, whether we're making a Harry Potter cocktail for our September 1st celebration or hosting a movie night in our coziest PJs. And thanks to HBO, we'll be able to visit for the first time all over again. On April 12, 2023 Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that an original Harry Potter series was coming to their Max streaming service.

The series will be released over the course of ten years (!!) and WBD promises that it'll feature a book authenticity and attention to detail that even the most knowledgable Potterhead will appreciate. Grab your Harry Potter house scarf and your pumpkin juice, and keep reading for everything you need to know about the new Harry Potter TV show!

Will there be a Harry Potter TV show?

Warner Bros.

Yes, we're getting a new Harry Potter TV show! The official video announcement features the Hogwarts candles we see in the first film coming together to create that classic golden, lit-from-within logo. It's totally magical and nostalgic, but has a new contemporary edge I can't wait to see in its full form.

Will the Harry Potter TV show follow the books?

Amazon

Yes, book fans will be happy to know the new series will definitely follow the plot of the books. And Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, finally gave us a tease during MIPCOM‘s C-Suite Conversations. "It’s an unbelievable dream, honestly, and as somebody who is a huge fan of books, the opportunity to get to explore them in maybe a little bit more in-depth than you can in just a two-hour film," she said (via THR). "That’s the whole reason we’re on this journey.”

Has HBO begun casting for the new Harry Potter series?

Warner Bros.

Dungey also revealed they've started looking for a new golden trio. “There’s not a lot to talk about at this moment," she says. "We’ve got our fantastic writing staff in place and they are doing what they need to do. And casting calls have opened up in the U.K. and Ireland, so the process is moving along. It’s going quite well.”

What else do I need to know?

Warner Bros./IMDb

“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” Casey Bloys, HBO & Max Content's Chairman and CEO, said in the press release. “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World.”

The series comes from Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts serving as executive producers. Over the last few years, Rowling has made headlines for her conservative views and commentary on transgender identities, but at the time, Bloys didn't comment when asked whether her involvement could affect their ability to move forward.

On June 26, 2024 it was announced that Francesca Gardiner would write and serve as showrunner and Mark Mylod would executive produce and direct several episodes. Both worked on Succession.

"I'm truly thrilled to announce our director and writer, both of whom I interviewed as part of the production team," J.K. Rowling tweeted. "Both have a genuine passion for #HarryPotter, and having read Francesca's pilot script and heard Mark's vision, I'm certain the TV show will more than live up to expectations."

When is the HBO Harry Potter TV show release date?

Max/HBO/Warner Bros.

The new Harry Potter series is expected to hit Max in 2026, according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav (via Deadline). That means we could start seeing cast lists and getting more specific plot details in 2025!

Who plays Harry Potter in the new series?

Warner Bros.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Daniel Radcliffe makes it clear that even though he's very excited about the new show, he probably won't be included in the new cast of Harry Potter.

“I’m sure whoever is making [the series] will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” he says. “So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

There's no word on whether any of the original cast will actually be returning, but after we cried while watching the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, we can only hope that Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, and Tom Felton will at least make cameo appearances. I'd love to see Daniel Radcliffe in the Ministry of Magic, or see Tom Felton walking around Diagon Alley. (However, I'm really hoping they're cast as some of the professors. Just imagine Emma as Professor McGonagall!)

Is Harry Potter on Netflix or Amazon Prime?

Warner Bros.

The Harry Potter series is currently available to stream on Max and Peacock. However, you can also rent the movies on Amazon Prime!
